Sundays with the Lechlers

To the doctor

2022-04-09T05:59:00.001-07:00

We are off to the doctor to have Andy checked out since he has had two falls. We thought to wait until his appointment on the 20th, but after talking with him on the phone he has to go to OSU for them to check him and, now, and to speak about what has been going on. We can't be too careful at this stage. (Note: doctor sees nothing out of the ordinary at this point.) Thank God.)

We had a nice but short visit from Nancy and Danny who are nomads going from relative to relative to visit and to help out. We would like to have them longer, but they are expected else where.

I want to see Bullet Train (with Brad Pitt) and the newest James Bond movie. But going to a movie theater is not appealing to me.

Well, we are off. Talk to you later.

Watch your feet.

2022-04-05T10:26:00.000-07:00

This is the time of life for falling and Andy did so yesterday after exercising. He thought it happened on the tennis court, but the blood and hair found on the bricks prove otherwise. He is usually so careful because we both know that is the very bad thing to have happen. I did not know about it until this morning. He seems fine but that introduces worry.

No sun again today, but it is around the corner as proof shown by the daffodils. They are popping up while introducing spring.

I have not read a thing for months. So much has been happening that there is no peaceful time to enjoy a book. Johnna, our daughter-in-law, was hit by a man driving while having a seizure. She is still recovering slowly and painfully.

Well isn't this a cheerful post?

Back again

2022-04-01T13:36:00.001-07:00

Well, I am back again. It has been nothing but sorrow in the Cincinnati Lechler family, and, our dear sister-in-law was put to rest yesterday. Dementia dogged her last days until she disappeared completely. Now, Andy's sister is in Memory Care and although she was able to come to the memorial yesterday, she won't be going home again. Add that to a good friend still fighting it after six years of hell, and that makes quite a list hampered by this condition. Hence, I could not seem to find the words to tell this story which is not mine alone by any means. Glenda's daughters sent her off in style with a very large crowd of people many from the church that she has gone to since it was built. Joe, her husband, was a rock but even he could not calm her towards the end. May she and all those unfortunate enough to get this evil condition now rest in peace.

Winter is teasing us with a bright day one day and snaps back with the winter conditions the next, But, we will beat it in the end because spring always arrives with beauty and grace.

Nate, our grandson is gardening like mad this year taking over Andy's position as head of plants He is such a blessing, but soon he and Mike will begin the season and hopefully it is a good one for them and all those who are employed...and those who are not employed get to it, we need you too.

I have quite a bit going on at the moment but I hope there is enough good news to tell you about, that is if I have any readers left after my long absence.

Good things

2022-01-24T06:45:00.001-08:00

One good thing about a snowy day like this is there is a pot of beef stew sending good vibes through the house. It is a pleasant time to cook. It is so quiet and peaceful and unhurried. Reading is a good winter pass time and I have just finished a couple of old friends in the book world and have started The Paris Library by an author I had not read before. I met a friend on the Italy trip and we still send each other emails on different subjects one being a good book not to miss. She turned me on to the Paris Library. Another good thing to happen is the reliability of Amazon Prime. No matter the weather I hear it coming and I know I am in for a treat. Who ever thought of this system knew a good idea when presented.

I need to make appointments but I am so content where I am that I keep avoiding the obvious...like the hair. Sigh. I hate using up two hours of my life in a chair getting my hair done. I like the hairdresser and that is the positive side of that coin.

We wisely started early buying food stuff before prices went crazy, but we missed the apple boat. Andy came home with our favorite Honey Crisp apples and discovered they were $2.00 EACH. Now we bow our heads before taking a bite.

Nothing exciting here. Stay well and safe.

Where have all the doctors gone?

