Warum es so lang gedauert hat bis Wien in den Kreis aufgenommen wurde, ist nicht so ganz bekannt. Die MQ FASHION WEEK 2010 (23.-26.9.2010) hat zusammen mit “What about the future”(die wiederum ihren Pop Up Store am 04.09. im Museumsquartier launchen werden) Snowden nach Wien geholt.

Die erste VIENNA WASTED YOUTH Club Night beginnt dann (auch am Fr 24.9.) um 23 Uhr im MORISSON CLUB, Rechte Wienzeile 2a, direkt an der U4 Kettenbrückengasse – mit DJ CRANQUE (SS04/ Italic rec.) einigen sicher noch als Teil des EINMUSIK DJ-Teams bekannt. Ein Gespräch mit der Wiener Performance-Künstlerin Berivan Sayici über Liebe, Sex und wie man richtig kotzt…

Sophia: Hallo Beri, wie geht’s dir heute so?

Beri: Danke, gut. Ich habe gerade eine Installation gemacht. Meine erste überhaupt und hab schon ein Angebot aus Russland sie dort auszustellen, ganz gut also…

Sophia: Wie kommt man bitte zur Performance-Kunst, hast du als Kind schon so was gemacht?

Beri: Ah, nein gar nicht. Eigentlich hab ich übers Zeichnen meinen Weg in die Kunst(schule) gefunden, wollte erst Graphikdesign machen, später dann malen, aber in der Kunstschule bin ich dann mit anderen Arten der Kunst konfrontiert worden. Wir hatten eine ziemlich interessante Professorin für Kunstgeschichte und die war besonders interessiert an Wiener Aktionismus, Body Art,…die hat mich dann stark inspiriert!

Sophia: Warst du auch so ein introvertierter Teenager, der Beachtung durch seine Zeichnungen und Bilder bekommen hat ? Oder hast du nur für dich gemalt?

Beri: Haha genau! Also in erster Linie schon für mich selber, aber sobald die anderen Kinder gemerkt haben, dass ich gut zeichnen kann, hab ich es auch für die anderen oder für die Aufmerksamkeit gemacht. Ich glaub den meisten Künstlern geht’s eigentlich so

S.: Wurdest du von zu Hause gefördert bzw. unterstützt in dieser Entwicklung?

B.: Hmmm… ja eigentlich schon, also meine Mutter hat immer versucht mich zu unterstützen, mein Vater hielt es eher für Blödsinn, aber jetzt wo ich studiere findet er es natürlich ganz toll!

S.: Meinst er findet es noch besser wenn du erstmal viel Geld damit verdienst?

B.: Na dann bin ich sein Lieblingskind! Ganz sicher…

S.: Wenn du eine Installation oder eine Performance planst, wie näherst du dich einem Thema an, hast du da einfach „plopp“ eine Idee im Kopf und dann überlegst du wie sich das umsetzen lässt, bist du sehr intuitiv oder eher planerisch?

B.: Es gibt verschiedene Arten für mich da heranzugehen. Oft beginnt die Idee mit einem Bild im Kopf. Andere Male mit Literatur, die ich lese, oder ich werde von anderen Kunstwerken inspiriert oder mir fliegt “plopp” der Titel zu einer Arbeit zu. Aber ich versuche dann doch irgendwie das ganze theoretisch zu durchleuchten. Oft ist es auch eine Vermischung von Theorie und Erlebnissen.

S.: Du gehst ja auch ganz gerne an die Schmerz-bzw. Grenze des “guten Geschmacks”, hat das für dich eine therapeutische oder befreiende Wirkung? Denkst du manchmal über solche Grenzen nach?

B.: Ja, oft eigentlich, oft denke ich mir noch während ich daran arbeite „was machst du da eigentlich?” haha…aber therapeutisch würde ich das nicht nennen. Vielleicht befreiend, aber das ist nicht der Grund warum ich es tue.

