The re-branding of The Energy Movement Center has given a much more focused identity as well adding playfulness than the previous designs (not shown). The logo can be placed on various colored backgrounds and still have impact and brand safety. The typography has some motion itself largely due it being rendered with the use of the faux 3D effect in Adobe Illustrator. It was mapped inside a cylinder using a wide perspective setting.

Svetoslav Simov - Type Designer from Bulgaria – and his series Fontfabric.

When viewing the font design of Svet Simov, you cannot help but notice his own unique voice singing throughout the entire collection. Much like a band or visual artist who puts out a new song or body of work, their style rings throughout. Such fonts as Zag, Aston and Noveu – all different but take on similar elements and attributes. Compare those with, Wigan, Dovde and Kare.

The folks here at Stutterdot Design are into music big-time, in both playing, composing and of course listening. It was a great pleasure to have participated in the concept and design for the Number 7 Records website. This is a new music licensing company headed by Jay Stollman: musician, vocalist, and award winning composer of TV & Film music. His TV credits include NBC’s TODAY SHOW, HBO’s SEX & THE CITY, 48 HOURS, CBS EARLY SHOW and AMERICAN PICKERS to name a few. Jay has received the CINE GOLDEN EAGLE Award, The MOBIUS Award and the NEW YORK FESTIVALS Award for his work on NBC's Today Show.

The Stutterdot approach to this website (logo design by Penny Yates) was to combine grit with hi-tech. Our first meeting with Mr Stollman really defined the level of professional design needed to support and match his knowledge of 'music' and the business sense needed to promote and sell it. Creative Director Paul JM, mentioned tube amps with cloth grills and chrome to pay tribute to Jay's history in the business, but it had to be competitive in today's world as well. The main function of this portal is to get people to hear and buy the music. And the call to action states that loud and clear.

The structure and functionality needs were established first. The embellishments grew from this organically. We feel the dark foundation with bright neon orange and green text and accents evoke emotion with excitement. The vintage amp-style knobs were created in Swift3D, a vector based 3D program mostly used with Flash. Photoshop then kicked in with some nice definition. The final result is exactly what we had envisioned.

To start, their new website was a great project to take on. Stutterdot used subtle dissolves (Flash) of Italian landscapes and photos of the restaurant; both exterior and interior.

The photos were softened as far as hard edges and lines are concerned, but color enhanced for vibrancy - a nice blend of fx. This helps keep the site light and airy. There is not an over abundance of text either, just enough to cordially supply information to the end user and guide them effortlessly.

Please visit the web site and the restaurant. We hope you agree that the experience is a pleasurable one.
I love the art of font design. I have designed fonts for campaigns and it's a lot of work. Unfortunately I really didn't take the time with the etiquette and respect for the art form needed. They were crude in design and execution, but I had fun doing it anyways.
I have been involved with graphic design for over 15 years. I have been involved with music for most (close to all) of my life; drums, guitars, writing; playing in bands and solo.

Some people call other people's originals 'covers', but I like to call them 'originals by others'. Anyway, I am taking my Fender Telecaster (or 1983 Fender Bullet), my Fender Blues Jr amp and Fender Passport PA system (I should see about an endorsement) out on the road to perform at one of the coolest bars in Westchester County: The Birdsall House in Peekskill, NY.

And me, being a drummer... I mean what else could be more cool(er)?

Amedia, an old school cymbal manufacturer in Istanbul, Turkey, is just over a year old in the states but are definitely getting noticed. The sounds (am I repeating myself from a previous post) that spring out from a drumstick tap are some of the most musical sounds I have heard. I am not alone on this.

Anyway, I recently developed this e-blast with the US Sales rep, Dominick and the response was overwhelming. This went out to drummers and drum shops across the country. We had replies on how nice the ad was and are getting some shops to take in Amedia for retail. Does the idea for the image look familiar?

There is still a lot of work and designing to do and it's going to be a great road to travel.

Thanks

HIGHLIGHT FONT MAN: JONATHAN BARNBROOK OF VIRUS FOUNDRY

This just in. So far I've used the software at the most basic level and recently decided to dive in with tutorials and really learning how to model. The graphics to the left are a few results of this.

I am not a fan of using standard 'in the box' images so I created everything on my own. That would include bump maps, extrusions as well as the eye ball illustrated on the 3D sphere.

I am getting a bit faster and making fewer mistakes but still have a ways to go. My objective is to create environments with depth to utilize in my Flash websites. I am not looking for a graphic that shouts 3D!!!, just something subtle enough for a nice organic look and feel. Me. Me. Me.

POWERFUL TYPE - MEANINGFUL TYPE: TYPOGRAPHY

I am a lover of type and how a logo, or even a single word can tell a story when using the right font for the job.
A couple of years ago my daughter, Fiona Jones, wrote a few jokes... then a few more until she got up to about 15 of them. We picked the best 12 and decided to self-publish a joke book.

Here it is and its fully illustrated by Robert Mag.

Where do snakes get their snacks?

What did Miss Star ask her class after a lesson?

Find out here on Amazon.

LOGO AND WEBSITE: 812 GUITARS

This is cool. Being a guitar player I was so excited to Meet luthier Chris Matos and design his logo and website for his guitar shop. Chris does set ups to hot rodding to total custom designed axes known as The Cornet (left).

His website, 812guitars.com is sort of down and dirty but has character - I think... and so does he. But anyway, not only did I have the opportunity to design his brand, I also helped design the body of The Cornet - something I am very proud of.

The guitar is in between prototype and production state. I have taken them to gigs and believe me they get noticed. It won't be long 'til there's another cool guitar on the block to reckon with.

