Cardio Barre | A Review of My Pilot Run

The first time I heard about Cardio Barre was about 4 years ago, when one of my girlfriends told me how she started taking classes at the new location in our shopping centre by our high school. I entertained the idea, of trying it out, for a week or so, but soon dropped it as I didn't have enough time back home to be attending regularly. It wasn't until recently, when my sister referred me to a package deal they were offering, that I re-dug it up from my "things to try" list.

I purchased a 5-class package deal which offered classes at lower than half their normal price. This started out as an incentive to: get back into exercising (since I quit any type of routine since August), see what this LA hype was really about, and low-key hope it was some laughable wannabe ballet exercise cult (I was hoping it was "easy").

I read a few reviews on Yelp, prior to class, to see if there was anything I should be aware of, and to be more prepared for what was to come. Cardio Barre gives you two options for class sign ups- through a mobile app or through their website. They recommend that you sign up through one of the two so that your space is guaranteed, and it is required that you get to class 5 minutes before class starts. Apparently, one of the biggest complaints online (via Yelp) was the rule about getting to class early so you can secure your spot, even with reservation. Knowing this I get there 15 minutes early, since I was a first timer. Having signed up through the app sped the process up and I didn't need to fill out as many documents. The process was very relaxed, apparently all I needed to do in the future was to sign my name onto a clipboard and put my stuff into a cubby space, then wait for class to start. Before entering class, you are to grab a pair of weights (ranging from 1-3 lbs). For my first class, it was "heavy weights" day so I grabbed a set of 3 lbs. I know, I laughed on the inside. But little did I know...

The class starts out with literally barre exercises. Yes, like the kind you do in traditional/classic ballet class. Tendu, plié, dégagé, battements, attitudes...the usual repertoire. Then cardio exercise gets mixed into in, so like extending and flexing, and holding positions for an extensive amount of time. The catch is...all of this happens double time, (read: super fast) repeating each set about 4 or 6 times. And you're doing all of this to sped up pop remix songs. After barre exercises, there are middle of the floor exercises with weights and arm workouts. The class then transitions to on the floor exercises where core muscles are worked, abs, crunches, and moving onto legs and butt.

WOW. I was defeated after the 60 minutes. Pooped. I sweat like no other that day. ¾ through the class I looked down and my chest was glistening with sweat (something that never ever happens to me) to the point I looked like one of those oiled up Giorgio Armani Underwear Ad Models. Day-um! Post workout, I went next door to Néktər to grab my green juice (can you say LA basic) and I couldn't even order my drink because I was still out of breath!

Some tips (subjective):
1. Arrive early, to prep, stretch, claim cubby space
2. No need for wraps or socks, barefoot is the best IMO
3. Dress lightly, you will sweat a lot
4. There are ~3-6 classes/day, depending on which day of the week, so check the schedule in advance
5. Go at your own pace, but don't give up entirely
6. You should snack on something SMALL, so you don't pass out, prior to class... but make sure its 1.5 hrs in advance so you don't throw it all up.
7. BRING WATER + FULL SIZED TOWEL
8. [technical tips and if you want a challenge, ballet wise] keep your feet pointed, don't drop your back/butt, "extend", don't drop your elbows, with grace ladies!
9. Routines are basically the same, but every instructor adds their own little kick to the combo

Outfit inspo, what I wore to the two classes
I've only gone for two classes, and throughly enjoyed both of them. I definitely underestimated how intense cardio barre can be and promise to never mutter "probably easy" again. Having danced ballet for a good 13 years (on and off), I know that this class (especially with the cardio and use of light weights) will sculpt you if you attend/practice regularly ~3 times average a week. The one review on Yelp that I agree most with, is someone describing cardio barre as "ballerina bootcamp", haha! Maybe I'm just out of shape, but what are your opinions? Have you ever tried cardio barre? Comment below (I'll answer questions based on my experience too!) Any ladies who would want to join me? ;) I can't wait to sign up for my other 3 classes...

Oscar the Grouch

Now that I'm on this weird semi-student status, commuting back and forth to school, I have time for some other things in life besides research. Not to say that I am totally free from my thesis progression or anything...but it gives me time to retackle some creative projects and get my personal life back.

It does hit me a little hard with the realization that I am going to be leaving this city, my IEEE fam, and my dear friends from research soon. These six years have flown by in a blink of an eye. Just two more months to make the best out of my time here...

