BlackBerry maker Research In Motion is reportedly preparing for a major restructuring beginning in the next couple of weeks that will see it eliminate between 2000 and 6000 jobs worldwide.

The layoffs were reported by the Globe and Mail on Saturday, citing unnamed sources.

The Canadian newspaper, citing several people close to the company, reported that the next round is layoffs is said to be planned for around June 1 - a day before the smartphone maker's first quarter ends - but some expect the announcement even earlier.
Advertisement: Story continues below

One source close to the company told Reuters the impending layoffs could hit as many as 6000 people and affect RIM's legal, marketing, sales, operations, and human resources divisions.

"The strategic question is: are you accelerating into a better future or shrinking to a niche operation?" said the source, who declined to be identified due to the sensitive nature of the job cuts.

A RIM spokeswoman contacted by Reuters declined to comment on the report.

But she pointed to comments that new chief executive Thorsten Heins and chief financial officer Brian Bidulka made on RIM's last earnings call about plans to streamline operations and save $US1 billion in the fiscal year.

The spokeswoman said RIM now has about 16,500 staff globally. This is down from a peak closer to 20,000.

RIM reported a fourth-quarter loss in March, when the new CEO announced the initial steps in a strategic overhaul. Heins took over from longtime co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie in January.

Once the dominant player in the wireless e-mail sector, RIM has lost market share due to fierce competition from Apple's iPhone and phones running on Google's Android software.

RIM has already been through one round of restructuring. Last July it announced plans to cut about 11 per cent of its workforce, or 2000 jobs.

A string of high-level employees have departed RIM recently, including global head of sales Patrick Spence, who was set to take a senior job at audio company Sonos.

Several sources close to the company told Reuters RIM had been letting more junior staff go for several months in what has come to be known internally as "Goodbye Thursdays," because the cuts typically occurred on that day of the week.

The job cuts have failed to boost the company's stock. On Thursday RIM shares hit a multi-year low of $C10.87 on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The stock changed hands for more than $C150 in 2008. - Reuters

Oh wow.. this is rather shocking news. But then again he is already so rich by now. It seems he is already aware that he is already past his prime.

The British celebrity footballer is no longer Major League Soccer's highest-paid player after his salary was cut nearly 40 per cent in his new contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The former England captain has a base salary of US$3mil (RM9mil) this year and guaranteed compensation of US$4mil (RM12mil), according to figures released by the MLS Players Union.

His previous base salary had been US$5.5mil (RM16.5mil) with total annual compensation of US$6.5mil (RM19.5mil) under a US$32.5mil (RM97.5mil), five-year contract that expired after the 2011 season.

New York's Thierry Henry became the league's highest-paid player, with a base salary of US$5mil (RM15mil) and total compensation of US$5.6mil (RM16.8mil).

Source: Agencies

Have you ever eaten human meat? It seems many had tasted it in Southwest China when one guy sold human meat of 20 teens.

Police in southwest China have detained a man suspected of murdering more than a dozen boys and young men, chopping up their bodies and selling the flesh to unsuspecting consumers.

Zhang Yongming, 56, was detained two weeks ago in Nanmen village in Yunnan province and is being investigated over the murder of a 19-year-old man in late April, the Guangxi News website reported.

Police searching Zhang's home found the young man's cellphone, bank card and other evidence, according to the website, which said more than a dozen other teenagers had gone missing from the village over the years.

It said Zhang had previously served almost 20 years in jail for murder.

Zhang was known in the village as the "cannibal monster," the site reported, quoting residents as saying they had seen green plastic bags hanging from his home, with what appeared to be white bones protruding from the top.

Local police declined comment when contacted by AFP Friday, saying information would be made available "at an appropriate time", and other reports on the gruesome case appeared to have been removed from Chinese websites.

But Hong Kong newspaper The Standard said Friday that police entering Zhang's home discovered human eyeballs preserved inside wine bottles and pieces of what appeared to be human flesh hanging in the house to dry.

Police feared that Zhang had fed human flesh to his three dogs, while selling other parts on the market, calling it "ostrich meat", according to The Standard.

