That tonight's gonna be a good night? No, don't worry, as much as I'd like to, I'm not posting that Black Eyed Peas song. Completely unrelated intro to this post. A bit cheery, but the Buffetlibre remix of Dragonette's Easy. It's from their new album Fixin to Thrill which I'm ashamed to say I haven't got yet. I'm a huge Dragonette fan regardless of how pop you're going to say they sound. The Mr. Vega remix of Popskarr Tonight, which sounds like an 80's revival type remix. I actually had to double check that Popskarr wasn't actually from the 80's, I've never heard of them before. To my surprise they're actually from South Africa; DJ Lapse whom I've posted multiple times before is the producer and IAMWAVES does the vocals. And lastly, the Tits & Clits remix of Royksopp Tricky Tricky. The track is tricky indeed, it sounds like it's going to be awfully club/techno sounding, but it does a 180 right after the intro. Okay maybe not a 180, it does a 45...

How was your Halloweens? Unfortunately I didn't get a post up that night, as I was out, but I'm still going through mixes to post for the event (late). Although I didn't get any Halloween-themed mixes, I'll make do with what I have. First off is from last week, one of the bigger hits which caught my ears, The White Panda mash-up of T.I.'s What You Know and Passion Pit's Little Secrets. Amazing mash-up. Second is from the Immuzikation mix I posted last week. I totally missed the track, the Fred Falke remix of Grizzly Bear. Friends, Romans, 'Lectro kids....Salutations!

'Tis been a week since we last talked, I hope you all survived your weekend with only a few scratches and bumps. Send some feedback on what you were doing; let's make this site a bit more socially interactive...
Alright, guys, this week you're gettin spoiled. I've received tons of good stuff and I am willing to exhibit all of it in the coming days. The centre piece of this week's posts is a Brooklyn based band called Peephole. These guys really caught my attention. There are a lot of so-called Indie Dance bands nowadays, since it's the thing to do, however not many stand out like these guys. I kind of want to say that they remind of Friendly Fires, but I would only go as far as putting them in them in the same category of "Really F*ckin Good Contemporary Bands that I Enjoy Listening to Every Day" or "RFGCBIELED" for short. Today I shall post their EP "Strawberry Told Me", and Wednesday I will follow up with the other EP "Cold Dime." These guys WILL blow up...

I haven't posted about Immuzikation in a long time, it actually makes me sad that I haven't. But alas, a mix from Alfredo with 39 tracks in 15 minutes. When I saw that, my initial reaction was "this is going to be way too busy", I'm not always a big fan of mashup mixes, but it actually worked out amazingly. He was nice enough to include a very comprehensive tracklist which will come in handy cause these tracks are great. Basically everything I want to hear in a night in 15 minutes. Included three tracks, back in player form, his own remix of Metric's Help, I'm Alive. I absolutely love the mashup between Treasure Fingers and Santigold which leads into the synth he uses a couple times in the mix. Also included DJ Mehdi's Tunisia Bambaata and the Chromeo remix of Treasure Fingers. Also love the transition from K.I.M.'s Party Machini into MSTRKRFT, listened to that one a couple times.

Damn, sorry for being comatose for the last two weeks, I feel even worse about missing emails that people sent me. I definitely missed some stuff going through pages of emails, but luckily my co-writer Sasha was on the ball this whole time. He caught some real gems. But I will have more time now and will work hard on the blog once again! Halloween is coming up, there should be some awesome tracks that will surface for the occasion. Serious business.

Josh and Kyle, also known as NightWaves or the writers over at Binary have gotten some fucking amazing artists to remix their track Fascination from their album LA Nights. I won't post all the remixes, but some of my favorite ones. It'll be more than my normal three. Included the original which is great, everything I love. I guess I just love dreamwave... or Binary... They got Keenhouse (I guess that one would've been sooner or later), We Plants Are Happy Plants, MMMatthias, Bit Funk, Junkie XL among others to do the remixes. Can I say, everything I wanted? KEENHOUSE!!! Got too excited there... I posted the MMMatthias remix of the track last week which you can check out if you haven't already. I had no idea there was a whole line of remixes, I need to do more research. Again, comatose. Check them out, and check out the compilation album (Amazon).

