Your Baby Can Read Dvd Review

I have two toddlers ages 2 1/2 and 1 1/2. We bought the Your Baby Can Read DVD Set a few months ago and I was a bit skeptical at first. I watched the infomercial showing one year olds pointing out words that they recognized. I was impressed by the infomercial but I did not expect my daughters to really pick up on words.

My two year old has had a speech delay and she is in speech therapy. She was a little delayed saying basic words. She is now in speech therapy and the therapist says that the best way for her to start talking more is to get her to instantly say the words that she understands. The video Your Baby Can Read actually gets the kids involved in the video. There will be a picture of something they recognize and it will ask them “Can you say ball?”. It asks them to repeat everything and this really got my daughter saying more words. The first time I put the video in my 2 year old said at least 10 new words!

The words that the video introduces are small words and large words like “hippopotamus” and “chimpanzee”. My daughter can recognize these words now it is amazing. If I show her the word “hippopotamus” she will point to the correct animal.

My one year old is now saying more words and beginning to recognize words like “nose”. I see now that babies can understand and remember the shapes of letters and words which is a huge jump start in the reading process.

Your Baby Can Read is more stimulating for children than Baby Einstein in my opinion. Baby Einstein plays music and shows pictures of toys but Your Baby Can Read engages children in the video.

Show your child words as much as you can, their memories are excellent and introducing them to written language early will have great benefits. Imagine how confident your child will be of himself when he is reading way before his peers.

I am a stay at home mom of three children and I am always looking for ways to save money.

by: Jerald Chan

Physical therapy is one of the most important treatments for cerebral palsy (CP). It usually begins soon after diagnosis and often continues throughout life. Some people with CP may begin physical therapy before being diagnosed, depending on their symptoms.

Special devices and equipment are needed for some people with CP to help them with specific problems. For example:

* A child who develops uneven leg length may need to wear special shoes with a higher sole and heel on the shorter leg.

* Some people who are not able to walk without assistance may need to use canes, crutches, walkers, or wheelchairs.

* Physical therapy and special equipment may be used together, such as for constraint-induced movement therapy, also called shaping. This approach encourages a child to increase movements by presenting interesting activities or objects and giving praise and rewards when a child makes attempts to use the less-functioning muscles. 9

Occupational therapy helps adults adapt to their limitations and live as independently as possible.

Speech therapy helps control the mouth muscles. This therapy can be of great benefit to children with speech or eating problems. Speech therapy often starts before the child begins school and continues throughout the school years.

Nutritional counseling may help when dietary needs are not met because of problems with eating certain foods.

Biofeedback may be useful as part of physical therapy or on its own. During a biofeedback session, people with CP learn how to control their affected muscles. Some people learn ways to reduce muscle tension with this technique. Biofeedback does not help everyone with CP.

Both massage therapy and hatha yoga are designed to help relax tense muscles, strengthen muscles, and keep joints flexible. Hatha yoga breathing exercises are sometimes used to try to prevent lung infections. More research is needed to determine the health benefits of these therapies for people with CP.

Other treatments that vary by age or specific need include:

* Therapies to stimulate learning and sensory development. Babies and young children may benefit from these stimulation or neurodevelopmental therapies. Some of these therapies also help people of other ages. These therapies cannot repair damaged parts of the brain. However, they may be able to stimulate undamaged parts of the brain that the person is not currently using.

* Behavioral therapy. This type of therapy helps some school-age children with CP learn better ways to communicate with others.

Several controversial therapies exist for CP, such as electrical stimulation and special diets. If you are considering these types of treatments, talk to your doctor about any related research or where to find more information.

Surgery

Surgery for people with cerebral palsy (CP) usually involves either:

* Loosening tight muscles and releasing fixed joints, most often performed on the hips, knees, and ankles. In rare cases, this surgery may be used for people with stiffness of their elbows, wrists, hands, and fingers.

* Cutting nerves on the limbs most affected by movements and spasms. This procedure reduces spasms and allows more flexibility and control of the affected limbs and joints.

A doctor evaluates the person’s symptoms, age, and general state of health when considering whether to recommend surgery.

A thorough checkup is needed to help the doctor determine which muscles and nerves are affected and what type of surgery would best treat the condition. A gait analysis is part of the examination if the person is able to walk.

For young children, surgery may be postponed if doing so will likely prevent the need for additional surgery in the future.

