As their trusted designer, we embarked on a multitude of design projects over the years. These projects included website maintenance, window decals, the creation of the Mile One Market Logo, the design of their Night Market Maker Series Event logo and marketing, ad campaigns, and menu design. In 2020, we undertook a logo rebranding, simplifying their look and infusing it with sophistication. In addition to these exciting projects, we collaborated on passion projects such as the Producer Infographic Display, where we showcased the origins of their locally sourced and expertly curated products sold in their market thru a multi-panel visual display. For this endeavor, we not only designed the infographics but also managed photography and copywriting by local talent. Most recently, we created a fun and engaging visual map for them to visually answer their number one question received while at market: Where is Hanceville?

Transition to Ranching – Welcome Hanceville Cattle Co.

Randy and Cindy’s journey took an exciting turn in 2018 when they ventured into ranching, giving birth to Hanceville Cattle Co. Nestled in Chilcotin Country, BC, this venture was dedicated to bringing 100% Grass-fed beef to the table, further solidifying their commitment to culinary excellence. We were there to provide comprehensive branding support, which included logo design, a brand identity toolkit, web design and development of their user-friendly e-commerce site, banner stand design, ad campaigns, social media campaign artwork, merchandise, and more. Their commitment to quality in the food industry remained unwavering, and their website served not only as a platform to showcase their high-end grass-finished beef but also as an educational resource for their clientele.

Range & Co.

In 2022, Range & Co. was founded to embark on a new culinary adventure, bridging the gap between agriculture and crafted culinary delights. We had the honor of helping them with logo design and marketing materials for this exciting venture. Range & Co.’s mission is to deliver artisanal frozen dishes right to your kitchen, ensuring you and your family can savor meals that are both delicious and nourishing.

Web Design and Branding for Empowered Nations

• Web Design: Sumire Design crafted an engaging CMS-based website for Empowered Nations. The website aimed to provide a welcoming digital space for Indigenous entrepreneuers and garner interest for future prospective students.

Educational Outreach – Branding 101 and Brand Identity:

Our involvement extended beyond design and web development. We had the privilege of teaching two in-person classes, “Branding 101” and “Brand Identity,” to Empowered Nations’ entrepreneurial students for two consecutive years.

Lesson Structure

• Structured Curriculum: We developed a structured curriculum covering both “Branding 101” and “Brand Identity.” These courses were designed to empower students with the fundamental principles of branding.
• Comprehensive Understanding: Our courses went beyond teaching that a brand is not merely a logo but a comprehensive identity and message for a company, product, or service. We emphasized that branding actively shapes the perception consumers have as they come into contact with a business.
• Inspirational Indigenous-Owned Businesses: In our quest to provide students with real-world inspiration, we delved into the success stories of Indigenous-owned businesses. These enterprises are true exemplars of the power of branding, showcasing how it can authentically reflect cultural heritage, values, and aspirations. Among these businesses are Cheekbone Cosmetics, Satya Organics, Sahtu Adventures Inc., and Manitobah Mukluks. These Indigenous-owned businesses served as living examples, illustrating how a well-crafted brand identity can positively influence consumer perceptions and foster business success, just as effectively as they capture the essence of their respective cultures and communities.
• Inspirational Quotes: As part of our curriculum, we provided students with invaluable insights from industry leaders. We drew inspiration from powerful quotes that underscored the significance of design and branding in the business world. One such quote is, “Design is the silent ambassador of your brand,” attributed to Paul Rand. Additionally, we shared the wisdom of Jeff Bezos, who famously stated, “A brand is what people say about your business when you’re not in the room.” These quotes served as guiding principles, illuminating the profound impact of branding on a business’s reputation and emphasizing the enduring importance of a well-crafted brand identity.

Impact and Results

Our goal was to inspire and equip these entrepreneurial students with the knowledge and skills to create impactful brand identities and understand that branding extends far beyond a logo. We aimed to instill in them the idea that a brand actively influences how people perceive a business, product, or service, even when the business isn’t directly present.

The Branding Journey

In 2009, our creative journey with AC Petroleum began, marking the inception of their distinctive logo that has since become an iconic symbol. At that time, AC Petroleum was in need of a visual identity to set them apart in the competitive petroleum industry. Drawing inspiration from their values and brand personality, we meticulously crafted a logo in a striking combination of carmine red and black. This choice of colors not only exuded boldness and power but also resonated with the essence of their business. The resulting design was streamlined and versatile, featuring the prominent AC icon alongside the company name. Over the years, this logo has gracefully adapted to represent various sub-categories such as AC Gas and AC Propane, consistently maintaining the same lettering choices, ensuring that it remains instantly recognizable even from a distance. AC Petroleum’s branding journey has indeed been a testament to the enduring power of a well-crafted logo.

The Digital Revolution

Fast forward to 2019, AC Petroleum recognized the importance of a strong online presence. We designed and developed a responsive website, built on a Content Management System (CMS) platform, the site allowed AC Petroleum to easily update content in-house.

In collaboration with Amplify Marketing, we recently developed a comprehensive brand style guide for Ario Construction Ltd. Here’s why a brand style guide is invaluable:

• Consistency: It ensures that Ario Construction’s visual identity remains consistent across all mediums, from digital to print.

• Professionalism: It conveys professionalism and attention to detail, reinforcing their reputation for excellence.

• Efficiency: The guide streamlines design and marketing efforts, making it easier to create cohesive and impactful materials.

The primary objective of the “Love Pemberton, Buy Local” campaign was to encourage the community to continue supporting their local businesses during the uncertain times of the pandemic. The campaign sought to:

1. Raise awareness about the importance of shopping locally.
2. Foster a sense of community unity.
3. Promote economic recovery for Pemberton’s businesses.

Creative Collaboration

Under the leadership of Meredith Kemp, the Chamber of Commerce partnered with Sumire Design to bring this campaign to life. Together, we developed a comprehensive set of visual elements that would resonate with the community and effectively convey the message of supporting local businesses.

Campaign Highlights

Main Graphic: The centerpiece of the campaign was a visually striking main graphic that served as a symbol of unity and community spirit. This graphic was prominently displayed throughout Pemberton to catch the attention of residents and visitors alike.

Marketing Collateral: To further promote the campaign and its message, we designed a range of marketing collateral, including:

• Tote Bags: These reusable bags became walking billboards, encouraging people to shop locally wherever they went.
• Posters for Local Businesses: Eye-catching posters were created for local businesses to display in their storefronts, emphasizing the importance of buying local.
• Stickers: Vibrant stickers featuring the campaign’s branding were distributed to businesses and community members to spread the word.
• Floor Stickers: These unique decals were placed strategically in stores to remind shoppers to support local businesses while maintaining social distancing.
• Site Signage: Signs with the campaign’s branding were placed at key locations to remind everyone to “Love Pemberton, Buy Local.”
• T-Shirts: Custom-designed T-shirts were available for purchase, allowing community members to proudly wear their support for local businesses.

Distribution and Community Engagement

To ensure the campaign’s success, the Pemberton Chamber of Commerce actively engaged with the community. They distributed the campaign materials, including stickers, window decals, posters, and floor decals, directly to businesses. Additionally, the Visitor Info Centre served as a hub for community members to pick up campaign materials while supplies lasted.

Social Media Engagement

The campaign leveraged the power of social media to reach a wider audience. Local businesses were encouraged to participate by sharing posts and thanking the community for their support. This social media engagement helped amplify the message and build a stronger sense of community.
