About Alex: I moved to San Diego to go to San Diego State a year after graduating from Palmdale High School. (Palmdale is North/East of L.A.)

A lot of my of relatives on my dad's side (including my sister and brother) are artistically inclined and are teachers or professors, but ironically, none of them are art teachers. That's where I fit in as my intention is to teach art.

My artistic influences?: The band, TOOL. I listen to them a lot when I'm painting. Alex Gray, who happened to do cover for TOOL's Lateralus. Wow, there's so many artist to chose from: Leonardo for his genius; Van Gogh for his enraged passion; Goldsworthy for his medium -- the environment; Banksy for his gutsy-ness; Rothko for making me feel sublime when I saw one of his pieces for the first time. I guess I could go on and on in this manner.

I have never painted live before. I expect there's going to be a creative energy that permeates through everyone when they come to these events (live music and art shows).

Red's Espresso Gallery is located at 1017 Rosecrans Street, San Diego (in Point Loma). Sleep Lady is also one of my favorite bands and it will be great to see this line up with the addition of Gran Sasso (whom I have not seen before). Tickets are on sale now at www.sodabarmusic.com.

I am grateful to know about these local bands such as Irradio that are making such a positive impact through sound vibrations, words and intentions.

I r R A d i o

When your band has two lead guitarists, it's a safe bet you're going to attract more metal heads than mopers. When the members of Irradio were asked to describe their music, singer/guitarist Dan Dasher - the only member to survive all Irradio incarnations - said "blues-punk," Formed in 1999, Irradio recorded 2002's Semantic Noise at Sweet Sound Studios, and 2004's Make-Up for the Inaugurated, with Ben Moore (Hot Snakes, Rocket from the Crypt) at Signature Sound. The Sexy Wolf demos were released in 2006 on Lola Records. Their music has appeared on the Discovery Channel's Urban Explorers; Tony hawks '08 Loop Challenge, Afro-punk’s 2010 release of “Let’s get free,” and on compilation CDs (Insound, Magnet, and Amp). Irradio has shared the bill with some of today’s amazing artist: Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Saul Williams, Living Colour, and Black Heart Procession, also adding promising inroads through Canada, U.S. and Mexico early in the bands life.

After a 2006 split, Irradio announced it was reforming in late 2008. Front man Dan Dasher chose to finish writing the songs that became Irradio's third album. New comers Steven Welker (Sax) and the driving Bass lines of Rick Blare catapulted the band to a new sound. In 2009, Irradio released I Am the Horn, on local Blind spot Records (Staring at the Sun, etc.), and produced by Mitch Wilson (No Knife). It won Best Rock Album at the 2009 San Diego Music Awards. That year also noted the first time the band was invited to perform at SXSW on a bill that showcased new emerging artist sponsored by afropunk.com.

With a history of music guided by current events and travel irradio is taking their sound to a new level that represents the power of freedom in 2011.
About the North Trio:

North Trio is a young jazz group in San Diego who combine elements of straight-ahead jazz, hip/hop jazz, and afrobeat influences. The group combines elegance with youthful energy in their eclectic mix of originals, jazz standards, and arrangements. Formed in 2011, the group consists of guitarist Dillon Casey (who has studied with classical guitar virtuoso Celin Romero and jazz guitar luminary Peter Sprague), bassist Tim McNalley (just out of high school and the son of bassist/Hutchins String Consort leader Joe McNalley), and drummer/percussionist Tyler Olson. Casey and McNalley first gained attention as members of the San Diego Music Awards-winning rock group the New Archaic. All three are currently members of the In Motion Trio, who recently received the “Best Jazz” award at the 2011 San Diego Music Awards.

“Odyssey” occurs on the first and third Thursdays of the month and highlights the work of local artists; encourages support of musicians and live music while celebrating the creativity in all of us.
We had our second Sweet Indulgence event at The Turquoise on March 10th and it was a wonderful. Not only did we have the lovely duo LOVE AMOS perform an early set, we also had Esencia Jazz Ensemble perform and several guest musicians arrived to celebrate during this evening. Local artist True Delorenzo created a patio full of his lovely paintings, with the assistance of David Goff; Hillary Young and Quentin Anderson created live art on-site as well as featured their latest works. Daniel Hardison showed his work for the first time at this venue -- several canvases filled with his beautiful vision and Richard ChauDavis took his blurry pictures and experiential photography to an entirely different level!

