<p style="color: #111111;"><span style="color: black;">Attendance is taken daily for each class. It is required that a parent document an absence, late arrival, or early departure for his/her son or daughter, including students enrolled in enrichment courses.</span></p>
<p style="color: #111111;"><em><span style="color: black;">Summer Reading:</span></em><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp;</span>Due to the brief nature of the summer session and the academic standards Loyola strives to maintain, there is a strict attendance requirement for Loyola students taking summer reading. Students are allowed to miss only three class meetings. Students who miss four or more meetings will not get credit for the class. Students who are tardy six or more times are liable to lose academic credit for the summer session and are subject to dismissal.</span></p>

Notification via e-mail will not be accepted.</span></p>

Notification via e-mail will not be accepted. Students who must leave the school grounds for any reason during the school day must check out with the main office before leaving.</span></p>
<p style="color: #111111;"><strong><span style="color: black;">Parent Out of Town:</span></strong><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp;</span>If the parent will be out of town or will be leaving the student with another person other than the parent, the main office needs to be notified in writing in advance as to who is the temporary guardian and where that person can be reached during the school day.</span></p>
<p style="color: #111111;"><span style="color: black;">If a student becomes ill at school, the student must report to the main office to determine if he/she needs to go home. The main office will call the parent to obtain permission for the student to go home or to make arrangements for the student to be picked up. It is expected that every student will dress according to reasonable standards of decency, mindful of the academic nature of the environment.  Personal appearance and attire is expected to be neat and clean.  Students should err on the side of modesty and good taste.  Dress code infractions may result in being sent home for the day.</p>
<p><strong>Dress code for female students: </strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Attire must be modest and in good taste, not excessively revealing.   <ol>
<li>No excessively low-cut tops, shirts, pants, or shorts.  No bare midriffs.  No backless shirts.  No ripped, torn, or excessively tight or baggy clothing.  No tube tops.  No strapless tops.  No halter-tops.  Shirts must have two straps.  Undergarments of any kind must not be exposed. </li>
<li>No clothes that suggest gang affiliation. </li>
</ol></li>
<li>Two pair of moderate earrings (two earrings per ear) on the earlobe only.  No other body piercing jewelry is allowed. </li>
<li> Hair must remain its natural color.  No dyeing, tinting, bleaching, or artificial lightening. </li>
<li>Shoes must be secured at the toe and heel as provided by the manufacturer (i.e. <strong>no flip-flops or sandals</strong>).  Shoes must be worn at all times. </li>
<li>Hats may be worn to school but not in any building or classroom. </li>
</ol>