I put together this little 90's inspired sheer-top look today, my OOTD. While I was shopping around in Madrid this past summer, I found this coat that did not swallow me whole, so I lugged this bad boy (which took up ¼ of my suitcase) home and have been cuddled up comfily in this for the past two months. But I didn't think about how the green colour would result in me looking like astro turf, Oscar the Grouch, or Macklemore...haha!

I've also been eyeing the Common Projects Achilles Low for a while now, thank god for persistence of saving up for over a year now. I love how clean it looks and the small serial number detailing on the sides of the shoe.

It's a good day for sheer tops and women empowerment. But I was honestly inspired by kDawg's streaks with sheer tops (link1, link2)... not to mention Bella's latest outing with her see-thru top- adding fuel to the Selena/Abel drama. I definitely got a few uncomfortable glares today with the top, I feel that it's not as socially okay to be so "revealing" with my choice of apparel around my hometown, but I don't think its that appalling anyways.

I would also style this sheer top with the bra on top, a cropped tank over the sheer shirt, or a velvet dress over.

Thanksgiving '16 | A Holiday Segment

Hello friends! I have been (so) ill for the past three weeks with a different sickness each week. I hope everyone has kept themselves warm and toasty, away from the terrible colds, flus, and whatever mean things out there. Been busy with research, school work, seeing these cute little 1st and 5th graders every week and teaching them about science, college apps, and....a bit of Overwatch ;)

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for the close friends that have stayed in my life throughout these years- helping me get through life and school, my IEEE family- I have not found any other group of students at Uni who motivate me to shoot for the stars and dreams, and my parents for taking care of me when I'm deathly ill (LOL). I'm also thankful for the past 22 months and the experience and opportunity my research group has given me.

Back Tues School

Had a lovely weekend with my lady friends this weekend (fun fact: we've been friends since middle school- minus J, who I met this weekend!) We went apple picking in Julian and hung around San Diego since one of the ladies now moved down there! See more on my Instagram!

It's only the first week back at school and I'm already so overwhelmed! So many things to do I swear my agenda is overfilled with due dates, collaborations, meetings, homework, projects, and other commitments!! AhhHHH.

Super excited for what this fall quarter has to bring me though and semi scared for all the work that I have to finish by January (!!)

Thought I would share this outfit I wore to uni today with you guys.
I combined two loose items together to get a relaxed look, but used casual office/work attire so that the casualness doesn't get downplayed too much. I know I should have finished the outfit with a belt in the middle to create some solidity, but honestly. . . it worked without a belt surprisingly. And of course loafers to complete the look.

Modern Renaissance | A Product Review

HI FRIENDS! I have passed all my preliminary exams (whee! so grateful for my friends that pushed me to study every night), had quite an eventful summer doing research, as well as catching up with friends, and doing some traveling (SF to NYC hollaaa) since the last time I updated here.

Today I will be talking about Anastasia's summer palette that was released in early June...
MODERN RENAISSANCE

This palette is still pretty hard to attain since it's sold out at most Ultas and Sephora near me, both at home, school, and online surprisingly. I was lucky enough to score this at one of the newly opened Ulta's by school... I'm guessing people just gave up looking?

I actually got this as a birthday gift from a really good friend of mine (THANK YOU♥) so I appreciate this very very much. This is not a palette I would normally approach because of the diverse range of colors- I am a creature of comfort as I usually tend to gravitate towards the brown-neutral tones.

This palette explores the range between red and brown, ending up with variations of earthy, vibrant, and bruised reds, as well as orange, and a brown (CYPRUS UMBER) to create depth. The other tones such as TEMPERA, GOLDEN ORCHE, BUON FRESCO, and WARM TAUPE are used for base or blending. Leaving VERMEER and PRIMAVERA for highlighting or patting onto the center of the lids to create dimension.

I've done a swatch (or two) below. Forgive me in advance for such a bad swatch job, I'm usually not a makeup artist (ha-ha), nor am I really good at makeup in general. But I suppose these lighter and less saturated swatches give you a more realistic feel- compared to the swatches that are about a gazillion layers and super saturated and only realistic if you're putting the shadows on stage-makeup style (no offense, just...in my opinion I suppose)

I think my top 3 favorite shades are BUON FRESCO, VENETIAN RED, and ANTIQUE BRONZE.

