I'm not surprise at all; most designers in the world still have not changed their minds on making their clothes targeting slim young girls: First of all, young girls' bodies are thin and mostly come in one flat shape; easy to fit and therefore will create a good reputation for them; secondly, it costs less fabric and will bring more profits for those designers and lastly, the young thin models will create good images in their designed clothes.

"This is so typical of 99.9 per cent of designers: they only want their clothes worn by the very young and the very thin," said Liz Jones from the Daily Mail

In my opinion, women in our society, who come in different shapes and sizes, all deserve to make themselves look beautiful and they would, by wearing clothes which suit them. For my swimwear line, I've been very happy to use real women models and I was lucky to find them.
(One of my new season swimwear model
Two piece swimwear for plus size such as tankinis and skirtinis are still popular because of their mix and match.

For example knowing your body shape and choosing clothes which minimise your body flaws and accentuate your best asset; in Summer, wearing a nice swimsuit that designed to suit your style would bring back your confidence.
Nothing proves that age is just a number. With my thought that I would be able to find some ideas for my swimwear design next year season but I was quite disappointed with most of the collections which I saw because they are designed for young girls who have flat chests and tiny bums and they're thin like sticks . Surely the new season (Spring/Summer) clothes, including beach wear and resort wear, look beautiful on them but will they look good on plus size women who have curves? I doubt that! The Fashion Industry in Australia still dominates mainly slim (or very slim) people and the reality is that there are more full figured women than thin women in the society.

above are some new resort and swimwear pictures that I took from the shows.

Westfield's New "Real Women" Model Jessica Gomes

At last Westfield company realises that stick thin models do not represent the majority of Australian women whose average size are 14+. They appoint Jessica Gomes as a model for their curvy women fashion range.

http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/fashion/features/articles/-/9190383/jessica-gomes-flaunts-her-fab-figure/

I agree with Jessica's advice when she answers the question "What'd be your advice to women who aren't comfortable with their bodies?" that women should learn to love what they got but beside that, I think they should learn to enhance their appearance by watching out for the fashion trends for women and choose styles/designs which suit them; they would be amused to see how their look would change by wearing clothes which are designed for them. My swimwear line has been designed for real women like Jessica Gome and not for stick thin teeny-weeny girls.

Understanding of Swimwear Fabrics and the Lasting of Your Swimwear.

The life of your swimwear really depends on its fabric and the environment of your wearing. There is a variety of fabrics used to make swimsuits but the two popular swimwear fabrics on the market are polyester and nylon/spandex (Lycra). Polyester swimwear fabric: This fabric is less stretched and has a tighter fit that some people find less comfort. If you choose this swimsuit fabric type, you should go for one to two size larger than your usual size in order to get more comfortable fit. If you swim frequently in a swimming pool where chemical or chlorine level is high, the 100% polyester fabric swimsuits would be ideal because the fabric would last for at least one year or two depending on frequency of use and how you care for your swimsuit. Nylon: is the most common fabric for swimwear as it is more strectchy than polyester especially if it is mixed with spandex (lycra); it fits smoothly on the body. Nylon swimwear gets dry quicker than polyester swimwear as it absorbs very little moisture; the disadvantage is that a nylon swimsuit would not last long when it exposes to sun or chemicals on a regular basis. If you plan to do exercise in the water such as Aqua Aerobic (or Aquarobic/ Water Aerobic) or frequently use heating swimming pools; the chlorine plus the heat temperature will damage the nylon swimwear fabric quicker than if you wear a swimsuit made from polyester. Different kind of swimwear fabrics (colour fast, nylon/lycra or polyester) were made for different purposes so you should choose the fabric which suits your purpose. Designer brands or unknown branded swimsuits would have the same lasting if you wear them in the right place and care for them. Understanding the swimwear fabric types will help to keep your favourite swimsuit last longer and in its prestige condition.

