I read an article today regarding criticism to Donatella Versace, the well known brand designer, for refusing to use real women models for her new fashion line. I'm not surprise at all; most designers in the world still have not changed their minds on making their clothes targeting slim young girls: First of all, young girls' bodies are thin and mostly come in one flat shape; easy to fit and therefore will create a good reputation for them; secondly, it costs less fabric and will bring more profits for those designers and lastly, the young thin models will create good images in their designed clothes.

"This is so typical of 99.9 per cent of designers: they only want their clothes worn by the very young and the very thin," said Liz Jones from the Daily Mail

In my opinion, women in our society, who come in different shapes and sizes, all deserve to make themselves look beautiful and they would, by wearing clothes which suit them. For my swimwear line, I've been very happy to use real women models and I was lucky to find them.

My view over RAFW designers shows

I and my best friend (a lady whose size is 20) attended RAFW 2011 designers collections in Circular Quay Sydney about two week ago. With my thought that I would be able to find some ideas for my swimwear design next year season but I was quite disappointed with most of the collections which I saw because they are designed for young girls who have flat chests and tiny bums and they're thin like sticks . Surely the new season (Spring/Summer) clothes, including beach wear and resort wear, look beautiful on them but will they look good on plus size women who have curves? I doubt that! The Fashion Industry in Australia still dominates mainly slim (or very slim) people and the reality is that there are more full figured women than thin women in the society.

The life of your swimwear really depends on its fabric and the environment of your wearing. There is a variety of fabrics used to make swimsuits but the two popular swimwear fabrics on the market are polyester and nylon/spandex (Lycra). Polyester swimwear fabric: This fabric is less stretched and has a tighter fit that some people find less comfort. If you choose this swimsuit fabric type, you should go for one to two size larger than your usual size in order to get more comfortable fit. If you swim frequently in a swimming pool where chemical or chlorine level is high, the 100% polyester fabric swimsuits would be ideal because the fabric would last for at least one year or two depending on frequency of use and how you care for your swimsuit. Nylon: is the most common fabric for swimwear as it is more strectchy than polyester especially if it is mixed with spandex (lycra); it fits smoothly on the body. Nylon swimwear gets dry quicker than polyester swimwear as it absorbs very little moisture; the disadvantage is that a nylon swimsuit would not last long when it exposes to sun or chemicals on a regular basis. If you plan to do exercise in the water such as Aqua Aerobic (or Aquarobic/ Water Aerobic) or frequently use heating swimming pools; the chlorine plus the heat temperature will damage the nylon swimwear fabric quicker than if you wear a swimsuit made from polyester. Different kind of swimwear fabrics (colour fast, nylon/lycra or polyester) were made for different purposes so you should choose the fabric which suits your purpose. Designer brands or unknown branded swimsuits would have the same lasting if you wear them in the right place and care for them. Understanding the swimwear fabric types will help to keep your favourite swimsuit last longer and in its prestige condition.

I totally agree with Bruno Schiavi, an Australian fashion veteran, that more designers come out saying they support the plus size range but they don't do as they said and their collections have not included large size. He also said that the designers don't produce plus size fashion because more costs are involved in manufacturing (more fabric, more freight.s..) and that will give them less margins!
I specialise in swimwear design, I understand there is a big difference between costs of making a pair of bikinis size 8 and a set of tankinis or skirtinis in size 24! But I still love designing swimwear for plus size women because in my opinion, women regardless what shapes or sizes they're in; they deserve to look their best. I know there are a lot of plus size women who have fashion consciousness, so even though I earn less margins on my plus size fashion range, I wouldn't mind. The main thing is that my happy customers will make me feel great and that's all I care.

Today when surfing the net, I stumble on a German designer 's models pictures. Patrick Mohr sent models down the runway with fake whiskers and bald heads for his spring/summer 2011 show at Berlin Fashion Week.

His models look very weird and stick thin like skeletons. They look so sick. Would you have to be like his models to wear his designs??? I can not find any art or beauty in those styles. Unique design does not mean to be weird or ugly. Would you agree with me?