Beijing has dispatched a team of experts to Yunnan to supervise the investigation into the missing teenagers and two local police chiefs have been dismissed from their positions, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Families of the missing suspected that they had been kidnapped and forced to work in illegal brick kilns, Xinhua said, adding that the government had urged a swift resolution to the case.
A stary dog has been following a team of cyclists for 20 days over 1,700 kilometres from Sichuan province to Lhasa in Tibet, China.

Nobody knows where the white dog came from or how long she has been wandering on the road, said Zhang Heng - a 22-year-old student from Wuhan in Hubei province.

He was riding to Lhasa with his buddies when they met the lonely dog on May 4.

"She looked tired and was lying on the road around Yajiang, Sichuan province," Zhang Heng told China Daily. "So we fed her, and then she followed us."

They thought the dog was following for fun, but found she insisted on sticking around them day and night.

"We felt she might want to come with us, so we decided to bring her along," said Zhang Heng, adding they call it Xiao Sa by combining xiao (little) with the last syllable of Lhasa.

During their journey, the cycling team and Xiao Sa covered more than 1,700-kilometre and climbed over 10 mountains higher than 4,000-metre.

"Many people stopped cycling in some sections, then took the bus but the dog continued.

"Sometimes she ran too fast and was far ahead of us, when she couldn't see anyone, she ran back to find us," said Zhang Heng.

Zhang Heng said he would put Xiao Sa at the back of the bike while going downhill or when it was really tired. "The speed can reach 70km per hour, it's hard for the dog to catch up with us."

Zhang Heng and his buddies have opened a Weibo account for Xiao Sa, updating the canine's journey to Lhasa,

The micro blog "GoGo Xiao Sa" has attracted nearly 47,000 followers in two weeks.

On Thursday, the team and Xiao Sa have finally arrived in Lhasa.

Zhang Heng wrote on his Weibo that he planned to bring Xiao Sa back to Wuhan.

Images: Weibo

Source: China Daily/ANN

KOTA KINABALU: The “Borneonisation suit” brought by two Sabahans against the Federal and State governments, for failing to Borneonise federal agencies in Sabah passed its first test yesterday when the High Court rejected a government application to throw out the case.

Justice David Wong Dak Wah dismissed the application of both the first and second respondents’ to strike out the suit brought by the duo last year. He fixed June 18 as a new mention date for the case which will test the relevancy of Sabah’s special rights and autonomy in the Federation of Malaysia.

The judge in dismissing the respondents’ application ruled that contrary to the respondents’ contention, the Sabahan duo do have locus standi to sue the government in regards to their rights in relation to non-compliance of the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Former police inspector Bernard Fung Fon Chen, 70, and former teacher Mohd Nazib Maidan Dally, 35, filed the suit last year through their counsel Peter Marajin, seeking a declaration from the court that the first defendant had failed and/or neglected to expeditiously and fully carry out the Borneonisation of the federal public service in the state.

They are also seeking a declaration that the second defendant had failed and/or neglected to fully implement the assurance, undertakings and the recommendations contained in the Report of the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC), 1962 dated Feb 27, 1963 in so far as the assurances, undertakings and recommendations relating to the Borneonisation of the federal public service in the state and which are not implemented by express provision of the Constitution of Malaysia.

Chen and Mohd Nazib are also seeking a declaration that the first defendant had failed and/or neglected to advise Yang di-Pertuan Agong under Article 153 (2) of the Federal Constitution to ensure the reservation for the natives of the State of Sabah such reasonable number of positions in the public service of the Federal Government, particularly in the Federal departments in the state.

Apart from that, they are further seeking a declaration that the first defendant had failed to fully implement the specific assurance and recommendation in paragraph 7 of Annex B to the IGC Report that the Chief Minister of the second defendant shall be consulted before the Federal Cabinet shall advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the reservation of reasonable number of positions in the federal public services for the natives of the state.

The duo is also seeking a declaration that the second defendant had failed to take such executive or other appropriate action as shall be necessary to implement the assurance and recommendation contained the IGC Report that before advice by the Federal Cabinet is given to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in respect of the exercise of his power under Article 153 such advice in relation to the state of Sabah shall be given only after consultation with the Chief Minister of the State of Sabah.

