I do have my my favorite black house sweater on. It’s covered in cat hair. I plan on wearing it tonight at the show with my usual mom half bun hair with the split-ends stickin’ out. I’m hoping it will work for me as there is so much white cat hair on it , it should glow nicely under the black lights. If everything continues to go my way, as in going to the show in my comfy clothes and standing out in the black lights, then I have a chance of having my dream come true where Davey from AFI sees me out there in the audience.

My dream come true will happen where he hones in on me with the spotlight and our eyes connect. Awwww yeAH! babeY! He be like “Hey little miss murder…. [insert Davey scream here]HoOOOOOOeeeeeW!…”

But then knowing my life, my dream come true will quickly become my worst nightmare where he be like,
”What song do you want me to play for you?” and all I can reply is … “..I don’t know the name of any songs”….crying my ass off …..sniiff.

Even tho I have listened to every song for over a decade in a half a million times.. Yeeeeeesh. I guess I could always just wish him a happy birthday through my tears. My three tears I will shedding. Along with the cat hair on my sweater.

What is special about this show is that it’s a family outing with my daughter and her fiancé. My son was going to be there too but he is in the USU marching band and can not make it. I just love it! Family and AFI.

Oh yes! We are going to hold another fundraiser. This time it is going to be for my son Alex’s dad, Brian. Alex recently told us that his dad has been diagnosed with Colorectal cancer. This hit home with Alex as he, himself just battled cancer in 2019. Alex was diagnosed with Large B-cell Type Lymphoma, a rare type of cancer that was a stage 3 for size, and location. It was a mediastinal mass the size of his heart sitting on top of his heart and slowly pinching off the windpipe. He underwent 90 hours of chemotherapy every two weeks for six months and then two months of radiation. Alex is healthy today and we are very grateful!

With Alex being a college student and really not in a position to make a donation, he naturally wants to help anyway because it is his dad. Instead of trying to budget out a donation Alex wants to put his talents to work. With the help of family and friends he hopes to raise a donation to the utmost of his abilities. I am proud that my son wants to do this and of coarse, we (myself and his step-dad) are more than happy to help.

Over the next several weeks I will be promoting the performers, musicians, artists and friends who have graciously donated their time and their talents to help make our upcoming show super awesome. Thank you all for sharing with us. Also, a big thank you to those donating to our spectacular prize drawing!

Little disclaimer: After 27 years of belly dancing; I am not a qualified teacher, educator, or certified instructor of the subject, but I am a belly dancer who can share my experience, opinions and comments on the matter. I have danced with many great people in this community and in others. I had one of the greatest mentors (Revonda) to help build my foundation and I have learned from my unique and wonderful sister dancers that I have danced with in past and today. I have taken some of the most inspiring workshops from the some the best instructors in the belly dance world. We continue to do so.

I have had the opportunities to dance with live bands, talented drummers and belly dancers. I have danced at cultural weddings and unique weddings, I have had regular restaurant gigs, haflas, parties, special guest appearances, fundraisers, festivals and workshops. I have made new friends, I have lost friends, and as always there is a bit of drama. Please do not confuse the new podcast show as not a belly dance show. It is! All of us belly dancers have lives outside of the subject and we are here to have fun, make friends and share their art, talent, hobbies, and stories we may not know. Of coarse give us all the dirt! Tell us something we don’t know. Haha. Fuck it ! It is the best therapy to just tell everyone!

That would be the most bad ass line up of music genres every week with Tony, our SDBD co-host. He has his own music commentary show that is found only on our podcast SDBD. He is a certified, bona fide, vinyl record appraiser of the dark and rare. An experienced radio personality and musicologist. And a really good friend of mine. Biggest thank you TonY! For helping me get this started and sharing your talent with us.

The Plans for 2021:

#1- Next year we are planning for a second Goddess Gala fundraising project! More info to come.

#2- We have some really fun plans to feature the unique and interesting lives of our “belly” friends and “friend” friends. We are working on a new (awkward) podcast. “We” is myself and a good friend of mine from Carbon County, his name is Tony. It will be us (Tony and I), hosting along with my belly troupe sister Tina B.

Because everyone has a story. Everyone has a story and dream or a passion and we would love to hear more about them. We want to showcase some of their hidden talent and art. We want to share some of their stories or thoughts and opinions. We plan on doing this remotely.