Other surgeries related to cerebral palsy

Surgery for various orthopedic problems: Surgery for other problems is sometimes needed for children with CP. These surgeries vary depending upon the specific problems involved. For example, some children may need surgery to correct uneven leg length, dislocation of the hip, curves in the spine (scoliosis), or an eye problem.

Medication-related surgery: A small pump is surgically implanted under the skin in the abdomen for some people with CP. This pump is used to deliver medications, such as baclofen (Lioresal), directly into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord. For more information, see antispasmodics.

Surgery Choices

The main surgery choices for people affected by cerebral palsy (CP) are:

Orthopedic surgery (for muscles, tendons, and joints). This type of procedure is done to lengthen a tendon to increase a limb’s range of motion by cutting through a muscle or tendon (release) and sometimes reattaching it in a different area. 1

Selective posterior rhizotomy (cutting nerves of affected limbs). This procedure is usually considered only for children with severe muscle tightness in the legs.

What To Think About

Health professionals do not agree about the best age for people with cerebral palsy (CP) to have surgery.

* Some surgeons believe that children less than 2 years old with CP benefit most from orthopedic surgeries because it allows them to grow and develop more like other children.

* Some health professionals believe that all surgery should wait until a child is older than age 2; some prefer to wait until sometime between ages 6 and 8 years. They believe that more problems can be corrected during the same surgery if orthopedic surgery is postponed until the child is older.

Surgery is not used nearly as often for the arms as for the legs. Surgery on arm deformities carries more risks related to sensory damage; also, surgery has a more limited impact on functional abilities than on the legs. 8

Sometimes medications or physical therapy are used to postpone or eliminate the need for surgery. Physical therapy is also needed for most children after surgery. The type of therapy and special equipment needed after surgery (such as braces, casts, and splints) depend on the child’s specific needs. In general, post-surgical physical therapy usually starts as soon as possible and may continue for as long as 6 months.

Multiple Sclerosis And Back Pain

Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive disease such as demyelinating and affects the motor and sensory neurons. The disease will cause cycles of remission, which causes the condition to worsen. When exacerbation starts etiology is reviewed, which includes the cause? The cause at this time is not clear, yet some experts believe that viral infections and autoimmune disease plays a part in Multiple Sclerosis cause.

The disease is complication, yet it cause back pain. According to Pathophysiology views, the scatters of demyelinization will start affecting the brain, as well as the spinal cord. Once it affects these areas degeneration starts targeting the myelin sheath (Nerves that insulates the layers of cells) and causes a string of patches of sclerotic tissues. The patches impair the conduction, which reaches the “motor nerve impulses.”

How do I know if I have Multiple Sclerosis?

You consider the symptoms. The symptoms include ataxia, blurred vision, weakness, heat intolerance, nystagmus, sensation impairment, speech scan, diplopic, optic neuritis, paresthesia, tremor intentions, euphoria sensations, paralysis, incontinence urine, and powerlessness to feel or measure the pose of the body.

What is ataxia?

Ataxia is the lack or inability to control the muscles coordination or movement.

What is nystagmus? Nystagmus is involuntary movements of the eyes, which rhythmically move from side to side and is caused from the disease since the nerves and muscles behind the eyeball is affected.

What is diplopic?

Diplopic and/or diplopia are double vision. Double vision is caused from lack of coordination of the eye movement. The optic neuritis also affects the eyes.

If multiple sclerosis is present doctors use MRI tests, EMG, CSF, CT, Oligoclonal banding, and so on. Once the tests are completed and if increases of G (IgG), i.e. immunoglobulin are present and protein intake is increasing as well, thus WBC is present, he considers medical management.

Atrophy when spotted under MRI tests will start medical management as well. The medical management varies from patient to patient. Back pain is common.

According to statistics, the mass of people in the u
1000
niverse will suffer some degree of back pain. Some people go through the pain, yet have never sustained injuries. Other people may experience pain from injuries, and feel how horrible the pain can become.

When considering back pain one must ask what its cause is. How can one control the pain? What self-care prevention strategies can one use to ease back pain? What treatments are available to me?

The fact is back pain can occur from feet conditions, such as swelling, heel pain, burning soles, battered ligaments, and so on. Sport injuries, car accidents, inappropriate bending, and lifting are all related to back pain. In fact, various medical conditions cause back pain, including multiple sclerosis, edema, and so on. With the many variants related to back pain, one must educate you on how the spine is structured and what happens if that structure is interrupted. Let’s get started and learn what we can about back pain, and how we can eliminate such stress in our lives.