Double Standards for Plus Sized Fashion

I have just read an article on http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/fashion/fashion-plus-sized-double-standards/story-e6frfn7i-1225875074528
I totally agree with Bruno Schiavi, an Australian fashion veteran, that more designers come out saying they support the plus size range but they don't do as they said and their collections have not included large size. He also said that the designers don't produce plus size fashion because more costs are involved in manufacturing (more fabric, more freight.s..) and that will give them less margins!
I specialise in swimwear design, I understand there is a big difference between costs of making a pair of bikinis size 8 and a set of tankinis or skirtinis in size 24! But I still love designing swimwear for plus size women because in my opinion, women regardless what shapes or sizes they're in; they deserve to look their best. I know there are a lot of plus size women who have fashion consciousness, so even though I earn less margins on my plus size fashion range, I wouldn't mind. The main thing is that my happy customers will make me feel great and that's all I care.

Kim Kardashian and Her Voluptuous Body

Yesterday on http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/who/galleries/g/-/8169827/3/kim-kardashian-socialite-reality-star-and-loving-sister/ I found some pictures of the Kardashian sisters but mainly about the reality rising star Kim Kardashian. She is really a woman with beautiful curves; born in a weathy family in Beverly Hills but Kim has worked hard to earn a position in the celebrity world.
She is a very sexy diva, who would not like to look at her? Compare to skin & bones stars Paris Hilton or Victoria Beckham, Kim has much more beautiful shape. When Kim was a teenager, she often prayed for her curves no more developed; but actually, the curves are her best assets now.
As talking about curves, you should celebrate your curves which have come naturally and be proud of them. Swimsuit design with shirring is an excellent choice for real women as it will make them look fashionable whilst giving them comfort and perfectly hiding bulges. The swimsuits can have ruching underarms or under bust as well as on both sides of the suit.

The key swimwear design for the season is beach culture. The prints and colour trends are from tropical floral landscapes to exotic destinations. The colour pallette works around blues, turquoise, crimson, pink, lime and black. Metallic trim around the prints is also a key trend. Popular cuts include twisted bandeau, ruched ribbons or key holes.

Style trends:

One Piece Swimwear:
Many plus size women especially whose body is hour glass shape prefer this style as it show off their curves. Look for plus size swimsuits with adequate support, built-in bra and if you have a nice bust, you should choose swimwear with plunging neckline and key holes which will accentuate your curve.

Swimdresses:
It is more modest than other types of swimwear; women in plus sizes will look stylish and flattering in swimdresses; they provide extra coverage over tummy, hip and thigh areas. These areas are problems for many large size women and the one piece swimsuit style is excellent for covering them. Shirring swimdress is definitely a popular trend for plus sizes.

Two Piece swimsuits:
Tankinis:
Some women do not like one piece swimsuits as they are sometime difficult to put on or take off. Tankinis are two-piece separate swimwear usually includes a camisole top and a pair of swim pants. The trend for this season is deep V neck or twisted bandeau. As a plus size, you should choose the swim top which is long enough to cover your tummy and the swim pants with medium leg cut.

Skirtinis:
They are two-piece swimwear, like tankinis, but instead of having regular swimming pants for bottom; skirtinis have short length skirts with attached panties. Full figured women who like looking young and flattering would love skirtinis. Patrick Mohr sent models down the runway with fake whiskers and bald heads for his spring/summer 2011 show at Berlin Fashion Week.

His models look very weird and stick thin like skeletons. They look so sick. Would you have to be like his models to wear his designs??? I can not find any art or beauty in those styles. Unique design does not mean to be weird or ugly. Would you agree with me?

My philosophy in fashion design is simply stylish, feminine, trendy and realistic that can apply to any ordinary woman. I make swimwear in real size for real women who are the majority in our society.

My New Website Curvysea.com

It's the time to give Curvysea online boutique a new face! I decided to hire a professional web developer to replace the old website to a new one. The new website still has a main purpose to target and to serve plus size women in the fashion/clothing market. It looks more beautiful, wider with larger product images and easier navigation.
The shopping cart, however, is required more steps during the check out to help customers retrieve their details later once they go through the whole check out system. I am not too keen on this system because it creates more work for customers but I hope they will understand and get used to it.
So far the new website is up and running, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Beautiful Women With Curves!

