This book, Eating for LIfe, is the cookbook that is sort of the companion to the Body for LIfe workout.

My husband recently decided to do something about his “ab.” He has a “one pack” and he wants to lose it. I agreed to help him by cooking healthy meals. This book is really working for us.

I recommend the Chicken Enchiladas, Chicken Parmesan and the Asian Chicken Salad. The recipes are easy to follow, and simple enough that I can whip them together in about 30 minutes. There are recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and midmeals. My husband is already losing weight, and I’m having no trouble eating along with him.

The ingredients are simple, and are things you can readily find in the grocery store. The portions are easy to figure out, and there’s enough variety that you’ll have something different when you want it. Try the search inside feature on Amazon and you can see what the food looks like and how the recipes are laid out.

It was very moving, inspiring even. Our book group just finished it and discussed last night. Three Cups of Tea is the story of one man making a huge difference halfway around the world.

Greg Mortenson is a former climber whose failed K2 summit attempt lead him eventually to head the CAI (Central Asia Institute). He now works tirelessly to raise money to build schools and educate children in the poorest areas of rural Pakistan and Afghanistan. Three Cups of Tea is the story of his struggles and victories from his climbing days to today. Sometimes they seem to be one in the same.

Reading this book helps you see the power of just one person and the huge difference they can make. It’s also a peek into Muslim culture and what daily life is like for the people in those rural villages Mortenson visits. In addition, it’s a touching example that you can find the people who inspire and love you most anywhere in the world.

Three Cups of Tea is an interesting read. You feel and you learn from it. Check out the Amazon reviews for more in-depth information. Please feel free to share your comments here.

Price at Amazon: Three Cups of Tea – $8.25

Okay, you might think I’m crazy but it wouldn’t be the first time. I LOVE these things. I’ve held out for several years using grocery bags, etc. to pick up my dog’s lovely leavings, and finally decided it was time for a change.

This little poo bag dispenser (that’s a technical name, by the way) is shaped like a bone. Very cute! And the bags are inside. You just pull one out as needed. The bags are biodegradable and decent sized. And the bones come in different colors, so your precious Brutus doesn’t have to have a pink one.

The little bone attaches to your dog’s leash and shazam, you are ready for a walk! This is so much nicer than your average grocery bag because…biodegradable, hello? And, if your dog does his thing more than once, you’re always prepared. AND, if you actually want to say, talk on the phone or put your hands in your pockets because it’s cold outside, you can.

Never worry about your dog hunching over at the least opportune moment–you know, like when your on your neighborhood’s main road with lot’s of traffic–to drop his SECOND bomb without your having a bag. Try these Bags to Go from Target. You can get refills, too.

Then you do a basic balance test to figure out your Wii Fit age. After that, you’re ready to go.

You can do aerobics, strength training, yoga, balance games and more. The best part is there is enough stuff to do that you won’t be bored.

One of the best features it has is the ability to track your progress. You can see how you’ve been doing and how much you’ve improved. It’ll work for up to 8 family members, too. Yet another cool tool to help keep us (I mean me) young!

The surf shelf will attach any laptop or any DVD player to any exercise machine.

I guess the thing that’s more interesting to me is that I could watch what I want, have the volume as loud as I want and not have to deal with the TVs at the gym that you can’t hear or that aren’t playing what you want to watch. The question remains, do I want to carry my laptop and this shelf in with me to work out? If you have a home gym, that’s totally not an issue, though.

And finally, will I ever be in good enough shape to take my hand off the (very necessary) handle of whatever machine I’m on in order to navigate on my DVD or laptop?? Whaddaya think? Worth a try?

SurfShelf $59.95

It can tell you all sorts of cool stuff. Sometimes it might even be stuff you want to know.

Okay, so you know how you work out and you know you’re gaining muscle but you can’t see it because you still have mushy fat overlay? Well, this little gadget will tell you what your muscle mass percentage is. Then you’ll know how much muscle you’ve gained. Hmmm, I’m wanting to eat cake right now…

Anyway, you can also find out your body water percentage (yay), metabolic age, physique rating, visceral fat (no idea), muscle mass and bone mass. I want to know more about all of these. I would love to some day actually SEE my ab muscles. I will at least be a little more knowledgeable about whether or not I’m gaining muscle instead of fat.

I actually own this one and it’s been living outside on the trampoline. My kids play with it. I have never used it for actual “fitness.”

Well, I got some free sessions with a personal trainer and she put me on one of these puppies. She demonstrated…you lay down, hands behind your head, elbows back, etc. You are supposed to lay ALL the way back and then sit up. It looked easy when SHE did it. I laid back. Couldn’t do anything else. Finally, with a discreet push from her I sat up.

After 3 sets of 20 I felt okay. The next day…not so good. I felt every cough and sneeze. But I also realized my abs got worked. Someday I might even see them! Needless to say, now I’m “on the ball.” Try it if you dare…