When multiple sclerosis is present, medical treatment often includes diet, controlled exercise, speech therapy, physical therapy; fluids increased, meds, and so on. Muscle relaxants, such as Baclofen or Lioresal are giving to the patient etc. The doctor will often recommend that the patient take Maalox. Maalox is laced with magnesium and aluminum hydroxide, which is in the muscles and apparently lacking its natural remedy, thus the Maalox acts as a substitute.

Alterna-GEL is also prescribed, which has the chemicals the muscles produce as well known as aluminum hydroxide gel. Once medical management is set up doctors will consider nurses intervention.

How To Stop Stuttering

Speech disorders affect millions of people worldwide, and in particular stuttering still remains an enigma today. Stuttering has been on medical records for centuries and yet there are still many unanswered questions about it. Stuttering prevents a personal from having a flowing speech pattern, they may get stuck on certain words, repeat them over and over again and prolong syllables repeatedly, and even stop short in a sentence. It can also be accompanied by unusual jerky body movements.

Current thinking suggests there are four primary causes of stuttering. The first is genetic, whereby stuttering can be traced back to other members of the family. Secondly, stuttering can be an early developmental problem in which a childs’ speech and language patterns do not meet his verbal demands. A third cause is neurophysiologic whereby the signals between an individuals brain and the muscles and nerves that control speech don’t function properly. Academic and unrealistic education aspirations from parents can push a child into devolving a stammer.

It had been previously thought that psychogenic stuttering can occur after the tragic death of a loved one or after a traumatic injury. But recent research has shown cases of psychogenic stuttering to be quite rare.

Developmental stuttering is the most common form of stuttering. It occurs when young children are developing their speech and language skills and approx 5% of children will stutter at some point in their childhood, lasting from a few weeks to sometimes years. Boys are twice as likely to have a stammer over girls but only 1% carry it in adulthood.

Perhaps the most debilitating aspect of this disorder is the anxiety that surrounds stuttering. Stuttering may cause situational fears, sound and word fears, tension, anxiety and a general feeling of being “out of control” during speech. If a person encounters a stressful situation or conversation, the likelihood of stuttering increases.

While there is no known cure for stuttering, it can be largely overcome, if not entirely eradicated. There are various methods of treatment including speech therapy, self-therapy, support groups, fluency shaping therapy or even medication that can be employed to treat the condition. Whichever methods an individual chooses to employ, it is important to real
1000
ize that stuttering need not be a lifelong debilitating burden. With proper treatment and therapy, people who stutter can reduce anxiety, gain confidence in speaking and lead rich, fulfilling lives.

by: Jerald Chan

Physical therapy usually begins shortly after the diagnosis is made. Specific exercises are used in physical therapy to prevent the weakening or deterioration of muscles from disuse (disuse atrophy) and to avoid muscle contracture (muscles fixed in a rigid, abnormal position).

Contracture is one of the most common and serious complications of cerebral palsy and can seriously disrupt balance. Activities such as running and walking in child whose bones are growing stretch the body’s muscles and tendons. As a result, muscles generally grow at the same rate as the growing bones. In children with cerebral palsy, spasticity prevents the body’s muscles from stretching so that the muscles do not grow fast enough to keep up with the growing bones.

As children approach school age, physical therapy will help the child by improving his or her ability to sit, and to move independently or in a wheelchair. Many children benefit from occupational therapy which helps the child to develop such skills as feeding, dressing, or using the bathroom. Speech therapy works to identify specific difficulties a child with cerebral palsy may have or to help the child, if necessary to learn to use special communication devices.

Behavioral therapy uses psychological theory and techniques to assist the child with cerebral palsy with his or her physical, speech, or occupational therapy.

Vocational training, recreation programs and special education may be necessary as a child with cerebral palsy grows older. Adults may need assistance with living accommodations, and transportation.

Counseling for emotional and psychological challenges may be needed at any age, most often during adolescence.

DRUG THERAPY

Drug Therapy is necessary for those who have seizures associated with cerebral palsy, and may be effective in preventing seizures in many patients.

Drugs may be used to control spasticity for short periods of time. Generally the medications used most often are those which act as a general relaxant of the brain and body (diazepam); which block signals sent from the spinal cord to contract the muscles (baclofen); and which interfere with the process of muscle contraction (dantrolene). The use of drugs may cause serious side effects, such as drowsiness, and their long-term effects on the developing nervous system are largely unknown.

Drugs may help reduce abnormal movements in patients with athetoid cerebral palsy. The drugs most often prescribed are anticholinergics. These drugs work by reducing the activity of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger that helps some brain cells communicate, and that trigger muscle contraction.

