Hey all, I have put up the podcast interview with Jamil Walker-Smith who plays Sgt. Ronald Greer on Stargate Universe. We talked about hugging in space suits, on Sgt. Greer’s issue with Dr. Rush, on Robert Carlyle’s lectures on Scotland, and where how he want his character to evolve. Listen Here!

In the interest of full disclosure, this was the first audio interview I’ve edited, so be warned it’s gonna have a few hiccups throughout.

Jamil was hilarious. I had to edit out the part where he promises to take us out partying in Vancouver, but here’s hoping he makes it to the SPACE HQ for a cameo on InnerSPACE!

Sadly, he wouldn’t divulge any crazy dish for us on the show, but he did want us to leave you with this Bjork video, which reminds him of hugging it out in a space suit.

Is Stargate Universe's Dr. Rush evil or misunderstood?

You've got to wonder if Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle), the single-minded genius on Syfy's SGU: Stargate Universe, is on the right show. Maybe he hopped over from Caprica before anyone noticed and now it's too late. However it happened, Carlyle's character is so morally ambiguous we don't know if we can trust him.

Looking at his deeds just in the six episodes that have aired so far, you really have to wonder: Is he evil? Maybe not evil like Darth Vader or the Master, but evil like Battlestar Galactica's Gaius Baltar or Lost's Ben.

In the very first episode, Rush claims he didn't dial Earth because of the danger to Earth in dialing from a volatile planet. OK maybe. But he also sent dozens of people into an unknown situation that just happened to be the dilapidated Ancient ship, the Destiny.

Over and over again, we question the motives of this Machiavellian scientist, who too often seems willing to sacrifice people to make sure he can continue his life's work, which includes exploring the secrets of the Stargate and now the Destiny.

Executive producer Brad Wright has said people aboard the Destiny are "in a position where we have to trust the son of a bitch who put us in this situation, because he has a lot of the knowledge that we need just to stay alive."

It shouldn't surprise us that the amazing Carlyle has been so convincing as Rush, considering he's played everything from a policeman to a psychopath to a male stripper to a James Bond villain to a cannibal to Adolf Hitler! There's no denying the Scottish actor has range, and it's range he's put to good use as Dr. Nicholas Rush...

Almost like the dependability of a Swiss watch, the staff here at GateWorld loves to sit down with Michael Shanks every six months or so if they get the chance. Another occasion presented itself this past August, when we traveled to Chicago to talk to him during Creation Entertainment's Official Stargate Convention.

While our talks with Michael aren't always lengthy due to time constraints in a convention setting, they are always opinionated and informative. Our latest conversation with the actor is no exception.

In this interview, Michael discusses his views on the re-cut "Children of the Gods," his upcoming guest role on Sanctuary, and his impressions of Stargate Universe based on his time on the sets. Always the diplomat -- much like his peacemaker counterpart on SG-1 -- Shanks talks candidly about fan reaction to the series.

Tapping’s ‘Sanctuary for Kids’ charity launches

The brand new charity organization sponsored by actress Amanda Tapping and the team at Sanctuary has officially opened its doors! Sanctuary for Kids aims to raise money “to provide sanctuary for children who do not live with the right of safety in their lives.”

The organization was founded by Tapping, along with Sanctuary creator (and former Stargate SG-1 writer) Damian Kindler and Jill Bodie, a teacher and social worker. Its goal is to leverage the show and the actors, and the generosity of science fiction fans, to raise money to then distribute to other charities that do work in children’s safety and welfare...

“Eli knows he’s smart,” explains Blue. “He’s not a genius in that he was born an Einstein, but he can figure things out and see patterns in things. One of the reasons I think he has a good sense of humor is that he can see patterns in the world and find the humor in certain things. That’s who Eli is, and because he applied his intelligence to random things, he never truly found his way. He dropped out of MIT and had a whole bunch of stuff in his life that took precedence..."

David Blue: All Across the Universe

From vampires to fashion photographers, David Blue certainly likes to cross genres when it comes to his television credits. Now he can be seen crossing galaxies as the character of Eli Wallace on Sy-Fy’s newest incarnation of the Stargate franchise, Stargate Universe. Abbie Bernstein met up with Blue to chat about his latest role…

A brief excerpt:

Did you have any opinions about your Stargate Universe cast mates – Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips or Ming-Na – before working with them?

Absolutely! I watched ER from Season One to the end, and Chun Li in Street Fighter – oh, my God! – so I love Ming-Na’s work. Lou Diamond Phillips – I’ve been giving him crap, because everyone remembers him as Richie Valens [in La Bamba]; the truth is, I remember him from Stand and Deliver. Robert Carlyle – 24: Redemption, 28 Weeks Later, The Full Monty, Trainspotting – some of my favorite movies!

So as I always tell people, it’s not like the casting sold it for me, but it was the icing around the cake. I not only get to play a good role with an amazing script that drew everyone to it, but I get to work with these people, which is like a gift.

Stargate Universe is currently airing on Sy Fy in the US and the Sci-Fi Channel in the UK.