In addition to that we will be incorporating a feature YouTube or Vimeo channel so that our belly dancers or other unique guests will be able to perform or demonstrate their talents or art. Kind of like an “a la carte” for some of the podcast interviews

Thank you Tony! Seriously! Not only because he lives in CA but because he will be delivering the technical and musical mastery as well. I now have a team that has motivated me! I literally have a fire under my ass and a fire inside all at the same time! Haha! OH LAWRd! what I am I doing?? Anyhow this shit will either crash or burn and your welcome to watch my social/reputational suicide. LmFaO!!!!! sigh.

This is the last blog update for 2020! Whew. In my next blog I will tell you how “Shoog” got her “Boo” back! Crazy story. And right now I have to get back to my real job as house manager, mom and wife. I have to make sure I am first in line at liquor store and chain of other errands. The cat is making me get special food too, if not she has threatened to starve herself. I don’t know how the hell the cats do that. There is no way my dog would boss me around like that!

I have yet another update about it. I would have posted one sooner, but after the last 6 months I thought it would be relaxing to walk out into the desert, lay down, and try to die. That ended up taking too long, the dying part. At least it was refreshing; comparatively.

The goddess pictures I used throughout the Goddess Gala blog promos were taken from one of my favorite coffee table books, GODDESS A Celebration in Art and Literature; edited by Jalaja Bonheim.

The first annual Goddess Gala 2020 turned out to be a hell of a safe fundraiser event! Small crowd, outside, masks, temps, social distancing to the max! It was fun, delicious, we raised donations and cash for the Christmas Box House. It was challenging but we did it. I think we will be doing another one next year!

The whole team was awesome! Thank you to the performers and the audience for participating!

Thank you to all of our super sweet artists and businesses who donated kick ass prizes for our candy drawing! Hell YA!

These folks just need something to do. Instead of joining them, join us for a beautiful evening of goddesses and giving. This Saturday there is a spectacular fundraising event happening! It is outside and there is limited entrance! Message us, Sun DeLarge, for more info!

We are helping the kids at the Christmas Box House to have a better quality of life and get through this tough year. These are children who have been taken out of their home because of abuse or neglect. Some have to spend the rest of their childhood in foster care. Some have no choice but to be there because the situation is between other members of family. Which means they have to be removed from the environment they know, friends, bedrooms, pets, toys and games and more in order to be cared for and protected.

Those are some examples and others are teenage homelessness or runaways. Maybe you have heard of the Youth Services? I certainly know that place. I know what a foster home is too, first hand. The Youth Services is next to the Christmas Box House and they are connected.

Please help out by bringing a new item to donate when you come to see the divine performances of Utah’s most inspiring muses! Check out this WISH LIST for the kids in Salt Lake City. Also, we will be raising money during the show by selling candies where 100% proceeds go the the charity!

This event is limited and outdoors. Social distancing guidelines are in place. We know you do not need a babysitter to social distance but we do have tape down for lines, sanitizer and Clorox wipes. We have licensed and certified people for the proper serving of food and drink. We have masks if you want one and we will take your temperature at the door. True it was a looser fit but it’s coming back in a tighter way.

We are getting down to the last week before the Goddess Gala! So I gotta bust out a couple of quick blogs. I have a way awesome dancer here to feature! Do we know Rue Day?? Or, do we know Rue Day? Truth be it,… know one will ever really know the real Rue Day! She is Mystery, she is Mischief (wink wink), and she is MAHrvelous DAHling! An absolute marvelous dancer!

If you know Rue or me, or Whirlwinds history…heh heh. Then you know Rue and me have been through some shiz, but not as much shiz as other past members have experienced. Let’s call it “good times”. Yes, enough time has passed to say that.

Rue and me have this thing where we dance together and then we don’t. Somehow we end up dancing together. It’s just weird how it works. lol. I will say this though: Rue is a really, really good dancer and we are honored to have her perform at the very first Goddess Gala fundraiser! We are super excited to summon the energies of all of the goddesses to perform! Let’s bring the magic and raise some money for the kids at The Christmas Box House! We have some spectacular prizes and many candies to be sold!

Okay! Here we have a very special treat! It is very rare to see this beautiful belly dancer perform so we are honored to have the one and only SULTRA giving us her take on the Germanic goddess Frigg, wife of god Odin. Guaranteed this dancer will surely take you away to another world when she performs!