What’s the treatment for cerebral palsy?

There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but various forms of therapy can help a person with the disorder to function more effectively. Comprehensive treatment of cerebral palsy requires a multidisciplinary team approach to help maximize and coordinate movement, minimize discomfort and pain, and prevent long-term complications. This team may include a neurologist, an orthopedist, and physical, speech and occupational therapists. In addition, social workers can provide

support to families and help to identify private and community resources. Most children with cerebral palsy benefit from early and regular physical and occupational therapy. Some children need braces and supports to help them stand and walk; surgical procedures, such as tendon releases or bone surgery (especially on hips and spine); and treatments to reduce spasticity.

Treatment for a child with CP depends on the severity, nature, and location of the impairment, as well as the associated problems the child has. Optimal care of a child with mild CP may involve regular interaction with only a physical therapist and occupational therapist, whereas care for a more severely affected child may include a speech-language therapist, special education teacher, adaptive sports therapist, nutritionist, orthopedic surgeon, and neurosurgeon. Since CP is not a progressive disorder, its symptoms will not worsen with time. Nonetheless, the way in which those symptoms affect the growing child will change over time, and may require new strategies for treatment, adaptation, and compensation.

Parents of a child newly diagnosed with CP are not likely to have the necessary expertise to coordinate the full range of care their child will need. Although knowledgeable and caring medical professionals are indispensable for developing a care plan, a potentially more important source of information and advice is other parents who have dealt with the same set of difficulties. Support groups of parents of physically or mentally impaired children can be significant sources of both practical advice and emotional support. Many cities have support groups that can be located through the United Cerebral Palsy Association or a local hospital or social service agency. Children with CP are also eligible for special education services. The diagnosing doctor should refer parents to the local school district for these services. Even children aged 0–3 years are eligible through “early intervention.”

SAN DIEGO, California (AFP) – US scientists have restored speech to stroke victims by getting them to sing words instead of speaking them, a leading neurologist said.

Gottfried Schlaug, an associate professor of neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, showed a video of a patient with a stroke lesion on the left side of the brain who was asked to recite the words of a birthday song.

The patient could not comply, and merely repeated the letters N and O.

But when Schlaug asked him to sing the song while someone held the patient’s left hand and tapped it rhythmically, the words “happy birthday to you” came out clear as day.

“This patient has meaningless utterances when we ask him to say the words but as soon as we asked him to sing, he was able to speak the words,” Schlaug told reporters at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Another patient was taught to say, “I am thirsty” by singing, while another who suffered a large lesion on the left side of the brain and had tried various, ultimately unsuccessful therapies for several years to try to regain the power of speech was taught to say his address.

Images of the brains of patients with stroke lesions on the left side of the brain — which is typically used more for speech — show “functional and structural changes” on the right side of the brain after they have undergone this form of therapy through song, called Music Intonation Therapy (MIT).

Although medical literature has documented the phenomenon of people who are unable to speak being able to utter words when singing, Schlaug was the first to run a randomized clinical trial of MIT, with a view to gaining acceptance of the therapy in the medical field.

“You don’t need to be a trained singer to do this. We want to teach caregivers to do MIT because the treatment is very long and expensive,” said Schlaug.

MIT treatment can last for 14-16 years, and involves sessions of an hour and a half a day, five days a week.

But the benefits of the therapy are usually permanent, and two thirds of patients who have undergone MIT with Schlaug added more words to their spoken vocabulary after their therapy had ended than the 100 words they were “taught” to say in therapy.

Exactly how MIT works is not clear, but another study presented at the AAAS meeting by Aniruddh Patel of the Neurosciences Institute showed that grammatical processing of language and music overlaps in the brain.

Schlaug said music helps parts of the brain that usually do not engage with each other when a person speaks, to do so.

“Music-making is a multisensory experience that simultaneously activates several systems in the brain and links and loops them together. It engages many regions of the brain,” he said.

Tapping the patient’s hand gently on the table “might serve as a pacemaker for the motor articulatory system in the brain,” said Schlaug.

“Combining motor activity with sound might facilitate speech.”

In the United States, MIT could potentially help up to 70,000 nonverbal stroke victims to retrieve the ability to speak, according to the neurologist.

Scientists find first genes linked to stuttering – Yahoo! News

NEW YORK – Why people stutter has long been a medical mystery, with the condition blamed over the years on emotional problems, overbearing parents and browbeating teachers. Now, for the first time, scientists have found genes that could explain some cases of stuttering.