2022-01-18T13:18:00.003-08:00

I have been fighting the battle of the UTI alone, well, with Andy as a great help. We battled alone for 4 days running to one Urgent Care after another, which in this area I will never step foot in again in any of them. Doesn't anyone work in Columbus any more? We were running around for four days trying to get antibiotics this is because the great OSU My Chart, a great invention until someone got the idea to change it and, of course, screwed it up. My doctor would not respond to my messages, pleas, if I were to be honest. Total silence like he had gone to gardener's heaven which is an inside joke. Finally after two hours in a chair at the Kroger Little clinic where you can buy a pound of chicken and get your shots on the side we were done not done done, we simply left after finding out that walk in Tuesday had a different meaning. It is tricky, because walk in Tuesday (without a time slot) doesn't mean that. Walk in Tuesday is for booster shots. One needs an appointment to see a doctor. Next Urgent Care, closed with a foreign speaking man on the other end of the phone giving instructions about filling out five pages and holding your phone up to the barr on the window to get a time slot in the distant future if they open it at all. Now Andy does not get fired up at all...but he had had enough. He sat down and wrote to our doctor and in 15 minutes the doctor wrote to me that he had the prescription sent to our CVS and to let him know if I did not feel better in a few days. Now, that wasn't so hard was it? I was giddy at the drug store picking up my 12 pills-people in there thought they needed some of those happy pills too. But they were mine, all mine.

Happy New Year

2022-01-13T05:29:00.005-08:00

Hello everyone. I hope your new year started off happily. I got to go to Carfagna's twice in one day. I was so disappointed that I spent $300. Andy sat in the car for an hour reading the paper and just as the bill was rising to an alarming rate, there he was staring in shock at the bill I was paying. He said nothing on the way home then days later he said something about their prices and I knew it was the end of that store for him as well. Why: it was ugly to begin with and oddly placed. The meat was all over the store in odd places and odd angles. I had to ask twice about meat and finally they took me to it. The staff was plentiful and very helpful. I like them a lot. I did not see any of the Amish products that they once had, but I got a case of their pasta sauce. Every thing I found was fresh (and expensive) but I knew I was not coming back. I bought seven loaves of cheese bread to freeze for Andy's croutons and they were not baked long enough. Sigh. They were okay for croutons for baking in the oven. When they are warm from the oven they are delicious. Hence the second trip was to pick up the freshly baked bread. Their party case was wonderful with all kind of meats and cheese some of which I had never heard of. I did not find all that I wanted because I got tired of searching for the odd placement. I tried to find their wine and the display was stuffed back in a corner room that looked like it wasn't open. I hope when you go you have better luck and I hope you enjoy it, but, it is not for me.

I haven't been doing too much but I have held my new great grand son. They say their family is complete but I think Stacy, who does all the hard work of bringing them into the world may have different ideas on the subject. She does produce great babies.

All the best to you this new year.

Hand pies

2022-01-04T05:34:00.000-08:00

Today it is pear and apple hand pies. David had sent a Harry and David treat box and it had the ripe pears and some apples in it. We have a lot of food to take care of from Christmas, so puff pastry hand pies is one solution. Maybe I can get a good picture of them with y new phone which is a bit scary. That phone does a lot of things.

Life is leveling out here at Many Branches and we are debating what to do with the tennis court. I have had it redone and or fixed three times and it needs it now, but I am dragging my feet.. That tennis court is much worse to deal with than a pool I can tell you that. It looks pretty for a while and suddenly it is a problem again. All around this city there are tennis clubs; Mike has joined a good one with good rates, so, we are considering having it taken away which is no small feat. We will debate that to death and one day they will come home and it will be done.

I have pear and apples simmering on the stove and I am still in my night wear, so I will leave you now.

Happy New Year

2022-01-03T04:28:00.004-08:00

Santa knows Trader Joe. He dropped off a food basket for us via Matt and Stacy and they delivered it last night. There was a bag of Omega Trek Mix that looks so tasty. Not dried out like a lot of mixes. It looks freshly packaged. I will tell you how good it is once we break open the bag. Andy has opened the Lebkchen cookies and given his approval...but then he never saw a cookie that he did not like (that's a double negative.) The one that might make me bake again is the Chocolate Mochi cake mix with peanut butter frosting mix. The presentation bag was held up by Santa and enclosed in his suit was a bottle of wine. It was a cute presentation. Thank you Stacy and Matt. Their little girls are little mothers to new baby Mason.