S.: Also es fällt dir überhaupt nicht schwer den eigenen Körper so in den Mittelpunkt zu stellen, bzw. in dem Moment ins Auge des Betrachters?

B.: Nein, gar nicht eigentlich.

S.: Erzähl doch mal etwas über die Installation, die du vorhin erwähnt hattest.

B.: Sie heisst looking for love / waiting for love. Hier ein Foto:

S.: Ist das ein gloryhole ( Def.= Glory Hole, auch „gloryhole“ auf englisch; übersetzt: „Ruhmesloch“ oder „Ehrenloch“− umgangssprachlich auch Klappenloch oder Schwanzloch − ist ein Loch in einer Wand zum Zwecke meist anonymer Sexualkontakte.) ?

B.: Genau, schön dass du es erkennst…

S.: Oder nur zum durch kucken…

B.: Ganz wie du willst.

S.: Ist die Doppeldeutigkeit beabsichtigt oder die Intention schon in erster Linie auf eine unromantische sexualisierte Definition von “love” gelegt?

B.: Nein, die Doppeldeutigkeit ist schon beabsichtigt, ich finde die Arbeit eigentlich romantisch, bzw. war sie als romantisch gedacht, aber eben eine andere Art der Romantik.

S.: Die musst du mir wohl etwas genauer erläutern…

B.: Also der Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit war eigentlich das Buch von John Waters „Art – a Sex Book“. Dort hab ich überhaupt zum ersten Mal den Begriff des Glory Hole wahrgenommen, fand das irgendwie schön und anfangs wollte ich es eigentlich in einen Titel einbauen und unter anderem habe ich dann in dem Buch auch Werke von Jeff Burton gefunden, eine Arbeit hat mich besonders inspiriert, der Name war docking, weisst du was docking bezeichnet?

S.: Irgendwas ineinander stecken?

B.: Ja, also das bezeichnet wenn zwei Männer ihre Schwänze aneinander stecken, und der eine die Vorhaut über den anderen zieht, ich fand das irgendwie super schön und romantisch, obwohl total pornographisch…perfekt einfach.

S.: Um noch mal auf dein Loch zurückzukommen stellt das Werk ja auch sofort die Frage, was ist Liebe, Romantik bzw. ist das Liebe?

B.: Genau, darauf wollte ich jetzt eh kommen. Die frage wie man sich annähern kann, ob man sich überhaupt so weit annähern kann oder ob das auf Körperlichkeiten beschränkt bleibt, in Wirklichkeit…

S.: Oder ob es einfacher ist sich sexuell anzunähern als emotional..

B.: Wo der Unterschied ist bzw was reiner und wahrer ist…

S.: Siehst du und das ist etwas womit ich als Betrachter sofort etwas anfangen kann!

B.: Danke.

S.: Erzähl doch mal kurz was zu deiner Performance, diese Kotz-Aktion…

B.: Es gab eine Performance und gibt ein Video, allerdings keinen Titel. Mein Performance-Partner Paul DeFlorian und ich haben uns gegenseitig die Finger in den Hals gesteckt bis wir uns übergeben mussten.

S.: Ihr habt echt gekotzt?

B.: Ja natürlich! Keine halben Sachen hier (lacht).

S.: Wie bereitet man sich auf so was vor?

B.: Mit ekelhaftem Essen, viel essen, es war schrecklich! Joghurt Drinks und Biskotten (dt. Löffelbiskuits) und gekühlter Kaffee. Es war nicht schön! Ausserdem musste alles kurz vorher rein. Ich musste mich echt zwingen, Paul hat mich angetrieben mehr zu essen!

S.: Wie weit würdest du gehen, was wäre dir zu drastisch, wo sind deine Grenzen?

B.: Sehr gute Frage….also ich glaube ausziehen würde ich mich nie, auch wenn das komisch klingen mag…

S.: Andere ausziehen aber schon?