Local Pacific Beach business, Sugar and Scribe, featured edible art in the form of delicious cupcakes, tarts and truffles.

The Turquoise has delicious food -- salads, appetizers and an extensive selection on the dinner menu. We tried the Risotto (which was vegetarian) with cheese, anise, and delightful flavors. You'll also want to check out the tapas menu (which are on special for happy hour -- 5-7 p.m. daily).

The next Sweet Indulgence event will be on Thursday, April 14th at 5:30 p.m. with Steve Harris (of The Styletones and Stevie and the Hi-Stax) performing an early set. You will not want to miss this evening of soul, rhythm and blues and jazz by Esencia Latin Jazz Quartet!

Look forward to more amazing local talent with LIVE art and LIVE music for our delight. The ultimate love experience.
Copyright Brigitte Taylor 2010.

I am really excited about this new year and the many experiences that will be here for us in 2011.

This month, I am focusing more on the organization of bachelorette parties and special events. I have met amazing people, incredible vendors and venues and I am super enthusiastic as we move forward in our planning for those who are about to tie the knot.

At the same time, I am super excited for those who are not getting married. My idea of a bachelorette party, for example, can be for any woman who wants to celebrate where she is right now. You want to party and celebrate with your friends? It could be a "just because party," a "birthday party," a "bringing closure to a relationship that needed to end party" or even a "divorce party."

Regardless of the situation or scenario, there is a beautiful theme, a beautiful message and a host of opportunities to celebrate the present moment in the environment of your choosing. I will utilize all of my resources in an effort to assist in creating a very memorable occasion in the venues of your choice. Let's bring in this new year properly!

It is a time of abundance as we create, expand and receive the blessings that are constantly available and pouring forth with this new year!

As Christmas and holidays quickly approach, I am in deep gratitude for the friendships that I have established as well as the individual empowerment and community efforts to which so many are committed across the globe. As we plant our seeds and trust, we often know that things are underway even when we do not see immediate results or a complete plan.

I have been working on a few writing projects this year. One of them is the book, There's Magic In Every Day which was co-written by Chase Steele Greye and me. This book honors the beauty of our power as creative manifestors on this planet and the willingness to go for a dream. I cannot tell you how much it has meant to me to be able to work on a project like this with someone as creative, visionary and risk-taking as Chase.

The book is available and for sale online and I hope you will pick up a copy and share it with your friends and family. Completing this book has only given me more fuel that I will inject into other areas of my artistic life. I intend to use some of the proceeds to assist in the work that I intend to do in Africa with refugees communities.

What are you working on? What are you creating? Well, I am here with you, giving thanks for the vision that you are receiving, even before you may see it materialize.

What I have heard many say, really is true: anything is possible!

Best wishes to you always and Happy New Year.
Copyright Brigitte Taylor 2010.

I will also show people easy ways to become more peaceful using meditative techniques. Please email me at suitebrigitte@gmail.com or give me a call at 619.852.5773 to schedule an appointment.

One of the key components to making various transitions in my life was having someone who could hold the space of my vision and/or help me to have a vision when I felt as though I needed to gain clarity and focus. I often went to bookstores at lunch time or after work seeking inspiration and greater understanding. I do believe we always find what we seek. It is my goal to be there especially during these times for people, regardless of the situation.
Copyright Brigitte Taylor 2010.

This is one of the reasons why we are buffers rather than experiencers.

~ Jean Toomer

I feel that an extraordinary existence begins with our ability to live our lives to the fullest, to dream and experience the totality of the actions that we take. Taking risks and being available to the opportunities that are created by making BOLD moves will certainly teach us a few things about ourselves, our inner strength, our faith and where we are heading.

Is it worth it?

