<p>Beginning sewing is for students who want to be exposed to the basics of hand and machine stitching. This class will pique students&rsquo; interest in basic sewing skills, designing, and creativity.  Students will learn basic hand and machine stitching, create projects that practice basic sewing skills, by hand and on the machine, learn how to sew a variety of stitches used in basic sewing, and design and create their own patterns using measuring and problem-solving skills.</p>

<p>This is a three-tiered, multi-material design workshop.&nbsp; First, it will introduce the elements of clay slab and sculptural techniques, including a &ldquo;fantasy head&rdquo; and a primitive mask.&nbsp; Various glazing applications will be used.&nbsp; Next, the student will create a unique, multilevel, three-dimensional collage using paper products and found objects.&nbsp; In the final project, a design will be researched and transformed into a broken tile mosaic. This workshop will teach design basics, color coordination, and the use of many art materials.&nbsp; Texturing, form, and craftsmanship will be emphasized.&nbsp; Materials are included.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This beginning course focuses on using the elements of design (line, color, shape, texture, volume, and space) to communicate both artistically and emotionally.&nbsp; The class intends to build fundamental visual perception through direct creative practice.&nbsp; It challenges the student-artist to work outside of the academic parameters of art instruction and to &ldquo;play&rdquo; with materials in order to achieve a richer product and more fulfilling and educational experience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Darkroom photography is not dead! It is live and well at LHS! Please join us this summer for an extensive overview of film processing, darkroom printmaking and proper camera use as a means for shooting and creating artistic, thought provoking photographic images. Students will learn basic composition techniques, proper camera use (lens focal length, shutter speed and aperture manipulation), film processing and darkroom print processing. Through this course, students will be able to have a strong grasp on traditional film photography that will also lead into a digital photography. Come join us!&nbsp; <strong>Students must bring their own 35mm SLR film camera and TMAX 400 black and white film.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Tired of over and underexposed digital photographs? Feel like giving up on your attempts to learn Photoshop? Would you like to learn how to add more detail, contrast and color balance to your images? Please join us this summer for a foundational overview of digital photography and Photoshop CS3 software. Students will learn basic composition techniques, proper camera use (lens focal length, shutter speed and aperture manipulation), file formats, ISO settings and light balance. Through this course, students will be able to learn how to correct contrast, color balance, gray scale balance, abstract and manipulate images and photo collage layering techniques. Come join us in creating artistic, thought provoking photographic images!&nbsp; <strong>Students must bring their own 35mm Digital SLR camera. Canon or Nikon preferred.&nbsp;</strong></p>