B.: Immer doch! Besonders Männer! Hab aber noch keine Pläne in der Richtung. Zur Zeit bastle ich wieder an Installationsdingen.

S.: Noch mehr Porno-Kontext, äh, Romantik?

B.: Genau, Liebe! Ich würde gerne eine Lichtinstallation in einem Darkroom machen, muss aber erst einen finden der mich lässt!

S.: Was bedeutet Liebe für dich?

B.: Super schwere Frage! Ich glaube jedenfalls nicht an die Liebe im Sinne von Partnerschaft, (Kinder kriegen) und Heiraten und dann für immer und ewig, das auf keinen Fall. Ich glaube an die Liebe im Sinne von chemischen Prozessen im Gehirn

S.: Und Liebe im Sinne von Freundschaft?

B.: Ja das auch, sicher, vielleicht an die noch mehr als an die romantische Liebe.

S.: Ganz was anderes: Seit ich dich kenne hast du einen sehr individuellen (Klamotten)Stil mit sehr hohem Wiedererkennungswert, wie kam es dazu und was bedeutet dir das?

B.: Puh! Wie kam es dazu….Also ich glaub angefangen hat alles als ich ein kleiner Grufti war, als Grufti hab ich halt den Hang zur Nostalgie entwickelt, ich liebe einfach stilmässig die alten Zeiten, aber mir ist es auch zu mühsam mich 1:1 danach zu richten, ich trag einfach was mir gefällt oder was alt aussieht.

S.: Deine Stil-Ikonen?

B.: Schwer festzumachen, Bette Davis und Quentin Crisp, obwohl ich mich nur wenig optisch an ihnen orientiere…

S.: Möchten Sie noch was loswerden? Ein Schlusssatz? Ein Statement? Hast du keinen Leitspruch, ein Lebensmotto oder so?

B.: Nein, gar nicht!

S.: Ich hätte einen, den hat immer ein Mädel aus meiner Klasse gesagt, als wir so 12 Jahre alt waren…

B.: Raus damit!

S.: Die Elena Rödel, pickelig und stark geschminkt aber damals schon mit viel Sexualerfahrung, die hat immer gesagt: KEIN SCHWANZ IST SO HART WIE DAS LEBEN!

B.: Das gefällt mir! Sehr weise und fast schon philosophisch, nicht schlecht!

S.: Ich bedanke mich für das Gespräch, hat viel Spass gemacht!

Die Curve ID gibt es derzeit in 3 verschiedenen Fits. Aber das hab ich an dieser Stelle schon erwähnt. Hingehen, die Hose nehmen und dann zur Kasse is nicht mehr. Um die richtige Curve ID zu bekommen, muss man zunächst die eigenen Maße kennen oder die netten Damen vom Store bitten diese zu ermitteln. Nach diesem Prozedere wurde mir eine Demi Curve empfohlen, die ich dann gleich mal anprobiert hab. Et voilat, das Ding sitzt und wie. Das war ein Gefühl, als ob man eine zweite Haut drübergezogen bekommt. Passt einwandfrei sich an die Beine an und macht eine tolle Figur.

Gekostet hat sie 89, 95 Euro, was sehr ok ist und auch andere im Laden überzeugt hat. Allerdings gab es auch weniger begeisterte Kunden die dann aufgrund ihrer Maße von einer regular Fit überzeugt werden mussten. Die Schnitte der Curve ID eignen sich für schlanke Frauen. Wer hier und da ein paar Kilo zu viel hat, ist mit anderen Levis Modellen sicher besser bedient.

Abends hab ich dann meine neu erstandene Jean bei einem Date ausprobiert und der Typ hat gemeint, dass ich einen knackigen Arsch hab. Finde ich auch, und in Zukunft wird mir die Entscheidung beim Jeanskauf leicht fallen.