It is incredible how God creates people, like our women we come in completely different shapes and sizes: tall, short, thin, large. It is society, media and the fashion industry which set criteria on what so call “beautiful “or “ugly” women. I hope plus-sized women to break loose of society’s unrealistic thoughts and views of who they are.

I want them to know that they are beautifully made by God. They should love and believe in themselves. They should know that they are capable to achieve whatever they want to achieve, just like anyone else. Sizes have nothing to do with it. An important factor is that plus size women should always maintain a positive appearance and there are plenty of tips and tricks on how to flatter their look. Beauty comes in all sizes, so ladies you should enjoy being who you are. Do not try to look like someone you are not; also do not compare yourself to everyone else. As long as you are yourself people will love you for that. Do not be disappointed that you don’t look like some pretty celebrities in fashion magazines (most of their pictures are fixed by photoshops anyway). You are unique and beautiful, so be proud of who you are!

Find Plus Size Swimsuit or Lingerie That Fits and Flatters

According to a recent study, 75% of customers buying clothes on the internet are women. As we all know women are not all built the same, neither should our clothes all be cut the same. For full figured women, we have hourglass figure; rectangle shape; triangle shape; diverted triangle shape…. Finding a plus size swimwear or plus size lingerie especially over internet is a big task.

It is the best if you know your body measurements and body shape. Always look at the swimsuit size chart before you order, every manufacturer or designer has their own sizing measurements.

Size charts can also vary in different countries. They even have different measurement systems. For instance, if you are in countries that use metric system and you want to buy swimsuits online from a country using imperial system, you will have to convert their sizing dimension which is in Inch into Centimetre: say, if the bust is 40’ (inches): 40 x 2.54 = 101.6, it will be 101.6cm; vice versa from countries using metric system if the bust is 101.6 cm and you convert into inches: 101.6 : 2.54 = 40 Inches.

For plus size swimsuits/ swimwear, sizing is not the same among countries.
Size 14 in Australia is generally equal to size 12 (USA), size 14-16 (UK) and size 42 (Europe); so do not rely on the sizing number itself. With plus size lingerie, the sizing is more simple and universal in size 1X to 4 or 5X but there are still different measurements between lingerie brands.

You can not use your dress size for plus size swimsuit size. If your dress size is 14 then your swimsuit size may vary from 16 or 18 (depends on manufacturers). A good rule of thumb is to know your body measurements and compare them to the swimsuit’s size chart on the website that you plan to buy.

Before ordering a plus size swimsuit or plus size lingerie, you should spare some time to read through the product’s description. Usually, online sellers indicate body shape (long, medium or short torso) suitability for the style/design in their descriptions.

Due to health regulation, most of online shops will not accept lingerie return, but with plus size swimwear, make sure you know a website’s return/ refund policy before placing an order.

Last but not least, get recommendation from your friends, family or colleagues who are experienced in purchasing plus size swimwear/ plus size lingerie online.
Find real testimonials from previous customers who were happy enough to post their comments on a website.

Lingerie Caring Tips

Extra care needs to be taken when putting your delicate lingerie on, do it gently and to avoid damage, remove all jewellery with sharp objets when dressing.

Most of lingerie is made from delicate fabric and some of women’s sleepwear include lace or mesh, should be treated with care. The tips below will help you keep your sexy babydoll lingerie last longer.

You should read care instruction label on the lingerie carefully before first time wash; generally, the best way is to wash it by hand in cold water with gentle liquid soap (hand washing liquid) or baby shampoo; do not twist or wring the lingerie as it may cause creases/ wrinkles and extra gentle care needed when washing lace lingerie. Avoid wearing rings with sharp objects that can snag or pull the threats out when you rub the sleepwear. Hang it drip dry in shade (the lingerie’s colour will last longer that way)

If the instruction advice is your lingerie should be dry clean only, you should follow it strictly, otherwise the fabric may be shrank or stretched out and the lingerie will be ruined.