We will have the super awesome pro ISIS! I have watched this dancer perform since I have been dancing! Definitely pro belly dancer here! Although Isis and I have seen each other at so many of the classic belly dance venues over the past 26+ years, we just recently became Facebook friends! Yay! All of us belly dancers have a special bond no matter what though!

And we all love Angie of Gacelas! She will be doing a solo and she is bringing her Gacelas too! We will see them both! Did anyone know that Angie performed with Whirlwinds of Brogla? It was the last dance that Whirlwinds went out with, and we went out with a BaNg!

An outdoor gathering of the goddess dinner show! Come and watch the divine performances of Utah’s most inspiring muses! All social guidelines are in place with our food service. We will have masks if you want or need one, and there is plenty of room to social distance. You could watch the show 20 - 30 feet away if you want.

This is a fundraiser event! We invite everyone to bring a new item for the kids from the WISH LIST they have made and help us fill the giant box. Receipts will be given for these items.

We have a Candy Drawing! Really great prizes! For every candy you buy, you are automatically entered into the drawing, for every five candies you get one extra free entry! The new date for the Goddess Gala is August 8th! The location will be at the Sugar Space Arts Warehouse. It will be held outside on the new patio stage that is being built. This will make social distancing easier. Also, we will have yellow tape on the ground where needed to help remind us of 6 ft. We have all of the guidelines in place. We will take temperatures at the entrance and we have disposable masks if anyone wants one. We are ready to hold this event safely.

Yes this has been challenging. Trying to initiate a fundraising event this year has turned into a learning experience. I figure if this “change” does turn out to be the “new” way and everyone has to “relearn” how to conduct business according to guidelines and safety, then I would have to start somewhere anyways.

At this event we will be raising money and taking new item donations for the Christmas Box International. We will fill the box with new items needed from the kids WISH LIST.

We will be having a candy drawing. With every candy purchase you are automatically entered into a special prize drawing! We have some really great prizes and a super epic line-up. Check out our Facebook event page under the Discussions tab to see some of the great performers and candy prizes.

Not only is this the time of year they could use more donations, but this year has been especially hard.

The toys, clothes and other donations, especially monetary, help these kids to have a better life than the circumstances they happen to be in. They still want things like Barbie, Lego, Apple, Nike, Adidas, and what ever else their peers happen to be doing or wearing these days. It is hard to fit in, it is hard to be social in this day and age, and it is even harder if you don’t have a real home. The money helps let these kids enjoy some of the experiences they are missing out on and helps them to lead a better quality of life.

They won’t be kids for very long and they can not have that childhood stolen from them. Once an adult, we all know that time, money, responsibility, routines and work, is what it is there on forward. Being a kid is the only time that magic is true, imagination creates dreams, personality and character begin to shape… it is precious time. Like their motto says: Every child deserves a childhood.

Here is another featured performance! It is Sirens of Osiris! Fate and Asteria! A duet! A beginning belly dance troupe who dabble in the darkness of the underworld. A Spooky twist on belly dance with the accent on horror!

Fate and Asteria are Sirens of Osiris! (…side note, Fate is my daughter Alisia!)

Alex Rottlaender will be performing at the gala as our pre-show and dinner accompaniment. We are honored to have him and he will begin as soon as the doors open. As a busker he certainly appreciates gratuity and he is donating 100% of his tips that evening to the Christmas Box House.

(Side note #2, Alex is my son!)

It will be a super fantastic fundraiser for the Christmas Box House.

Don’t forget to dress up. Even though it is a smaller outside event, you can always wear Crocs with that little black dress, or sequins!

I myself do not teach belly dance classes, but I get asked that question all of the time. I literally see a pattern of sadness when people find out at first, that no, I do not teach belly dance classes. Then I see some happiness when I tell them that we welcome anyone to join our troupe no matter what level of experience. Then comes the sadness again when I tell them that it is not “tribal” style and that it is more on the “cabaret” side. Then they look super sad when I bust out the wings, masks, and capes! And that is why we still only have two in our troupe.

I do have the connection to the bomb diggity of tribal style and that would be Amina! She is a certified teacher of the ATS (American Tribal Style) and Salt City Studio is a certified partner studio to the world famous FCBD!

