This video features some pretty great night surfers from Southern California and some bioluminescent algae. At night, it looks as though the water is glowing (or putting on a light show), which makes for some amazing footage. Check it out.

Glass Beach

This is a photo of the Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, California. The area was once used as a dump (beginning in 1947) and in 1967, they realized what a horrible idea it was to dump toxic waste into the ocean. After years of the surf breaking down all of the garbage, the coast is full of sea glass (the soft kind you can step on and fill vases with). I am planning a trip out there real soon.

This house is designed by Rube Golberg and it plays music whenever it rains! I wish I could hear it, but it's all the way in Germany and I haven't found a video online yet. I will definitely update this if I do find one, so keep checking.

This is a crazy idea...a mirror prank, where a woman is putting on makeup in a fake mirror, while her twin sister copies her moves on the other side. When another woman comes along, she is confused as to why the mirror made her invisible. It's funny.

The multi-talented Judy Ongg (b. Jan 24, 1950) is an actress, singer and woodblock printing artist born in Taiwan. She moved to Japan and attended Tokyo University. After that, she became very famous in Japan, China, Taiwan and Hawaii. She is mostly known for her work done as a television actress and the lead role in the movie The Big Wave, but I know her from her music. The song above is again, great sample material for all you diggers. It's called "Red Moon Twilight" in English; the real title, "たそがれの赤い月/　ジュディ・オング" is of course in Japanese. If you see any of her albums at the record store, I suggest you buy them all. As usual, more songs after the jump!

Oo, that Hawaiian Funk. Here's a download for the self-titled Macky Feary Band album. They are on the level of Kalapana with sweet, Hawaiian guitar and funky rhythms. Download and enjoy. (By the way, I don't upload these things, I just post them.) I hope you can find some of these songs record diggin, but I doubt you'll find it in the mainland.

Hino, Teruko (1945-2008)

Hawaiian singer Teruko Hino (real name, Teruko Ichinose) won the All-Japan Hawaiian contest in 1962 and became famous about three years later with the hit single, "Natsu no Hi no Omoide" (above). Despite her death in 2008, her album, One Rainy Night in Tokyo, seems to never get old.

Hino's voice is clean, rich and angelic. The accompanying music is also prime sample material. Listen to more favorites after the jump.
