Happy new year all! Sorry for not doing a top 10 this year, mainly because I don’t think I even listened to more than 10 new albums released from the year. Anyways, suggested by a friend, this got my attention pretty quickly. That’s pretty big because lately music hasn’t really gotten my attention. I’m obviously looking in the wrong places. I didn’t even know the indie electro scene in Japan went this direction, other than artists like Shinichi Osawa, but even then AMWE sounds more like electro artists from Belgium or the Netherlandsm at least in her first album I Am AMWE. I can’t exactly say the same thing about her more recently album Girls, seems like the record labels may have molded her a bit towards pop although it’s still great. Anyways, summing up my feelings about this; I love it. I’m only posting tracks from her first album this time around, I think my favorites from it would be Red Fascination, the obvious Friction Between The Lovers, and Bangin’ The Drum.

New Moullinex. I’m ecstatic. I love the build-up of his remix of Voltaire Twins Romulus, amazing track I can’t stop listening to. It’s the little things that count when it comes to Moullinex. You have to listen to the original as well, I’ve never heard of the Voltaire Twins but they’re sounding great on their own. Also included some of his other recent tracks, the remix of Gigamesh and of his original Sunflare.

Well, if I’ve never mentioned before; I’m doing my Masters in Science and I’m getting close to completing it aka shit’s hitting the fan. I just finished my big presentation, so all is calm for now until I have to start writing my thesis. Before any of that, holidays come first and the blog just got pushed back to near the top. Listening to music again, I actually haven’t really listened to much other than the big albums that came out recently for the last month. First time listening to Hype Machine in a while and hearing some great tracks, first on the list is the Adventure Club remix of Metric’s Collect Call which strangely reminds me of Ellie Goulding‘s Starry Eyed. The originals are vaguely similar, but the remix makes it a lot closer for me. Strangely enough, the Adventure Club remix is dubstep, but I don’t hate it. Very strange. Posting the Russ Chimes remix of Ellie Goulding with this. Next track is the Ipaneema mash-up Rock your Weapon at the Cinema which has the Madeon remix of Deadmau5‘s Raise Your Weapon, the Skrillex remix of Benny Benassi‘s Cinema, and a little shout out to MJ Rock With You at the beginning. I was going to post the Madeon remix as well because it’s such a great remix but I already posted it a while back. Lastly, the Royskopp remix of Kings of Leon The Immortals, intro threw me off a bit but what a great track.

Four tracks for you all! The Knight One remix of LIGHTS is mind blowing in the calmest way ever, I’m really liking it. Really going for the retro sounding route, I love that route. I haven’t listened to her newest album Siberia yet, I’ll have to give it a shot though. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgot about the other albums I was going to write about, but you know what? I like letting albums sit, people who push out reviews two weeks before the album is released probably regret half the things they say. I hated the new Justice album for the first week I listened to it, but changed drastically afterwards. At least my indecisiveness is predictable! I’ve been meaning to post this track for a while now, the Le Castle Vania remix of Kaskade. I haven’t posted this kind of electro since what feels like last year, but Le Castle Vania makes amazing remixes. His other remix which he released recently of Split & Jaxta Roulette is harsher sounding, I really needed something fast like this though. And one from the hit list, the Cazzettes remix of Spencer & Hill Believe It. It’s more club, but whatever I really liked the track.

Well, here’s some stuff from some albums this year, before the year ends! From the new M83 album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. I’ve been meaning to post up a review on it which will soon happen, so I’ll save that for posting the original. Anyways, starting off with the Christian Strobe remix of Midnight City, the track I really can’t get enough of from their new album. This remix is the only one that I liked out of the bunch I hated, loving the original track made me much more subjective on the remixes. Second track is the Tensnake remix of Friendly Fires Hurting which is from their new album Pala. I haven’t listened to yet, but if it’s anything like their first one then I’ll be happy. Something to check out for sure. And lastly, the Theatre of Delays remix of The Rapture In The Grace of Your Love from their newest album In the Grace of Your Love. Haha, yeah. I actually really like this remix, it’s not fast or electro but it’s great on its own. Anyways, expect some sort of post or review of all three of these albums. I’ll add it to my calendar.