Another relief sought by the two plaintiffs are a declaration that the natives of Sabah or the people belonging to the State of Sabah have legitimate expectations that the Borneonisation of the federal public service in the state in terms of the assurances and undertakings in the IGP Report shall be fully and expeditiously implemented, costs and other relief as the court may deem fit and proper to grant.

Chen in his affidavit said that he joined the North Borneo police team in 1960 as a constable and was later promoted to the rank of inspector in 1966 and confirmed in the post in 1968. He said that after serving as an inspector for 13 years and serving with the police team for 19 years and six months, he resigned in 1980 as he was disappointed that he was not considered for promotion to a higher rank.

He claimed that although he had the qualification and was committed to his work, he was denied promotion to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

“Although there were vacancies from time to time in Sabah and other parts of Malaysia, the vacancies had only been allocated to officers from the peninsula even though there were many qualified Sabahans like me who were ready to fill the vacancies,” he said.

Given the promises and assurance given to the people of Sabah in 1962 and 1963 by the previous leaders and the British colonial government to implement the Borneonisation in the civil services, he said, the Federal and State Governments why it had failed to fulfil these conditions and promises. He tendered among others, the Malaysia Agreement dated July 7, 1963, Malaysia Act 1963, and the 20 points memorandum to justify his expectations

Meanwhile, Mohd Nazib in his affidavit said that he was an attachment teacher at SK Ulu Bole, Sipitang from 2002 to 2004. However, Mohd Nazib, who is now self-employed, claimed that he tried very hard on three occasions to be accepted into the courses during school holidays, to be trained as a teacher, but in early 2005 his teaching job was abruptly terminated due to the discrimination in the recruitment of teachers by the Federal Government.

“As far as I know, there were teachers from the peninsula who were posted to various schools in Sipitang and other parts in Sabah after my service was terminated,” he said.

He said that the termination of his service was unconscionable because there were vacancies in the school he was teaching in and other schools in Sabah.

Mohd Nazib claimed that there were 5,245 unemployed graduates and diploma holders in Sabah.

“These qualified Sabahans could have been employed in the federal service. But only 38.33 percent of the federal heads of department in Sabah are of Sabah origin,” he said. He also claimed that only 77.9% of the 66,597 federal civil servants in Sabah are of Sabah origin and this excludes the armed forces.

Mohd Nazib said that he had no option except to seek legal action to make sure that the contractual rights, promises, undertakings and assurances in the Malaysia Agreement 1963, the Malaysia Act 1963, the IGC Report, the Twenty Point Memorandum and the Memorandum of the Malaysia Solidarity Consultative Committee on Malaysia submitted to the Cobbold Commission and the Federal Constitution of Malaysia are implemented to the full.

Both Chen and Mohd Nazib along with Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president, Yong Teck Lee and other SAPP leaders were at the High Court yesterday. - Luke Rintod, FreeMalaysiaToday

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika said he would not mind if the planned concert of Lady Gaga was moved from Jakarta to Bali, as long as the police guaranteed security at the event.

"I think it`s no problem, if they are willing to follow our regulations. It should not disturb the norms existing in Bali and Indonesia," the governor said here on Tuesday, in response to suggestions that the concert be held in Bali.

Chairman of the Bali Regional Legislative Council (DPRD)`s Commission I I Made Arjaya earlier said Bali was ready to host Lady Gaga`s concert.

"Although it was turned down in Jakarta, it`s different in Bali. We are open. Just move the concert to Bali. We are in fact happy because Bali will become more famous," he added.

"The visit of Lady Gaga, a singer who is famous among young people throughout the world, will help promote Bali`s tourism," Made Arjaya explained.

"We welcome her. The visit of Lady Gaga is purely for the sake of arts. We support her concert on this Island of Gods," the politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) said.

Ni Made Sumiati, a Balinese female politician, also welcomed the idea of moving the concert to Bali.

"Bali is dynamic, flexible. There is no problem in holding a concert in Bali. And I am sure it will not affect the morality of Balinese people. So why should we be worried?" she said.
(f001/INE )

WWW 1 the most expensive Car Plate No in Malaysia

There have been negotiations with police for about two hours and the result of that is that police are now prepared to interview him in his chambers rather than arresting him and taking him to a police station.