Might I add that she has donated the sweetest gift basket ever to the Christmas Box fundraiser. OMG! This is a practically a basket of gold (worth $140)! I don’t have to do the math out loud but I can count on my fingers (crossed), that purchasing a bag of candy at the fundraiser could make someone very happy. Actually, anyone who purchases a bag of candy that evening will be happy because 100% proceeds go to The Christmas Box International and that makes the kids there happy! Thank you so much Amina! For helping to spread the happiness at the gala!

Also donating to the fundraiser is some bad ass art work by Alyssia M! aka: Sinisterlore. Yes! Not your ordinary sinisterlore but the SINISTERLORE!

Holy Smokes Alyssia’s art is like getting a tattoo but not on your skin, so your kids and mom and boss won’t mind. I say that because her art is at “commission”. I just learned what that means in the art biz so I am hoping that I am using that term correctly. I think it means you request what you would like drawn, for example, a unicorn with fire for hair or something crazier! Whatever it may be she will make it happen. Just like a tattoo. What would you pick to have drawn up all bad ass? Think about it, she’s a gamer girl, she knows a character when she sees one.

These are only a few of her collections. I cant wait to see what piece she will be donating! How exciting! YAY! Thank you Alyssia M!

I did not know about this website or its promo on T.V. That is the sad thing about having over 100 friends on the FB. You never see everyone’s post. I don’t have very many friends on the FB and I still don’t see all of the posts. And all of my friends have 3000+ friends so they don’t even know I exist! But I sure wish I knew about this puppet magic before I did my kids birthday. That was the birthday where I promised myself no more birthday parties.

I remember seeing these puppets perform a long time ago and I did not know you could just call them up and arrange a show; for fun, for learning, for everyone! We are very happy that Puppets in the City has donated a puppet “duo” as a fabulous prize in our candy drawing for the Christmas Box International! Thank you! I can’t wait to see who gets to adopt these cute fellas!

I am absolutely honored to say Jenny Galvez of Abstract Art by Jenny Galvez is donating one of her dearest paintings to the Christmas Box House fundraiser! This is the Jenny who changed the statute of limitations on sexual assault in Utah. What is now known as Jenny’s Law. This woman did not give up the fight for justice! Please read her story. The Utah statute of limitations for rape used to be only four years! She changed that from four years to eight years, and not giving up that fight for justice, it is now changed to NO time limit! The bottom line is that we are having the event on July 11th. It does not matter if only 50 people go. What matters is we need to follow through with our promise to raise some money for these kids. If we are in need during this time then they are in need because they use the funds that are donated to them from us. Their need does not stop ever. Because children and young adults do not stop ever. 24/7 all year every year. The Christmas Box International. So whatever amount we raise is better than $0.

Kinda like Under-roos? My point is, maybe we should show a little more cheek. A Small Update: As of today’s date, I can have 50 people at my event . Which means it will be a small wonderful gathering. We still want to raise money for The Christmas Box International. Even with a small amount of people we can raise some money and get new item donations. It will be a practice event. In case I have another goddess gala next year. Ha. ha. Also funny will probably be our dinner situation at that point. It is catered, like a big door dash, and servers have their food handlers permits, but we just might have to serve food that is prepackaged and without eating utensils. Hopefully not, but I hope ya’ll like lunchables, smuckers pb&j’s, and chips? Channel the munchie goddess and you will.I am feeling optimistic that we will be able to have more than 50 people by then. The original limit is around 80 guests. With that being said, I will be sending email reminders for dancers to get their tickets. Don’t forget to dress up! The Christmas Box International is the charity we will be supporting at the Goddess Gala.

The Christmas Box International helps children and young adults who are taken out of abusive homes, or there are other domestic issues that make it hard for them to have a quality childhood. In other cases maybe they are runaways or maybe in and out of the juvenile system. Whatever the case may be, I am sure these kids like to have cool stuff. Please see the wish list and bring a new item with you to donate.

We have a “new” item donation drop box. Let us overfill the box with the things these kids need. Cool stuff! Stuff you would want your own kid to have. Or a kid you know. Some of them will be turning 18 soon and will not be able to stay in the system any longer. They will be faced with homelessness. Please do not forget to bring a new item with you for The Christmas Box International.