<p>In all matters of appearance, the summer session administration reserves the final judgment.</p>]]></content></entry><entry><title>Norms of Student Conduct</title><category term="Norms of Student Conduct"/><category term="Policies and Procedures"/><id>http://www.loyolahs.edu/summer-school-about/2010/12/15/norms-of-student-conduct.html</id><link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://www.loyolahs.edu/summer-school-about/2010/12/15/norms-of-student-conduct.html"/><author><name>Katherine Cullen</name></author><published>2010-12-15T22:44:00Z</published><updated>2010-12-15T22:44:00Z</updated><content type="html" xml:lang="en-US"><![CDATA[<p>The administration and faculty of Loyola High School have a definite respect for each individual student, as well as a keen awareness that each individual must function within a social and academic community.&nbsp; It is the student&rsquo;s responsibility to conduct himself/herself in a manner that contributes to a positive school environment.&nbsp; Norms of student conduct are intended to provide the good order that is indispensable for the serious pursuit of academic excellence and for the high moral tone expected at Loyola High School.&nbsp; Also, these norms or procedures are intended to assist in achieving the necessary balance between freedom and restraint.&nbsp; As such, observance of these norms will put demands on a student&rsquo;s self control and his/her growth toward maturity.<br /><br />The registration of a student in the summer session at Loyola High School is an express agreement on the part of your son or daughter and you as parents or guardians to observe these procedural norms.&nbsp; The school administration reserves the right to review unsatisfactory conduct and, if deemed justified, the school administration has the right to dismiss or suspend.&nbsp; In such a case, the tuition is nonrefundable.&nbsp; The knowledge and observance of these norms is expected of every student enrolled in Loyola&rsquo;s summer session.</p>]]></content></entry><entry><title>Student Decorum</title><category term="Norms of Student Conduct"/><category term="Policies and Procedures"/><id>http://www.loyolahs.edu/summer-school-about/2010/12/15/student-decorum.html</id><link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://www.loyolahs.edu/summer-school-about/2010/12/15/student-decorum.html"/><author><name>Katherine Cullen</name></author><published>2010-12-15T22:42:00Z</published><updated>2010-12-15T22:42:00Z</updated><content type="html" xml:lang="en-US"><![CDATA[<p>A student is expected to cooperate by observing the rules of discipline both in and out of the classroom in order to promote a positive school environment. The basic rule of student conduct is to maintain the good order necessary for the serious pursuit of academic and athletic achievement and for the high moral tone expected at Loyola High School.</p>
<p><strong>Grounds for fines:</strong><br />Students are liable to pay fines for, but not limited to, any of the following:</p>
<ol>
<li>Damage to school property, including books (amount determined by actual damage or replacement cost). </li>
<li>Improper or illegal parking ($10.00). </li>
<li>Use of razor and shaving cream ($1.00). </li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Grounds for disciplinary action: </strong><br />Students are liable for disciplinary action for, but not limited to, any of the following infractions:</p>
<ol>
<li>Leaving campus for any reason without permission from the Office of the Dean.  No teacher is allowed to give permission to a student to leave campus without prior approval of the Dean. </li>
<li>Truancy. Missing class. </li>
<li>Profanity anywhere on campus. </li>
<li>Littering. </li>
<li>Gambling.</li>
<li>Unacceptable attire or appearance. </li>
<li>Receiving a discipline referral from a teacher. </li>
<li>Being asked to leave any class because of disturbance. </li>
<li>Running, chasing, or wrestling on school grounds. </li>
<li>Not following the directions of the security staff at any time. </li>
<li>Eating or drinking in a school building or classroom. </li>
<li>Chewing gum anywhere on campus. </li>
<li>Any other minor conduct violations for which a student is referred to the dean of summer session. </li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Grounds for suspension: </strong><br />Students are liable to be suspended for, but not limited to, any of the following:</p>
<ol>
<li>Verbal, written, or electronically transmitted messages and/or physical behavior of a racist or prejudiced nature.  Students who continue racist and/or prejudiced behavior are liable for dismissal. </li>
<li> Fighting, bullying, or the threat of physical violence. </li>
<li>Throwing anything on campus that could cause injury or damage.</li>
<li>Excessive speed on or near campus and/or reckless driving (the speed limit on campus is 5 m.p.h. at all times).</li>
<li> Possession or use of tobacco (smoking, vaping, or chewing) on campus or within two blocks of the school. </li>
<li>Possession of pornographic materials including any inappropriate materials accessed over the Internet or electronically transmitted. </li>
<li>Use of technological devices to record or distribute photographs, video, audio, messages or conversations of Loyola personnel or students without their consent. </li>
<li>Damage to school property (i.e. graffiti, removing school locks). </li>
<li>Cheating. </li>
<li>Three (3) infractions during the summer session. </li>
<li>Any other action deemed serious by the dean of summer session. </li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Grounds for dismissal: </strong><br />Students are liable for dismissal from Loyola High School Summer Session for, but not limited to the following:</p>
<ol>
<li>Possession of, or being under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or any other form of dangerous and illegal drugs (i.e. federally controlled). </li>
<li> Stealing. </li>
<li> Destruction of school property. </li>
<li>Flagrant insubordination or disobedience. </li>
<li>Use or possession of firecrackers or similar devices. </li>
<li>Two suspensions during the summer session. </li>
<li>Any type of continual or repeated harassment of a verbal and/or physical nature, regardless of when or where such action takes place. </li>
<li>Possessing or handling any object that can reasonably be considered a weapon of any kind. </li>
<li>Serious or chronic infraction of the rules of Loyola High School. </li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Electronic Devices </strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Students may only use their cell phones before school, during the recess, during the lunch break, and after school if they are outside of a building.  During the times when cell phone use is not permitted, cell phones must be silent and kept out of sight.  A cell phone will be confiscated if it used while inside a building, during passing periods, sounds in class, or if it is used for inappropriate reasons. </li>
<li>Laser pointers and pens or other devices with laser pointers are prohibited.</li>
