I am also sorry that I am not replying to your blogs, the times I do have internet access is not enough to keep up with the evergrowing updates on my Bloglovin’ feed, so I choose to use those moments for uni first and foremost, and keeping up to date with my series.

When I get internet again I will probably need to press “read all” but PLEASE if you have any post in particular you think I might like, you really want me to see, or want me to comment on, DO leave a link (in this post if you want, or email me).

1) Make sure you have the following within reach: a headband, preferably a tight one, not too loose (depending on the look you’re going for, you can use either a thin headband like we did, or a thicker one); a spray bottle filled with some water; a brush, and ofcourse some hairspray (not pictured).
2) Dampen your hair using the spray bottle.
3) Put on the headband, make sure to place the headband close to your hairline, (especially if you have bangs). Then brush & divide the rest of your hair into thin sections. If you have bangs, brush them in front of your face if you want to tuck them away as well, make sure to start with those in step 4.
4) Tuck your bangs, or the strands of hair closest to your face, under the headband and then wrap around it. Then start twisting the small strands of your hair you divided earlier, and carefully wrap under the band.

5) Do this at the other side of your hair as well.
6) Do the same at the back of your head: twist your hair, tuck it underneath the headband and then wrap.
7) Keep twisting and tucking until your entire head is done.
8) Your hair should now look like this. You could leave it like this, but if you have bangs you can pull them back from underneath the hairband: they will be curled now! Magic!

All done! If you find your hair doesn’t hold, pin your hair with bobbypins. Don’t forget to finish with hairspray.

So what is changing here? Not too much, really. Because nothing really changed, just my mindset to blogging. You see, I was kind of in a blogging rut. Someone once flat out told me: “If a blog doesn’t update at least twice a week, I won’t follow it.” I’m sure that person didn’t mean to, but that stuck in my head and made me very neurotic and worried about not posting enough. Sometimes I resorted to posted things I didn’t really like or didn’t stand behind, quality-wise. But I am not doing that anymore. So, if you’re like that person and expect me to update twice a week, I guess this is not the blog for you. I am a full time university student, and blogging, right now, is just my hobby and not a job. Though I really, really love blogging, it’s first and foremost an outlet for my creativity. I will update when I have the time and inspiration. I really needed to have this on black and white, and also have changed my about page to reflect this because I am a bit neurotic, haha.

Having said that, I do have some more inspiration for the blog right now so I am really excited to pick it up again. At my own pace. I’m going to try and post more outfit pictures, but again. At my own pace.

Oops sorry for not updating for so long, but I’m stressing out because I have endterms this week. Anyway, here’s a post in which I thought I’d show you my Städter Metal Bow Cutter – these little bows are perfect for Christmas! Before I had this cutter, I actually made my bows in a similar way, but just used a knife to cut the fondant. So you don’t necessarily need the cutter.

1) You’ll need two half long strips (on the picture they are roundish, but square works as well), which ends you fold together and glue together with some sugar glue (water or milk with some icing sugar or regular sugar). 2) You then face those two in front of each other, and lower a smaller strip (pictured on the bottom) on top of it and fold over both of them. 3) Then you cut out two long strips, and cut out a little triangle at the end to resemble ribbons, and paste the bow on top of that. Et voilà :)

How do you like my new dress by Romwe? I love it so much, it’s so fluffy I could die! Although you can’t see it on the pictures, it also has feint glitter in it! So cute! I combined it with maroon tights (or oxblood or whatever you want to call it) – currently a bit obsessed with that colour.

Also, if you follow me on Twitter, you know I dyed my hair a bit more of a reddish tone – not sure if you can see it on the pictures. But I’m really happy with it!

As you might know, I am currently studying English Language & Culture. So when one of my fellow classmates asked me to submit something about cupcakes for the English students’ magazine, Writer’s Block, I ofcourse happily obliged. I made these yummy cupcakes using the cutest British flag cups and submitted the recipe. There was one problem, though. It’s a literary magazine, so a recipe hardly fits, right? So they decided to turn it into a ballad. If it hadn’t been on such short notice I would have loved to do it myself, but all credit goes to Ines. The ballad is genius and I laughed so hard when I read it! (if you want to read it drag the image to your browser) Anyway, here is the actual recipe! It is nothing new, though, it’s just so you can see how the original recipe read.

