Today Energex contacted the electricians in Brisbane re electric reconnection.

Energex would like to thank all electricians who are assisting Queensland with recovering from the Flood Damage.

Because water and electricity don’t mix many residences in the flooded areas of Brisbane have had to have their power cut and need to have it inspected for saftey before allowing it to be turned back on.

Sunlight Electrical can help with this and have been advised by Energex the procedure needed to get the power back on.

The first thing you should do when returning home

Always remember that electrical lines and water do not mix. Standing in water and attempting to remove electrical wires is plain dangerous. Also remember that even if you do not have power in some locations in your house, not all the lines could be dead.

If there are stagnant waters in the house and you are able to shut down the electricity at the main switch from a dry location, proceed in doing so, even if this delays cleaning.

If there is no way to avoid walking on water to reach the main switchboard, call an electrician to shut off electricity. NEVER shut off or restore electricity or use any electrical tool or appliance yourself while standing in water.

* Have an electrician check the electric system of the house before restoring electricity.

* If the house has been closed during several days, open the door and windows and allow the house to air for a while (at least 30 minutes) before remaining inside for longer.

* If the house is flooded and has been closed during several days, assume it is contaminated with mold.

* If the house has been flooded, it is possible that it is also contaminated with sewage waters.

Here is a great video professionally made showing the extent of the Brisbane 2011 Floods.

As electricity prices keep rising the need for households to somehow reduce usage or search for alternatives is growing in all states in Australia.

Australia has an estimated 115 MW of installed photovoltaic (PV) power (July 2009), contributing an estimated 0.1 to 0.2% of total electricity production despite the hot, dry, and sunny climate that would make it ideal for utilisation.

Australia has the potential for vast renewable energy capabilities.

However this is not yet fully realised and the country’s abundant resources are currently under utilised. The significant deployment of these technologies would substantially mitigate Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions, as electricity generation accounts for the majority of the country’s carbon emissions.

Solar and wind energy sources are being harnessed on a comparatively small scale, and are at the stage of commercialisation.

Sunlight Electrical wants to help their customers that are interested in lowering their electrical bills by introducing a range of renewable solar energy products in the new year.

This can range from simple solar energy products for the garden or shed up to fully integrated solar energy linked in to the electrical grid.

Purchasing a solar energy power system for your home is a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Quality and service vary widely in this industry so choose a well established and knowledgeable company that use only the best performing equipment!

Sunlight Electrical is investing in the latest training and looking at the best products on the market.

Sunlight electrical can install phone points and phone lines in homes, industrial and commercial building right up to large multi story buildings.

Relocating the phone lines

Relocation involves connecting new phone lines at the new premises and switching or diverting the phone number from the old lines to the new lines.

If you are fortunate enough to have access to the new building early and are buying a new phone system then you can take a lot of the stress out of the move by provisioning the new phone lines and installing the new phone system before you move.

This way you can have everything installed and tested and it’s just a matter of setting the diversions on the day of the move. Sunlight Electrical can help you with installing new phone lines.

With regard to small business owners, the idea of acquiring a small business phone system set up is usually exciting.

After all, an effective organization needs to have an open form of communication not simply with a client, but within the organization itself. However, unless you are a skilled phone system operator, there are some mistakes a new owner can make. Issues that can mean the difference between profit and failure.

Below are the top 3 mistakes an owner must avoid when setting up a phone system and installing Phone Lines.

1. Ensure that you know the precise type and number of phone lines you will be using for your company. It’s simple really, the more additional phone lines you have, the more you pay for leasing lines you don’t need. Alternatively, if you have too little phone lines, you will discover yourself developing a communications bottleneck, with several of your staff sitting idly waiting for the next phone line to be available, not to mention having calls meant for one department getting sent to another because the first one is being used. It may be frustrating really. So make sure beforehand what type and how many you phone lines you need to avoid such mishaps.

2. The second mistake to steer clear of is agreeing to timed phone calls in 20 second to 1 minute blocks. What this means is that a 5 second call will cost the same as a 20 second or 1 minute call, depends on what you have agreed on. This of course means a great deal of wasted funds. So when agreeing with the phone company, make sure that you sign up with the timed calls that are billed in 1 second increments. This ensures that you pay only for what you use, and that you have no extraneous billings you don’t need.

3. The third mistake a new small business phone system owner should steer clear of is not getting a business phone plan match their call spending. What you want to do is making sure you are getting the lowest per minute call rates for the most common call types you will need. If you want to make international calls, make certain your plan favors that type. If you are using it for local calls, then pick the plan that matches with it. Otherwise, you might be spending for something that you are not using and therefore accumulating a expenses that isn’t justified. Which may seem like highway robbery in the part of the telco, but in actuality you are at fault.