Does Tuesday really equal Bluesday? Well if it does for you then you need to read the email I got yesterday *all wit/suggestions/comments are credited to Cory Bergen*: "So... Today is Tuesday and Tuesday has no raison d'etre. If you're unfamiliar with the term, Wikipedia it, because it is Tuesday and you feel like ass, so you might as well learn something. To keep your Tuesday from sucking any further, I offer you art from Baron Von Luxxury via the Burning Hotels titled "Stuck In The Middle (Baron Von Luxxury Controls Everything)".

...and he was right! My sucky Tuesday was better. Now, to make your WEDNESDAY better I recommend listening to this track because it really is that good.

Next up is the track we've been waiting for a couple of weeks to come out...It's A-Trak's remix of "Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll." I've already gotten really sick of this one, but A-Trak did a great job bringin it back to life. It is most definitely the best remix of the song and a fail safe way to rock a set. To finish off I would like to deviate from Electronic music completely and show you a dope Hip-Hop joint called "(We Are) Champions" by Hey Champ and The Cool Kids....if you heard The Cool Kids' first album, you'll know it's proper hip hop and we all know how good "Cold Dust Girl" by Hey Champ was...so let's all revel in this diversity and show the world that in music we CAN coexist :D

First and foremost, I would like to say that I'm sorry for being a douche and not posting Part Deux last week, but you know what? I'ma make it up to you, beauts, by hookin you up with some real sicksicksicksicksick tracks...

To start off, I wanna present to you an unassumingly huge banger called "Thango" by Swedish Producer and DJ Filip Le Frick....and we all know what Swedish house means: Bring your Party to the MAX and then drop big-ass basslines!!! This what y'all serious DJs should do with this track!! 'Nuff said, this track's the ish...so grab it off Beatport. The next track I'm givin you is a REAL fuckin gem called "Spanda" off the Spanda EP. It's by the Latvian producer Max Brannslokker. If you like a nice Prog track, this definitely gonna tickle your ear drums in all sorts of ways....please make sure to check out the rest of the EP on Spanda Records...

AND now for the Piece de Resistance, I give you, with great pleasure, once again la ZEBRA and this time with "Staruday Night"....BOOM. Alright, time for another Weekend Update. Hopefully things get less busy and there'll actually be more posts in between our weekend updates... rather than just having the updates. Soon my friends, soon. Reverting a little, here's the Treasure Fingers "Epicwave" remix of Little Boots. I was going to say that "oh, way back when I posted the original Treasure Fingers remix of this track", but this is their only remix. I literally scoured the whole blog looking for it, the original remix I was thinking of was the Fake Blood remix of Stuck on Repeat. Completely different. I love what they did to the track, it's the little things that count. Next is the MMMatthias remix of NightWaves, thanks Sheena Beaston for the track, I totally stalk your blog. Gave some attention to NightWaves a while back, this sounds quite different. Given that it's a remix, not a huge surprise, I really like it actually. And lastly, the 80Kidz remix of 8otto's AF, too many random letters and numbers! This time thanks to Too Many Sebastians.

Yes Giantess

I'm a tad late on this one, this Boston-based four piece slipped right through my music scope. Strangely enough, they're exactly the music I love; retro synthpop. Pop might be too harsh of a term. Shamefully to my music-blogging ego, I actually had Yes Giantess suggested to me by a friend. They remind me of a mix between Passion Pit, Moulinex, and Keenhouse. Basically if Passion Pit had an additional band member from the French House scene who dedicated himself to turning the band into a retro 90's electropop group. Pop is a bit harsh of a word to use. Although lyrically and musically, they've created quite bubbly tracks.