We were able to speak to Sir Salamo a short time ago; he says he's yet to decide whether he'll partake in that interview. He also said that he fears for his safety; he also fears for democracy in PNG - that what has happened today sets a terrible precedent for PNG in the years to come.

He also said that today's actions with Belden Namah clearly directing police to arrest him shows that the police aren't independent; they're not acting under the command of the police commissioner, but directly under the command of the deputy prime minister Belden Namah.

EDMOND ROY: So do they still recognise him as the chief justice?

LIAM FOX: They do recognise him as the chief justice; they're now trying to remove him. They have attempted to remove him several times over the last six or seven months by formally removing him from office, going through processes in Parliament; they have been stopped by the Supreme Court through stay orders.

At one stage they charged him with perverting the course of justice. The Supreme Court again stayed those proceedings. And these tensions came to a head again following the Supreme Court decision on Monday.

EDMOND ROY: I suppose the heart of it of course is the problem between Michael Somare and Peter O'Neill. Can this be resolved without that problem being resolved in the first place?

LIAM FOX: It's not clear how that could happen. This tension between them, this disagreement over who's the legitimate prime minister has gone on since August last year and it's unlikely, nigh on impossible to see those two getting together and sorting it out.

But what most people in PNG are hoping is that we will now, because the general election is due to be held in late June, that ultimately the people of Papua New Guinea will sort this out.

EDMOND ROY: What are the chances of this spilling out into a wider fight say between the judiciary, the military, the police and so on - which has happened before in PNG?

LIAM FOX: There's certainly a possibility of that happening. It seems at this stage that the majority of the police and the military are behind Peter O'Neill, so it's not apparent that there's any kind of split at the moment, though of course there was a split back in December when this first issue came to a head when the Supreme Court handed down its original decision.

So, as I said it's possible but at this stage unlikely that that could rapidly change in PNG.

EDMOND ROY: Liam Fox speaking from Port Moresby.

EDMOND ROY: Staying in PNG, our reporter Meredith Griffiths managed to speak with Justice Nicholas Kerriwom, in whose chambers the chief justice is now locked in.

NICHOLAS KERRIWOM: We are actually locked up in my chambers here in Port Moresby in the court house with chief justice and myself as we await police arresting officer to arrive and we'll be snapped up to interview the chief justice and to arrest him for sedition.

As of last night at 6 o'clock we were given 16 hours by the deputy prime minister to resign or face the consequences and he executed that this afternoon at about 1:30, or 2 o'clock when chief justice was (inaudible) in court. And he stormed in there with a couple of policemen, probably one other minister and started screaming at the chief justice and calling him names and ordering the police to arrest the chief justice.

And as the police headed towards the chief justice who was sitting on the bench he was forced to escape outside, get out of the court room while the associate barricaded the doorway and they chased him all the way to my chambers.

MEREDITH GRIFFITHS: So who is currently in the chambers with you; who is there?

NICHOLAS KERRIWOM: The chief justice and our lawyers.

MEREDITH GRIFFITHS: And what's the scene outside; do you know how many people are in the court or are near the offices? Do you know what's going on outside your doors?

NICHOLAS KERRIWOM: There must be something going on outside; can't be sure - let me see. There was army and police out there - yes they're still out there.

MEREDITH GRIFFITHS: How many people are outside?

NICHOLAS KERRIWOM: I'm not quite sure, I haven't actually stepped out but there was probably over 40 or 50 policemen and defence force personnel with high powered firearms.

MEREDITH GRIFFITHS: So how is the chief justice, is he okay at the moment?

NICHOLAS KERRIWOM: Yes he's okay now, he just finished an interview with the local media and he's now talking with the lawyers waiting for the arresting officer to arrive from the police station. So at least we were able to get the interview done here in the court premises rather than going down to the police station, which we feared very much, cos you don't know what's going to happen down there.

So, the commissioner was kind enough to allow the chief justice to be interviewed in his office by the arresting officer and that's what's happening, so we're waiting for the arresting officer to arrive.