I really really like this palette. I feel that Claudia and Anastasia did a really good job with picking the shades and the texture of the shadows. I definitely won't say that the shadows are wet and sticky, but they are so soft and dense that they do remind me almost of... a powdery clay texture. It's on the moist side and not as powdery dry as most common shadows. The shadows are quite pigmented on their own, the swatches I did were about 3 layers/strokes and without primer (wow!). In particular, I think the shades VENETIAN RED, LOVE LETTER, and REALGAR are really unique and I have not seen many dupes like these, but perhaps I'm just not very familiar with the shades of shadows out there.

Anyways, if you have the budge and interest in this palette, I recommend you snatch one when you can! These velvety shadows are not to disappoint :)

Tender Romance | A Product Review

Good morning! Today I will be reviewing Ralph Lauren's Tender Romance Parfume that Influenster has generously provided for me. I believe this parfume was released in February of 2016.

The parfume arrived in the post contained in this rather square-ish box filled with tissue paper.

The bottle is rectangular and glass. It's name branded onto the front of the bottle with a simple silver-trimmed sticker, as well as around the lid of the fragrance. Pretty self explanatory.

On opening the fragrance for wear, the parfume has a very bold sweet scent. A little bit "musky magnolia-meets-cotton candy" mixed with a sensual ginger vanilla. The sweetness to the parfume kind of has me thinking very feminine but youthful.

I learned from a sales associate in a Sephora in Paris that if you crush the perfume between your wrist, it does change the chemistry of the fragrance and alters the scent a little (personal experience proven through trials with Chanel's Chance!!). So I did do a little testing with this parfume, and it didn't seem to change too much on my skin. (Parfumes also vary from person to person).

I actually enjoy this parfume a lot, it reminds me of NOIR Tease from Victoria's Secret (which I previously used) but less mature. NOIR Tease was more sultry whereas Tender Romance is more pink cashmere cuddle. I have been wearing it almost everyday since I got it, so thank you Influenster!! The only con I would say about this fragrance is that the lasting power is not very long. Look into this parfume if you are interested in fragrances that have sweet, warm cashmere vanilla, jasmine, musky notes.

Again, I want to thank Influenster for providing this fragrance so that I could review it on Style Prosciutto! ♥

Posie K | A Product Review

Hope March treated everyone well. Today I will be talking about the popular lip-kits that Kylie Jenner has been selling online recently (or for a few months already).

So Kylie created a line of liquid matte lipsticks that are heavily influenced by her style and taste. Kylie loves wearing matte lippies- particularly in nude, pink-nude, and brown shades. Therefore, this line was created by her for her fans.

The kit is sold online on her website and tend to sell out within 5-10 minutes, depending on the shade. They are extremely popular, and the last restock actually crashed Google Analytics because so many people were trying to buy them.

The line (so far) comes in a few shades:
Dolce K - brownish nude
Posie K - pink w/ purple hint
Kourt K - vampy purple
Koko K - light pink nude
Candy K - pinkish nude (like Koko K but not so 'pale')
True Brown K - brown
Mary Jo K - red (cool tint)
22 - orangey/red

Because I was hesitant at first, I bought only one lip kit on my first purchase with KylieCosmetics. However, I totally regret that now because I spent $8 on shipping for one lip kit when I could've bought more kit's for that shipping worth. But now I know!

So when you order a or many lip kits, the factory will try to put as many kits as they can into one of these KylieCosmetics box. If you ordered just one like me, they'll fill the space up with a plushy-foam piece to protect your box. Otherwise, I see other customers who bought multiple packages get all their orders in one box.

Kylie includes a surprise note, that changes every few months, in your order as well.

I picked Posie K as my first color to try out. It was a safer go-to because I have slightly tanned skin with a warm base. The lighter shades (dolce k, koko k, candy k) seemed to be too light for my complexion. And I felt like the brown shade (true brown k) would either blend in or be too dark for me. Kourt K (the vampy purple shade) was not released yet when I bought this lip kit. I already have many lip products in red-shades, so 22 or Mary Jo K did not grab my attention too much.

So the lip kit comes with two things- a lip liner and a liquid matte lipstick. This kit costs $29 a pack, but with shipping and tax it came out to be around $40 which was an average of $20 an item. Kind of pricey but at the same time fair compared to all the other products out there in the market.