It's peaceful here at Many Branches.

Note: We have started testing the Trader Joe's items and found that the Lebkuchen cookies in the packaging had paper in between the cookies and the paper became one with the rather strange icing Andy, who never turned away from a sweet ate a whole cookie while thinking what the heck is the matter with these cookies--they were tossed! While the base was not bad the base was not worthy of a buy.

Note: Patty, thank you for your helpful posts. I do not know how to respond under your posts to talk with you about them. The Minor thing: I am already using the product you mention but it is not as good in my estimation. I can't put a finger on why the Minor product appeals to me more. I will try to find how to respond to comments and even publish them on the blog, and I have blogged over a thousand times without knowing how to comment back to readers. Well, DUH...

Minor's folly

2021-12-29T05:34:00.002-08:00

I first bought Minor's beef base and also chicken base at Carfagna's for $6. each. It is a great product for enhancing soups and stews. Just a teaspoon or even half that can make all the difference. The next time I found it on line and paid eight dollars and ninety nine cents for the same size and same product. Yesterday I went on Amazon to buy the beef again and it was twenty six dollars for (one) the exact same thing, same size etc. I call that unreasonable. We are being taken for a ride. The good thing is there are a lot of beef based products on the market and even if this is best, I will never buy it. Saying no is the beauty of the situation. (I also have the chicken base, the mushroom base and the vegetable base still on hand. I just checked on line again and Walmart has it, 16 oz. for $31.00. I don't want it from another store on line. Amazon has all my information and it's free delivery and a click away. Boo humbug

I am still using the gargantuan pork shoulder roast. It's soup today, yesterday it was pork stir fry...there's more. Luckily I am cooking for Adam and his girl because they are so busy getting settled. He stops by each evening for the goodies. So soup with pasta stirrings tonight. (little tiny tiny egg noodles which taste good and helps to thicken the soup)

I don't want to waste any part of a year but I tell you I am looking forward to January 1. I will be jubilant.

Pork roast

2021-12-27T10:32:00.004-08:00

I have a mother of a pork roast, potatoes and carrots roasted with it in the oven. It is so heavy in that enameled pot that I literally can't lift it. But, I did get a sliver of the pork and it is wonderful. I have to call the troops to come and get some. I should have asked the butcher to cut it in half, but forgot to do that while shopping.

The new version of the book Rebecca is on Netflix. You might want to see that. I told you about the Imposters, but, Double Jeopardy is really good too. I also liked Reign. At 3:30 on Mondays channel 7 shows Escape to the Chateau it is on for an hour if we are lucky. They are stingy with that one and only put it on if they can't find something else like cartoons.

Well, heave ho the pot roast and Happy New Year.

It's over for another year

2021-12-26T05:02:00.002-08:00

Yesterday I learned I am not too good, anymore, at organizing for company. It was a good thing it was family, or soon to be family, because it was certainly casual in a setting meant to be elegant. First Andy and I could not get the cranberry bites out of the three miniature cupcake pans which, we finally had to throw away because there was no getting the drippings off those pans. Andy still thought they tasted great and the guest sort of liked them. Oh well. The two roasts got good reviews and left over take homes positive. (But, I forgot to take the salad out of the fridge to serve it.)

What we really enjoyed was being together, having too much wine on my part, and laughing and telling stories some embellished to be sure. Some repeated, for sure. We got to meet Adam's choice to marry and we liked her. I was all set to be calm but she was delightful and grounded and Adam was the same. One always worries about new additions to the family especially if things are relatively going well at the time...like don't rock the boat adding a new element to the mix, but, life goes on and choices are made and then everyone connected must live with the current choice. All in all, for a quiet Christmas it was so much fun at the table. Andy stepped up to do clean up. I went to bed. That's a first leaving a mess behind but Andy had it under control and it was good for him to get involved with the kitchen. Thank you husband of more than sixty years.