“In terms of mythbusters, this is really an important step forward,” said Jane Fraser, president of the Stuttering Foundation.

Researchers taking part in a government-funded study discovered mutations in three genes that appear to cause the speech problem in some people. Stuttering tends to run in families, and previous research suggested a genetic connection. But until now, researchers had not been able to pinpoint any culprit genes.

Dennis Drayna, a geneticist and senior author of the study, said he hopes the results help convince doubters that stuttering “is almost certainly a biological problem.”

The research — released Wednesday by the New England Journal of Medicine — also points to a possible enzyme treatment for stuttering someday.

Without a known cause, stuttering has been attributed to such things as nervousness, lack of intelligence, stress or bad parenting. Stutterers were told it was all in their heads. Fraser said parents contact her group worried they have done something to cause their children’s stuttering. Were they too strict? Too attentive? Didn’t pay enough attention?

The gene discovery should lift that guilt, she said.

Drayna and other experts said that while stress and anxiety can make stuttering worse, they do not cause it. “It really is not an emotional disorder. It doesn’t come from your interactions with other people,” he said.

Stuttering usually starts in children as they are learning to talk. Most youngsters lose their stutter as their brain develops. For some, the stuttering persists. An estimated 3 million Americans stutter. Treatments include speech therapy and electronic devices.

“This is a very difficult disorder to study,” said Drayna, who is with the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. “You can’t study it in cells in a dish. You can’t study it in a test tube. You can only study it in awake humans.”

To find the genes, Drayna and others first looked at a large, inbred Pakistani family with many members who stuttered, and discovered a mutation on chromosome 12. Then they found the same mutation and two other mutated genes in a group of nearly 400 other people from Pakistan, the U.S. and England who stutter.

They didn’t find the mutations in a similar group of people who don’t stutter, except in one Pakistani volunteer.

The researchers estimate that the three gene variants account for 9 percent of all stuttering cases. But they are looking for other stuttering genes. In fact, between 50 percent and 70 percent of stuttering cases are thought to have a genetic component, Drayna said.

“The task of connecting the dots between genes and stuttering is just beginning,” Simon E. Fisher of England’s Oxford University wrote in an accompanying editorial.

The three implicated genes normally help run the “recycling bin” where cells of the body send their garbage. The mutations apparently interfere with that, affecting brain cells that control speech.

“People had suggested all sorts of causes for stuttering over the years. An inherited disorder of cell metabolism was never on anyone’s list,” Drayna said.

Two of the stuttering genes have previously been tied to rare diseases that can occur when the cell’s recycling bin malfunctions.

Other related disorders are now being treated by replacing a missing enzyme, and that could eventually be a treatment method for some kinds of stuttering, the researchers said.

Kristin Chmela, a speech therapist from suburban Chicago who specializes in treating stuttering, said she was teased and bullied for her own stuttering while growing up, and “there were lots of days where I was afraid to go to school.”

She said she is looking forward to sharing the gene discovery with those she treats: “It’s going to be very interesting to see the reaction on some of their faces.”

Does your toddler or young child have problems with their speech? Are you a child who has a stutter/stammer? In this article I write about communication and speech problems in childhood.

The type of speech impediment I am going to concentrate on is stuttering. I myself had a stutter from the age of four and it was after eighteen years and at the age of twenty-two, that I finally managed to overcome it.

I was not alone as many children have problems with their speech from an early age. It is estimated that one percent of people in England have a stutter.

In most cases people start stuttering in childhood, often when they are a toddler. This can be a very worrying and stressful period for parents and the child alike, and where to seek help can often be difficult to know. To attend speech therapy straight away, can have a damaging affect as it can over-highlight the problem to the child and can make them withdraw into their shells. Parents though in most cases are not happy to just ignore the problem and to hope it goes away of its own accord.

Stuttering affects people in different ways. Some people who stutter are very good at hiding it and are sometimes known as a closet stutterer. Many people they mix with, may not even be aware that they have a stuttering problem. They have become so good at avoiding certain words or by finding alternative words, that they can make out that they are fluent. This takes a lot of effort though and it comes as more of a shock to people when the person does actually stutter.

Other people who have a stutter are unable to do this and can have what is seen as a more severe stutter.

A stutter would normally occur more when a person is:

under pressure

very tired

meeting new people

speaking in an uncomfortable situation

asking questions, for example asking for directions

introducing people

Stuttering therapy:

There are many types of stuttering therapy or stuttering treatments available these days. Most people would first try a speech therapist or speech pathologist. Alternatively they can attend a speech course which can be in a group or on a one to one basis.