For those of you that aren't familiar, a liquid matte lipstick looks like a lipgloss. However the consistency of this product (specifically KylieCosmetic's) is very runny (as opposed to viscous like lipgloss) and applies fairly easily. Then after a few minutes the product dries up and stays on your lips like a thin-layer of matte lipstick.
Normally, you would line your lips with the lip liner, then fill the rest of your lips in with lipstick. However, the product dries your lips out (hence matte) so I would advise everyone to apply some vaseline or lip balm before application of the lip kit.
Another thing I've noticed is that other users were filling in their entire lips (as oppose to lining the edge of your lips) with the lipliner before applying the liquid lipstick on their lips. This actually helps make the color look fuller and bolder.

I know the swatch and this picture might not be "accurate" enough because it is a still image under good lighting. (I'm also wearing the color here in this Instagram selfie) I'll be releasing a vlog soon, where I'm actually wearing the lippie, maybe that will be of good help.

Overall, I love this product a LOT and I want to get another shade. I would also not mind restocking on Posie K ;) The only bad thing about the lip kits are the slightly expensive shipping rates (though they do ship within 1-3 days after processed orders) and that the matte-characteristic of the lip product dries your lips out like crazy and creates creasing and such if you don't use vaseline/lip-balm beforehand.

KylieCosmetics also released a gloss line last week, so I'm looking to purchasing one of those lip glosses. However, the bummer part is that she never restocks glosses and mattes together so I can't save on the shipping.

Dug My Heart | BØRNS (my newest muse)

Hello dear readers.
It's been forever, and so much has changed since I've last posted.
My sincerest apologies.

Within the unexpected 10 month hiatus.....

I have been doing research full time, learning so many new things, joining new organizations, and taking on projects across the country with my fellow colleagues. Then I applied and got accepted to graduate school, so I am now pursuing an engineering program!
I also broke my annual concerts attendance number; I saw Sufjan Stevens, BØRNS, MUSE perform and have Beach House and Daughter planned.
I went to Scandinavia (confirmed my love for Denmark to be real, authenticated Moomin's existence in Finland, traveled through the fjords of Norway), traveled through southern Japan, explored DC on my own, went to my first technical conference with some of my colleagues, and had my first Vegas trip with friends (lol! I know, finally right?).
I had the pleasure of seeing Maria Kotchekova (and Nat and Skye) dance in the Nutcracker, went to my first Dodgers game, as well as seeing the Lakers play, got my first straight A's in college!!, and finally downloaded Snapchat so I am able to annoy my followers with my excessive brunching and beach outings.
And, I discovered how far real friends are willing to go for you, learned the power of forgiveness, made new friends, and (most importantly) got reacquainted with my best friend. ♥

Two Weeks

Two weeks left of my undergraduate career in studying chemistry.
I can't believe time flew by so fast.

I am very thankful to have met everyone I've met since orientation/day 1 from uni to today, and I am delighted to have grown so close to the 90% of the (class of 2015) graduating chemistry majors + a few others. Lab nights, study sessions till 3am in ChemSci, and the snapchat lectures are worth more to me than the letters that appear on our transcripts.

POSHMARK | Shop My Closet

Today I want to introduce POSHMARK application to my dear readers! It's an application that you can download, for free, onto your phone or tablets and use to sell clothes, accessories, or shoes.

I started using POSHMARK, roughly a year ago, to sell a sweater I bought that I didn't want to ship back for return because of the postage fees and what not. The real REAL reason I gave Poshmark a shot was because I was looking for a halter top from Brandy and an Instagram friend referred the app because there were many limited edition Brandy things circulating on Poshmark that people wanted to sell or trade off for another 'limited' Brandy item. Since you can use the credit you earn from sales to buy things I started with trying to make a sale first before buying anything. Selling that one sweater lead to helping my friend sell off some boots and then before I knew it, I started listing more pieces from my closet. And now I run a Poshmark account.

→ To begin, you will need to take a picture of what you want to sell and upload it onto your page. Make sure you have good lighting so your account is pleasing to look at and other users will want to visit your page to see what you have to offer.
→ The application will ask if you'd like to apply a filter to your 'covershot'. Regardless of if you apply a filter or not, this will be the image that is displayed on your main page.
→ Clicking 'next' will take you to a page called "Listing Details" where you can add more photos to show details of your products or your item from another perspective/angle. You can also add details and description to your listing. Then Poshmark requires you to put a category, size, original price, and listing price to your item. At the very bottom of the page, there is a box that says "your earnings, when sold". This tells you the exact amount $ that you will earn after selling. Poshmark does not let you keep 100% of the amount that you made your sale at. They take 20% off of the listed price as their commission (unless the item is under $15, then they just take a flat fee of $2.95 off), and in return Poshmark makes a pre-paid (express) shipping label, free credit card processing, and buyer protection for buyers.
→ List the product and wait for others' interest!