Oooops, I am cooking after all

2021-12-23T10:09:00.005-08:00

Well now, it turns out that we will have Christmas lunch with Adam, his girl, Mike, Andy and the cook. I have a nice rib roast at the ready, also a pork roast . I am having scalloped potatoes, a salad or two and for starters cranberry bites in puff pastry with cranberry sauce on the brie bites. Hot from the oven, they were a hit when someone and I made them a long time ago. I can't remember who it was but we were very proud of ourselves. This is done in a mini cupcake pan or two. Oh, I think it was Alyssa who, by the way. gave birth to a fine boy. The boys were popping out all over the place in December. All healthy and adorable.

Andy and I went to a little market (Weiland's) near us to get a few things. I can't believe the line of people standing like cattle to get in the market to shop. It was a surprise and too cold to stand in line. So, Andy ordered Kroger and he is to pick it up at 5:00 this afternoon. I like to grocery shop, taking my time, but waiting in line is a none starter for me. I still have not been to Carfagna's new store at Polaris. waaaaa, sigh. When I go, I know I will be in there an hour at least; the store is supposed to be really big.

Merry Christmas...or make the best of it which is what I am doing. Next year we are going to tear it up!

Humbug

2021-12-22T07:32:00.002-08:00

What are you doing today? There does not seem to be the rush and feeling of excitement that this date usually brings. I can think of all the things I had to do in past years and what did I do today? I made pizza for lunch and while it looked very good, it wasn't preparing the standing rib roast and ten or so sides plus the starters that I once concentrated on for the pleasure of several guests at different times all around the date of importance. We drove down our road yesterday and there were no decorations to be seen. Our red-bow wreaths tried their best to encourage, but to no avail. We did not put up the usual porch light decoration that many people liked, but I will do it next year if I am still around because I miss it so this year. I wonder if my neighbor who never took her Christmas tree down is still enjoying it year round?

I got my booster yesterday thanks to Andy's nagging. We made a deal and so I had to keep up my end of it.

Well, the pizza is out of the oven and looking mighty fine, so, Merry Christmas and here's hoping you are having more fun than we are.

A visit from the future

2021-12-19T05:11:00.003-08:00

We had a very important visitor last early evening. Big Boy, and why do I keep calling him that? Mason came to say hello. He did not find us too important because he slept through the entire visit except for a brief moment when I held him and spoke to him he opened his eyes, thought it wasn't worth the effort, and went back to sleep. I, however, took that moment as proof that he knew me, that he knew my voice. I could wax on and on, but, just to say, he is the most perfectly formed baby I have ever seen.

It does not seem like Christmas to me. It came so soon after the last one. Time is speeding up. I miss the slow meandering days of old, but then I am old. Even the seasonal decorations at night seem like they are trying hard to make up for those homes that have given up for the year. Well, I am looking forward to the new year...what else can one do? Make the most of it and appreciate every gasp of breath that we still have.

Merry Christmas and may the new year be good to you.

Oh no, my eyes, my eyes...

2021-12-16T06:40:00.001-08:00

What do you think of women 50 and beyond wearing long blond wigs pulled in all directions, braided scooped or fluffed? I know some will say it's their right. But, when they are on television they are everywhere and there is no place else to land. (Back to books.) Never mind the fighting, screaming, and hatred spewing from their over served lips, when the scene is done, they lunch together or dine together when ever time or lip space allows. I saw The Real Housewives of Orange County last night and was horrified...the hair, the hair, it was so over the top I could not stop watching, she says with a bowed head. It is no wonder their ratings are in and they are not up lifting.

My niece and her husband stopped by yesterday with some goodies. We were in to the orange cake by the time the providers drove away. Today, it is the taco soup. (She and he brought all the fixings too.) Thanks Nancy and Danny.

I guess I told you our third great grandson arrived in good shape. That Stacy does this so easily, spends one night in the hospital, and then comes home to chaos. She is great. Matt is lucky to have found her. We have not be introduced yet, but it will happen.