Vanilla cupcakes with rich chocolate frosting
Enjoy these vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting with a nice cup of tea! Original cake recipe by the Hummingbird Bakery, frosting recipe adapted from the Tasty Kitchen.

For the cupcakes:
Needed:
100g plain flour
20g cocoa powder
140g caster sugar
1½tsp baking powder
a pinch of salt
40g unsalted butter, at room temperature
120ml whole milk
1 egg
¼tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 170°C (325°F).
2. Combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, salt and butter and mix in a slow speed until you get a sandy consistency and everything is properly combined.
3. Whisk the milk, egg and vanilla extract together in a jug, then slowly pour about half into the flour mixture, beat to combine and turn the mixer up to high speed to get rid of any lumps that may be in the batter.
4. Turn the mixer down to a slower speed and slowly pour in the remaining milk mixture (scrape any unmixed ingredients from the side of the bowl into the middle). Continue mixing for a couple more minutes until you get a nice smooth batter. Be careful not to overmix.
5. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases are approximately 2/3 full and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. To see if the cupcake is done, a skewer inserted in the centre should come out clean. If not, add a few more minutes to the baking time.
6. Turn out the cupcakes immediately to avoid the cases peeling (do not pull at them with your fingers!) and let them cool off before frosting them.

For the frosting:
This is a light frosting, somewhere in between buttercream and whipped cream.

Ingredients:
5 Tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 packet of vanilla sugar
250 gr butter (depending on how much you need, of course)
sugar (either granulated or confectioner’s, your preference)
chocolate spread (e.g. Nutella)

Instructions:
1. Put a cup of milk into a small pan, together with the 5 tablespoons of flour. Whisk together until combined.
2. Heat the pan on medium heat. Keep whisking until it thickens. Be careful not to overheat because it will burn. The consistency should be thicker than cake batter.
3. Let it cool to room temperature.
4. Beat the butter until creamy.
5. Add the sugar, vanilla, and vanilla sugar. Whisk together.
6. Mix in chocolate spread, amount depending on your preference. You can also add some cocoa power to get a richer flavour and/or colour.

First up: Essie nailpolish. Let me preface this by saying that I’ve tried dozens of nailpolish brands. I’ve used different topcoats and basecoats. But my nailpolish always, ALWAYS, no matter what I do, chips horribly after only one day. So when everyone started raving about Essie, I was skeptic. But… I’m convinced. I’ve tried three different colours from the brand and they are amazing. I’ve tested the colours without bothering to use basecoats and they all were chip-free after the first day! Heck, they even stayed pretty neat after a shower, with minor chipping. These must be even more amazing WITH basecoats. So yes, it’s true what they say, Essie IS amazing!

Forgive me if my fingers look a bit greasy, I use express dry drops to get my nails dry faster and took pictures right after, using flash, which isn’t helpful either. In reality they didn’t look like that at all. Also application is a bit sloppy because I’m very impatient with my nails. Maybe this will motivate me to be more precise! OK, here we go:

Recessionista
According to their website, this is a brick red colour. I kind of had to Google that because the bricks I’m used to, do not look like this! I would describe it as a dark aubergine, personally.

Skirting the issue
This is a beautiful deeper red colour, some reds make me feel a bit tacky but this one is pretty classy, I think. The only objection I have, that it kind of tricky to apply. It applies as a ‘gradient’, so to speak, and I didn’t get it right until I got to my pinky-finger, as you can see on the picture. If you look at the index finger, you can see that I tried to put on another layer and it didn’t look quite right. But, in hindsight, it didn’t even need another layer.

Midnight Cami
This is such a gorgeous colour and I picked it because it reminded me of Midnight Poison by Dior, my favourite fragrance ever (too bad Dior isn’t going to make it anymore apparantly, but that’s off topic.) It’s a deep blue with shimmer in it. Love it!

The verdict: The three colours, Midnight Cami, Recessionista & Skirting the issue, I’ve tried by Essie were excellent. Definitely would buy again!

If only Halloween was as big here in the Netherlands as it is in the States, these would be the perfect trick or treat-treats, don’t you think?

For the vanilla cookie recipe, refer to my Hello Kitty Cookies recipe. For the cats and bats we used black fondant to decorate the kitties, and tried to be as creative as possible with sprinkles and green fondant for the eyes!

For the usual vanilla recipe I use, see this link. The frosting I adapted from the Pioneer Woman, using these tasty little things:

Candy melts!

