User Vision's Mark Palmer will present his thoughts on HTML5 and it's potential impact on accessibility.

This will be a high level introduction to the issues and will cover the following:-

Introduction - What is HTML5. How we came to have HTML5 and not XHTML2 on the horizon.

HTML 5 - Hero or Villain. HTML5 has split the accessibility community. Mark will look at plus and minus points of the specification as it currently stands.

Benefits of HTML5 - How will HTML5 aid accessibility.

Concerns about HTML5 - What are the potential negative impacts on accessibility.

An Introduction to Prototyping

Neil Allison will present his approach to prototyping. In essence, he's far more interested in the verb - prototyping - than the noun - prototype.

It will be a basic introduction for those who haven't tried it before and an opportunity for more experienced attendees to share their experiences - successes, failures and challenges when prototyping.

	In a nutshell:

Looking at the why, the when & the how of prototyping

Considering a few of the prototyping tools and resources available

Sharing a few case studies from his work prototyping for website and applications development at the University of Edinburgh

Engaging industry and the public sector in accessible, inclusive design - do we need to shout louder or smarter?

Awareness of accessibility and inclusive design is arguably at an all-time high, yet we still see shortcomings in quality of accessibility of new ICTs, while legacy content with serious accessibility issues and new user generated content are also persistent challenges.

The recently-established European eAccessibility network, eAccess+, has been funded firstly to raise awareness of existing good practice in accessibility, and secondly to understand more about difficulties industry and the public sector has in adopting more accessible design practices of ICTS such as web sites, public access terminals and interactive digital TV.

Part of the network's outreach activity is to engage with colleagues in the usability and accessibility profession:

	* Why do you think accessibility shortcomings still exist?

	* What do you find are the main objections or blockers to more accessible ICT, and how do we counter them?

	* Is the current financial climate an opportunity or a threat to eAccessibility?

This talk will review recent developments in e-accessibility, from academic research projects to BS8878, WAI-ARIA and HTML5, describe the role of eAccess+ in trying to make more organisations across the EU aware of best practice, and facilitate a discussion amongst the audience around key challenges to promoting and supporting eAccessibility adoption.