Naturally there are many more areas to consider when getting a business phone system, like choosing the right telco, choosing the one with the right service support and many others, but the top three are the ones you should take note of since they can cause quite a headache if left to run wild. But in the end, it all boils down to what you and your small business phone system needs are. Of course it goes without saying that one must practice good common sense when choosing, after all, if you are smart enough to run a small business, you are smart enough to choose the right system.

The electrical wiring system of a house or business is a series of pathways called a circuit.

Electrical current from the power grid flows into a house or business through a wiring system, splitting up into numerous pathways that connect to all areas of the house or business. Like the flow of a river, electric current never passes the same point twice.

Electric Meter

A wiring system has a first point of entry when the power is connected to your home or business enters through an electric meter. The electric meter does exactly what its name implies: It meters the net amount of electricity you use. These meter readings are the basis for the usage figures on your electricity bill. The meter itself is almost always property of the electric authority.

Switch Board

Your wiring system then needs to pass through a switch board which should contain some circuit breakers to interupt the flow of electricity if there is any over load.

A bus bar is a thick electrical conductor, like a wire except with much more capacity and no insulation. The hot bus bars supply power to the individual circuits, each one protected by its own circuit breaker. Old service panels may use fuses instead of circuit breakers.

If you have a wiring system like this you should look at upgrading to provide greater security and protection for your family or staff. Contact Sunlight Electrical today to get a Obligation Free Quote

Individual Circuits

Each individual circuit begins in the service panel, with a circuit breaker. From there the current flows along an electric cable, typically running behind the walls and above the ceiling, to serve a specific area of the house.

This cable consists of at least one hot wire–sometimes more–as well as one neutral and usually one ground wire. This is the most common wiring system.

Usage Outlets

Usage points consist of electrical outlets, wall switches and integrated devices, such as ceiling lights. All usage points connect to one of the house’s individual electrical circuits.

They must be wired correctly to work properly and reduce safety risks.

Specifically, hot wires must match up with hot connections, neutral wires with neutral connections and ground wires with ground connections. In addition, all physical connections must be solid, protected from accidental human touch and clear of any flammable materials.

Planning your Wiring System

Planning out this whole process should be done by professionals and Sunlight Electrical contractors can plan the layout of your wiring system and help you maximize the best use of electricity in your home or business.

Planning A Wiring System For other Projects

Of course it is not just about homes and business usage. We can plan a wiring system for security, air conditioning, automation, large factory complexes, machinery and much more. Sunlight Electrical Contractors can also do a wiring system plan for communications, phone and data points.

All our houses are wired with electrical cables and we have numerous electrical goods that utilize electricity.

Whats the difference between and Electrician and a Electrical Contractor

An electrician is a tradesman specializing in electrical wiring of buildings, stationary machines and related equipment. Electricians may be employed in the installation of new electrical components or the maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure. Electricians may also specialize in wiring ships, airplanes and other mobile platforms.

“Electrician” and “electrical contractor” are related, though sometimes confused terms. An electrician is an individual tradesperson; an electrical contractor is a business person or firm that employs electricians to help design, install, and maintain electrical systems. In all of Australia, separate licensing requirements exist for electricians and electrical contractors. Electricians are typically not allowed to perform work unless under the employment of an electrical contractor.

Contracting an Electrician for work around your home.

Whether you doing renovations, adding a new powerpoint or installing a new water heater you will probably need the services of an Electrician and Sunlight Electrical Contractors should be your first contact.

If you seem to be running out of outlets in your home, you can call Sunlight Electrical Contractor to come in and give you an estimate for additional outlets. If you have old wiring in your home, it is time to upgrade and meet the housing code requirements.

If you have power surges when the refrigerator kicks in, you need to find out why and call an electrician. A professional electrician can help you with these needs. If you keep tripping a circuit breaker or blowing a fuse, you need to find out why right away.

A potential danger might be avoided if you get the problem checked and fixed by a licensed and insured electrical contractor.

Most electrical fires start because the homeowner does not think the problem is serious. If they would have had it checked by a professional electrical contractor, the fire may have been avoided.

It does not cost anything to pick up the phone and call an electrician; it does cost more if you would have a fire or power outage. It is better to get problems resolved before it is too late. If you have dimming lights, flickering lights, arching, frayed wires, old knob and tube wiring or even upgrading plans, call Sunlight Electrical Contractors to see what we can do for you.

