Sudan: The Passion of the Present

Passion of the Present is a place for sharing ideas and inspiration on how to stop the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. We are here every day as a resource for the community, aspiring to be the most effective advocates for the people suffering in Darfur. As a web community, we are the most free to speak the truth and honor that truth with our activism. Please share your thoughts and ideas for action. E-mail us at passionofthepresent@yahoo.com. You can help save the people of Darfur through your net advocacy, hacktivism, and netpeace. Please support the Genocide Intervention Fund and other grassroots initiatives. In the words of the late Dr. Martin Luther King: "Man's inhumanity to man is not only perpetrated by the vitriolic actions of those who are bad, it is also perpetrated by the vitiating inaction of those who are good."

Still Another Update on "RSS Feeds of News from Africa"--Plus Additional Odds 'n' Ends

Unfortunately, I've only recently discovered the likely reason for the problems that I've been having with the widgets on what had been the page of RSS feeds of news from Africa: Apparently, back in January, a quiet announcement was made that SpringWidgets would be shut down--even though the SpringWidgets site is still up, for the time being. Right now, the widgets of Sudan-, DR Congo-, Somalia-, and Zimbabwe-related feeds appear to be functioning normally; however, there may be issues developing with regards to some of the feeds contained in those widgets--and, if I try correcting those feeds now, it looks like I'll end up causing the same issues with the widgets on those pages. Therefore, if you know of any freely available widgets that are equivalent to SpringWidgets' basic reader widget (#23), please let me know--as the widgets that I've seen so far from other providers don't appear to be appropriate.

Separately, since the last update, I've come across feeds for Operation Broken Silence (thanks to Enough), "Africa News Search", the "East African Tribune" (also thanks to Enough), Celeste Hicks' Chad-related blog (thanks to Mr. Kleinman), the official blog of Geoffrey York of Canada's "Globe and Mail", IDP Action, the GBV Prevention Network, Angel Mission, the National Association of Professional Environmentalists in Uganda, the National Council of Churches of Kenya, the bilingual (French/English) site for West Africa Resource Watch, the Stop Firestone Coalition, the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, Because of Tomorrow/Makaechi Group, Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria, the Ngoyla Mintom Campaign, Shona's blog, Under the Baobab Tree's blog, Bola Moyo, the Zimbabwe Scholars Group, the African Biosafety Network of Expertise, the African Biotechnology Stakeholders Forum, the Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network, the related Africa-Wide Civil Society Climate Change Initiative for Policy Dialogues, the South African Climate Action Network, Earthlife Africa, South Africa's Children's Movement/Children's Resource Centre, and Thrive Africa. In addition, the travel/tourism-news site eTurboNews does feature continent- and country-specific feeds. (Updated originally, on Saturday, to also note the feeds for Rosebell Kagumire's relaunched blog