Can't Help It, the damn song is just so cheery it makes you want to dance. Sounding straight out of what should've been a 90's sequel to The Goonies (too specific?), You Were Young was also pretty cheery. I think there's a trend here. It's unfortunate that all this great music is only coming up now, I'd love to see these songs in soundtracks to 90's family action movies. I didn't include Tuff'n Stuff, another track with similar lyrics to Can't Help It; girls and the L-word... not lesbian. This would be a whole different band otherwise.

Fully embracing the keyboards, these four are part of the indie electro movement which has been slowly traveling mainstream since MGMT, Friendly Fires, The Presets, Cut Copy, among many others. Yes Giantess is just starting to truly materialize, the true test will to see the material they release for their debut album. I'm excited, no pressure.

Lots goin on this week, and definitely this weekend. That is why it's a two part update...
To start off i got "Ducksauce - aNYway" THE VIDEO, which super fuckin cool...way to show respect to MJ et. al, A-Trak and Armand. I'm gonna go ahead and put "aNYway" on the same level as "You don't know me". This decade REALLY needed it. Funny how Armand van Helden has his fingers in it again. BTW, Armand, if you even read this, thank you for signing my copy of "You don't know me"...my childhood dream came true. Shit's better than Disneyland.
Too keep things DISCO-esque I'm posting D-Soulz - Free Your Mind...it puts me back into the time when House was pure and groovy and just so so seducing that you wanted to do it right then and there. D-Soulz made a great track with very funky New York style elements that only the English know how to manipulate...it was born for Ibiza! I'm not sure why, but I was totally into these weird sounds last night. I don't typically try to post the club side of the spectrum of electro music, but I couldn't get over these tracks. Not that I'm opening the flood gates to club music on my end, a lot of it still rubs me the wrong way. I've been hoping to get a writer who'd post more club, no luck yet. To the music! Epic intro, I thoroughly enjoyed the Valerna remix of Knightstalker. Just as weird, the Dada Life remix "Guerilla Fart" of Simian Mobile Disco's Audacity of Huge featuring Chris Keating for the vocals. And lastly, the Ryan Nexus remix of The Crystal Method featuring Emily Haines? That's a strange jump from her, or maybe not strange enough. Au Revoir Simone doing electro remixes might be stranger. There you go, three tracks that left me wonder how far you could push synthesizers...

Arg! Finally back. Chromeo released a new single last week Night By Night, meaning a new album! It's been two years since their last album Fancy Footwork and this is the first original track since then. They did an Eagles cover in July, I Can't Tell You Why. Nice to see their up to their old doings. I included a link where you can get the track, Green Label Sound? Didn't know Chromeo got signed with Pepsi... or that Pepsi even had a "label". Maybe it's just deceiving advertising.

It's a known fact that Canada's most influential electronic music has, so far, come from the East in the form of MSTRKRFT, A-TRAK, Deadmau5 etc...BUT (and this one's bigger than Kim Kardashian's), my fair people of the music cyber community, Vancouver ain't sleepin and is growing vastly with its own 'Lectro exports. I can say, with major confidence, that DJ Timeline has been the Electro pioneer in this part of the continent. He's been rockin the sound when !!Hedkandi!! was still considered techno in this region...

I gotta admit I had a bit of a chuckle when I saw the video for SHWAYZE - Get U Home (VIKING remix); quality soft-core is always soooo much better than good ol' hardcore! I'm not gonna say much more about the video because you have to see it...and that's that! I really dig VIKING's remix simply because it throws the concept of the song right into your face with massive Electro basslines. Definitely worth including in your set and demos....
Another VIKING remix you absolutely HAVE HAVE HAVE to own is his contribution to The Sounds' "No One Sleeps When I'm Awake"....you may think it starts out very happy and electro-generic, but you got another thing comin. It's fuckin sick. Straight up, people. I'm kinda sad that I found out about it late-ish, but hey, better late than never, right? Reminds me of when I discovered Red Hot Chili Peppers' "If You Want Me To Stay" (I'm not sharing this one, because I want you ALL to go out and buy "Freaky Stylely")....and with all these tunes, i hope you have a good day, and remember it's flu season, so grab a coat and wash your hands often...