In the mean time you can browse other user's profiles to see what's for sale or how your prices compare to others! (Competitive sales haha).

So this (right image) is an example of what I see on my news feed when I log in. PM_Editors invite users to events, which is a great way to market your items if they fit the appropriate even categories. On the left, is my profile page. I just wanted to show you guys what a user's profile page look like. Some of you might already know of the application because it's been around for quite some time. But I thought it wouldn't hurt to make a detailed post about the app, how to use it, and why I use it.

Anyone can have a Poshmark account, but running and keeping a Posh account requires (a little) work. There are a few things I suggest/ and or/ would make Poshmark a better community for everyone:

1) Be honest and be loyal. Always be honest about what you're selling and don't stretch the truth so that you can make your sale because lying to make that one sales, makes you a dishonest seller, ruins your reputation and any potential/future sales. Not to mention the Posh community is very social, so your reputation does matter if you want to stay in the application.
2) Don't low-ball or overprice your items. Unless you made the item yourself and are looking for a platform to sell your creation, no one wants to buy the top that was in shops last year for twice the price...especially since it's been worn already.
3) Keep your account active as much as possible. Potential customers/buyers might have questions and are interested in your items. If you're never online to answer any questions or offers they might have, you might miss your chance of getting a sale!
4) Be descriptive about your item when listing. Is it a size medium but actually runs larger than expected? Has a button fallen off but you'll include the spare to let the buyer sew it on themselves? Does the zipper work? Is it actually pinker than it appears in the picture? Be descriptive so that buyers know exactly what they're buying. This lessens the chance of any potential disputes or complaints.
5) Accept the fact that Poshmark is a platform that allows users to buy clothes that are usually already worn or used. This way there are no surprises or false expectations.
6) Try to ship items within 1-3 days. If it isn't possible for you to ship items in a timely manner, try to communicate with the buyer and let them know of the situation!
7) Refrain from trading or paying through another application like PayPal. It's tempting because you don't have to lose the 20% commission that Poshmark usually keeps, but most of the time a lot of 'traders' or people you try to deal with, through Paypal, end up being a scam and you lose more than 20%.

Say you make a sale. Congrats! Your first sale. This is what usually happens...

1) Poshmark will email you notifying you your sale. In that email, a shipping label will be included. Just print it out and take your package to the post office.
2) After you ship it, within a few hours to a day Poshmark will send you another email to confirm the shipping.
3) As soon as your buyer receives their package, Posh will send you an email telling you that your sale went through and you get your earning.

So the main reason why I wanted to talk about Poshmark on here is because I use Poshmark as a way to give back to the community and towards organizations and causes I care about. Of course you can just donate to the Salvation Army instead of trying to make money off of used clothing. But I see Poshmark as a way to raise money so I can donate and support different charities.

The foundation I chose and have been supporting is- Orangewood Children Foundation :) I hope that my donation go towards helping someone with their education funds or enriching and better a child's life. (As cliche as this sounds...) Children today are our future, if we help give an opportunity for a child at better/higher education involvement then it's possible that we make the future a better place for everyone! Educating and helping everyone out helps everyone out!!

I hope, after reading this post, everyone has a better idea at how Poshmark works and other purposes Poshmark can be used for. Reduce and recycle clothes by buying secondhand...then donate ALL of your profits to a cause you care about ♥

Last weekend I got together with my friend, Kaori, a stylist, and did a shoot together.

Kaori suggested that we visit the Noguchi Gardens in Costa Mesa.
The Gardens is an offsite exhibit that is part of The Isamu Noguchi Museum based in New York.

Kaori picked an "all black" theme, and I decided to throw some white in there for contrast.
We also decided to play with layers.

With that being said, I wanted to show you guys this cape I bought over winter break! What do you think? I really like the cape-craze that was trending this past winter season (ie. Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung's monogrammed Burberry). There was a wide variety ranging from colors, textures, and patterns. My favorite one is a tie between the monogrammed Burberry one and an all-black cashmere one.