This is a light frosting, somewhere in between buttercream and whipped cream. To see how I made mine, scroll on!

Ingredients:
5 Tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 packet of vanilla sugar
250 gr butter (depending on how much you need, of course)
sugar (either granulated or confectioner’s, your preference)

2 spoons of strawberry syrup

Instructions:
1. Put a cup of milk into a small pan, together with the 5 tablespoons of flour. Whisk together until combined.

Hello everyone, university has started again so I have less time to put posts together, so I might post a little less but DON’T GO ANYWHERE ‘cause I do have some cool stuff planned and I’m not going anywhere.

Anyway, this post is long overdue since four lovely ladies have nominated me for the Liebster blog award. 1. What’s your favourite ice-cream flavour?
Anything chocolate-y, preferably with cookies or brownies!
2. If I made a film of your life who would you like to play you?
I don’t really know any Euro-Indonesian-Japanese Hollywood actresses. So I guess I’m kind of white-washing myself when I say Summer Glau, she does have Asian-esque features and she is amazing.
3. Who do you think would actually play you?
Well, I’ve asked other people before and the answers were: Lucy Liu (is it because I’m Asian?!), Mila Kunis or Miranda Cosgrove… (what)
4. What’s your favourite store?
I don’t really have one favourite but I tend to shop from H&M, River Island, Zara & Forever21.
5. Tell me about your daily routine – what is the first thing you do in the morning?
The first thing I do is check my mail on my phone, kind of to encourage my eyes to stay open. I then turn on either my hair curler or straightener so it can warm up while I brush my teeth etc.
6. What’s the last thing you do at night?
Probably mess around on my phone.
7. Do you have any pets?
Currently, not any of my own. My stepsister has a bunny though.
8. Do you have any nicknames?
Lots, but the most fun one is Ushi! I call that person Dushi.

For my Shakespeare class I have to do Richard II.

I really like Bakerella, she’s the one who made me take up baking. I also love Wish Wish Wish because she has the prettiest, crisp pictures and lovely style!

I don’t really have one since I’ve ordered from Etsy only once.

I love both, but I have more shoes than bags so I guess shoe!

I really want to have the Charlotte Olympia catface shoe. I will settle on a knock-off, as well.

I am not adventurous at all. So I guess camping but I left pretty quickly because it was raining… I repeat I’m not adventurous at all.

I don’t tend to spend a lot of money on one item actually, I’m really quantity over quality because a) I get bored of an item rapidly and b) I manage to rip and ruin clothes very quickly. So I guess the most expensive was a good wintercoat.
8. What is your favorite clothing brand?
I don’t really have one…
9. What is your favorite item in your closet?
I guess my chiffon bow belt because it can dress up anything. If you mean clothes wise… I am really inconstant, the one week it will be this dress I bought, the other week a blouse.
10. You have a lunch date with your dream celebrity (Brad Pit, George Clooney or anybody) how would you dress?
First, it would be Darren Criss. Secondly, I would definitely wear a dress, I think a vintage looking floral one and heels.
11. What is the best fashion advice you can give anybody?
You should always dress in a way that makes you feel comfortable, but you should also step out of your comfort zone once in a while to try something new.

1. What is your secret hero power?
Am I really dumb if I don’t understand this question? Do you mean what superhero power I’d like to have? Cause that would definitely be the power or persuasion, mwuahaha.
2. If your life was a movie what would the theme song be?
I guess “I don’t want to be” from Gavin DeGraw which is really cheesy because it’s also One Tree Hill’s theme song but I really like that show okay!?
3. And which actor would you want to take the title role?
As mentioned before, Summer Glau.
4. River, seaside or lake?
Seaside, definitely.
5. In a zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice?
Either an axe or a sword – I would say a gun but that can run out of bullets. On the other hand, an axe or sword could slow you down… I don’t know!
6. What is your fallback menu item?
Okay, so I’m not sure if I’m understanding this question right (I swear I study English) but if you mean, an item that you always order…. It’s a steak. Or beef rolls.
7. Name your drink of choice
Alcoholic: any girly-girl drink like a Cosmo or Daiqurii, or just a plain old beer (preferably Hertog Jan.)
Non-alcoholic: Lipton Green Ice Tea or just cold water.

Righty!

I guess vanilla sugar, I always add extra haha.

do you mean how I dress when I feel bad? I try to dress up, make myself as pretty as possible so I can feel better about myself.

