Its been a while since I posted a sewing tutorial so this weekend I got myself busy making a sewing project. I wanted to make something that would relate to the upcoming valentines day.And what better than making a heart, but heart would be too simple...
Click on the image for the tutorial:

During Christmas I did not have enough time for decorating as I was busy with work and exams so this time I started the Easter decor bit early so that I do not have to rush myself with the last minute decorations. I have a few Easter craft ideas in my mind which I will try and post asap, so stay tuned for that.
For today I have made these cute little fabric chickens as a Easter table decor. You can also use them as a fabric centrepiece for this Easter. The flat bottom will make it easy for them to sit on a table or shelf or can be even placed on candle holders.
If your celebrating a animal themed party then this stuffed chicken table decor will be just the one you will need.

Supplies you will need:
Scrap fabric
Button or bead for eyes
Polyfill or cotton
Cutting tools.
Sewing machine.
Cardboard
Glue

Cut the pattern for the chicken, 2 main body fabric pieces, 2 pieces for the crown and 2 fabric pieces for the beak. Sew the crown and beak pieces with right sides together, trim off the edges, turn inside out and stuff with polyfill or cotton.

Take one piece of the main fabric and place right side up. Pin the crown and the beak to the inside. Place another main fabric piece over it with right side down, pin and sew, leaving the bottom part unsewn.

Turn the chicken inside out and fill with polyfill.

Take a round cardboard piece and fit it into the bottom of the chicken.

Fold the excess fabric inside and glue. Take a round fabric piece and glue it to the bottom to hide the raw edges.

Sew a button or a bead for the eyes.

I have seen a lot of t shirt stenciling with freezer paper, they just give a new look to your t shirts and also make a great gift idea. I wanted to try stenciling my t shirt but since I did not have any freezer paper I thought why not I substitute freezer paper with self adhesive vinyl. Also I have already seen a lot of stenciling with freezer paper so I just wanted to try a different method.
I used a butterfly and heart pattern with black and white paint. You can use any pattern and paint colour of your choice.
I love bows in every size and colour.Specially polka dot bows look absolutely awesome. I wanted to make bow shoes but I could not decide which colour I wanted the bow to be in. So I made these removable puffy bow elastic straps so that I would make different coloured bows to go with my outfits. These removable straps can also make a great gift idea.
I love ruffles whether on bags, dresses, cushions or even sleeves. They add a flirty touch to the boring outfit. I have seen a lot of celebrities with ruffled sleeve dresses.
I added ruffled sleeves to my boring tank top today. I have used a red cotton fabric for the sleeves. You can refashion your sleeveless t shirts, tank tops or dresses by adding a ruffles sleeves to it. It is simple and easy to make and you will love the final outfit.
Pin cushion comes under sewing tools and supplies. I have written a separate post of must have sewing supplies and have explained about the uses of pin cushion, which you can find here. I was using a pin cushion which I had bought from the craft stores. You can find a variety of pin cushions and also wrist pin cushions.
In this post I have upcycled jewellery boxes into pin cushion and a wrist pin cushion. This is also a 5min no sew project.
I still had some self adhesive vinyl sheets left from making the vinyl labels so I used it add some room decor and decorate some light switches. These vinyl stickers are great for kids room. You can make them in different patterns and can be creative in making your own switch plates.
I have a lot of plain t shirts in different colours and so i thought I would personalise them with some applique work. I then ended up adding words for this t shirt and I did not have enough space for the applique which I thought I would add. Anyways I will be soon doing another post on t shirt applique.
You can make these as a personalised gift to your loved ones by adding quotes, words or even messages.
I had bought a roll of self adhesive vinyl and here is my first post using self adhesive vinyl. This is a simple and easy tutorial and also helps you keep things organised in kitchen. You can add a personal touch to the ordinary plain boxes. You can use them on plastic containers, glass jars, door etc. It is simple to apply and can be easily removed.
Woohoo !! I made this cute little hair band out of my old t shirt. I just had a black hair band with me and some old t shirt which I wanted to upcycle. I love the previously made hairbands out of tshirt. which you can check out here. I did not like the black hairband I had as it looked all dull and boring and also it kind off used to hurt me when I wore it so it differently needed a make over.
The finished hair band looks awesome and also slides smoothly on my hair. You can make as many flowers as you like and also if you have different coloured tshirts to recycle then you can make it into a multicoloured hair band.
My mum and I love to ready and hence I wanted a organiser or a hanger for the newspapers and magazines that are otherwise laying around. My mum wanted it to be simple so I used some fabric and elastic to make this organiser. You can use it to hang over the door or a window.
You can make this project under 15 mins so it is a simple fabric organiser tutorial and also a beginners project. You can also use this tutorial to make a shoe organiser.
After the butterfly wall stickers I wanted some more wall art for my home and so I made this awesome cat and butterfly wall art. It is made using fabric I used black fabric you can use any colorful fabrics too.
This fabric covered cat wall sticker is so special that anytime I look at it, it makes me smile. And for the people who do not have any pets just like me this wall art is just perfect.
My mum and I love to read so we have a lot of magazines laying around and that is why I wanted a magazine organiser. Although I did make an organiser I later used it to keep my sewing fabric but I did promise mum to make a magazine organiser pretty soon. This organiser is a simple and easy to make and can be used to store anything. You can also make this into a fabric tool organiser to store your tools or if your into sewing like me then use it to organise fabric or sewing supplies.

