It will cover the period of time primarily from 1830-2015, as well as a brief examination of claims of its origin earlier in history.&nbsp; In this course, students will become familiar with the origins of the game, its growth throughout rural communities of the country, the establishment of governing bodies within the sport, and the major players who helped shape the game. On a larger scale, students will be able to identify how baseball helped shape the United States, interpret specific baseball events, and to relate them to the concurrent historical events.&nbsp; Students will think critically and will formulate logical personal conclusions as to how the sport has impacted United States society based on historical texts as well as eyewitness accounts.</p>

<p>Big History is an interdisciplinary class that merges science, history, and philosophy. The class has students investigate the varieties of scientific models that developed with regards to the beginnings of the universe. The students then analyze the ways that humans have interacted with each other from the earliest civilizations to modern times. The students also look at a variety of ways that humans have developed their knowledge about their universe and their various societies. The class would have students create projects about the nature of the universe, methods of knowledge and human interactions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This course will help students gain a head start in learning the skills needed for success in the AP World History course. This is a hybrid online/traditional class. Students will begin to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the AP environment, and ultimately on the AP Exam which is administered each May.&nbsp; The course will focus on learning to think critically, form original arguments, write historical essays, analyze primary source documents, and identify evidence. The purpose of the class is to provide incoming sophomores who are enrolled in APWH, help with the transition into the college level challenges of the Advanced Placement classroom and curriculum. While emphasis will be on skill development, the course will use content and resources recommended by the College Board.  Classes begin on June 22nd and meet on Thursdays only.</p>

<p>This class will study the causes, the course,&nbsp; and the implications of&nbsp; World War II.&nbsp; It will handle most of the geographic areas involved, the major diplomatic, political and military events, and some of the key figures of the war.&nbsp; It covers the time period of 1918 to 1945, with an emphasis on the years 1939-1945. In this course, students will be able to acquire a perspective on attempts to understand the human experience and the factors that shape human activity, particularly in time of war; develop critical thinking through the study of diverse interpretations of historical events and gain the ability to evaluate the worth of historical analogies when applied to contemporary affairs; apply critical thinking through historical analysis of secondary sources; that is to say, sources that interpret historical events based on study of primary (e.g., eyewitness) accounts; and to illuminate larger patterns in the human past. Students will sharpen communications skills in exams, papers, and discussions.&nbsp;</p>