MEREDITH GRIFFITHS: So are you afraid to leave the chambers at the moment?

NICHOLAS KERRIWOM: Well we're actually waiting for lawyers who are checking on things before they can tell us it's safe to move - so at the moment we're still stuck in the chambers.

MEREDITH GRIFFITHS: What does the chief justice say to the deputy prime minister who is calling for him to resign; what's the chief justice's reaction to that?

NICHOLAS KERRIWOM: We're currently appealing to the deputy prime minister to respect the constitution and allow the courts to function and discharge our constitutional responsibilities without fear or favour.

EDMOND ROY: Justice Nicholas Kerriwom speaking to Meredith Griffiths from his chambers at Papua New Guinea's Supreme Court.- ABC

Now, she is obviously looking for another opportunity to cash in," the statement added.

"This is a frivolous lawsuit for absurd claims that are made up and fabricated. Sharon Stone will be completely vindicated in court," it said.

Last year, the actress was ordered to pay $232,000 in compensation to a worker who injured his knee after slipping and falling in her backyard in 2006. -Manila Times

An Indonesian maid was brought to Singapore court for adding menstrual blood to her employer's coffee cup.

Jumiah, 24, who goes by one name, is said to have committed mischief by adding her menstrual blood into the cup of her 38-year-old male employer at a flat in Choa Chu Kang on Aug 31 last year.

The short and small-built domestic worker, who had been working for the employer for about a year, said through an Indonesian interpreter that she was pleading guilty.

Her case will be mentioned in a week's time.

Bail of S$5,000 (RM12,000) was offered.

Source: The Straits Times/ANN
Published May 24 2012

A man shared his story of going to Geylang with his 16-year-old daughter to tail his wife, who is having an affair.

Mr Chen (48, technician) laments that his wife, a 42-year-old hairstylist, has left home for more than a year and has abandoned their children.

He had suspected that his wife had got to know a man in his 50s, on a casino ship in 2009.

After an incident where he witnessed his wife and the man singing intimately together in a karaoke, his wife went missing by not showing up for work and changing her phone number.

After five months of searching, Mr Chen decided to engage a private investigator for help and found out that his wife had gone to co-habit with that man.

On top of that, the man's mistress had called Mr Chen's family to inform them about their mother having an affair.

The mistress told them that she has been with that man for 16 years and he is married with two adult daughters.

She had also been supporting the unemployed man and giving him money all these years.

Ironically, the woman had called with the intention of confronting Mr Chen's wife for having an affair with that man.

With information from the private investigator, Mr Chen took to tailing his wife, with his eldest daughter in tow, in hopes of catching the adulterous couple red-handed.

He has since witnessed his wife and the other man going in and out of a Geylang apartment acting like a couple.

He has also taken video recordings to prove that she is having an affair should their divorce go to court.

He received a lawyer's letter from his wife in December last year, asking for a divorce and to sell their house and split their assets.

Mr Chen's daughter is concerned with the request and asked, "Then where will my siblings and I stay?"

According to Mr Chen, he had bought their five-room flat seven years ago and it is now worth about S$400,000.

His wife had forked out only S$4,000 for the flat at that time and had never helped to pay the loans.

"But now she wants a share of the house and didn't even consider the interests of the children!" exclaimed Mr Chen.

Source: www.asiaone.com
Published March 22 2012

But it did not find favour with the people on the peninsula until Najib Razak, the prime minister, had a taste of it. Now demands for Sabah banana or Pisang Sabah in Malay have outstripped supply, according to Yahya Hussin, a deputy chief minister who heads the ministry of agriculture and food industry.

Saba is a hybrid of the genera Musa acuminata and balbisiana of the Cavendish group. Thus it has a mild tangy Cavendish taste. It stands out from other bananas because of its angular sides. It is between 8 and 13 cm long, about the length of a ballpoint pen, and looks rather stubby with a girth of between 2.5 and 5.5 cm. As a plantain, it is usually used to make fritters, chips and cakes.

Najib savoured a Sabah banana fritter during his walkabout at a Gaya Street coffee shop in Kota Kianbalu last year. He seemed to like its unique taste.