Was es mit dem vierten Modell so auf sich hat, und wie die Levis Curve ID zustande kam erfährt ihr demnächst im Interview mit Rosey Cortazzi. Sie ist Vize Präsidentin der Womans Design Abteilung und wird kommende Woche von unserem Chefblogger sirdorian in London zum Gespräch gebeten.

Are you rebelling against your Parents or do they support you in all kind of way?
No, not really. At first they were kinda “EH” about it so they didn’t really push it. It wasn’t about me though, about the things that can happen. I started it and they didn’t stop me. My family always want me to do what I feel is right and will support me on what I choose to do. I always knew I wanted to perform.

Your Demo Song “God Bless” is a very emotional track. . What inspire you to make this kind of music?
I was 13 when I recorded that song. Billie Holiday is a big influence on me and music in general. I’ve been singing gospel since I was a little girl. It came pretty natural. I mean its not the kind of music I’m doing on my album, but I enjoy singing that type of song and always will.

Did you have some Vocal lessons or is it a naturally thing that you sound that good?
I was in a gospel choir when since I was 8 and wasn’t “classically” trained before. When I turned 13 I wanted to learn how to sing opera, my mom got me a vocal coach. I love singing classical music. It also taught me a lot about controlling my voice, and what not to do to damage it. I’m not saying you absolutely need it, but it really will benefit you in the long run.

Your Vocals on The Virgins “Teen Lover” smash hit are different to a song like “God Bless”. So what can we expect from your tunes?
My stuff is all over the place. Sadly, I can’t post any of it on the Internet yet. Its like being in a spaceship with a heartbroken mental Bridgette Bardot and Britney Spears with bubblegum and shotguns.

Did you knew The Virgins before or how does it happen that you are on their record?
I had a few conversations with the one guy Nick and enjoyed his music a lot. He’s really nice. I hope to do some more stuff for them in the future. This guy who wants to sign me and is managing the Shoes wanted us to do a collaboration with them. I can’t say I’m singing much on it, but I think its a really fun track.

I’ve heard about a collaboration with Britney. Is this in progress?
Oh man,I WISH! You don’t even understand. I would probably die.

You are also doing modeling for the L.A. based label “waffles+falafels”?
I don’t know if I consider it modeling. The people involved with Waffles and Falafels are my best friends. Even though they like… live in Canada.

Who are your favorite Fashion Designers?
I’m fashionably stupid. I’m not even going to pretend like I know what is what. I’m too broke to pay for any of it anyways. I just like whatever I find is cute.

And your personal fashion Staple and shopping mindset?
I just like whatever captures my eye at first sight. I wish I could just shop for Robert Pattinson and Leonardo DiCaprio (1990’s version) instead of clothes. It would be so much easier. Less thinking, and most flattering.

Describe your Style in one Sentence:
Stick to dresses, I hate how pants look on me.

Fashion and the economy. We’ve just published a story about the global D.I.Y fashion movement. Do you also make your own stuff or are you interested in founding a Fashion Label one day like?
I would love to help someone with it? Maybe later on, at the moment I wouldn’t. I would feel kinda selfish trying to make a fashion label because it’s not really my mindset at the moment, I would rather give the chance to someone who wants it ALOT.

How is it for you to live in the US in a time when the economy crises hit the whole nation that hard?
Being my age I am a little naive about it all. I see my family and others struggle, it bothers me. Things could be worse though. I think the nation will get through it if we work hard at it.

Back to L.A. What new but unknown “worth to check out” artists would you recommend at the moment in Music, fashion & Art?
Mapei,Matt Porterfield, Mark Tieku, Anita Blay, White Arrows, Miike Snow, I Blame Coco,G.E.M., Radioclit, The Shoes. Sorry if I’m not that cool and up to date haha.

Where do you see yourself in about 5 years from now?
2 ALBUMS AND A DAVID LYNCH FILM!