Being in here is always relaxing. the Lost Bean isn't too cramped like some coffee shops- cosy enough to be comfortable. It's very quiet too (for the most part).

Senior year, for me, has been super busy so far, but I'm trying to live up my last days at school enjoying my peers and all our resources. (including living in the chemistry building; being in there 24/7....jk, kind of not really)

#CosmopolitanChic | Style Prosciutto Takes on Las Vegas

Today Vegas.com has challenged Style Prosciutto to share my unique take of a day at The Cosmopolitan. Therefore, I will share with everyone how I would plan my day out and the outfits to go with.....let's begin!

Whether you fly into Las Vegas or if you are from Southern California, like moi and would need to make the 4+ hour drive, you would need a comfy outfit no matter what. I don't know about you, but I would not want to be caught dead in sweats and fuzzy boots during my In & Out rest stops in Barstow....because believe me, I've ran into many friends there! For a stylish YET comfortable journey, I pick the look below.
Long flow tunic and boy-friend jeans for room to move around in, and sunnies and a floppy hat to block out that unpredictable Southern California sun. Or if you're traveling by plane, then I guess sunnies to hide yourself when you knock out on the plane ride here, and a hat for after-landing to cover up any messy hair that the plane ride caused. And for a place to toss all my stuff...money, passport, makeup, etc- I pick a bucket bag to compliment my relaxed look, and JC cut-out boots to clunk around for an edgy vibe.
And as for makeup, it's the awkward transition between fall and winter so I'm just keeping it neutral with a vampy-lip, nude nails, and perhaps a winged liner.

#CosmopolitanChic Arrival by Style Prosciutto

Upon arriving (hopefully somewhat after lunchtime) in the glamourous lobby, I'd feel pressured to get up to my room ASAP to do an outfit change because we are in a whole 'nother world now people. In the west-wing, the lobby has rows of beautiful posts that changes images and scenery from time to time making guests to feel modern, sexy, and groovy.

Well, we just got to Vegas right? What's the rush? Time to cool down with a dip at the pool. Don't forget to order hors d'œuvre in case you aren't full from lunch yet!

I put together two swim looks below, everything is pretty self explanatory. It's two looks I'd wear by the pool. AND if you ask me, I would probably pick the look on the right and lounge at the bamboo pool. B)

#CosmopolitanChic Taking A Dip by Style Prosciutto

After laying out by the pool and under the cabana for a while, I'm going to change the scenery a bit and go inside, change and take my time to get over to Eastside Tower and grab some drinks and chit-chat with my girlfriends (or boy-friends) at The Chandelier. The Chandelier is a three-story bar with the top being a lounging area where you can enjoy the view of the purple pink glass, or people watch. The middle of it is a bar, while the bottom tier goes into the casino area. No matter which level you are on, just being in The Chandelier is a glamorous feeling.

I am going with a casual outfit but still workable with drinks and gossips ;D A cropped satin black peplum top for the semi-formal-ness, but high waisted white pants to play it down. An arrow necklace to adorn your otherwise-naked neckline, beautiful YSL clutch, and my all time favorite Aquazzura shoes...because who can pass those babies up. Around my wrists and on my ears- I would dress them up with some gold jewelry, and for makeup I'm going bold with Chanel's classic Rouge Allure lipstick in Passion, and probably a smokey eye look with some shimmer tones in the eyelid crease. And JUST IN CASE! it gets cold, or you decide to go out to take a look at the sun setting upon the strip I threw in a brown poncho. Remember..classy- not trashy!

#CosmopolitanChic Drinks with the Girls by Style Prosciutto

After a little bit of gossip and catching up, I would go shopping with my friends and try on different outfits, splurge, and relax. Then comes dinner time! What's Vegas without going to one of those outrageous buffets? My pick? Wicked Spoon.

Honestly, how can you go wrong with so many choices available to you? You can make every friend or family member happy here :)
So after two hours of chow, we have to burn those calories off...right? Time to hit the nightclub! Or if you much rather prefer a quiet night in with your s/o, the Ice Rink :)

If you much rather dance your night away, I created two looks on the more classy-side for getting down with your girls (or that cute guy you met earlier ;)) on the left side. And on the right, is a cute outfit to skate away your worries in.

Hopefully by the end of the night, nobody is too wasted, lost, or hurt from dancing, skating, laughing and can safely make their way back to their room and get a good night's rest.