I don’t like it, but I do intend to do that soon.

These outfit photos were taken in the lovely city of Den Bosch. That is their city hall, isn’t it gorgeous? I scored the Jane Norman skirt in the SALE and I really love how it makes the outfit pop, although I think I’m going to sew (or, rather, have someone else sew) the pockets shut, because they look kind of wonky when I’m sitting down. I’m also really glad I found this bag which is basically an Alexa bag knock off but affordable.

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have already seen me say this, but:
Do you know that feeling when you spend all day working on a cake and then you drop it?
Well… I do. Yesterday, it was my parents’ (or rather, my dad and his wife’s) 3rd year anniversary. So, obviously, I made a cake to celebrate this fact.
But not any old cake, oh no.
I had my heart set on making a layered cake and I think I underestimated it a little bit. I thought: just dump a smaller cake on a bigger cake and voila. OH, and while I’m at it, why don’t I cover this in fondant although I have never done this before and am not even sure how to?

Yeah.

So I baked two cakes, vanilla and chocolate batter.

Anyway, it took me a while to get them done all the way through, I kept adding more cooking time, but eventually they came out perfectly.

Luckily my sister came by, because the cake had to be done before my parents would be home and I had already spent over an hour just getting the base ready. Alas, I did not take many pictures during the process.

This is what I did, after the bases were cooled down:
1) Cut base in half and spread buttercream on one half. Press other half back on.
(The chocolate one was filled with white chocolate, the vanilla one with jelly.)
2) Spread buttercream all over the cake.
(For the chocolate one I used the same white chocolate buttercream, for the jelly one however I whipped up some vanilla buttercream.)
3) Roll out the fondant. Make sure you have enough.
(I didn’t, hence the wonky looking fondant…)
4) Lower fondant over cake and smoothen.
(Because I didn’t have enough, I couldn’t make it smooth, so it’s essential…)
5) Put small cake on top of big cake.
(If you go with more layers, you need something to support the cakes though)
6) Decorate.

Even though I didn’t buy enough fondant, I was really proud of what my sister and I did with the decorating. We covered up any holes by piping vanilla buttercream on it and then decorated with edible flowers.

The cake looked homemade, sure, but still impressive.

Full of pride we set out to take pictures of our hard work.

I don’t exactly remember what happened then, but according to big sis, I started screaming in sheer panic, something along the lines of “SUZY! SUZY! I’M GOING TO CRY! SUZY SUZY SUZY I’M GOING TO CRY, SUZY SUZY SUZY!”

My sister quickly put it back on the cakestand and luckily the cake was left relatively unscathed, aside from her fingerprints in the fondant and the text being all squished.

So glad we took pictures before it happened, though.

When the lovely couple arrived, they proclaimed to love the cake anyway. So after dinner, we sat down to enjoy it.

When my other sister went to cut herself another slice, guess what happened?

SHE DROPPED IT ONTO THE TABLE.

I guess I screamed again.

My dad went to put it back up, and when he did…

HE TOPPLED IT TOWARDS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TABLE.

This time I just covered my face in anguish.

So that’s the story of how the cake for a THREE year anniversary, was dropped THREE times. Nevermind, the cake itself was SO GOOD though, even if it was a little beaten and ugly.

This is one of the outfits that I wore in Antwerp. The photos were taken in front of the beautiful Central Station. This adorable Jane Norman dress was a bargain deal at only €12! Oh how I love SALE. (But mostly friends tipping me on bargains such as this one!)

Antwerp is such a lovely place. I just love all their buildings, they are so gorgeous. Can you believe the first & last are actually their central station? And it has great food, as well, as you can see from the photos. I am so hungry looking at these pictures again. Belgian waffles are THE BEST. Our hotel, de Keyser, was great and has the nicest staff- and yummy breakfast. I also love the golden looking mall (YES, that’s actually a MALL!) too bad those banners are there, it would prettier without. And, ofcourse, there is a Forever21 which, at least for now, has not reached the Netherlands yet so that was the first store we went to!

What is your favourite dessert?
Chocolate mousse or chocolate & cookies icecream. Actually, anything chocolately will make me very happy!

When you’re upset, what do you do?
I go sulk in my room and listen to sad music. Sometimes I go write.

