Creative with wallpaper

It´s possible to use wallpaper for a lot of decorative things other than on the wall. Recently I made myself two new pictures using wallpaper samples I had. I have also pimped up the lid of one of my boxes. But mostly I use it as a table runner on my table settings.

As I have told you earlier, Storeys have a wallpaper challenge going on these days. They want you to show them how you have used wallpaper in other creative ways. Restaurant Höst - Copenhagen

Restaurant Höst is a place I´ve been wanting to go ever since I saw all the wonderful pictures of the styling Emma Fexeus did for them before the opening last year. So we were all happy when Menu invited us to Höst when we were in Copenhagen on our Design Trade Blog Tour last week.

Norm Architects was responsible for the interior design of Höst as well as designing the tableware New Norm that is made especially for this restaurant. New Norm are produced by the Danish design house Menu.

The beautiful "Mass Light" in marble stone fits perfectly well in its surroundings.

I truly loved its cosy environment and the magical light in there. As for the food I have say that some of it was really good, and some not so good, but that´s my taste. It all looked beautiful at least. Overall I think it´s definitely worth a visit. Have you been there?

Styling at VIPP

The programme with Design Trade´s Blog Tour in Copenhagen was a surprise, and we didn´t know anything about what we were going to do, or who we were going to visit - kind of fun actually! One of our stops were at the VIPP´s Flagship store where we were challenged to style two of their kitchens and one bathroom. They had made sure of that we had a lot of props to choose from and they split us up in groups. We had 20 minutes on each styling, and then we had to take a picture. My partner in crime was Allan from Bungalow5 and this was our result:

Since this was a competition between the bloggers, we had to use whatever trick that was in the book. Allan took of his shirt and pretend he was cooking. It really completes the picture, don´t you agree? *smile*.

Dinner at Natalie Schwer´s apartment

I have to share some of all the beautiful pictures that the well-known photographer Line Klein took at our dinner in Copenhagen yesterday. We were invited to the stunning apartment of Natalie Schwer that is located on Islands Brygge. Design Trade, Broste, Le Creuset, Simply Chocolate all made sure we had a wonderful time and a delicious dinner, and I can´t say other than; wow, what an incredible evening! Everything was just perfect - the apartment, the people, the view, the food, the chocolate... everything!

Muuto

After having an amazing(!) weekend in Copenhagen at the BloggBliss2013, am I still in the city as I´m chosen to be a part of the "Bloggers Universe" that are arranged by Design Trade and Bungalow5 here in Denmark. There will be one blogger from eight different countries in Europe, that will spend three days together in this lovely city. I bet we will have a great time and explore lots of wonderful danish design. The program is still a secret, so I guess you have to follow me on Instagram if you are curious on what we will be doing the next few days *smile*. You´ll find me at @stylizimoblog

Anyway, before the program starts today I´m going to Muuto´s showroom as I´m invited for breakfast together with a few others, so I though I would share some of their pictures here today as I find them very inspiring. Maybe you´ll get a few ideas for your home... I certainly do!

In a few hours I will be in Copenhagen checking in at the fabulous hotel STAY. Yes, it´s time for BloggBliss 2013, and together with 37 girls we are going to have the time of our lives in this great, great city!

STAY Copenhagen is an apartment hotel where the interior design philosophy is rooted in comfortable Scandinavian minimalism, designed by Danish HAY. DIY for summer parties

It´s the season for parties, and it´s always fun to surprise your guest with the little extra. Why not decorate your refreshments with butterfly-straws like I have done here? I have used butterflies that were meant to be place cards, but by cutting two lines in the middle I got a hole for the straw. If you don´t have the place cards you can cut out a butterfly out of thick paper instead. Colored paper would be nice too.

I have some leftover flowers from a styling I was working on this weekend. The peonies are on their last days and have started dropping their leaves, but that only makes it even more beautiful and alive. A few hints of pink/peach are now bringing a summery feeling into our living room. I like it!