I am very impressed what happen since our Interview last year. Ferreira is 17 now and on the way to become very popular all over the world. Her Music fit into the current electronic pop tinged Mainstream and she is still a darling of the Blogsphere. Maybe someday we can do another Interview somewhere in Europe. Could be fun.

They produce Art Bears who get the special look by Designer from Japan to Korea. It´s an Asian Look but you also can design the Bears on your own.

I felt in love with them and can imagine how good they would fit in my apartment. However, the price is a thing which didn´t fit to my budget at the moment. Only the new $50 based Vinyl Series is affordable for me.

It´s been six years now since you´ve launched BITNB. Were there many obstacles before it start to running well?

There are always obstacles. If there weren’t, everyone would have a successful clothing line. I like challenges though, I believe they build character, help you make better decisions going forward, and give you Grey hairs that look totally sexy.

What are the criteria for Artists if they want to be a part of BITNB?

I have to like their work and they have to be awesome people. That’s it. There is no science to it, it’s very much an intuitive process.

Where do you shop for your personal Wardrobe?

My office, my moms closet, a lot of my friends have clothing lines so we end up swapping tees for dresses and so on. Honestly I’m not a big shopper when it comes to clothes, I’d much rather buy jewelry, shoes and furniture. I think Mohawk General Store has great accessories, I always end up buying things on Gilt.com because I get caught up in the rush, and then mix and match it with clothes I’ve had since I was 14.

Is it always easy to produce the works of the BITNB Artists or do they have special requires according production of the T-Shirt?

Its not always easy. We challenge and push our screen-printers and production team to think out side of the box and create quality reproductions of their work. 95% percent of the time I think it ends up being an honest portrayal of their original piece. I don’t want to take a one color image and throw it in the middle of a t shirt I bought off some company who made it Pakistan. I don’t want to do everything the way it’s been done before. This is what sets BITNB apart.

Do you have an Artist Wish-list for BITNB?

Absolutely, Maya Hayuk, Auriel Schmidt, Tauba Auerbach and so many more.

A great Web Startup in my eyes is “Garmz.com”. It is a platform where people can upload their own Designs and if they are voted by the community, they will produce it and sell it at their webshop. How do you think can change Websites like these the Fashion Industry?

I just checked out Garmz.com, seems like an innovative idea, taking off from the way Threadless does it. User generated content or product is a safe bet, if you have a large group of people like a product before it goes to production you can ensure sell through to some degree. On the flip side, again it is a safe bet, and speaking for myself, I don’t like to be conservative when making decisions. You will noticed a marked difference between Blood is the New Black tees and one from a company like Threadless that produces user votes shirts. The difference is our tees are not always lowest common denominator friendly.

What are your future plans?

Try to find some time to take a vacation! We’re releasing the first season of our women’s contemporary division Half Light in the Spring of 2011, plus we have some great artist collaborated band merchandise, blank tees and baby and kids gear coming next summer.

“Wonderful Life” hit the Mainstream and got Airplay on the Radio Stations in the UK but also in the US. And it sounds like Kitsch on the highest Level to appear at the BBC Sound of 2010 list. On August 27th, “Happiness” will see the light as their Debut Album and could be one of the best release this year if you are into that kind of music. I hope you are, because this record offers a wide range of beauty and melancholy to welcome the end of the Summer.

Hurts do not need any featured Artists, but when it comes to the one and only Kylie, it´s ok for an exception. On “Devotion”, Kylie is the perfect extension and the connection to the golden age of music.

I´m not sure if they will last long. The Music sounds very retro and the Hype is a bit too far from any eligible point. “Happiness” is a great record out of the eighties but they have to improve themselves for the second Album. If not, nobody will recognize them in two years from now.

Organisiert wird er unter anderem von einem Herrn namens ElectroSagl, der in Kärnten bereits bekannt ist für ausgelassene Parties. Für den “Buschenschank Rave” hat er sich aber zur SalamiSagl gemacht.