I know how hard it is to transition into adulthood when there is no foundation or structure growing up. Without those two things combined with domestic violence, or neglect, it is hard to have any quality of childhood. When I was 13 years old I ran away. I left from the July 24th parade and came home on Halloween. My mom thought I was dead. No one was really looking for me either (probably because we lived in the Housing Authority). But long stories short, between that time and 17 years old, I had been to the youth services many times, I was also in juvenile detentions from Oakland CA to Reno NV, from Blanding to SLC. And I stayed in this foster home where there was a peep-hole in the bathroom wall…um…ahem…yeah. (I will stop there). Sometimes foster homes are not a kids replacement home, they are other peoples homes, like strangers homes. Very uncomfortable, I chose to stay with friends after that lameness. That’s how I feel about that.

Older and younger kids will benefit from the Goddess Gala. The wish list is categorized into age groups. These Kids will get some of the things they need and we will raise money for them at this gala. They will get the cash donations they need for their activities, food and care.

To raise money for The Christmas Box International we will be selling candies. Candies of awesomeness! With every candy purchase you are automatically entered into one of the greatest prize drawings ever! We have had the most fabulous and giving people donate the most stellar prizes! So bring your cash! 100% candy cash goes to the charity!

In addition to that, our saxophone busker and bartender will be donating 100% of there tips to The Christmas Box International! Proceeds from beer sales will also go the charity!

So we should all dress up for this class act of community love! We recommend wearing your cocktail attire or Las Vegas best! Let’s overfill the new item donation box, buy lots of candies and beer, and watch Utah’s talented goddesses take our breath away!

Are you sick of hearing and reading about this Co- V? Here is something different to read about, my personal business. I suppose I will use this golden girl goddess title to publicly celebrate the new goddess within me, or is it without me? I don’t know, I just know my excuse is, or used to be… pre-meno’. Early menopause runs in my family and I guess that is what happened. I am and now full meno’. I can’t even type it out, it’s that crazy. I have busted out the last little egg a year ago. sniff. sad. NOT! Because some girls just wanna have fun and its a pain in the ass to deal with a period while having hot flashes and tyring to have fun all at the same time. So the sooner the better.

Are you cringing yet? Then I will wrap this up.

I get to say that the goddess of auntie Flo has officially moved out! Hell ya! And I actually started sleeping again. After 6 years of insomnia and night sweats I am finally normalizing. I had insomnia for so long; its crazy to say…but I think I miss it! Waking up at 2 AM and 3 AM every single night! Watching TV or driving around until 4 or 5 AM! That all turned out to be a lifestyle that I slowly adapted to. So it feels awkward to be going back to regular sleep and cool sheets. I kinda have to adapt back.

MmmmmHMM! I am ready to get my Blanche Devereaux on! yeeeees! “‘bout time!”

Ugh. I better stretch, I just tried to lift my leg and pulled somthing in my rib.

Speakin’ of Blanche, its time to get these girls a new bra to celebrate! And by these“girls” I am referring to what is under my Golden Girls goddess pajamas. As you can see in this pic why I named the “girls” Blanche and Rose. I just hope I don’t have to name them Dorthy and Sophia anytime soon…know what I mean?!

A super awesome donation drive for The Christmas Box International!

Inspired by our local annual events and bashes. We will be hosting a dinner/show. More details later. But fo sho the show will be held on July 11th 2020. Anyone not going to wedding on that weekend should come to our event and celebrate the summer solstice with us!

With that being said, anyone remember the Goddess Festival? It was held 19-20 years ago in Ogden at the Egyptian Theater? Well then! This is kind of like that. Goddess themed. Pick a goddess and let her be the inspiration for your performance piece! For more information please contact me! I have unique requests and information for any dancers or troupes who may interested in participating in this event. Save the date! Saturday, 07/11/2020. More information to come!

In time we will get to know more about Tina B the belly dancer. As for now, a brief intro: she is an ol’ school rocker babe and a mother of 4. All of them boys ranging between the ages of 27 and 17. This is not Tina B’s first belly dance rodeo. She has been belly dancing since 1999 when she took her first class from Tamar, a very experienced multi traditional style belly dancer. She has also danced with the beautiful Sultra and her troupe Tigris.

Tina had to stop dancing and focus on recovering from a stroke that she had. One that she had while she was belly dancing! She was dancing at the Cedars of Lebanon restaurant when it happened. Fortunately she had another dancer with her and she got help right away. Needless to say, she is strong, motivated and ready to get the shimmy back on! Thank you Tina for coming back to belly dance and choosing Sun D to share your time with!