I personally prefer and advise one to one stutter courses as I believe every person who has a stutter is an individual and has their own individual type of stutter.

There are also stuttering self help dvd’s or stuttering self help ebooks now available for people who do not feel they have the confidence to attend a speech course.

Singing helps stroke victims regain speech – Yahoo! Singapore News

SAN DIEGO, California (AFP) – – US scientists have restored speech to stroke victims by getting them to sing words instead of speaking them, a leading neurologist said.

Woods heading back to therapy after speech – Yahoo! News

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Tiger Woods will return to therapy after he ends a three-month silence and speaks about his infidelity and his future.

Golf’s biggest star on Friday will address the shocking and sordid sex scandal that has consumed his life since late November then will return to the clinic where he has been undergoing therapy, according to a letter from PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem obtained by The Associated Press.

Finchem’s letter to the PGA Tour policy board and other officials explained why Woods chose Friday to make his first public comments, which are to be televised live by the major networks.

“As we understand it, Tiger’s therapy called for a week’s break at this time during which he has spent a few days with his children and then will make his statement before returning,” Finchem said in the letter Thursday. “Accordingly, there was very little flexibility in the date for the announcement.”

The letter shed no light on whether Woods plans to return to the tour anytime soon.

Golf’s biggest star is to make his first public appearance since he ran his SUV over a fire hydrant and into a tree outside his Florida home on Nov. 27 and sent him into hiding.

The setting for his return is decidedly friendly. It may be hard to remember the planet is watching.

Woods will speak to a small group of “friends, colleagues and close associates” in the Sunset Room on the second floor of the TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour. Just one video camera will broadcast the event and there will be no questions.

Woods’ statement comes during the Match Play Championship, sponsored by Accenture, the first company to drop Woods as a pitchman.

Ernie Els was among players who were upset to learn that Woods had chosen the week of a World Golf Championship for a public appearance that was sure to take attention away from the tournament. “It’s selfish,” Els told Golfweek magazine.

Finchem told reporters in Marana, Ariz., earlier this week that he didn’t think Woods’ appearance would undermine Accenture, and that Woods’ handlers “have their own reasons for their schedule.”

In the letter, he said the tour discussed the timing with Accenture and “they understand that the PGA Tour was not involved in determining the timing of the statement.” Finchem also noted that Woods’ comments would be over well before television coverage of the third round from Dove Mountain.

The PGA Tour made available its sprawling, Mediterranean-styled clubhouse for the announcement, and was helping set up adjacent ballrooms at the nearby Sawgrass Marriott for media, where they will watch Woods on closed-circuit TV. Finchem said in the letter that Woods’ management asked for the facilities, and “we agreed as we would for any member of the PGA Tour.”

About 300 people had registered as media at the site, and about 25 satellite trucks were parked outside Friday. Television crews by the dozen were broadcasting from the scene.

No other PGA Tour player could command this kind of attention.

Woods is one of the most recognized athletes in the world. Television ratings double when he is in contention, which has happened a lot on his way to winning 71 times on the PGA Tour and 14 majors, four short of the record held by Jack Nicklaus.

No other athlete had such a spectacular fall. Accenture and AT&T have ended their endorsement contracts with him, and Woods has become the butt of jokes on everything from late shows to Disney performances.

In the hours leading up to his appearance, it already was shaping up as a major event.

Along with familiar faces, Woods’ management team invited limited media.

“This is not a press conference,” Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent, said on Wednesday.

Three wire services — the AP, Reuters and Bloomberg — were invited. The Golf Writers Association of America was offered a pool of three reporters, negotiated for six reporters, then its board of directors voted overwhelmingly not to participate.

“I cannot stress how strongly our board felt that this should be open to all media and also for the opportunity to question Woods,” said Vartan Kupelian, president of the 950-member group. “The position, simply put, is all or none. This is a major story of international scope. To limit the ability of journalists to attend, listen, see and question Woods goes against the grain of everything we believe.”

The public hasn’t had a clean look at Woods’ face since photos Wednesday of him jogging in his neighborhood outside Orlando.

More pool photos were released on Thursday showing him hitting balls on the practice range; Woods never allowed his picture taken on the range last year when returning from knee surgery.

Far more compelling, however, will be the sound of his voice. Woods has not been heard in the 78 days since a magazine released a voicemail he allegedly left one of the women to whom he has been romantically linked, warning that Woods’ wife might be calling.