Stadtflucht aus Wien wird Edgar Retro begehen, um das gewisse Wiener Blut und Electronic Soudns nach an den Klopeinersee zu bringen.

When did you start with vaatekaappi?

vaatekaappi is a synonym I created for Garmz. My original design philosophy goes more into the rather unwearable avant-garde direction. So I created vaatekaapi to make clothing, that is a little more feminine and wearable.

You´ve studied Fashion Design in Helsinki. How was it there?

Uhm. I really didn’t like the university. Unmotivated tutors and the talent level wasn’t that high. That was the reason why I went to Hamburg. The only great thing about this university is the amazing Laura Laine. You can’t believe how much I love her.

What was the reason to study in Finland?

I lived there, so it was the most logical step to study there, in order to avoid debts. But that was actually a huge mistake.

I´m origin from Denmark, and before I left my country for New York, I´ve met many young designer there. I think it is so different compared with Paris or New York, but very innovative. What do you think is the reason for that?

I’ve noticed, that most of the fashion capitals have great fashion colleges. Paris, London, Antwerp, Tokyo and New York all have fashion colleges with very good reputation. Additionally New York is the capital of modern art, so I’m pretty sure it attracts lots of talented people.

Do you have any favorite Scandinavian Designer?

There’re not many great Scandinavian designers, but I like the work of Henrik Vibskov, who is known for his weird menswear. But I love it.

Your Designs remind me about Ancient Greek Fashion. Toga and all that stuff. Not all Designs, but some of them. What was your inspiration?

I always have several inspirations. I honestly can’t name all of them. But mostly music, furniture, nature, architecture, art and history. But for the garmz-dresses I didn’t look at ancient Grecian fashion. I just think that draped fabrics are really flattering for a woman’s body.

Garmz.com a great opportunity for everyone with Skills to start a Fashion Label. Do you think that it could be a real Game changer in the Fashion Industry?

As much as I want it, I doubt that Garmz could move anything in the fashion industry. The biggest problem is, that many people (especially women) are still afraid to buy clothing online. And as far as I can recognize, the majority of the people, that upload designs are occasional designers. I think it’s also a huge problem, that many people vote for the illustrations and not for the clothes. But I’m sure Garmz will find it’s own place in the market.

For Young Fashion Designer, the Web is a great place to spread to World. Most time they are discovered by Bloggers. Do you have some daily blog reads?

I dislike the majority of the fashion blogs, that are popular nowadays. Most of them are just „look: I went to this party, I’ve got this new Miu Miu bag and now I repost something from style.com“. I really hate that. But I like the blogs of Sonny Vandeveldes and Tommy Ton, since they really contribute something new to their blogs.

When do you think will the first VAATEKAAPI piece available in the Garmz Store?

I’ve already been noticed, that they work on a prototype, so I hope it won’t take too much time.

I´ve read that you take a year off in Hamburg, but then you will continue your study in Helsinki. So, where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?

Well, I’ve decided to skip my studies in Helsinki and stay in Hamburg for now. I currently plan to restart my BA at Central Saint Martins in London. So in five years I hopefully completed my BA and will work in a very cool design atelier.

Kurze Zeit später sah ich ihn bei Charlotte Roche auf der Couch sitzen ( Fast Forward/ Viva Zwei R.I.P.) und er trug einen pinken Bademantel. Spätestens nach dem Video zu „Take me to Brodway“ wusste ich: Das ist mein Mann. Also jetzt nicht so mit heiraten und Kinder kriegen (Obwohl, üben könnte man ja mal…) sondern weil er einen wunderbaren abstrusen Humor hat, grossartige Texte schreibt, die vor allem sehr lustig sind und nebenher auch noch ein musikalisches Multitalent und ein begnadeter Pianist ist. Das alles wusste ich damals noch nicht, aber ich habe es über die Jahre herausgefunden.