This troupe has been enhanced even further now because of Tina B’s creative ideas and input! I kinda of knew she was going to have some good ideas when I found out she was a stylist at the Sola Salon Studios. Stylist are always creative and innovative. Extremely experienced , Tina has been been a hairstylist practically her whole life. She knew exactly what she wanted to do for her career since she was a little girl. She would style all of her Barbies hair and line them up in a row. (Just like they do in the RAW show, wink wink). Welcome Tina B!

This season we are both promoting the RAW Natural Born Artists show. Come out and walk the art gallery! Cocktail dress babey! Or Halloween costume this time! Join Us! It is 21+ at The Depot! This is a bulb growing in the gutter at my Jiffy Lube. There is even a fly on it. In the background is a building. It is the BCI (Bureau of Criminal Identification). You can get your concealed permit or check for warrants there. That is a beautiful place too because that is the first place you go before the long expensive journey to expunge your past records begins. And I would not be living the life I have now if I did not do that 10 years ago! Fresh and clean now. Sort of. I put a fresh mark on my record from that dumb incident at the Bad Religion show in 2012. Regardless, it is amazing we have the opportunity to erase some of our past. Only here in America! I am so thankful to be born in this beautiful free country! I am putting my flag out right now! No holiday needed to fly your USA flag when your feeling the love!

Introducing our new ray of sunshine! Tina! Tina has been in the belly dance scene as long as I have, maybe longer! We are very happy she can handle our levels of crazy! I mean creativity! There will be a little bio on her coming soon!

However, we are still at two members in our troupe. Rue Day is taking a small break to get her business and things in order and she will be back soon! She has been “back” three times already so we can probably count on a fourth time. We hope so because she is such a graceful and wonderful dancer and contributed some great ideas! She had the RAW Salt Lake crowd just freaked out with dancing excitement! It will be awesome when she returns!

Remember! We are always looking for “coachable” and “accountable” people to join our troupe. You can be as freaky weird as you want, you just gotta “Grover 2.0”. We meet for two hours at time around 3 times a month. We perform an average of 5 to 6 times a year with an out state episode maybe once a year. Being flexible is key.

With that being said, here we come Halloween!

Rue and I both had some crazy shit happening these past couple of months and Sun DeLarge only had 11 days to make our RAW dance. We literally met only 3 times for one hour each time! We worked hard because the show must go on and we were doing this gig no matter what! Also, we custom dyed and hand made the silk wings for the dance. In case the dance did not go over well we were relying on our fashion designed wings as our art piece.

The story behind those wings and our color pallet is as follows: We are channeling the universe. The heavens as we can see it through human eyes. With the ultra violet colors of new and dying stars. The heavenly bodies that make up the galaxy. Swirls of energy, black holes, comets, the twinkle of the stars! We are here in our bodies to see the beauty visually yet we are blind to our fate in the universe. If that was confusing, well then, that is why we would rather dance it out than talk about it.

In our last choreography with the Isis wings, we kind of channeled a different kind of heaven. A heaven that is in our hopes, hearts and souls. Filled with more of a spiritual energy inside of us. Our color pallet was angelic with white, silver, and gold.

We had a lot fun and we missed you! We wished you were there! Aside from the bartender being rude to Rue when she was trying to order her shot of Jaeger. For some reason he did not see the blindfolded women with silk wings beckoning him. This made her feel ignored and it made her have to holler at him to get his attention. He then took it the wrong way and got an attitude. And then she did not know it was more money than she had on her and he dumps it out in front of her. boo. She was only wearing her caped wings and blindfold because we were about to go on stage. Anyways, like I said, we totally had fun. We loved it. The art gallery, the line up, the booze, professional lighting, and the ‘professiona’l photographers, the booze, the staff and a killer sound system!

Big! Big! Big ass thank you for my daughter and her friends, Rue and her friends and family, and my Jerry and his friends! Thank you so much for getting tickets to this venue. We came out a ticket ahead! Can’t wait for the next show and hopefully we have some new members by then. yay

Peace Out my loveys! Yes! I am drinking 7.75% Squatters Hells Keep! That is how I get the ovaries to post shiz on this blog! Bah-der! Sometimes I regret it the next morning, BUT NOT THIS TIME! I mean everything I post tonight!.…XOxo! ….Have I ever told you how beautiful you are?…*hic-up*…actually, I better double check this tomorrow.