It is a warm, windy day here in Columbus. We have been searching for a place for me to get the booster shot. Andy has non stop requested that I get it. We tried walk in at CVS and Kroger...no walk ins. Kroger will do it on Tuesday which is walk-in day. I never thought I could get health care and groceries at the same time. This world is changing.

WOW

2021-12-10T08:08:00.007-08:00

Please don't tell me you are one of the people buying The Barefoot Contessa's frozen desserts where you will find 12 cookies for $100. This announcement was in my newsfeed yesterday and I can't find the exact article now, but know you will be astounded and disgusted by the audacity. Prices range for a bite or two of brownies or cookies from $59 to $100. or near enough to make you gasp.

Several years ago in The Hamptons one woman was selling crab salad for $100. a pound. I can only imagine what it sells for now.

Ina's coconut cake is $89. and that may be worth it. It may be a large cake with several layers and it looks generous in size but it may be illusional photography. (I can see my relatives flopping around in their graves over these prices.)

Have you watched The Imposters on Netflix? You might enjoy it, I know I did. I am debating about the new best seller called The Girls Are All So Nice Here by Laurie Flynn.

I bet you all are cooking and baking up a storm. I'll let you get back to that. Maybe you could join Goldbelly and Ina and sell your (9) brownies at a bargain price of $59. Good luck.

Our good news is that Stacy, Matt's wife, has delivered our third Great Grand Child this morning. He's a big boy!

Empty talent pool

2021-12-06T09:53:00.001-08:00

I just finished watching the series The Imposters on Netflix and it was really good. Better than anything on TV right now. Is their talent pool empty? Where are the new shows when we need them. We are staying home more, why can't they release their new shows if they have any? The current new shows are unwatchable yelling, fighting, back stabbing, crude, vulgar...to name a few TV sins. (Some real life criminals thrown in.) They over act and think screaming is the path to fame.

Now I've done it. Once I started baking there is no end in sight. Nate has gone on his travels so he won't be here to help eat the goodies...some problem huh? I found Trader Joe's Brownie Truffle Baking Mix. It is on the agenda, I mean the box looks good enough to eat so how can the brownie truffle go wrong?

We are still on Baby Boy watch. We want to welcome the latest Lechler with lots of love. Speaking of the kids: Madeleine is 5 going on 18. Mike and Matt where watching the girls one evening and they were playing beauty salon (if you can imagine those two men going through what they have to do). They made a miss step in the process and Madeleine became angry and express this verbally. The men said they did not want her to be mad at them...they are putty in those tiny hands, and she said she was still mad and they would just have to deal with it!!!

Shrimp salad on toast with Baby Gem lettuce for tonight. It is just the two of us now, like old times.

TJ's has done it again

2021-12-04T12:01:00.003-08:00

We ae in love with Trader Joe's pumpkin bread easy mix. Plop it in a bowl, add a couple of ingredients stir until smooth and then pop it in the oven. The results, an hour later, are exactly what one expects.

I no longer like to bake, so this was an nice introduction to baking, being so simple and delicious.

I am expecting Jimmy and Joe, Andy's brothers to come for a visit soon now that Glenda is happily settled in Memory Care. They have been through the wringer down there.

What a beautiful, sunny day this is. We spent most of it outside...not working, just talking. I hope yours was pleasant too.

Note: I just made the vanilla quick cake from Trader Joe's, it looks perfect. I hope it is as good. I think Trader Joe's has a line of these cakes, but these are the first two I have tried.

A sunny day at last

2021-11-30T10:42:00.004-08:00

What a warm sunny day, so why not wash windows. I got 15 long glass panel windows taken care of with a few streaks but mostly good results. Those 15 kept bothering me and, as you know, you can't get help. Well, I have help, but they don't do windows. I always found that amazing, but then I am an all in or nothing girl.

I had a good birthday yesterday, nothing earth shattering, but good just the same.

With this sun, I want to work outside. What??? (I know that surprised me too.) I did some work there after the window washing, but I kept seeing more and more that needed doing so I came in and wrote a blog.