What was your favourite pet?
That is my sweetheart cat Poela. She died a few years ago at the age of 21, which is pretty old for a cat so I’m lucky I had her as long as I did. She was the sweetest thing ever! We we’re friends since I was a baby.

What do you prefer to wear, black or white?
Black, I think it’s more easy to combine. Also I spill a lot, so black is the better choice!

What is your biggest fear?
I think that’s anyone I love dying. But I also really really hate clowns.

What is your attitude mostly?
Live and let live.

What is perfection to you?
A very abstract term which could mean anything to anybody. To me, it is probably being and looking healthy and happy.

What is your guilty pleasure?
I can’t really think of anything. I mean, does guilty pleasure not imply you’re actually kind of ashamed to admit you like something? I don’t think anyone should be judged for liking something because it doesn’t say anything about that person. Was that too deep? Haha! I really wouldn’t know what I should put here.

I have to say, the blogging community is so great and I’m so glad I’m part of it. You need:
250 gram butter
2 eggs
450 gram flour
a dash of salt
200 gram sugar
2 packets of vanilla sugar

First mix eggs, sugar (both the vanilla and regular one). Then add the butter and milk and briefly mix to blend all ingredients. Roll up in a ball, like this

and put in the fridge. After an hour, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (= 356 degrees Fahrenheit) roll out the dough and cut out the kitties. Bake them around 16 minutes.

Now use the cookie cutter to cut out some white fondant

Use an edible ink pen to draw on eyes and whiskers, and use red fondant for the bows. This is how I made them:

Recently, I was contacted by PopAsia, a webshop specializing in Asian fashion and other things that I really love and have also bought my bow from this outfit from. They asked me if I wanted to review their socks and I said yes! I always intended to wear more knee-high socks and this was the perfect opportunity. They send me the black socks pictured here – simple, but it really can finish an outfit! They are also super comfortable. The thing that kept me from wearing knee-socks is that I was worried about them slipping, but actually these stay perfectly in place. If you want to buy them, they are not that expensive, and you can do so here. I am going to wear the heck out of them, that’s for sure.

In addition, they also sent me this top! Isn’t it lovely? It goes really well with the socks! They also send me a kitty cookie cutter (how perfect is that?) – from which you will see the results very very soon.

As you might recall, I applied to be a fashion hunter at OASAP and was allowed to pick a freebie. Well, my dress finally arrived and I couldn’t be happier with it! I had so much trouble picking just the one thing from their shop, I loved almost their entire selection, but in the end I settled for this dress. I’m glad I did because it is so awesome! I love the adorable collar and its lovely floral print – I’m such a sucker for floral print. In addition, it fits me perfectly and is so very airy and soft! First, make your cupcakes. If you need a recipe for vanilla cupcakes, I have posted the Hummingbird Bakery recipe here.
When they are hot out of the oven, turn them out. Here is some more information about how I make sure my liner sticks to the cupcake.
Secondly, Mix some tequila with confectioner’s sugar and brush over naked cupcake.

For the buttercream:
250 gram of butter
7 tablespoons of tequila
1 packet of vanilla sugar
70 gram of confectioner’s sugar
Lemon juice
Two spoons of white chocolate paste (you could also just use melted white chocolate)
Candied lemon slices

Beat butter until fluffy. Add sugar, lemon juice, white chocolate and tequila to taste. You don’t actually need a lot of tequila – I might have gone overboard with 7 tablespoons, heh. You can make it less (or more, if you’re up for it.) Then pipe the buttercream on the cupcake and add a candied lemon slice. I found these ready-made in the store, but you can also use regular slices or other candies. I just really like the cocktail effect they give the cupcake!

Enjoy! And don’t eat these while driving, hahahaha!

Jeesh, another outfit post? YES! I really need to start baking too, but I won’t be able to do that until after the endterms. I do have some ideas, though so I’m really looking forward to the end of these horrible exams (+resits, argh).

Anyway, here I am wearing my lovely cat dress from Primark. I really like the sleeves and the silly little kitties. Also wearing my new red shoes with… surprise… BOWS! My lovely sister Liz shot these pictures for me, and in turn I practised my photography with her as my model! I’m really excited to show you those pictures because she has the most awesome hair ever. And outfit, too. So those pictures should appear soon.

Do you ever raid your friends’ closets? I got to borrow this beautiful bow cardigan (which is from H&M a couple of years ago I think) from a friend and I paired it with my trusted heart skirt by Monki.
