Hey elfette! We're going out... YOU & ME. What would you wear and how would you do your face? Are you a smoky eye kinda girl or a bold lip? My model Maria is most definitely a red lip in the endless sea of boring nudes! I am a huge fan of the assortment of reds that e.l.f. has to offer and there's a different formula for everyone! Whether matte, glossy, or both... we have something for your night out. If you've never tried a red, start off light with a gloss and get used to seeing yourself in it over several days. Then just progress to something deeper as you get more comfortable! We love our fans who adventure into red!

STEP 1
I applied a light layer of the Moisturizing Foundation Stick onto Maria's skin, using the e.l.f. Essential Foundation Brush. This brush is great for skin that is free of too much texture. The foundation works well to give a dewy glow to tired or dry skin.

STEP 2 + 3
Since the lips are the star of this tutorial, I started off Maria's eyes with a Mineral Eyeshadow with a matte texture, called "Innocent." Pat the shadow on gently using the "C" Brush, for even application.

Maria has on the Mineral Eyeshadow in "Glamorous," in the crease of her eye. This can be applied using the e.l.f. Studio Contour Brush to blend and smooth the shadow. Complete your eyes with a bit

of liquid eyeliner and black e.l.f. Studio Waterproof Mascara to add contrast.

STEP 4
Bold lips look best when your cheeks are blush-less! Use a soft bronzer to add a bit of warmth to your cheeks without overdoing it. I chose the e.l.f. Studio Bronzer in Warm to give Maria a soft-focus and let her lips really shine!

STEP 5
The under-eye setting powder is amazing for so many reasons... 1. it can blur fine lines, 2. it has a bit of glow to it that can make it look like you slept well, 3. it sets your concealer really well! I am obsessed! Use it under or over your makeup with the e.l.f. Studio Angled Contour brush for precision application.

STEP 6
The best step of course! Applying your lips can sometimes be trickier than it seems. Start off with a light application of lip liner in the color that best matches the lipstick you'll be wearing. This will help you create a guide around the edges of your lip to fill into. Then slowly apply your lipstick inside of the guides you created with your lip liner. Top off with gloss! Maria is wearing the e.l.f. Studio Lip Stain in Red Carpet, with Funky Fuchsia Glossy Gloss on top.

Trouble getting a perfect lip shape? If you've finished your look, don't be afraid to go back in with your liner and fill in missing areas or re-shape using a clean sponge!

We had our friend Sarah come all the way from Connecticut to our studio in NYC and do an awesome Summer Glow how-to with us! This look is quick, easy and perfect for Summer, especially desk-to-happy hour!

Step 1:

Start by hydrating the skin with our Daily Moisture Stick. Apply all over the face, concentrating in dry areas. Next, apply your foundation and concealer where needed.

Step 2:

Prime the eyes using our Mineral Eyeshadow Primer for makeup that wont crease or fade all day.

Step 3:

Using our Flawless Eyeshadow in 'Beautiful Browns', apply the 'base' shade to the lid all the way up to the brow bone. Use the 'crease' shade, a gorgeous copper, on the outer edges of the eyes.

Step 4:

Apply black eyeliner to the upper lash line and mascara to the lashes for definition.

Step 5:

Define the lower lash line by applying that same copper shade using a Flat Eyeliner Brush.

Step 6:

Grab our Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder and apply the bronzer where the sun would normally hit the face- to the cheekbones, forehead, and across the nose. Using the Mineral Powder Brush, apply the blush to the apples of the cheek for a rosy flush.

Step 4:

Add some 'glow' to the skin using our studio Body Glow. Apply using a fan brush to the tops of the cheekbones for a gorgeous Summer highlight.

Step 7:

Finish off the look with our Super Glossy Lip Shine in 'Goddess'.

This week, our go-to area manager and stylist Jolyn gives us the dish on pairing bold colors! Check out her fabulous outfits and tips below.

Mixing and matching colors can sometimes be a risky little game to play. While you don’t want to look like your outfit is “tasting the rainbow,” you also don’t want to be that color-shy girl who sticks to pairing a single color (or no color at all) with black, white or plain denim. Rest assured, I am here to help. Use a color wheel (as illustrated below) to help create harmonious color combinations and, I promise, mixing and matching will suddenly be a cinch.

It works like this: pick a color on the wheel, then use the color section directly opposite to find a shade that’s complementary. And color wheels go beyond just outfits—it’s also genius to use one if you want your pedi and mani to “mesh well” or even to coordinate makeup colors. So pop open that bag of rainbow-hued candy and get inspired, because nothing says summer like a bit of color.

RED & GREEN

Nothing heats up a safari jacket more than a pop of red—and yes, while this olive green jacket would look perfectly A-okay paired with neutrals and denim, that look would be so expected, while the pop of red is so incredibly unexpected yet completely color complementary. Dark hues also look amazing paired with gold as gold has a tendency to “warm up” any look, so while it might not be hot yet in your neck of the woods, this outfit will warrant turning up the AC.

YELLOW & PURPLE

Yellow and purple is one of my favorite color pairings as it’s so beautifully unexpected. While it may be an “aggressive” color combo for you if you are “color cautious,” think of smaller ways to pop color into your look. This flowy dress, I must admit, is a lot of yellow, so while I don’t recommend pairing it with a purple blazer or even painting your walls with these two colors (as the color wheel also works wonders for home decor), use the complementary color as an accent as seen here with this perfectly polished purple mani. Not only are you adding color to your look in a visually appealing way, but really, who can argue with an outfit that’s clearly so put together?

ORANGE & BLUE

This look is quite the visual illusion. What may seem like a sherbet-y fun miniskirt is really a bodycon dress layered under this gorgeous blue asymmetric top. Not only is this color combo coordinated oh so well, but layering on a top is a fun way to change the look of a form-fitting dress. Wearing more flowy pieces over form-fitting ones adds a different and stylish dynamic to an outfit…especially when you’re layering with colors! Since you’re mixing different textures (and colors) in this look, keep accessories neutral as seen here with the beige clutch and shoes, both with pops of gold. This look will keep you bright all night and even into the wee hours of the morning.