As you may know my tech abilities are non existent, so now my Kindle has started pouting. I have a new book that is supposed to be on Kindle, but it says no. It is already annoying and yet it keeps being obstinate. Some day I am loading all of these technical things up and going to the Geeks. That won't be fun for any of us...they will want annoying things like passwords and verifications. Someone must have taken all of mine because I am stunned and starting to sweat thinking about standing in front of the Geeks without my personal information. Will the police be involved?

84 and still kicking

2021-11-29T07:00:00.002-08:00

Well, it is down right amazing to have reached the age of 84. It is a quiet day with three loved ones. It is almost a shame that we can't go out without thinking of the virus. It has taken over the world. But, last Monday when Mike and I went phone searching in the cold rain and ill equipped for the wintery day, I did not think of the virus. We went to two stores that had no phones, still I did not think of the virus, everyone wore masks. When we left the third store, Apple, I realized we were in a store with thirty people, all in masks, but...I became a bit panicked. Too late, we were ready to split the scene. It's been a full week since the shopping spree and since then I have turned 84, so maybe all is still well.

My niece, Nancy, brought me birthday tarts. They looked delicious, but I had just had a bite of something sweet. I put them in the fridge and they disappeared one by one; Andy has a big sweet tooth.

Mike gave me an Amazon gift card, he knows how I love Amazon. Nate's gift is not here yet but he went through my shoes looking for the size and found 5 1/2 was the key to the foot, so one can only assume...

Nate and Andy have ravished the smoke pork left overs today. But, lasagna comes to the rescue later on. It's a good thing I love our home because we are certainly putting in the time here.

The day is sunny, so what could go wrong? I shutter to think.

This and that

2021-11-26T13:04:00.001-08:00

I have to say we spent the quietest Thanksgiving of our history here at Many Branches and we liked it. All the other years, except for last year, we would have 20 to 30 people here to enjoy a feast. This year there were four of us eating a hot smoked beef roast and cold potato salad, which by the way compliment each other.) I liked having a lot of guests and we certainly had them, so one quiet Thanksgiving (and Christmas) won't hurt a thing. Either way, we are a thankful group.

Soon we will be down to three here because Nate will do his travels, sticking to America this time. We will miss him as always.

I am looking forward to a visit from Matt to complete my tech nightmare. I have a couple of issues with my television, not big, but annoying. There are several with my new phone, but I did solve some of the problems myself.

We just had a pop in visit from my niece, Nancy, and her husband, Danny. Nancy has found herself with vertigo. She never knows when it will claim her and so she cannot drive as well as some other jobs because of it. I swear there are so many problems health wise both mental and physical...or is it just my focus now? I know of five friends and or family members in Memory Care now...that too creeps up on a person with little clues along the way.

Tomorrow is the big game, Ohio State and Michigan. The television will be blaring all day. I will be in the kitchen making something tasty for the guys to snack on. (My no cook pout is over.)

Tech terror

2021-11-23T08:39:00.001-08:00

I will be 84 in a few days and hope to God that I never have to buy a phone or a remote again...EVER. Mike, bless his heart, drove me to Easton which is Andy's hell on earth and quickly became ours that early, dark, rainy Monday which turned into darkness before we finished. The shops were open, but two that we were sent to had no phones. Apple is the only one that night that had phones and crowds, I mean big numbers of people (all wearing masks) but the store had plenty of staff and that part went smoothly. The prices were what one would expect but this phone does things that I never have participated in before and right now I do not know how to call or answer or text...but there are hundreds of other things begging to be noticed. The remote was easy to get but no one here (three men) wanted to program it into the television up stairs, let alone tell me how to use the phone that came with no directions. I was pretty put out with these men, so I said I would not be cooking, I had forgotten how! And my chill set in. When I finally went up stairs Mike was working on the remote and got the television working, kind of. It is enough and some day the television will shut off without leaving a message behind that I can not understand. Forget the phone until Matt comes to the rescue on Saturday. I can see messages if you want to send me one and I can read them, but I do not know how to reply. It is very upsetting as many of you might know. I realize there are bigger problems ahead, but this should not be that hard to fix. So, if your stuff is working, keep it and be glad.