Yahya says that his ministry has long asked the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) to sell Sabah banana on the peninsula. But it was set back by high production and shipping costs which made Sabah banana uncompetitive.

A small trial shipment went to the southern Johor state in 2009 to test the market, followed by another in 2010, according to Sebastian Chew, the director of Fama in Sabah.

And Fama has achieved a breakthrough. Chew tells Insight Sabah that his agency made its maiden commercial shipment of Saba banana to the peninsula in March. And by the end of last month, 180 tonnes of the fruit costing 85,000 ringgit ($27,300) in ten containers have been sold to his peninsular customers.

This year Chew expects to sell about 300,000 ringgit worth of bananas to them, particularly those in Johor state whose banana plantations were hit hard by a mysterious disease in 2008. Manufacturers there turn the bananas into chips and condiments.

In fact, he has weekly orders for 80 tonnes of Saba banana from his peninsular customers. But farmers can only supply him with 40 tonnes every fortnight.

Recently, Fama signed a one-year contract with 150 farmers in Kudat, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Keningau and Tenom to grow and supply it with Saba banana. Chew says he can’t reveal the pricing but Fama guarantees the farmers a floor price and quantity.

Kaliwon Edi, an assistant director for permanent crops development in the agriculture department, says there are almost 3,200 hectares under banana cultivation, the second largest making up about 18% of 18,000 hectares of orchards. Durian is the most popular fruit grown on 4,310 hectares.

Only Kota Belud, about 58km from Kota Kinabalu, has the largest orchard of Saba banana at 673.5 hectares. Other districts have other Cavendish varieites. Kaliwon says the bananas can be harvested in nine or 13 months after planting. Farm price of Saba banana varies between 50 and 80 sen a kg, he says, adding that it sells for about 1.50 ringgit a kg in the market.

His department has identified another 50 hectares that are suitable for growing Saba banana. – Insight Sabah

Beasiswa The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Untuk Pelajar Indonesia

Kompas.com - The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) kembali membuka program beasiswa untuk program S2 dan S3 bagi para profesional dari negara berkembang. But, the price is pretty interesting too.

An exceptionally rare and equally large Nikon lens has turned up for sale in London. The 11.5 pound, 6mm f2.8 lens has a 220 degree viewing angle, a 24x36mm image area, and was intended for "scientific and industrial purposes".

According to The British Journal of Photography, the lens was originally announced at the 1970 Photokina photography trade show, strictly made-to-order, and went into limited production in 1972. It is currently for sale for £100,000, or roughly $161,210, on the Grays of Westminster website. That's a small price to pay for a lens that can clearly see into your very soul.

Toyota Virtual Booth 2012 Auto China

Now things are getting more advanced. The 12th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition is probably the first time ever where you can visit Toyota Auto Exhibition vitually.
You don't have to fly to China to visit the exhibition, but you can do so by sitting comfortably at home in front of your computer to choose your Toyota car.
I vissited the site here at The 12th Beijing International Automative Exhibition, and most of the items are still under construction. Hopefully they will go live soon.

Megan Fox is Pregnant Her First Child

Congratulations, Megan Fox is cofirmed, pregnant with her first child.

According to E! Online, the Transformers starlet is currently expecting their first child with hubby Brian Austin Green. Rumors of Fox, 25, carrying a little cub in her belly first spawned when she revealed to Cosmopolitan magazine that she’s ready to be a mom.

“I want at least two, probably three [kids]. I’ve always been maternal,” she told the publication. She then added of her 38-year-old husband, “We’ve had obstacles, and we’ve overcome them. I truly feel like he’s my soul mate. I don’t want to sound corny or cliché, but I do believe we are destined to live this part of our lives together.”

In March, a source told Star magazine that the actress and her beau were not breaking the baby news until she’s further along, but added they are “incredibly excited.”
Megan is already proud a step-mom to 10-year-old Kassius, Brian’s son from a previous relationship with ex Vanessa Marcil.

Congrats to the happy couple!

Amiin...'' tulis Kurnia.

''Terry Jones pasti blum memahami kitabnya.

