Hammerstein Ballroom - BECK!!

Last night I went to see Beck in concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. They put on a great show; we had a lot of fun. I got as close as I could without getting hit by people and took some video clips...if your a Beck fan watch this...it was amazing!!

Last minute I decided to go to the Red Sox/Yankees game at Yankees Stadium. It was a great game...even though the Red Sox should've won. I took some pictures and clips so..here it is!

Outhink Recap

I'm Rachel Toole and I started working for Outhink in June. I immediately began working with Markus Sandy, creator of Apperceptions. Markus had been vidoeblogging since May and since then has become an important part of the videoblogging community. He sent me to look at popular and innovative videobloggers such as Ryanne Hodson, Michael Verdi, and Jay Dedman. After being inspired by various videos, I was given an assignment to set up a blog.

I went to www.blogspot.com in order to create a blogger account and it was incredibly simple. After following three quick steps I had my own blog, www.summerspin.blogspot.com. I then began to look at programs such as flickr, which allows people to upload, organize, and post pictures onto blogs. It's a great site because you can also check out how many people have viewed your photos and receive comments.

After a few posts it was time to post my first video online for the Outhink website. After filming Dave Toole, CEO of Outhink, I uploaded the video and edited it using iMovie. I was then recommended to check out freevlog created by Ryanne Hodson and Michael Verdi. It is a great site that provides video tutorials on setting up a blog, creating Internet Archive and OurMedia accounts, posting video online, becoming a part of the videoblogging community and more...

Finally, Spinflow is what brought all of these components together. Spinflow is the fine art of moving digital media; its directed towards creative professionals who spend time focusing on their passions. I was able to use SpinXpress to share files with other videobloggers and watched as they used SpinXpress to collaborate on projects. The whole point of SpinXpress is to cater to creative professionals and open a new range of collaborative resources.

Hopefully this video will help people who are interested in setting up a blog or want to become a part of the videoblogging community. Work has ended and I am back in New York for school, but I am constantly looking out for new videos and hope to continue publishing myself. This community is rapidly growing and the videos truly are incredible...so I encourage everyone to at least check it out...I assure you will be inspired!

Leaving California

Summer is over...I just set up my place in New York, on the opposite side of the country, and I'm getting ready for sophmore year. Spending the summer at home in California was amazing; I put together some pictures and short clips of the past few months just so I will always have the memories. Hopefully, I will have the time to post vlogs while I'm here in New York, until then....enjoy!

This weekend videobloggers Ryanne Hodson, Jay Dedman, and Michael Verdi came to California to attend the BlogHer Conference in Santa Clara. They arrived on Friday and we immediately took them to our hometown, Los Gatos, for lunch. Saturday was BlogHer and it was incredible to see everyone come out with enthusiasm, innovative ideas, and laptops. This is a short video on some of my experiences...

BlogHer is a network for women bloggers to draw on for more knowledge of blogging and video blogging. There is going to be a day-long conference on July 30, 2005 in which women bloggers join together to learn more about this industry and connect with the blogging community. There are going to be great presentations such as Ryanne Hodson's. "BlogHer Session:Meet your Audio/Video Gurus" in which she will introduce us to the world of vlogging (video blogging). This online hub initiates an opportunity for women to learn how to successfully use blogging to its fullest potential.

It is important for women to have access to blogging/ vlogging because it is one of the greatest ways to communicate with people online. Women bloggers have the opportunity to create posts-whether personal, political, or controversial- and then get feedback from the blogging community. Women have a history of being suppressed and blogging gives women the optimal opportunity to get their voices heard.

Outhink is sponsoring Renegade who is the creator of Luxomedia and The Green Thing. Outhink is sponsoring her because she is utilizing the freedoms that blogging gives to women. She is constantly posting and creating video blogs to voice herself and her community. I will be there and hope to learn more about what I can accomplish through blogging and also come face to face with other women bloggers from across the country.

I would love to see women like Heidi Roizen at this conference. Roizen's career has included being an entrepreneur, CEO, large corporation executive, and venture capitalist to leading technology companies. Someone who has made such an impact and has so much experience in the technology industry would be a perfect candidate for this conference. It's important for Heidi to attend because as a women in the technology industry she has built an exceptional reputation and could influence other women bloggers to get involved. Not only is she knowledgeable about the industry, but she focus's on companies who use technology to reach and provide solutions to merchants or retailers to better help serve their customers...something Outhink is constantly trying to do.

Hello everyone! Last week I was in Cabo, Mexico therefore there hasn't been a recent post. I downloaded some of my pictures from Mexico using Flickr so I could show everyone just how beautiful it was there. This is a picture of a really fun restaurant on the beach called "The Office." More pictures from Cabo can be seen on my flickr account. I also made my first vlog which I intend to post as soon as possible.

In order to post pictures on my blog I needed to download a program called Flickr. Flickr is a quick and easy way to store, share, and organize photos. People can make comments, and use the photos to post blogs. I used a picture of my friends at New Years to see how easy it was to use.

I also was directed to check out a site called del.icio.us. del.icio.us is a bookmark manager- People create a list of sites and categorize them with keywords (tags). I was able to bookmark interesting sites of Creative Professionals and then share them with others.

Video Blogging

I have just downloaded a program called ANT. This is a system that makes it easy to download and watch video blogs. Its interesting to watch other people's home made videos and have the chance to comment on them. Today I have been focusing on blogging, commenting, video blogs, and ANT. Creating your own personal blog is a great way to get into all of this new technology. SpinXpress is another great way to easily share blogs and vlogs and I can't wait to even further advance this process. After that hopefully we can create a fusion of technology and music/video/art to spark creativity and inspire people to use these programs.

I was thinking about how blogging is different from creating a personal website in which people create their own templates and there is no specific format. Blogging is also completely open to the public as opposed to more defined communities. Facebook for instance is a great way for college students to communicate and get to know each other better. I think it would be interesting if there were more pre-defined groups within blogging. Maybe a public and private blog for each person or some way in which people can post to a specific type of creative professional. If I were showing my art or had some sort of graphic design related question I wouldn't necessarily want just ANY opinion- I would want a professional graphic designer to assist me. Is it possible to create communities within larger communities through blogging?

SpinFlow Experiences

Using Outhink I've been able to access various blogs and read about what is up and coming with creative professionals. Most of the vlogs have been easy to upload and interesting to view although some did not download successfully. Creating this blog has been fun and the steps were simple but I'm wondering how this blog differentiates from other personalized websites such as MySpace and TheFacebook and what kind of community can be built through using this specific approach?