The phone stores cannot get inventory because of the shipping problems, Apple was the only one with phones for sale in the entire Easton.

Since my TV now works, I suddenly remembered how to cook. The beef was so tender you could cut it with a fork, the potatoes were brown and delicious and the carrots were tender and tasty. All cooked together in wine in only about an hour and a half. I was so surprised at the time element that I became happy, so I shared my knowledge and stew with the men.

Taiwanese green onion pancakes

2021-11-19T09:23:00.006-08:00

Good morning. Andy and I started the day with a new product from Trader Joe's. Taiwanese green onion pancakes fried in a second or so on both sides and seasoned how you like them. I used Trader Joe's chile lime seasoning blend on one with salt and pepper, for sure, on each of them. I always walk out of that store with one new product to try and this was in the frozen food section and has been looking at me every time I open my freezer, so I tried my luck today and Andy had one and a half and liked it very much and I had not even started trying out seasonings...he had just salt and pepper. It is like a thin fried bread which is street food really. The directions on the back are so simple. I can think of many ways to use these now that I braved the beginning and it was the simple directions on the back that pushed me forward.

I also have a potato, corn, and fish stew on the stove ready for some attention. I am cooking from the freezer today because I have to. Things are falling out and cracking me on the foot saying cook me!

Loved reading Night Music and am watching YOU which is all over the media right now...on Netflix. (Stopped watching YOU.) Also watching Selling Sun Set. That's on Netflix too. Also the new Great British Baking Show is on Netflix with new bakers.

I'm off to season and stir.

Baby sitting...check

Things change so quickly; last post I was lamenting about clear lights and only finding LED lights. All of a sudden the shipment must have come through to Amazon, the lights are everywhere, but now I am out of the mood. It is no small thing to string all of those lights into a design while on a ladder, so I will leave it until next year and we will start earlier.

We are full of pork. Nate and I have mastered the smoker , in our eyes mind you. The pork is so rich I can't eat too much of it, but it is delicious. If you are not in a hurry, it is the way to any easy entree.

We will be having another toned down Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. I will just wait to see what plans everyone has and go from there. Nate will be traveling, but only for a month.

Monday we were treated to a surprise; Stacy called to ask if she could drop off the girls while she went to the doctor. Andy and I were beside ourselves with glee. Mike was catatonic...he cannot believe that we could handle the girls ages 2 and 5 at our advanced age. Never mind I had taught school for thirty years managing quite a few more than two. The girls were perfect. I had things set up so we did not have to scramble to find a pass time...and I had plenty of ice cream as back up if a crying jag should present itself. It was so calm and serene even I was surprised. Matt and Stacy are doing a great job as parents. When the girls left I went to take a little nap which turned into a few hours, but hey, we are retired after all.

Confusing Santa

Santa won't know how to find Many Branches this year. Have you tried buying incandescent lights this season? I finally found some on Amazon and they are foreign and so difficult to assemble that I have given up. That leaves the wreaths in the windows. They are pushing those LED lights that are spooky but I guess proper now days. So Christmas lights have gone the way of cows...so long. I did so want a standing rib roast and porch lights for Christmas. Sigh. (Truth be told, I haven't been that good this year anyway.)

There is so much going on in America right now I thought they would be too busy passing bills and spending trillions of dollars (is that how you spell it?) to bother bugging Santa. So I will be serving shoe leather in the dark this season.

I am thinking of leaving Facebook. I did enjoy it so but I can't find anything on my site any more, but other people and ads seem not to have that same problem. Strange things are appearing and an uncomfortable series of pictures of children posing for the camera with no background clues have surfaced. I will ask Matt to clean this site up one more time and if that does not do it I'm out of there.

What about Thanksgiving? I'm off to chase and catch a turkey before 'they' notice they are in the stores for 33 cents a pound.

And, it's snowing...