Am Anfang waren die Lyrics, geschickt aneinander gereihte Wortturnereien, lautmalerische Lach-Orgien mit Witz und Doppeldeutigkeits-Weltmeisterschaftsqualifikation :

Chilly Gonzales’ Reime sind kleine, verschmitzte Frechdachse, die auf den Hooklines spektakuläre Seiltanz-Kunststücke vollführen, ohne jemals herunterzufallen. Wie er bei seinen Live-Auftritten gerne demonstriert, zieht er das düstere Moll dem idyllischen Dur vor und durch seine Pianisten-Fingerfertigkeit hat er genauso ein natürliches Gespür für harte treibende Beats wie für sanfte, leise Zwischentöne. Dies macht sich auch in seiner Arbeit als Produzent bemerkbar, man nehme das weltweit erfolgreiche Album der kanadischen Landsmännin Leslie Feist „Let it Die“ von 2004.

Minimalistisch aber doch prachtvoll, Discokugel-behangen aber doch schlicht, schleicht es sich von hinten an den arglosen Hörer heran und stupst ihm sexy auf die Schulter. Sexy stupsen – wie das geht? Fragen sie den Herrn im Bademantel. Die komplette Julian-Schnabel-isierung ( Pyjama, Zipfelmütze, jener Mantel)wird ab und an noch von der Anzug-Rüschenhemd-Kombo abgewehrt, wie lange ist allerdings fragwürdig…

Nun gibt es ein neues Album und hier hat sich der Multi-Mastermind nun wirklich selbst übertroffen. Nebst den 10 neuen Tracks hat er auch gleich noch einen Spielfilm realisiert und das Video zur ersten Single „ I am Europe“ wird so zum Trailer für „ Ivory Tower“ (Film- und Albumtitel). Es geht um zwei ungleiche Brüder (gespielt von Gonzales und Tiga), die beim Schach und in der Liebe zu Rivalen werden. Das Objekt ihrer beider Begierde wird von Peaches verkörpert.

Die Story stammt natürlich auch aus der Feder des Mister Alleskönner, gemeinsam mit Celine Sciamma ( Regisseurin des Coming-of-Age-Softpornos Waterlillies) erschuf er das Drehbuch für diese, laut Pressetext, existentialistische Sportkomödie.

Ungewöhnlich die Hauptrollen nur mit Musikern zu besetzen, zumal Tiga und Peaches eher für hedonistische Bühnenshows voller Sex und Rotze stehen als für Identitätsdramen aus der Welt der Profi-Schachspieler. Aber dies macht natürlich genau den Reiz aus und ich bin mir sicher- es wird funktionieren!

Das Album „Ivory Tower“ ist in Zusammenarbeit mit Alexander Ridha a.k.a Boys Noize entstanden, das allererste Mal übrigens, dass Gonzales mit einem externen Produzenten gearbeitet hat. Nach dem Boys-Noize Remix von Feists „My Moon, My Man“ waren die beiden erstmals aufeinander gestossen und Ridha sagte in einem Interview mir gegenüber letztes Jahr: „ Eigentlich kann ich nach dem Album dann aufhören und ich wäre glücklich mit dem Musik machen, so nach dem Motto…die Zusammenarbeit war so super, er hat mir fast völlig freie Hand gelassen, am Ende dachte ich: Geil, ich will nur noch mit Ihm Musik machen! Man kann unsere Zusammenarbeit schon einfach so als Schwarz und Weiss sehen, Gegensätze, die aufeinander prallen und sich befruchten!“

Gonzales, der Gott. Fast unheimlich wie ihn alle lieben und verehren, nun, dieser Mann muss doch auch Schwächen haben, vielleicht schnarcht er unwahrscheinlich laut oder er kann überhaupt nicht kochen oder pinkelt er etwa im Stehen? Scheiss der Hund drauf, das Album ist super und auf den Film können wir gespannt sein!