I've been holding off for a while now reviewing this album. I keep on expecting more surprises, and definitely not making the same mistake I made for The Stroke's First Impressions of Earth where I judged the album right off the bat. A couple months later, my feelings towards the album changed completely from irritating to the ears to falling in love. Similarly, although not to that extreme, I found myself going through the same motions with this album. At first, I didn't really think much of it. I heard a couple tracks, it was alright, there's a lot of indie bands out there. But the more I listened the album, the more it grew on me. Yes, I'm totally one of "those people", but honestly the album is great and deserves the credit. These British teenagers really got things right, the album itself is well-rounded, both musically and lyrically. Singing about love, sex, really whatever you want it to be. There's a great dynamic from beginning to end. As an album, I'm quite impressed and didn't hesitate giving it a 9/10. In a way, you have to look at it as an album.

Each track have their own unique characters, unlike some of those albums or artists you've heard where you can't really distinguish songs apart. Maybe it's the fact that they have dual vocalists? Intro is a great intro (were they trying to be funny?) to the album. Too often I hear either a disorganized album with no beginning or end, or an album with the most obscure sounds for an introduction. The xx hit it just right, dreamlike instrumental shoegaze. VCR, Crystalised, and Heart Skipped A Beat may be my favorite tracks from the album. I sound uncertain because it's hard to choose, and my mind keeps on changing about it. VCR might have my favorite introduction to a song, the xylophone sounding keyboard or whatever they're using is such a great addition. The three tracks as well as Basic Space and Infinity have such good dynamics between Oliver and Romy.

Not gonna lie to ya, I did get a bit school-girl giddy when I opened my inbox this week and learned that there's a new Friendly Fires track out. I'm sure you're all familiar with my love for them, sooooo if you happen to be in Vancouver on Nov. 26, they're staging a concert at Venue. So COME, and don't be shy to buy me a beer. You never know, we might end up buddies for life.

ANYWAYS, I digress. "Kiss of Life" is their new release and Spiral into the Storm did a great job remixing it with dashes of House, Dub Step and very epic sounds. Quite frankly, it's one of the better remixes I've heard this year because it keeps you guessing to the end. Very very very good eclectic remix, and Eclecticism is the new Electro....heard it here FIRST!!!!
Number 2, this week, from me is off a new label called Play Me Records, founded by long time DJs Reid Speed and Mark Subsonik. They're huge into Dub Step and that's their main export. Mais, mes amis, I did get a nice, very very VERY NICE, Malo Electro remix of Lea Luna's "Leaving for Mars" which will incinerate some floors in the near future. So make sure to check out all the other stuff they got to offer, especially if Dub Step tickles your fancy (I never figured this proverb out, what if your fancy is of the testicular kind?).....KTHXBYE

At least over here it is. Apologies for the irregular posts, school stuff has me pretty strapped. Damn you school! First off is the Fred Falke remix of Burns' First Move. No vocals, quite the long track. Although it was somewhat repetitive, which can be expected from an almost eight minute track, I enjoyed it. Second is The Knocks remix of Master Shortie. Don't complain about the quality of the file, it's good but doesn't sound it. And lastly, the Aeroplane remix of Au Revoir Simone. Finally, my life is complete. Ever since their remix of Friendly Fires featuring Au Revoir Simone, I've been hungry for more. By the way, guess the movie.

Seriously, stop it. If you're going to sport those things, you might as well take on the whole grandma attire. Now for the tracks, I mainly chose these because they sounded funky... or well interesting. First is the CSS remix of Fever Ray's Seven. I'll pay more attention towards Fever Ray, the alias for Karin from The Knife. Also hooray for a new CSS remix, I haven't seen one in such a long time. As always, I love the weird sounds they come up with. Very unorthodox. Second is the Sampha remix of The xx's Basic Space. I've actually been listening to their album for a while now, just about ready to write a review about it. Had to really let this one set in, I really like it. And lastly, the Joakim remix of Metronomy. To the DJ's out there, good luck mixing this track in, it changes it's beat so many times.