Free People Voile and Lace Trapeze Slip

I've been eyeing this Free People slip for such a long time already.
When I finally got it in May....I was so busy I didn't even have time to share it with my dear readers until now!

I have a few of FP's slip dresses. Besides enjoying the way they fall gently and look on your body, they're also very comfortable and mobile. Great for dressing up or down. Obviously I didn't style it too much here but if I wanted to, I could with knee socks, kimonos, scarves, sweaters, boots, necklaces/rings, and floppy hats. I think these Trapeze slips are super versatile.

Today I styled the slip with a navy blue lace bralette and some denim shorts underneath.

Arctic Monkeys

So as some of you might know... I went to see the Arctic Monkeys yesterday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles! I am so excited to have had that opportunity because the Arctic Monkeys are one of my all-time favorite bands!

Because both Blake and I were in a rush from where we were to the concert, I didn't have much time to put together an appropriate outfit even though I've been thinking for days. I ended up wearing a Wildfox baby tank with a black loose cardigan, my cherry 1460 Doc Martens, slightly winged eyeliner, matte red lipstick, with matte black nails. And I carried my envelope clutch.
Originally I intended on wearing a leather jacket but because it was so hot, I just stuck with the cardigan.

In terms of the fashion scene there, most everyone wore dark/black clothing. Think tumblr-esque grunge mixed with (British) punk rock. So I saw a lot of plaid, denim vests, leather jackets, leather pants, high-waisted denim shorts, Topshop high-waisted skinnies, halter tops, band shirts, circle-brimmed hats, circle bowlers hats, circle sunglasses (sunnies indoor heh i know), and (TONS of) AM shirts. Overall think: "Sky Ferreira x Sleigh Bells x (not as intense version of) Taylor Momsen" fashion.
Shoe-wise I saw a lot of black boots whether it be JC's coltranes (or lookalikes), creepers, a little bit of chelsea boots, and a LOT OF DOC MARTENS!! (different styles not just the 1460s) which made me super happy because I loveeee DM's ♥ :)
One comment on hair- I saw a good amount of space buns, but I wouldn't say that a lot of girls rocked space buns.
Makeup wise- (as Blake agreed on...basically) 45% dark red/purple lipstick, 45% deep red lipstick, and 10% nude lips (the rest of the people who didn't wear any lipcolour). Not a lot of girls wore eyeshadow, but most girls wore either kohl-lined eyeliner or winged liquid liner.

Blake and I had a lovely time at the AM concert, and I definitely had some fan girl moments shrilling and screaming whenever my favorite songs played...and my knees were so sore after dancing to songs like "Fluorescent Adolescent" or stomping to "R U Mine?".

A "Basic" Chino | A Segment On Men's Fashion

Hello everyone. I hope you are enjoying the summer. It's time for another post about men's clothing. This time I will be doing a review on a pair of chinos I got a couple of months ago. They are the "Olive Chino" from Wolf vs Goat. Before I get into the chinos, I would like to say a few words about the brand itself, because I find it very unique and interesting. The brand is run almost entirely by a man named Mauro who has been in the fashion business for a number of years. He started Wolf vs Goat about 5 years ago as a way to get high-quality, USA made clothes to men at a great price. What is so special about this brand is the sense of community that Mauro fosters. He centers his brand around clothing that his customers want to buy and works to get everyone exactly what they want, but at the same time innovating in terms of fabrics and design. He takes customer service very seriously.

Enough about the brand. Let's get to these pants.

As you can see, the chinos are medium olive in color. They have a definite earthy tone to them, but they aren't so dark that they are limited to wearing in the fall and winter. They are overdyed, meaning that they are made of olive thread that is then dyed again once the fabric is woven. This creates a beautiful depth of color. And as the pants age, their fading is more subtle than is typical. Various shades of olive are created instead of wearing down to white thread. Having worn these on average three times a week over the past two months (you can tell I love them), I can say that these pants are only getting more beautiful with age.

There is quite a bit of green in these chinos, which I think makes them more suitable for 4-season wear. However, these really will work best in fall and winter and I can't wait to start putting these to use then. The fabric is mid-weight sanded canvas, all cotton. The canvas makes for a sturdy pant; these won't be wearing down anytime soon. The sanding of the canvas means these chinos won't be quite as rough on the exterior or as stiff as typical canvas. Because these are a casual pant, I never iron them. As you can see, they do get slightly wrinkly but nothing that would make me think anyone would have to iron them. I think the slight wrinkles add to the casual nature of the pants and make it easier to see the color variations. Buttons (save for the hidden front button) appear to be real horn in dark brown, meaning you will love buttoning these up every time.