With their successful 2008 Release of “Day & Age” , the Las Vegas based The Killers toured almost two years. In January, they´ve announced a long break after 6 years of an amazing Band History. It´s not the end of them, but it seems that they need some space. Frontman Brandon Flowers is still motivated to make Music and worked on his first Solo Album, “Flamingo”, which is out on September 14th. The first Single, called “Crossfire” is out since a few Weeks and I´ve thought that he do not need the other Killers Band Member. It sounds like his main project, without any doubt.

Madison Square Garden (Second Night)

The Internet is not only for Porn, it is also the place where you can get the best Concert Bootlegs and I bought or downloaded hundreds of them over years. When Youtube came in, all changed in a positive way for me. It is the first address when you want to see Gigs from your favorite Bands, and most time Videos are Online just a few hours after the Show.

With a Youtube Download Software, you can simply collect them on your Harddisk and watch it with friends. But mostly the quality is shit and it´s only from one Camera Perspective, which could be a bit boring.

In 2009, the Irish Rock Band U2 teamed up with Youtube to Stream a full Concert for the first time there. The “Rose Ball” Show got broadcasted in the whole World and viewed by Millions of People. So, this was the beginning and with the Arcade Fire MSG 2 Show, a Youtube Concert Series were initiated.

Two weeks before the event, AF hired the British Director and former Monthy Pythons Member Terry Gilliam for the broadcast. A Media Buzz was the result of this and heavy speculation spread over the net. What will happen when a Legend like Gilliam direct a Concert Broadcast?

The sober Answer: Nothing. It was only a Concert Broadcast, and I´m happy that I was IN the Crowd and not watching the spectacular Show in my Apartment. Terry Gilliam was a nice Gimmick for the Press, but his influence was not recognizable.

Inside the MSG, the Crowd get ready for the second Sold Out Night with Arcade Fire. Owen Pallet and Spoon prove their Skills again and the Canadian Collective or Terry Gilliams Robots started around 10pm with “Ready to Start”.

The Setlist was different to the first Show. They´ve played “The Suburbs continued” and cut “Half Light II” . However, there was a moment which Win described as the best Moment of our Life. Due “Sprawl II” , the Drum Machine fucked up and they need to start the Song again. Regine tried her best but this Song is still one who need some development for the Live Shows.

It wasn´t the Moment when the Drum Machine was out of rhythm. It was the Moment when Win tried to kiss Regine (pic above). These are rare Moments, because they do not often show their love on the Stage.

Arcade Fire at Madison Square Garden, a night to remember for a lifetime. But for me, I´ve enjoyed the first night more than the second. Don´t miss the full Photo Gallery at the MSG Website.

Meriweather Pavilion , Columbia

They made History in New York, so I was sure that it is not possible to top this in Columbia. Except the sound would be better, because the legendary Meriweather Pavillion is known for an impressive Acoustic. You can´t compare it to the bad Arena Sound of MSG.

They guys looked relaxed after two Nights in New York and someone around me meant that they will get better from Show to Show. And he was right, because this was my fourth and last Gig on their “The Suburbs” Tour and they raised the bar since August 2nd in Philadelphia a lot but they still in the “Try out” Phase especially with the new Material.

This time, we witnessed another Drum Machine Failure. “Half Light II” was back in the Setlist but not for Long. A new Drum Machine would solve the Problem, but for that Night they cut the Song and played “Laika” instead.

“So, we started using drum machines to explore new sounds in our music and they sometimes f**k up. Like now. (pause) So we’re going to play Laika instead from our acclaimed debut album. We are a very professional band from Montreal.” meant Win but looked a bit annoyed.”

My Highlight was “The Well and the Lighthouse” from the “Neon Bible” Album.

With another Special Moment, the Meriweather Pavillion Show was the ice of the cake for me. On the way back to New York, I almost cried due listening to “The Suburbs” because I need to wait for a long-time to see them again. However, it was worth the trip and I was part of four magnificent nights.