To machine washable lingerie (as recommended on the label), you should put your lingerie in a mesh bag (you can find the bag from a two-dollars shop); wash them together with other delicate clothes and set your washing machine on delicate cycle in cold water.

Never put your lingerie in the clothes dryer because the heat may degrade the fabric.

Do not tumble dry: Tumble drying causes the elastane to degrade and could damage the delicate lace and detailing of your lingerie.

Do not bleach because it will damage the delicate fabrics and will affect the colours

Do not iron your lingerie UNLESS the instruction says otherwise; for the lingerie that you can iron, set the iron at low level because most of lingerie is made from nylon and will get damage easily in hot iron.

With special care for your favourite lingerie, you can keep it in pristine condition for as long as you want it.
Designs for swimwear tend to come back to the late 70's and early 80's, styles from one-pieces, underwire one or two pieces to studding, metal rings, ruffles. Swimwear trends seem to leave out cutouts, revealing, sexy style, instead, they go back to more glamorous classic styling. Vintage swimwear designs are back with bright colours ruffles, feminine florals and unique one pieces, comfortable but sexy in fashionable cuts, become more popular than they have been in the past. Colours such as reds, greens and blues are main part of the swimwear season.
For lingerie, black lingerie including chemise or babydolls will always be trendy. Red is a perfect colour for lingerie, look for sexy lingerie sets in this color then you'll be right in style! Cobalt colour is a favourite and this coloured lingerie will look great on women in summer time. Lacy lingerie (whole or just lace on the bust) will be fashionable and seductive.

What Swimwear Styles are Suitable for Plus Size Women?

It is a challenge for a plus size woman to find a swimsuit which fits her as well as flattering her appearance. So if it is your challenge, which style or design would give you a flattering solution?

- If you have a short neck or double chin: Avoid wearing swimwear styles with high neck cuts, it will make your neck look even shorter or the chin will look more obvious, instead, a swimsuit with a deep V neck cut or deep U neck cut will drive the eye away from the neck.

- If you have large arms: A swimwear with bright or bold prints on the bust will attract the attention and shift it away from the arms. You can also camouflage them by putting on a cotton or sheer polyester tunic / kaftan with deep colour when you get out of water.

- If your hips and thighs are large: A swimdress with colourful prints on the bust and plain dark/deep colours on the rest of the swimwear will do the tricks and will take the eye attention to the bust.

It has a similar effect for 2 piece skirtinis swimwear. The skirtini top with bold and beautiful all over print will distract the eye and the deep/dark plain coloured skirt will camouflage the hips and thighs.

- Tummy sticking out: Most plus size women face this problem. Swimdress with empire waist, a high-waisted dress, gathered just under bust with a long, loose skirt would be the best solution especially if there is colourful, bright print on the bust and the rest of the dress is in plain dark color.

A big "no-no" swimwear styles/designs for large size women are:

-Bikinis: They will show all of your bulging flesh and will attract staring.

-Monokinis (An one piece swimsuit with large cut-outs at the sides, front and back, with top and bottom connected only by a thin strap). These styles are suitable for young females with a flat stomach. The style has absolutely no support and no flaw camouflage for full figures.

-Swimwear with very high leg cuts, transparent swimwear (see-through when it is wet) or horizontal striped swimsuit.

Swimsuit style is a matter of personal choice but make sure you choose a swimsuit that you feel great wearing and you will enjoy this summer in style.

A new collection of one piece or two piece swimsuit, women's plus size swimwear, tankinis, skirtinis, swimdresses and plus size lingerie are available at http://www.curvysea.com/

How To Shop Online Safely For Plus Size Swimwear

Ten years ago, when choosing a swimsuit or lingerie in plus size range was quite a difficult task and there were not many choices, especially online. Now, a plus size woman can "google" or "Yahoo" (typing in the search engines' browser) key phrases such as "plus size swimwear; plus size swimsuits; plus size lingerie" and voila, she can find her swimwear /sleepwear from browsing through websites on the net. But how would you find a website that you can trust with your details including your credit card beside having a flattering swimsuit and a great customer service?