Instead of going on “Oprah” or another national television show to break the ice, Woods essentially will be speaking to the lone camera allowed in the room. It will be televised via satellite.

Have a great day!

Cure for Stuttering?

I have a slight stutter (kinda like mumbling) or something along those lines (which people tell me is hard to notice, but I seem to notice it a lot), that I find really annoying when I talk to someone. Sometimes I can say a complete sentence without screwing up, but other times I just fumble every second word.

I find it hard to say somethings like, for e.g. “Josh sucks!” or “Douche says what?”… Probably because of the “shh” and “ess” sounds very close to each other (Don't ask where I got those sentences from), but for some reason I can't say the words together without pausing. But thats all I really have trouble with pronouncing, everything else I have no idea why I mess up.

I really want to become a pilot when I get older and if I can't talk strait I might not be able to pass selection…

If anyone has any ideas of what I could do, or a speech therapist that could give me some ideas of what I could do to calm it down or completely stop it PLEASE TELL ME!

Tiger Woods says sorry, golf return still unknown – Yahoo! News

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Missing his smile and aura of invincibility, Tiger Woods finally showed his face to a waiting world Friday and apologized again for cheating on his wife, without revealing the scope of his infidelity or when he will return to golf.

Standing at a podium before a presidential-blue backdrop in a hushed room of his closest associates, Woods stumbled a few times as he read a 13 1/2-minute statement. He offered no new details of what happened or what’s next, except that he was leaving Saturday for more therapy.

“I have made you question who I am and how I could have done the things I did,” Woods said.

Woods’ wife, Elin, did not attend his first public appearance since he crashed his car into a tree outside their home three months ago, setting off shocking allegations of rampant extramarital affairs.

“I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated,” Woods said. “What I did was not acceptable.”

Woods alternately looked into the camera and at the 40 people in the room, raising his voice only to deny that his wife ever hit him and to demand that the paparazzi leave his family alone. Beyond that, there were stretches when Woods — with his formidable business empire — could have been reading from a tough corporate report.

He entered the room alone. When he finished, he stopped for a long embrace with his mother, Kultida, who said she whispered in his ear, “I’m so proud of you. Never think you stand alone. Mom will always be there for you, and I love you.”

Regaining trust and support from everyone else might not be so easy.

Woods already has lost two corporate endorsements — Accenture and AT&T — and he has gone from being perhaps the most famous athlete in the world to a punch line in night clubs and on talk shows.

“It’s now up to me to make amends, and that starts by never repeating the mistakes I’ve made,” Woods said. “It’s up to me to start living a life of integrity.”

Woods left therapy on Feb. 11 and has been spending time with his two children and his mother — but not his wife — in Orlando, according to a person with knowledge of Woods’ schedule. The person, not authorized to release such information, spoke on condition of anonymity.

Woods did not say how much longer he would be in therapy, only that “I have a long way to go.”

Pool photos were released Thursday of Woods hitting golf balls on the practice range.

“I do plan to return to golf one day,” Woods said. “I just don’t know when that day will be. I don’t rule out that it will be this year. When I do return, I need to make my behavior more respectful of the game.”

Just as unpredictable is the future of his marriage. Woods said he and his wife have started discussing the damage he has done.

“As Elin pointed out to me, my apology to her will not come in the form of words. It will come from my behavior over time,” Woods said. “We have a lot to discuss. However, what we say to each other will remain between the two of us.”

After an embrace with his mother, Woods hugged the two women who sat on either side of her — Amy Reynolds, formerly of Nike who now works for Tiger Woods Design, and Kathy Battaglia, who is Woods’ administrative assistant at ETW Corp.

He made his way down the front row and greeted others — his chief financial officer, Web site administrator, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem and Notah Begay, who played with Woods at Stanford and withdrew from the PGA Tour event in Mexico.

Begay said Woods had a long, tough recovery ahead of him — not only at home, but before thousands of fans behind the ropes.

“It’s a little bit harder than making a swing change,” Begay said.

Woods remained composed throughout the statement, pausing briefly before the first of several apologies. At times, however, he looked into the camera almost on cue. Begay said he got choked up listening, and felt his words were sincere.

“This is as emotional as I’ve ever seen him in public,” Begay said.

The only employee not on the front row was Bryon Bell, his friend from junior high who now is president of his design company. Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent at IMG, sat on the last of three rows with 14 PGA Tour executives.

