As a psychiatrist in Seattle, I worked with contract agents who had been assigned to Laos and Cambodia and other technically illegal operations. The sad thing was that they were all contract operatives - although they were intensely patriotic and some spent 15 to 20 years fighting for their country. As independent contractors, they got no federal retirement, no federal health insurance and no social security (because they weren't employees the government never paid into social security for them). Which meant when they got too old or too sick to serve any more, the government abandoned them and they had no choice but to go on welfare. That's one particular disgusting aspect of US foreign policy most Americans don't get to see. I write about my own close encounter with US intelligence (some patients told me things they shouldn't have) in my recent memoir THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY ACT: MEMOIR OF AN AMERICAN REFUGEE (I currently live in exile in New Zealand).

I sometimes suspect that the reason the detainees aren't permitted REAL criminal trials in a REAL court of law is because the Establishment doesn't want them to reveal the extent of the corruption at the highest levels. Oily CIA mercenaries posing as "terrorists" riling up the entire mideast wouldn't play well on corporate-funded media, if you know what I mean.

Everyone knows the real reason Bush senior had to pardon these people: if they had gone to trial, they would have incriminated Bush senior both in Iran Contra and CIA narcotics trafficking. I don't know which upset me more about Iran Contra - learning that the CIA was allowing their agents to traffic cheap crack cocaine to America teenagers - or the shock that it wasn't front page news in every major newspaper. I write about my own close encounter with US intelligence (which didn't much care for my politics) in 1987. (I currently live in exile in New Zealand).

This is an excellent step in the right direction. However, in a short time, less than two years, there will be an urgent need for another upgrade. The problem of speed can’t be resolved by incremental solutions. This problem needs novel technology, which can be used for the next decade or more. The Photonics Company has invented this technology using optical fiber as an active device as well as the communication link, i.e. modulation, multiplexing, switching, coupling, and other functionalities, are done within the optical fiber cable. In this way, we can take the advantage of the real ultra high speed and enormous bandwidth of optical communication. This technology will provide the proper tools for transmission not only at 100M but up to 100G and more. This technology has been developed and proof of concept has been completed. This technology can be a perfect marriage to the Google’s Next Generation All-Fiber Networks. Please, visit the Photonics Company’s web-sites (www.photonicsonfiber.com and www.photonicslabs.com ), or call 215-291-4410 (or Fax 215-291-4490) to receive more details on this innovative technology on ON-FIBER DEVICES.