Usually I'm not a fan of crossover artists when it comes to DJ-ing, simply because I think they use one medium to make in the other and I like to be a bit black and white over that matter. Maybe I'm just a snob and will end up as either Waldorf or Statler. HOWEVER, Odissi just may have changed that. The bonafide Suicide Girl is releasing "Empty Vodka Bottles" via Lot49 and if you know your Prog/Tech House you know that those guys don't muck around with their music. The Twelves up in the North East

Well, The Twelves have made it up here. Can't be sure if it's their first time touring up in Canada, but it's certainly the first I've heard of it since I've heard of them back in '07. This is the second half of their tour of sorts, they've already made it to the west coast. Just to get you a little prepped for the show and for those of you who are still weary about going, here's two tracks ripped from their older live shows thanks Too Many Sebastians. Their remix of Daft Punk's Aerodynamic which ends with Scenario Rock's Skitzo Dancer and of Radiohead's There There. Also check out the video of them playing. They actually play live? We'll see if they actually try that hard this time around, we're all used to those DJ's who lazily flip through songs on their computer. What's this live music making stuff? Blasphemy. Another mix from Buffetlibre! I always look forward to these things, although the things with mixes are sometimes they're meticulously put together, almost obsessively, and sometimes they're a bit more slack and more like what I'd like to consider a very good radio show. And this seems to be one of those cases. That might be a failed attempt at a compliment. Very chill-out mix. From Buffetlibre, "On 25 July 2005 a bit of us had to be kept in our memories forever. The closing of Cibeles Theater carried the end of Mond Club and so, the end of the coolest nights in Barcelona. Despite the huge clubbing offer in the city, the synergy of the theater and the club marked a golden age that we still love to recall, with wistful smile and wet eyes, with whom shared those moments with us. Almost ten years after its opening, Buffetlibre DJ's has joined Buenavista, resident of Mond Club and one of the best dj’s from Barcelona, to pay homage to some of the most memorable nights in our life." Great stuff.

Included three tracks, two of which are remixes. And that isn't because I'm used to posting remixed, I actually liked the two the most in the mix. I guess I'm prone to remixes. But there are definitely some gems in this tracklist. First is Ladytron's Playgirl which definitely caught my ears, of course it's Ladytron. The two remixes, the Cajmere remix of The Juan Maclean and Les Rythmes Digitales (also known as Jacques Lu Cont) remix of Cassius. Love these remixes. I was going to post the extended disco mix of Annie's The Greatest Hit, which was mislabeled Royskopp remix, but I had no way of getting it.

Vancouver's own Felix Cartal has finally released "Drone." It was much anticipated and now, us DJ mortals, can also enjoy making people lose their shit to it a la Felix da Housecat. The track is extremely hard hitting and a definite progress from "Skeleton" where, yeah, you did get the point, but it just was not driving it home. This young fella is really stepping up in the ranks which is a comfortingly promising fact that kids from Canada are a force to be reckoned with in the Electro Circuit.

Up & Coming...Down & Dirty

I've been feelin Friendly Fires huge this year...without a doubt the best new band. First time i heard them was via GRUM's remix of "Skeleton Boy" which also ended up being one of my favourite tracks in 2009. Please make sure check it out if you haven't already. "Photobooth" reminds a bit of Prince in his 1999-era...funky and buzzing with a bassline that has an attitude problem.
Even though he started out with a reality TV show, Shwayze really surprised me with his music and The Bloody Beetroots did an amazing job with "Get U Home." There's enough Acid and Electro for everyone to go around and still be enjoyable when you're not headbanging in the club. Alright people, have yourselves a dope Wednesday...and see ya before the weekend