What Are a Circuit Breakers.

Essentially, circuit breakers are safety device. When a circuit breaker is tripped because of a fault it cuts off the power to that part of the home or office. This can not only protect your electrical equipment but also potentially save lives.

While a number of older homes and buildings still use fuses to monitor the electrical load, almost every newer home has circuit breakers in the electrical panel.

Fuses perform much the same duty as circuit breakers. However, circuit breakers are safer to use than fuses and easier to fix. If a fuse blows a homeowner will often not know which fuse controls which specific power areas of the house. The homeowner will have to examine the fuses to determine which fuse appears to be burned out. The fuse will then have to be unscrewed from the fuse box and a new fuse will have to be installed.

Circuit breakers are much easier to fix than fuses. When the power to an area shuts down, the homeowner can look in the electrical panel and see which breaker has tripped to the “off” position. The breaker can then be flipped to the “on” position and power will resume again.

Please note that if a breaker continues to trip after you flip it, you may have a faulty breaker, a wiring problem, or there may be an issue with an electrical device that relies on that breaker. You should leave the breaker off and consult Sunlight Electrical.

To have Sunlight Electrical check your Circuit Breakers, install new ones or convert an old fuse system contact them now on

There are many different types of security cameras available on the market today and Sunlight Electrical Contractors can help you through the maze of products and services available. As they are electrical contractors you can deal with the one company for all your needs and they are fully licensed.

Wireless Security Cameras

If you need to partially conceal your cameras from view, wireless security cameras are the way to go. Wireless security cameras have become very popular because they can literally be put anywhere you want since you don’t have to worry about wires.

Additionally, wireless security cameras are becoming more and more affordable as the technology makes leaps and bounds- both in terms of the cutting edge new features and in the manufacturing and design process.

Home Security Cameras

Like most technology, the cost of home security has come down in recent years and the outdoor security cameras are no exception. With the right set-up the signal from your security cameras can be fed to your television for convenience – you don’t have to go to a special monitor to see the picture.

Variety of uses

Security Cameras can be used for both indoor and outside surveillance.

For example my father is getting quite okld and we have a camera mounted in his granny flat out the back so if he falls or gets into trouble he can press a switch and we can instantly see whats happening.

Of course it is not just for homes. We can install security cameras in commercial premise, schools, clubs, warehouse, shops and any place where you need to keep an eye on whats going on.

For a home or business, the presence of security cameras can:

• Catch shoplifters

• Deter potential thieves

• Monitor cash registers

• Identify visitors

• Monitor hazardous work areas

• Increase security in and around your home and business, including the parking area

Security Cameras: The Choices

Once you know what you want to see, decide how you want to see it.

• Black and white?

• Color?

• Movement activated?

• CCTV?

• Live screen monitoring?

• Taped for later review?

With security cameras you have a wide range of recording options.

The type of security cameras you needs depends on what you want them to do. Will the system be constantly monitored, or recording and reviewed later? If you know the answer to this question, you know the type of security cameras you need to purchase.

If you plan to constantly monitor your cameras, you can choose to hook them up to individual monitors or all of them to a single monitor. If you plan on recording and reviewing the tapes, you need to decide if you want the videos recorded on VHS tapes, burned onto DVDs, or stored onto the hard drive of your computer.

Once you have worked out what type of security cameras you need to monitor it is easier to pick the right system to fit your budget.

Using Sunlight Electrical for your Split system air conditioner they can provide you with a number of savings as they can not only install your Split system air conditioner but also wire it up and add additional features.

What is a Split system air conditioner?

Air conditioners use refrigeration principles to cool the air. A typical Split system air conditioner has a compressor and condenser located outdoors and an evaporator unit mounted on the air handler or furnace. A package A/C system combines all of these components in one outdoor unit.

Parts of your Split system air conditioner!

The parts of a split system air conditioner include a compressor, fan, condenser coil, evaporator coil and refrigerant. The condenser coil is installed outside and connects to the evaporator coil or coils inside different rooms in the house. The evaporator coils are individually controlled, allowing the home owners to set each room to a different temperature. Both condenser and evaporator coils are connected to the refrigerant lines.

How many rooms do you want to cool?

The number of rooms you want to cool is important to consider.

It is relatively easy to select a Split system air conditioner to cool a single room. Cooling multiple rooms using a single system can be very cost-effective, however, it requires some more in-depth consideration and calculations to find the right unit.