I made a lot of big promises about this new belly dance troupe for 2019. Not gonna lie, it has been hard to find the right fit for members. There have been many different and wonderful interpretations; and awesome ideas from the variety of dancers who have given our troupe a try. Thank you dancers!

We are still looking for new members and now that we have some experience with new dancers, we have narrowed down some key elements.

Some important things to help us find the right fit would be:

1) Eventually some crafting or sewing of your own costume or prop will happen with this troupe.

2) We think members might want to live in the Salt Lake valley because we only meet for one hour about three or four times a month and that is not fair to anyone who would have to drive an hour to meet for an hour.

3) Must be flexible enough to do shows out of town once or twice a year on top of our usual shows and maybe a few spontaneous shows spotted in between that schedule.

4) Damn! I did not realize how much I am asking of people. Sorry. I also have to mention that we are unique creators. That means we have a dynamic that may be difficult to follow for some and may be super laid back and easy for others. Yes it is a bit sloppy and backwards sometimes but that is how we craft and create. Just have faith in the project manager and everything will work out beautifully.

5) Dedication and participation are great aspects too.

Thank you to Rue Day for helping me out with our Facebook page and putting her time into the Sun DeLarge troupe. She has been supportive all around. It turns out that Rue and I both have the same dedication and drive to support the troupe and that is what is helping this project grow. Shout out to her and to us for putting our differences aside to work on some artistic creations. A-whooP Whoop.

It is strange to think that Rue and I used to not “get along” off and on back in the Whirlwinds days. Rue used to be a part of the Whirlwinds of Brogla troupe from 2012 - 2015. Back then my ex-best friend MG was always there to neutralize us two leos. Haha.

Let me just put this tid bit out there because it boggles the mind. My old BFF MG is now Rue’s BFF and I get to see lovely posts of them being cute and vacationing and having lots of fun together. yaaaaaay -_- (we good tho’). This falls perfectly into the pattern of my life. heh heh.

This women has re-inspired me! I found some clips of her from my old VHS tapes. She had been dancing for years before I got my camcorder in 2002, but I have some footage of her from then and all the way up to 2009. She danced with Whirlwinds until 2011. She is full of energy and you can tell how much belly dancing meant to her. So passionate!

It was easier to share this here video with my Vimeo account because Facebook is always giving me crap about stealing music when I share videos.

I made this video for her husband Richard. Some people may not know this, but Richard is my cousin. He is my grandpa’s sister’s son. This is my dad’s side, “Santistevan”. So he is my dad’s first cousin.

I knew Virrina before I knew she was married to my cousin, Virrina had invited his family to Grecian Garden to watch us dance at Thia’s Open Night at Grecian’s. When we came out they were like “Whoa! wth is Shasha doing out there with Virrina”. It was a weird moment.

Well,…we, our troupe, had a lot of fun with the camcorder recording ourselves. Over the next few years we all merged into the technology of taking video with our phones. Everything before that was on my VHS from my camcorder. I took her solos and some clips of us, and made a video for Richard to take to the service they have planned for her today. I am not going as it is only for the immediate family. But he wanted to share her love for belly dancing with her family.

There are two songs in the video. The second song is chosen because it was her all time favorite song to dance to. More than Oojami’s “Chicky” and we know how she loved that one. But out of all of her solos, the song “One Thousand & One Nights (Alf Leyla Wlayla)” a remix by Said Mrad, this was her number one very favorite song for her solos. I chose the short version and knowing Virrina, she always chose the long version. Hah Ha! We love that memory. You go girl!

That means I was close the the ENTER button and at any moment I could have published my angry rant about a certain A-hole. Luckily it did not happen. I was so freakishly pissed off like never before! I was typing all kinds of shit. Just baggin’ on and shadin’ all kinds of people. It started with one person and then happened to end with many. I had this really killer flow going.

This was risky stuff because this blog is only a single press of the publish button and then BAM! its done! sent out into the universe. I was typing in fury on my lap top and that is the very place where all the wrong buttons are pushed by accident. This has happened before so it was a close call, that I almost called someone out.

By the way, since ain’t no body readin my shit , I am getting a pod cast this summer…BOO-Ya! Why would I do that? Because I have a book called Podcasting for dummies. Maybe nobody reads this blog cuz it is a waste of time. But that is what I said it was from the beginning. I said here is a good time waster for ya!