The chinos are touted as a "slim straight" pant. I find the "slim" portion to be very accurate, as these fit perfectly between too tight and too loose. I could have sized down for a slightly slimmer pant and still be comfortable, but I wanted to try a more relaxed fit. These pants, however, are certainly not "straight" fit. There is quite a bit of taper to them. Nothing extreme but it is certainly there.
They come in a 33" inseam only, which work perfectly for me since I am kind of tall (about 6'1"). I can leave them uncuffed to get some stacking with boots or cuff them once or twice to get some breeze on my ankles, like in these shots. If you are shorter, a hem is a simple $5-10 fix. If, however, you are taller than 6'3", these may be too short for you. The good news is I haven't noticed any shrinking in length (or anywhere else for that matter) even after several washes and partial, gentle dryings in a machine.

Some more final thoughts about these pants as I have gotten to know them better over the past several weeks. They almost immediately became my favorite pair by far. They have broken in to be amazingly comfortable and soft. And since I sit at a desk for hours at a time, this is very important. I have never once had these pants irritate me at all. The rise is high enough to provide room where it is needed, and the legs are never constrictive.
The color is very versatile yet still interesting. Olive is a normal enough color that you can wear these quite often without drawing too much attention to yourself, but the subtle variations in color keep the pants interesting. So while they may seem basic, these chinos are anything but that.
The one change that I would make to these pants is to make the back pockets about 0.5" deeper. My wallet is by no means large, but it almost reaches to the top of the pocket. Other than that, I have no complaints.

L'Oreal Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion | A Product Review

Summer is just around the corner (in 8 days to be exact),
so I thought I would do a post on a product I discovered recently.

This is (as you can see) the L'Oreal Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion with SPF 50+ and water resistance.
I was not looking for a tinted facial sunscreen, but I thought I would give this a try because it looked interesting. They do have a non-tinted option, so feel free to pick that one if you are hesitant about getting the residue on white tops. Another thing that drew me towards it, was the description claiming it to be a"...virtually weightless lotion...".

The only tinted sunscreen I've tried before was Clinique's City Block Sheer in SPF 40. Unfortunately, I hated the formula. It greasy and made me break out after my "8 hour" time frame outside. The formula also looked was heavily tinted that it would look too dark/light if you were not the same shade. Ever since then I've strayed from tinted facial sunscreens.

I picked this sunscreen to try because I was looking for something that was light, and goes on "weightless"(....and it was!)

The bottle is very small, so you can easily bring it with you in your bag or purse.

The box writes and claims 80 minutes of water resistance, but I have not yet gone swimming with this yet.
The box instructs you to "shake to activate" before using, but I find that whenever I shake the bottle up and down, air pressure builds up (or the air goes under the product) thus making the product gush out when I unscrew the lid. I think it helps to gently sway the product side to side instead of up and down.

Voila! It's as if you were not wearing anything.
The formula blends into my skin tone very well, and I would assume it blends into most others' suitably as well because if I were to (maybe it is not very apparent in the picture but..) pour the formula on my skin, the shade does not match me 100%.
The sunscreen is weightless, matte, and does absorb quickly. It is not greasy like most other facial sunscreen, and if I could tell you about this sunscreen in one sentence, it would be- rubbing liquid that turns into "powder". I put powder in quotes because it isn't powdery but it ends up feeling like if you dusted a light layer of powder foundation onto your skin.

It cooperates even if you are sweaty. I think that no matter what, a sweaty face will always be a little "non-matte", but this sunscreen won't leave you looking shiny after a long day outside.

I really do recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a face sunscreen. The only con for the product that I can think of is either the gushing after shaking it, or the fact that it isn't anything sweet/fancy smelling...just normal sunscreen scent. But I don't think any of those cons are that big of a deal.
I got this at my local Target for ~$11. I'm sure you can find it in any convenience store that sells extensive beauty products (as in probably not a super market), or Ulta, or Walmart...etc etc.

Last Day of May

Finished my music paper earlier than usual!! So I went to the beach...

Definitely have not gone to the beach in a while, I think the last time was in March though I guess it's still lucky because I live in Southern California. The water was surprisingly comforting- not freezing as I thought it would have been.