If you have been following my post you would know that I will be travelling in a few weeks and that is why I am busy getting all the things ready for my travel. A few back I had made a travel cosmetic makeup bag for the same and this time I wanted some luggage tags for my travel bags which is a must have travel accessory. Hence, I made these cute little fabric flip flop luggage tags.

Aren't they the cutest?? Once I was done I loved the tags so much that I decided to make a few of them as a gift to my family and friends, not only are they cute but also useful so they will make a perfect gift. You can also use the same tutorial to make flip flop fabric key chain.

This weekend though I had to make a fabric organiser I was in no mood to sew and since it is a party season due to valentines I thought of making a garland decoration. Yes !! another garland decoration...
While I wanted to make a duck decoration, when I was drawing the pattern it was a kissing duck pattern that it turned out to be and also if you are thinking this time thank god there are no hearts in the post then watch carefully as the kissing ducks do form a heart.. :)

Here is a quick post on valentines day wall decor. After the newspaper wall art I have been requested to do a post on recycling magazines and since my mum and I love to read, we get a lot of magazines every month. And I have been working on projects to upcycle magazines. You can use any words to make this project, but as it is valentines season I used LOVE as my word... :)
I always was reluctant to try sewing with vinyl but someday I had to give it a shot, so last week when I was out shopping I bought some soft vinyl sheets. Before starting my project I just took some strips of vinyl and started sewing just to adjust the thread tension and to know if it sticks to my sewing machine and it did.... I then used the technique most of them use while sewing on vinyl that is to use a paper tape on the foot and it worked great. I still had to adjust the thread tension a few times while sewing a zipper or velcro on a vinyl.
The things I learnt from my experience and the tips I would like to share are that after your previous project oil your sewing machine, use a new needle while starting your project, use paper tape on the foot or you can also sandwich a tissue paper in between the vinyl and foot.
I wanted to make a zipper vinyl purse and vinyl velcro pouch, so I combined it together and made a travel cosmetic roll up bag.
I love jigsaw puzzles they are fun to play and a great way to pass the time. I have been playing jigsaw puzzle since my childhood and they have been one of my favourite games. I love to time myself while paying it and also challenge my friends. Exciting isn't it !! But when you can make your own set of jigsaw puzzles it is a lot more exciting.
I thought of using butterfly as the pattern since I was using a lot of scrap fabric which I had from my previous projects. I do not throw scrap fabric as I know I can use them to make some cute projects. And since my project was going to be colourful I decided to use a butterfly pattern. If your planing to make some thing out of scrap fabric then this is the best project and also it is a no sew project. It can be also used as a kids project and can be made as a birthday gift.
If you are following my post you would know that I love to recycle and so I have used cereal boxes to recycle them into scrap fabric jigsaw puzzle.

The important fashion statement this year for winter is hats. They improve your outlook and avoid the cold, both at the same time. They are so versatile that they can be worn with any outfit or occasions. They come in different styles, shapes and colours. You can also style your hair using hats and it is also best to hide a bad hair day.

I took a while to make a tutorial on hat as I was not sure if I could get it right but when I was done making one I felt it was a very easy project and I could use this tutorial and make hats with different styles. It fit me the way I wanted it to and also I am super excited as I have my own handmade hat.

My last post was on foldable heart bag and this is my second sewing project to make for this valentines day. I have planned to make a few projects where you can use heart as a pattern and make it into some adorable things like bags, accessories, decor, or heart bag which I have made today. You can also check my craft projects where I have used heart as a pattern and made a fabric roll and heart decorations.
I wanted my pouch to be nice and soft so I have used fleece as I had some fleece material with me. You can use any other fabric of your choice. You can use this project if your planning to make a handmade gift for this valentines.
I love paper decorations. They brighten the room and also add a romantic touch to it. so if your planning to throw a party, I would recommend you to add these hearts garland to your party decoration ideas. They can be used for new year parties, birthday's, wedding decorations and also are great for valentines day parties too. Make them in different colours and shapes and you will glam up your party venue on a budget. ;-)