Yes, it most certainly is. If you cannot stand your job and want to do something different, what is holding you back? Most of the responses I hear range from family responsibilities, paying bills, lack of education or experience and not knowing what to do next. I have found that it really helps to reserve small amounts of time each day to think about your heart's desire; to meditate, plan, and focus on what you really want. Some of the time you spend exploring can be through using your hobbies to assist in your quest for the areas of your life in which you find the most passion. It may take reading a book like The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron, or Succulent Wild Woman by Sark, to stimulate creativity and give you a strong boost in the realm of inspiration.

Our society and its institutions could really benefit from more creativity: that is, more playful moments, more laughter and art, more dance, more music and more beauty (more of the activities that are currently being removed from our public school system). Who has the time for all of that? We have to create the time for it or we will never have it. These creative and expressive acts promote and encourage us to dream, to feel our connectedness and to express ourselves more authentically.

What is it that you would like to create for your life? Believe it is possible. Who is doing what you would like to do? Go talk to them. Whatever it is -- perhaps a current hobby that you already love -- which will become your next business venture or career.

When I discovered this quote, it hit me in the heart like an arrow -- right on point. Having a fulfilling life really does take a commitment to making sure that the experiences we choose are in alignment with life we truly want to have. If we are the ones creating our lives, then it does take focus and a level of awareness to make sure that we are consistently involved in activities and surrounded by the people who empower us and encourage us to thrive. Sometimes we may not have a community or network of folks who are able to be this empowering force. Upon noticing this, we can place our attention on creating space for more encouraging people to enter our lives who honor the spirit of our commitment to living life amplified and out loud.
Copyright Brigitte Taylor 2010.

Where is the Safety Zone?!

The safety zone is always in place and all we have to do is trust in its existence. As I thought about the questions presented in the discussion, it became increasingly clear that as we move into areas that feel unfamiliar, the safety zone is instantly extended and like a beautiful webbed invisible network, it holds us while we move toward a desired outcome.

Why Fear?

We can decide that fear will be energy that is used as fuel for our own progress and development. The omnipresent safety net has and will always be there. Just think: you ask for something, allow it to be there and it will.

If we notice what is occurring in life with fresh eyes and a different perspective, the question becomes: are we willing to fully embrace our creations or do we view the present conditions with doubt and fears based on illusion?

Viewing the present with fresh eyes, we can set intentions and allow the ripple effects to manifest for the highest good of everyone all of the time. Just because we do not see the ripple effects of the intentions immediately does not mean the blueprint of the intention is not in place; it is actually in formation as you intend, speak, feel and trust.
Copyright Brigitte Taylor 2010.

Since 2007, I have been coaching people by using energy medicine (also known as Reiki, energy healing, energetic empowerment, intentions and manifestation) to help them alleviate emotional, mental, psychological discomfort and any perceptions of blocks in various areas of their lives. It has been a remarkable journey for me to be involved with others in an area of service in this capacity. The funny thing is, I never attempted to learn much about energy healing per se, but have been fascinated by manifesting and the law of attraction for years.

When I went through a marital breakup, I had the opportunity to take a very deep look into myself, my beliefs, patterns and desires. While I did not want to separate from the person I loved and married, it was inevitable. As a result of that union and breakup, I learned that I needed to be able to accept, transition and let go; I learned about the things that were holding me back (holding on to my concepts of the past and what I wanted rather than being able to see beyond what I thought I wanted and be open to an even greater opportunity).

I turned to my spiritual life for solace and found spiritual teachers, a strong yoga practice, the power of meditation and eventually was introduced to energy healing by my yoga teacher. I was beyond fascinated by what my teacher shared with me and by what is actually possible and available to us wherever we are. I worked with others and learned these practices of healing for myself and my own mind through the non-physical energetic method called Yuen Method (created by Dr. Kam Yuen) and Reiki (hands on healing which can also be done remotely). Additionally, I learned even more about the power of our thoughts; the power of prayers; as well as the vast array of information that is available everywhere -- online, in workshops and by every day people who are devoted to this empowering field.

The field of love.

I was inundated with all kinds of emotions relating to a new life without the one I thought I would be with forever. It certainly did not occur to me that all of this would fuel my growing passion for assisting people to shift their consciousness, to set intentions and fly -- as I had been doing.