BRANDING, SIGNAGE AND WEBSITE: AMEDIA CYMBALS USA

AMEDIA CYMBALS USA - These are handmade cymbals from Turkey - the real deal - old school. Every cymbal is signed on the back by the head cymbal smith, Ahmet. I cannot say enough great things about this product - in fact calling it a product is almost an insult.

it all started a little over a year ago when I was playing a drum kit at a jam and the Hi Hats were so brilliant and warm sounding. I asked the drummer what are Amedia cymbals and where did you get them? He mentioned he was in Turkey and got them from the factory. I went to the Amedia website (Turkey) as soon as I could and sent an e-mail about 'how do I purchase them?' I soon rec'd an e-mail from the USA dealer, Dominick Gagliano in New Jersey. I ordered the same hats as I played and as our conversations got more in depth I began designing for him in March of this year.

Since then I am now a factory rep for Amedia USA and the designer for all US promotions and marketing. I now play a complete set of Amedias - hand picked from the NJ warehouse. DRUMMERS - LOOK THEM UP! Amedia Cymbals.com

WEBSITE: COTSWOLD CABINETRY

Cotswold Cabinetry hit the on-line status as of November 2009. The client understood how powerful design can be when elegance and focus take priority.

In fact I dictated the website design based on the styling of their furniture and custom cabinetry. It's bold and demands attention when viewing the individual pieces, but as the perfect special fx or score in a film, it's organic to the room it occupies; there's no other way for this room to exist. And it makes everything else in the room look better.

I used this concept when designing the site. In both cosmetics and functionality. You can't see but I am patting myself on the back big time. Please visit when you get a chance: Cotswold Cabinetry

THE RE-BRANDING OF STUTTERDOT

I have re-branded Stutterdot Design. There is a modern yet wacky feel about the new look and I really like it. hmm... do you?

Unfortunately I was recently laid off from a full time position as Creative Director at American Int;l Lifestyles, LLC due to budget cuts. Yes I damn this economy. Right after the layoff I began reconstructing the SD website. it took about 2 months for designing and the input of all the new work containing poster design, flash animations for promotion and marketing and logo design. I had to work fast to get my new look out there.

I fell short in extensive planning and just dug in; making it up as I went along. I am very pleased with the outcome. I purposely left the website design very open without a lot of bells and whistles. It's the work inside I want people to focus on. However, I hope that the ease and intuitiveness of getting the around the site means something; that is what I focused my design efforts on: functionality. It has to work efficiently.

Feel free to write if you have any comments on the site. www.stutterdot.com

Tom Krouskoff, the writer for the band, contacted me through musician friend Frank Enea, owner of Satellite Sound Studio in Mt Kisco NY, in need of a design using his already created mascot/logo... that would be the rock 'n' roll pooch.

The cd title, 'Let's Keep Rollin'' brought some imagery to mind so I stepped forward with a somewhat retro-psychidelic styled typography using bright colors on black. It just made sense for some reason. The client dug the direction although the first font was not a fav. No problem, I says, as it really didn't seem to fit. So 400 or so typefaces later I found something close to what I was looking for. It just needed a bit of tweaking and there it was.

Anyway - enough about the design. You have to check out the music from Swahoogie. Satellite Sound gave Tom's songwriting the professional edge it deserves.

For more info and purchase - please go to CDBaby: http://cdbaby.com/cd/swahoogie3

Happy Nu Yeer

Happy Nu Yeer to all. I'm thinking you may have noticed this unique spelling of 'New Year' in the title of this post. Well here's a little back story. This was developed during the 2001/02 changing of the years. It was a stressful time after the 911 attack and I figured that there had to be a re-thinking, or re-structuring of how we think or thought out to do things. This 'Nu Yeer' spelling represented that we can do things differently and move forward to the future our kids will have and create for themselves and their families.

(remove soapbox here) Aaaaahhhhhh.

I had also designed a logo* to be put on tee shirts that could be sold in New York will all money going to aid the families that lost so much during 911. I spoke with some committees (apologize but I cannot remember who and I have no emails saved to support me - please take my word for it) to try and make this happen, but it didn't.

* Logo pictured here was before the nu spelling took place.

Cathal, Henry and Paul cover U2

Check out this cool version of U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday on youtube. She's a painter who has segued to a prolific sculptor/potter. Organic and beautiful would be words used to describe herself and her works.

This meeting came about during the Antagonist Art Movement at the Niagara, the day of what Stamford, CT would call a snow/sleet storm kind of day, and what NYC would call another wet and slightly slippery day. My 2 hour path to the Niagara was to play my songs - at least that's what I initially thought. However, looking back it seems my efforts were to meet Wendi; I can play anytime, but meeting someone like her doesn't happen often. Please take a moment and visit her website to see her sculpture. http://www.blackcatandcrow.com/

myspace = your x-mas music place

I took the liberty of uploading a few of period comma's renditions of classic Christmas songs to thir myspace page. Getting there in a customized snow storm that I know was created to keep me out, was a journey all its own. Therefore, I am claiming 'protagonist' stature in that I ventured on nonetheless to play at the Antagonist Movement's promoted art show and music evening.

Once in the city, I knew it'd be a normal city night. There was no snow, only rain and slippery sidewalks, hardly enough to keep anyone indoors.

The tikki room at the Niagara is where the events took place. One room had an art show of emerging artists and the other contained Dee Jay and live music. I played the first set and it was cool; I always hate going on first - but what the hell. I haven't played a full set of music on my own in quite a while - so again, what the hell. It was fun and I gave away a few Cd's.

All in all, a Thursday night with The Antagonist Movement is something I would recommend to anyone starting out in the field of music or art. The energy created by the artists and the attendance was great.

Tomorrow Never Knows

Is it the 12th already?