''Pak Terry mudah-mudahan akan mendapat hidayah setelah menjelekkan Islam,'' ungkap Harko A.

SABAH AL-AHMAD GLOBAL GATEWAY LOGISTICS CITY in Clark Philippines

Last month Sabah Al-Ahmad Global Gateway Logistic City in Clark Philippines was launched by His Highness, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait . On 27 Mar His Highness, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait visited the Clark Freeport for the renaming and re-dedication of Global Gateway Logistics City (GGLC).

The 177-hectare GGLC will now carry the name of the Sheikh in recognition of Kuwaiti huge investments in the GGLC estimated at over $1 billion. Needless to say Dennis Wright, president of Peregrine Development International Inc. (Peregrine) went all out to provide a temporary venue unlike anything ever seen before at Clark city. it was estimated that his company spent well over 10 million pesos in preparations.

It was one hell of a project and the mission was carried out to perfection. You should have seen the tents, the stage, air-conditioning units, sound system, banners, etc. Even someone with as much money as the Sheikh had to be impressed. The GGDC is the corporate arm of the Kuwait and Gulf Link Holding Co. (KGL) in the Philippines which is developing the logistics city. There are a lot of initials to deal with here, GGLC, GGDC and KGL. Whatever, they are all connected in developing the Logistics City and we are talking mega bucks.

The Emir flew into into Clark at noon time after a four day state visit. On his drive to the GGLC he was treated to views of his likeness on each lamp post along the route he traveled. The Sheik probably had to be impressed and then to see the set up at the designated site had impressed the hell out of anyone looking at it, and, so we can easily imagine how he felt. But, being a cool Sheikh he held a straight face throughout the whole ceremony.

This project definetly will be able to provide more work opportunities for the people especially in Clark and Angeles city area.
People are protesting, rally after rally was organised by many environmental NGOs but solution to this fiasco is still far away from our reach.

Some people probably will have this question, why are people protesting? Isn't it good to have this rare earth processing plant for more job opportunities and development? But what about the radioactive that coming with it, an element very harmful to our health and environment. Where are they going to store/dump the residual/wastes are equally important question.

Ohh yes..I agree with you that this Lynas will provide some jobs but should not forget about the long term environmental impacts of rare earth processing activities. It is like a new killing machine, no doubt about it.

We were told that it should be OK. Everything are fine, government will monitor the activities all the time. BUT, you and me know it so well that this government of the day are just so good in promising and lip services. There are so many example where government failed so miserably to monitor anything. One fine example is Sabah is flooded with illegal visitors. Nothing the government has done about it BUT promise. In fact some people in the coffee shop says this illegal immigrants in Sabah was a result of the 'Project IC' orchestrated by the ruling government. I don't know how true but if the government is so irresponsible, how can we trust them on Lynas?

Lynas was rejected by the people of Australia. There are no reason why we must accept it. And the government is so irresponsibly by allowing them to operate here despite the people objection.

Every souls in Malaysia should be given chance to a correct information about the BAD of Lynas rare earth processing plant. The voices of the people should be heard. We must not allow this new killing machine to operate in Malaysia. Yes.. we should unite to object it.

To get more information about Lynas Corporation Ltd, visit Lynas rare earth processing plant

StudyMalaysia Education Fair 2012 in Sabah Failed!

Failed! that is how I rate StudyMalaysia Education Fair 2012 in Sabah today 17th March 2012. No.. I'm not in anyway belittling or badmouthing StudyMalaysia but look, I was one of the participants and we paid for the exhibition booth, not one lot but two (2) lots and that cost a fortune to the company where I work with.

You probably will ask me, the reason why? The people or students turn-out was so poor. Crowd was very little and we are expecting big crowd as we are there to promote something and getting as much students database as possible.

And up until 4.30pm the crowd wasn't getting any bigger, in fact getting very poor. Compare to last year, this year StudyMalaysia Education Fair 2012 in Kota Kinabalu was a big failure.

Hopefully tomorrow gonna be better, otherwise all exhibitor or participants will have a very good reason to demand a money return from StudyMalaysia or no more next year for them. We wish to hear some good explanation from StudyMalaysia about the poor crowd turn-out this year.