We never know what is in store for our lives. We have dreams, we attain them; life takes us through peaks and valleys and we have options -- we can learn to flow through these moments (regardless of the level of difficulty) in total trust without attachment to outcomes. We learn and witness that our beautiful and strong wings really do appear when they are necessary -- not too soon and never too late.

Trust. Honor yourself where you are. Sometimes it does not feel so easy but it can be done. We really can be in gratitude for "it" all. You are victorious right now, regardless of your circumstances, other people's perceptions of you or what people think you should be doing with your life. Trust what you know about the beauty that is YOU. You will see how "this too shall pass" and this too shall serve as fuel, not only in your own life but in the lives all of the people whose lives you bless with your presence.

If you are undergoing challenges right now that are testing your faith, stand firm in your beliefs and protect your thoughts. Surround yourself by the people and conditions that offer inspiration and love for who you are in this moment. Watch what happens now.
The movie was directed and written by Raymond E. Brown (Earl Ray) and William Arntz. Interestingly, William Arntz also co-directed and wrote What the Bleep Do We Know?! and What the Bleep?!

I have not seen Ghetto Physics yet (it was released in October 2010) but I definitely intend to check this out. Apparently a movie filled with excellent music, activists, teachers and interviews -- I am sure it is jam packed with all kinds of interesting perspectives and insights.

E. Raymond Brown said the first time he introduced this concept of Ghetto Physics was through his book "Stand Up" (2003). He suggests that we create our reality from metaphysics and move into ghetto physics. If certain rules are forced on groups of people where aspects of the rules contradict the group's internal nature, segments of that group reverse the rules and create their own realities. Many of us are creating new rules, new ways of being, behavior, attitudes towards our lives and realities that work for us in spite of what society has promoted.

I am thinking about the nature of empowerment and entrepreneurship. I find an article in a metaphysical magazine dealing with these concepts. As I read the text, I am motivated to continue down the adventurous path rather than the known and mediocre journey. What Brown is talking about is our ability to shift, consciously empower ourselves and make things happen in our lives.

The co-director William Arntz says that peoople need to stand up for what they really want to do instead of the things that society tells them they need to do. I agree. It is not necessarily the easiest route, but it can be -- especially when you surround yourself with people who support you as you move in a more fierce and direct expression of who you truly are.

We say we want to take leaps of faith and we do. We leap, we jump, we risk and we also encounter the hurdles that arise as we move with authenticity. What is a hurdle? A hurdle can be a perception; a hurdle can be a thought; a hurdle can be any experience of lack whether it is resources, financial or love. When we are in the midst of the hurdle moment, we can acknowledge the emotions that are occurring and let them out by allowing the energy to move and move us deeply. It may take a cry in a warm tub of water; a scream into a pillow; a brisk for run through the woods -- whatever you can do to allow yourself to fully feel and move the energy and help to bring yourself back to a sense of peace. From here it is easier to shift to a more peaceful state which will enable you to move on to the next phase of your creativity.
Copyright Brigitte Taylor 2010.

This song, "Jewel in the Heart of a Lotus," by San Diego soul band The Styletones, speaks loud and clear to me about personal freedom and the power of being in a state of joy. So many people are experiencing mental entrapment: living in the past, worrying about the future and frustrated by present conditions and challenges that may be occurring in their lives. Positive music like this gives people hope regardless of what they are going through. We must continue to support our local artists by attending shows, hiring them for our parties and buying their CD's and merchandise. They often give us new perspective and a freshness in our thinking when folks can easily become jaded. We can show our appreciation by being there for them as well. Music offers so much hope and possibility for all of us.

Copyright Brigitte Taylor 2010.

It may sound simple but our thoughts, intentions and words play a huge role in our daily experiences. As I browse through posts on facebook, twitter and blogs, I am surprised by the way some people are using their energy and what they are creating through their words, what type of information they are sharing and interpretations of various experiences. As I listen to people and their words about themselves and others, I so frequently want to share something that would demonstrate the power we have through use of language and how it can positively or negatively impact their own experiences. When I found the video above, I was interested in checking out words of power. It can be so beneficial to use powerful words to maintain a state of clarity and confidence. Why not be uplifting?
Copyright Brigitte Taylor 2010.
