Sukhia Pokhari is a small but scenic town lies between Ghoom Johrbonglow and Mirik. Situated around 2000 meters from the sea level provides an excellent Mountain vistas in clear sunny days. Remains mostly cloudy as it lies on ridgeline of Balasan River Valley to the south and Rangeet River to north. Weather remains perfectly blissful during the spring (April/May) and in autumn (October/November).

From Sukhia Pokhri one can go to different tea gardens via Pokhariabung Bazaar and other small towns or villages. Johr Pokhri is the home of the Himalayan Salamander (Tylototriton verrucosus), the most elusive and endanger animal in the world. There are several towns & villages nearby and on the India-Nepal border such as Manebhanjang, Simana, Mirik, Pokhriabung, Plungdung etc.

Sukhia Pokhri has a police station, post office, block development office, primary health center, secondary and higher secondary schools and banks.

A road from Sukhia Pokhri leads to Mane Bhanjang and then on to the trekking destinations, Sandakphu and Falut along the Singalila Ridge.

Sandakphu is considered as a trekkers’ paradise. One can get to Sandakphu from Mane Bhanjang by 4WD vehicle. Trekking into Sandakphu starts from an altitude of 1,524 meters (5,000 feet) and gradually climbs up to 3,658 meters (12,000 feet. A glimpse of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Kumbhakarna, Kanchenjanga, Jomolhari and other peaks are outstanding from this point.

The two words "Johr" means two (2) and "Pokhri" means the "pond", Johr Pokhri is marked by two natural water ponds and a beautiful landscapes setting a gorgeous view of Mount Kanchenjunga, the third highest in the world. Lies on the hilltop (2500 meters from the sea level) surrounded by lush pine forest, this point provides a breathtaking views of Darjeeling and Kurseong on one side and the entire Kanchenjunga range on the other side.