Perhaps the stuff from the old blog threads was read in the wrong tone. It was supposed to be read in a charming personality. Don’t picture me literally sitting here in my trapezoid-shaped paper- thin clothes from KOHL’s and my sad hair bun. If you are picturing that sadness, then I have to tell you that I always have my foot up on the window sill whilst I type. It keeps the blood flowing to my heart. Let’s get back on track here: This blog is about how I almost let everyone know I was super pissed and that I was blogging angrily on my lap top which is dangerously close to the ENTER button . And…

As usual our debut dance was not finished but somehow we awkwardly pulled it off. Thank god we are not the only ones who have done that before. It is not just procrastination, it is a bit of writers block too and some of us come up with our best work at the last minute. When Inspiration meets desperation it forces us to try things we normally would not. That is one of the bad habits we are trying to break. We will finish this particular dance and we will have more members by then. It should turn out real swell! Thank goodness we have a random blog so we can explain ourselves. This will be coming in handy for the future of Sun D for sure.

Seriously, I really don’t know what the hell I’m doing on this dumb website. I guess it is like a big scrapbook or something that you all can look at without having to come over for coffee and sit on my couch. I (technically, “we'“) started it along time ago when we were being silly and tipsy at our WW meetings and it sure has changed. Quick note: I am getting new ideas now and I do not know how long I may keep it so enjoy the cringe fest here whilst you can.

I do want to share the latest details about our troupe now. The sprout has two more leaves! One is a littler greener than the other sprouts. That means we have two more members and one is brand new to the belly dance community! Yay! this will be so very fun! And of coarse I have to mention that Rue Day is back! She was also a member of the long gone troupe Whirlwinds of Brogla (check out our about page to see what that was). She will be guest blogging from time to time in the near future.

Hopefully we will have many dances together because I am not getting any younger here folks! I gotta wear some of these damn costumes and get my twirl on! Ya know ‘whirl’-friends? Hey! I am not the only one doing weird shit here.

You bet your asses this blog is back! Only I have a new excuse now. I call it “Avant-Garde” bloggin. I can not believe how sensitive society is these dayz. I can’t just “not be myself”. It feels too fake. Besides this blog does have much to do about belly dance. This is all of the dark matter that is in between the socializing, brainstorming, and other bonding procedures a belly dance troupe goes through. So I forgive whoever turned me into the Facebook team for that Hard Salami blog. For the record, I was at Wal-mart when I took that pic, so it is real.

Not much to blog about since I do not have a troupe anymore. I just want to put it out there, (some random nonsense) I think there is something about belly dancing, that is hard to explain. But when you find something like it, it makes you feel good and it inspires you, even if your feelings are in the negative, it still inspires you. And a creative side wants to find a way to express it. Then you never really stop doing it because it has now become a part of your life. It heals and nourishes your energy (the soul). It is belly dance for the soul. That is probably why I keep dancing even if no one is watching. …(ahhhhhhh, that was dumb) anywayz…

I really miss sharing those experiences with some of the best friends I have ever had. Those would be my home-girls. I shout out to thee: MG, Jeri, Sabrina, and Katya! (…long pause.) I guess right now I just want to say how much I miss having the old belly dance troupe Whirlwinds together. We really shared a lot. We had a lot of fun. Whenever it was a hard week for any of us, which it always was. We really looked forward to getting together, eating cheeses and drinkin wines, and what not more. We did make good dances together in between. So ya, I believe forgiveness is the real big healer in every situation. Sometimes you have to forgive yourself so that you quit beatin yourself up. so, “I forgive you, me”.

Fate, or something like that, is how these things happen, they happen for a reason. Whirlwinds was hanging by a thread and it is because it was meant to die. Now I feel it is time to build a new troupe. Maybe, I hope. So far my attempts have failed. It is so hard to find people who have a passion for something that does not pay, but rather takes time and money away. But there are ways to be frugal too. I am looking for people who love to put feeling into motion and heal through the expression of dance. belly dance. Most of those who know about this kindred spirit have had or are in belly families. And there performances are very very powerful !

By the way, watch for a new beginning duet troupe under my direction, Sirens of Osiris. Oh yes! This is a very fun troupe. They “dab”-ble in darkness and the underworld. They will debut in 2019!