Decorating tips: mixing patterns

It may seem a little scary to mix patterns, but if you stick to the same color scheme, you can hardly go wrong. In my living room you can see an example on how I have mixed different patterns in black and white. I can easily add some color here as well if I want to. Lately, I have been adding yellow and it goes really well with our monochrome living room.
Patterns stand out and makes a room more dynamic and interesting, so don´t be afraid to try it out.

The weather has been amazing the last few days, and suddenly it´s time to move outside. We have some painting to do before we can start to use our little terrace, so in the meantime I´m looking at other inspiring outdoor areas. Are you all set for the Norwegian National Day tomorrow? Maybe you are having guests but you haven´t prepared the decorations yet? Personally I don´t think that you don´t have to decorate with the flag all over. It can be just as nice to use flowers from your garden instead. Maybe you have some white or blue flowers, or maybe some branches of birch. Simple and beautiful.

After showing you the amazing purple hotel suite at Grand Hotel yesterday, I have to show you that I actually have a few hints of purple in my living room as well. Purple is very beautiful together with black, white and grey, don´t you agree?

Grand Hotel - The Mikado Suite

Today I was invited to see the Mikado suite that Fargerike have renovated at the Grand Hotel in Oslo, and I can´t say other than; wow! The suite is decorated in lovely shades of purple which is the color Fargerike announced to be the color of the year for 2013. Another thing I like, is all the fabulous Norwegian design they have used in the Mikado suite. Norwegian design is hot, hot, hot these day, so pay attention!

My favorite room var the living room with its lovely dusty lavender on the walls and with a few hints off brass here end there, such a perfect combination. Notice the sofa designed by Norway Says "OK" that are upholstered in velvet purple fabric - absolutely wonderful. The sofa is produced by LK Hjelle.

The plates on the wall are from the collection Lys by Wik & Walsøe. They look all white on this picture, but they are decorated with real gold that gives beautiful sparks and a glittery effect.

In all the rooms you´ll find interesting photo art by Helene Jellestad. They make a great contrast against the traditional furniture.

I have written about Ygg & Lyng earlier, and I´m happy to see that their beautiful table Viola is represented there as well. Designed by the sweet Elin Louise Sveen. To the left on the table you also see the Beacon lamp that is designed by Magnus Pettersen. This lamp will be sat in production this fall.

In the suite you´ll also find The Royal Family that is a collection of decorative glass vessels with fairytale details and shapes, designed by Vibeke Skar. Such a lovely piece of work.

The well known designer Andreas Engesvik´s work is also to be seen in the suite. Both with his beautiful Bunads blanket produced by Mandal Veveri and his new desk Alto produced by Fjordfiesta, which they have painted in a purple color called Pilati. He is also a part of the trio behind the OK - sofa that is in the living room.

The bedroom is the most eclectic room in the suite and is full of bold contrasts. It may look a bit too much on the picture, but it was a really good atmosphere in there and it all worked very well in real life.

So if you are looking for a different kind of hotel room next time you´re in Oslo, maybe the Mikado suite could be something for you? I would love to spend a night here!

Decorating tips: Bedroom and curtains

I´m usually not a fan of curtains, but I like the idea of filling a whole wall with them, especially in the bedroom for a hotel feeling. I have been wanting to do this for over a year now, and finally I found some time to get it done, and I´m very happy with the result.

It was actually a quite easy and affordable project. I found a cheap curtain rail with gliders at Kid Interior that I screwed into the ceiling. Then, I attached hooks to five lengths of curtains from Ikea. (I bought the white ones called Vivan, but I actually recommend some softer ones that probably would hang more nicely and that would be easier to iron).
As for the window we have a white blackout roller blind, so it gets dark when we are sleeping.

Another idea for the bedroom is the curtain rod I use for planning my outfits. It does not take up too much space and it´s perfect for planning what to wear the next day or for the whole week for that matter. I found this on sale at Ikea a while back, but I guess there are a lot of similar ones out there.

Decorating tips: Green Plants

Green plants make any living room more welcoming I think. I decorate with a lot using cold colors in my home, so a green plant here and there creates a more homey feeling and adds freshness to the room. If you find a room to look a bit "naked", try adding a nice green plant - I´m sure it will do wonders!