“He’s an American hero. And he’s had his issues,” Finchem said. “At the end of the day, he’s a human being. We all make mistakes. My personal reaction was that his comments were heartfelt. He clearly recognizes that there has been serious impact to a wide range of individuals and organizations.”

Some of the eight players at the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona watched the coverage before the third round.

“From a guy that’s done a lot of tough things in golf over the years, it was probably one of the most difficult things he’s ever had to do,” British Open champion Stewart Cink said. “And it was something probably that’s going to help him along the way of healing.”

In Sweden, Elin’s father, Thomas Nordegren, saw Woods’ confession.

“I watched it but I have nothing to say right now,” Nordegren told The Associated Press. Elin’s mother, Barbro Holmberg, declined to comment through her spokeswoman.

Friday’s event was tightly controlled, with only a few journalists allowed to watch Woods live. The confession became a major television event with the networks breaking in to show it.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos called the speech “one of the most remarkable public apologies ever by a public figure.”

Said golf analyst David Feherty on CBS: “The vast number of people just want their Tiger Woods back.”

Certainly, no other PGA Tour player could command this kind of attention.

But Woods has always been special on the course and in popular culture. Television ratings double when he is in contention, which has happened a lot on his way to winning 71 times on the PGA Tour and 14 majors, four short of the record held by Jack Nicklaus.

Nicklaus watched the announcement, but a spokesman said he would have no comment.

Most of the associates left the room when Woods finished speaking. Among those who stayed were Mrs. Woods, who rarely gives interview but in this case said, “I would like to talk.”

She said her son has a “good heart and good soul” but made a mistake. Mrs. Woods, raised in Thailand, also claims the media showed a “double standard” by keeping the sex scandal in the news for so long.

“Some of media, especially tabloid, hurt my son bad,” Mrs. Woods said. “He didn’t do anything illegal. He didn’t kill anybody. But he try to improve himself. He try to go to therapy and help. He change that and making better. When he go do all this thing, he will come out stronger and a better person.”

As his Thai-born mother sat with arms folded across her chest, Woods said part of his rehab would include a return to his Buddhist faith. Woods said his mother raised him as a Buddhist, and he practiced his faith “until I drifted away from it in recent years.”

“Buddhism teaches that a craving for things outside ourselves causes an unhappy and pointless search for security,” Woods said. “It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously I lost track of what I was taught.”

The companies that have stuck most closely by Woods, Nike Inc. and Electronic Arts Inc., reiterated their support.

“Tiger has apologized and made his position clear. Nike fully supports him and his family. We look forward to him returning to golf,” the company said in a statement.

EA Sports president Peter Moore said: “It was good to see Tiger address the public today, and we’re supportive of his focus toward family and rebuilding his life.”

Woods’ appearance drew reaction from all corners, even at the Winter Games in Vancouver.

“It’s a bummer, his personal life,” Olympic gold-medalist Shaun White said. “He’s trying to pick his words very carefully and apologize. I respect that.”

Veronica Siwik-Daniels, one of Woods’ alleged mistresses and a former pornographic performer, watched the event with her attorney in a Los Angeles radio studio. She said she wants an apology for the unwanted attention the scandal has brought her.

“I really feel I deserve to look at him in person face to face in the eyes because I did not deserve this,” she said.

If you have a speech impediment such as stuttering then you know how difficult it is to communicate with other people. You constantly fumble over your words and people laugh at you. But this isn’t because you are less intelligent. It is just because you have a speech impediment.

A lot of people assume that stuttering can be solved with practice in front of a mirror or taking a class to calm your nerves but it is a much more serious issue than that. A lot of people don’t understand that stuttering is serious. They just assume that those with a stutter or a stammer are speaking too fast and need to slow down. But no matter how slow a stutterer speaks, they just can’t help their speech impediment.

So if you have a stutter or a stammer, what can you do in order to get rid of it? How can you improve your speech? There is a stuttering cure that you can trust. It is a simple and effective way to curb your speech impediment. All you have to do is meditate. Meditation is a great way to retrain your brain and your body. If you can practice meditation everyday, soon you will be able to change the way that your body works. You can retrain your brain to process sentences at the same pace as your mouth. That way, you will never have a stuttering problem again. You will be able to speak at the right pace and never struggle through another sentence.

Treatment Advice for Stuttering?

My friend's 11 year old daughter has a stuttering problem. He has been told that there is no cure and that his daughter will be a stutterer for life.

But are there any treatment options that can minimize the symptoms of stuttering?