I have to get this off my chest before I start, if you liked anything about the hits from Justice‘s debut album then you’ve got another thing coming. That especially goes for those of you who only listened to Cross for the electro-pop tracks D.A.N.C.E., DVNO, or Tthhee Ppaarrttyy or the harsh electro tracks Genesis, Phantom, Stress or Waters of Nazareth. Did I just name off all the tracks from the first album? Pretty much! This album is more like Audio, Video, Disco, not enough Electro, but to be honest when has Justice ever described themselves as solely electro? We just assumed it as they were riding the French House movement and are signed with Ed Banger who seems to be the principal French label for releasing electronic-house music internationally, but looking at it now I feel this album is more true to Justice than the last one ever was. If you’ve ever heard any of Justice’s mixes, I’m talking about their famous Fabric Rejected Mix, or gone to their off-tour shows where half the people asked “wait, aren’t they going to play D.A.N.C.E.? What is this stuff they’re play now?!”, then you’d understand that they’ve always been this.

The album starts off with Horsepower and Civilization, which you assume is the direction they’re starting to take with all this talk about the album being so different. It is in a sense still similar to some of the harsher sounding electro tracks from their first album, which I actually think sounds great. Little do you know they’re only easing you into how much they’ve changed as you come across Ohio and Canon, which I had to double check that my iTunes wasn’t on shuffle and that I was listening to a Pink Floyd track I had never heard before. I actually had to triple check, so now we hit the 80′s progressive rock section. The tracks are awesome, but sadly I have a feeling they will be criticized for not being “Justice” enough, in other words no one is playing these tracks in clubs. Then we come across the synth rock section with On’n'On, Brainvision, Parade, and Newlands. They’re definitely tracks I’d prefer to chill out or work out to than rock out to in a club. And ending off with one of the better tracks in the album, Helix which actually sounds like Justice and Daft Punk had a child, an awesome child. It’s the only track from this album I’d consider truly electro, it also sounds like it should be in the opening cinematic of a Halo game. The last track to end off the album is Audio, Video, Disco which I have to admit I wasn’t very impressed with when I first heard it. It lacked a lot of what I liked about Justice but it totally grew on me since first listening to it.

Favorite tracks would have to be Horsepower, Civilization, Parade, and Helix, which all seem to be the harder sounding tracks of the album. I’ve never really liked the soft ballad sounding songs in any music so it’s not that the other tracks are bad, just my taste in music. I’ll have to finish this review off by saying you shouldn’t listen to this album expecting the Justice you’ve heard before. Walk in with a blank slate and you’ll enjoy it a lot, the album is solid once you do that. Or maybe you’ll hate it!

So, my life is going 50 miles per second. Schools catching up on me and it seems my stuff is more interesting than I thought. I wish I had more time to listen to music because that world is becoming more and more exciting, I’m anticipating a good year. That’s my excuse, take it. New Feist album, I know, isn’t this an electro blog? No! Not completely. Also the new Justice album which I’m hoping is great despite that awful remix. Yeah okay, that’s about it, but I have good vibes. I totally missed the new SebastiAn and Carte Blanche albums coming from Ed Banger, more stuff for me to catch up on. I decided today not to post the newest tracks out there, but ones by my favorite musicians/producers. First is the Falcon Punch edit of Moullinex Lover In Me Ah Moulinex, how I miss thee. Please do some more remixes, I know your original stuff is great and probably more important but your remixes were pure gold. Second is the Breakbot remix of Pnau Baby which I was shown is on the GT5 soundtrack. And lastly, the Robotaki remix of Kavinsky. Old but still, I love everything Robotaki makes. Seems to be time for my bimonthly post. I really don’t mean it to be bimonthly, but alas, time is limited on my side. Let’s start off with a Plastic Plates remix of The Magician featuring Jeppe. I’ve been posting a lot of Plastic Plates recently, I hope they keep it up. I’ve seen too many of my favorite remix producers either just fade out or go solo and it’s just not the same. I know, there’s no glory in producing remixes, but god damn I love them. Second up is the VillA remix of BENI featuring Mattie Safer Someone Just Like You which has an absolutely amazing beat. Fuck why don’t I hear that more often? Did retro die or something? It’s all this dubstep and textbook techno shit coming out. Which brings me to the last remix, I’m joking I’m joking!! It might be another remix of Foster the People Pumped Up Kicks, but Bridge & Law did a great job doing it. I really liked how the remix flowed, there were some real gem moments in the track, especially when they got creative unlike the majority of the other remixes of this song.

Er, new Justice track Audio, Video, Disco from their new album of the same name which is due out for October 25 this year. I guess it’s appropriate for it to sound a bit like it should be at a Halloween party given its release date… yeah I know that’s not their intention! Not sure how I feel about this one though, I definitely like Civilization better and am hoping for more of that style in the album than this although I doubt that’s happening given the album is named after this track. Oh well, here’s hoping.