It's the time to give Curvysea online boutique a new face! I decided to hire a professional web developer to replace the old website to a new one. The new website still has a main purpose to target and to serve plus size women in the fashion/clothing market. It looks more beautiful, wider with larger product images and easier navigation.
The shopping cart, however, is required more steps during the check out to help customers retrieve their details later once they go through the whole check out system. I am not too keen on this system because it creates more work for customers but I hope they will understand and get used to it.

Extra care needs to be taken when putting your delicate lingerie on, do it gently and to avoid damage, remove all jewellery with sharp objets when dressing.

Most of lingerie is made from delicate fabric and some of women’s sleepwear include lace or mesh, should be treated with care. The tips below will help you keep your sexy babydoll lingerie last longer.

You should read care instruction label on the lingerie carefully before first time wash; generally, the best way is to wash it by hand in cold water with gentle liquid soap (hand washing liquid) or baby shampoo; do not twist or wring the lingerie as it may cause creases/ wrinkles and extra gentle care needed when washing lace lingerie. Avoid wearing rings with sharp objects that can snag or pull the threats out when you rub the sleepwear. Hang it drip dry in shade (the lingerie’s colour will last longer that way)

If the instruction advice is your lingerie should be dry clean only, you should follow it strictly, otherwise the fabric may be shrank or stretched out and the lingerie will be ruined.

It is a challenge for a plus size woman to find a swimsuit which fits her as well as flattering her appearance. So if it is your challenge, which style or design would give you a flattering solution?

Summer is comming and it is the time for outdoor activities and for going to the beach.
Choosing a right swimsuit is not easy but keeping the swimsuit last long is just the matter of loving care

Have you ever wondered why your favourite swimsuit which was discoloured or was snagged after a short time? Here are some explanations together with some good tips for keeping your bathing suit in good conditions:

1- Before wearing a new swimsuit, soak it in a mixture of eight table spoons of white vinegar and one litre of water. Leave it for one hour, then rinse well and let the swimwear drip dry in shade.

2- After swimming in pools, where chemicals (chlorine or other pool cleaning liquids) are used, can bleach or damage the suit fabric, rinse the swimsuit in clear water and store it in a plastic bag if you don't want to wash it straight away.

3- Avoid wearing your new swimsuit in spa or in sauna as the intense heat will cause the elastic to start melting and the fabric to deteriorate quickly. An old swimsuit is recommended for wearing at those places.

4-Hand-wash the swimwear in mild hand wash liquids and NEVER twist or wring it; let it drip dry in shade or lay it flat on a flat on a clean and smooth surface. Do not iron your bathers.

5- Do not bleach

6- At the beach, be careful when you put on sunscreen, suntan, body lotion or oils as they can also discolour or damage the fabric. That's great news! I always support models with real curves on catwalk. I have been at many fashion shows and all I have seen were tall, thin models who showed off most of their ribs instead of their boobs or bums. Retail Cuts Plus Sizing

Recently, I read an article on a news paper about many large clothing companies in the US such as Ellen Tracy, have eliminated plus size range (including swimwear, beach wear), while giant retails like Ann Taylor, Old Navy, Gap have either reduced or dropped the lines altogether, citing 'low demand'

Low demand! How in the world is that even possible? The average woman nowadays is size 14 or more, being what is considered plus size. There seems to be a perception by clothing designers/manufacturers that plus size women don't work, have no money and therefore can not afford their stylish clothes! Well, they're wrong, I have known many women in size 14 +; these ladies have good jobs and have shown great knowledge of styling through their hair, make up and clothing.
Plus size clothing costs around 10% more to produce than smaller size clothing, since it requires special cutting patterns, different fit models, more fabric and more freight costs if it's imported. This may be one of the factors together with the recession and economic downturn that cause many large well-known brands for plus size to cut their lines.
Or there may be an issue citing fashion discrimination against plus size women?