There are few tips to shop online for plus size swimwear:

- Look for the business registration number to see if the website is legitimate through their business registration with their countries goverments. For instance, in Australia we have ABN No.(Australian Business Number), usually, the ABN is located at the top or bottom of the Home page.

- Having anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall programs on your computer will also serve as protection from scams (e.g. McAfee anti-virus gives "safe or phishing" indication right next to websites' title on search results).

- Stay away from offers that are doubtful and suspicious. If they sound too good to be true, then they usually are.

- Ask your friends/relatives for any advice or any experience whether they have had great or terrible customer service from the company. Or simply to see if there are real testimonials from
customers' experience stated on the website.

Before purchasing swimwear or lingerie online, make sure you do your home work:

- Look at the company's refund/return for exchange policy. If they make the process difficult by questioning customers before they accept the return , then stay away.

- Know your body shape and size. Leave it for one hour, then rinse well and let the swimwear drip dry in shade.

2- After swimming in pools, where chemicals (chlorine or other pool cleaning liquids) are used, can bleach or damage the suit fabric, rinse the swimsuit in clear water and store it in a plastic bag if you don't want to wash it straight away.

3- Avoid wearing your new swimsuit in spa or in sauna as the intense heat will cause the elastic to start melting and the fabric to deteriorate quickly. An old swimsuit is recommended for wearing at those places.

4-Hand-wash the swimwear in mild hand wash liquids and NEVER twist or wring it; let it drip dry in shade or lay it flat on a flat on a clean and smooth surface. Do not iron your bathers.

5- Do not bleach

6- At the beach, be careful when you put on sunscreen, suntan, body lotion or oils as they can also discolour or damage the fabric. Excessive amounts of sun tan lotions and oils rubbed into skin, which contacts with the swimwear, can cause the elastic and elastomeric yarn to deteriorate, making it rot and melt.

7- Avoid sitting on rough surfaces such as on rocks or rough concrete because they can snag
swimwear fabric.

Myer's Plus Size Cat Walk

"Plus size models will share the catwalk with glamour girl Jennifer Hawkins when Myer launches its new fashion ranges from this month"

That's great news! I always support models with real curves on catwalk. I have been at many fashion shows and all I have seen were tall, thin models who showed off most of their ribs instead of their boobs or bums. An ideal model's body size should be like Marilyn Monroe's body (Size 14) and should represent the majority of women's bodies in our society.

Curvysea will launch its new season swimwear and lingerie collection for Summer 2009/2010 soon and its theme will be "Beautiful Plus Size". The new ranges will include unique designed one piece swimsuits, two piece tankinis, skirtinis, swimdresses styles beside sexy plus size lingerie, sleepwear for plus size ladies.

Source:

http://www.news.com.au/

http://www.curvysea.com/

Retail Cuts Plus Sizing

Recently, I read an article on a news paper about many large clothing companies in the US such as Ellen Tracy, have eliminated plus size range (including swimwear, beach wear), while giant retails like Ann Taylor, Old Navy, Gap have either reduced or dropped the lines altogether, citing 'low demand'

Low demand! How in the world is that even possible? The average woman nowadays is size 14 or more, being what is considered plus size. There seems to be a perception by clothing designers/manufacturers that plus size women don't work, have no money and therefore can not afford their stylish clothes! Well, they're wrong, I have known many women in size 14 +; these ladies have good jobs and have shown great knowledge of styling through their hair, make up and clothing.
Plus size clothing costs around 10% more to produce than smaller size clothing, since it requires special cutting patterns, different fit models, more fabric and more freight costs if it's imported. This may be one of the factors together with the recession and economic downturn that cause many large well-known brands for plus size to cut their lines.
Or there may be an issue citing fashion discrimination against plus size women?
