Vudu will also hold court to Globe One Youth Project that supports fashion photographer Niccolo Cosme Headshot Clinic. The campaign is a stand for change and unity among Filipino youths.

Design Lecture | Butch Carungay and Oj Hofer

When the Chiye Mori Design Library opened last May of this year, it was just the perfect venue to hold the Cebu Design Education Foundation (CDEF) Design Lecture last June 17. Advertising students, design-related courses students from San Carlos, design enthusiasts, media people, and friends of the organizers all congregated at the library de jour. I came to listen to two of the speakers of that evening: Butch Carungay and Oj Hofer.

Multi-awarded Gil “Butch” Carungay is a Cebu-based Filipino designer for Avatar Accessories and the company’s Managing Director. Almost a decade of designing custom and fashion jewelry, Butch Carungay has managed to level the playing field in the fashion business by exporting crafted costume jewelry all over the world. Oj Hofer is a Cebu-based fashion designer known to the fashionsphere for his draping and tailoring style.

Butch explained the business of designing and making your product’s design and launching timely with the current season. “If it is summer in two months, you would have shipped your accessories two months before already.” At the end of the lecture, Avatar Accessories were laid out in the open for everybody to ogle.

Cebu Design Education Foundation (CDEF) is a non-stock, non-profit organization founded by a core of local design professionals and educators. CDEF is committed to a vision to provide sustainable development through design education and a mission of providing a support system for the design community via a series of initiatives.

CDEF aims to invite design educators to teach and do design outreach. It also hopes to unit the design communities in Cebu and soon worldwide. Evin Oshima is the Chairman. Kenneth Cobonpue is the 1^st Chairman while Estela Ocampo is the 2^nd. Annie Chen is the Treasurer while Jacinto Ramos is the publicist. Lastly, Christina Manguerra is their Library Director.

Dexter Alazas of Alazas Atelier has been managing AD (for Alazas Dexter) Models since time memorial and is open to seeing more fresh faces here in Cebu. Just saying their name gives you goosebumps. The team behind the Hed Kandi concert last Sinulog weekend is coming back to Cebu to marshal a white congregation of Vuduphiles and Cebu’s A-list crowd. Let us all commemorate 10 years of clubbing glory with BIGFISH Innovation White Party this Saturday at VUDU, Cebu’s party institution.

BIGFISH is the leading dance production company in the Philippines having brought in many world renowned acts to the country in the past decade such as Paul Van Dyk, Carl Cox, Armin Van Buuren and for the first time in Cebu, HedKandi and Peyton as is yet unrivaled by any other dance events management company in the country.

Ford Supermodels of the World, formerly known as Face of the 80s, is the biggest international modeling contest held annually. The winner gets to have the industry’s cash prize of $250,000 and a modeling contract with Ford Models. Ford Models is the top modeling agency in New York City by Eileen and Jerry Ford who have produced stars such as Courtney Cox, Chanel Iman, Lindsay Lohan and Elle MacPherson. The Philippines, one of the Asian countries that participated, was represented by China Yoo.

Kim-China Yoo, 24, who currently lives in Quezon City, chanced upon Dexter Alazas when she was in Cebu for Bigfoot production and FTV Asia/Cebu. Kim-China Yoo wore a Dexter Alazas gown at the Ford Supermodels of the World 2009 in China and gushed about our favorite Cebu fashion designer. “It was amazingly wonderful - his gown.”

The Linea Sugbuana dress of Dexter Alazas is lasercut gold in gray tulle and chiffon with embellished neckpiece. Because the gown right now is at the agency’s Hall of Fame, I hearken to indulge in our heritage and birthright country for indeed we have contributed so much to the global fashion industry.
