The courses are formatted in small workshops in the laboratory. We compare the genomes and metabolic pathways of organisms to identify rational strategy for small molecule interventions. This first part aimed at introducing the existing biological databases, the data parsing techniques, the manipulation of biological sequences and pathways using Perl scripts. In the second phase of the course, we study the gene expression by statistical analysis of micro-arrays experiments using R statistical package. Candidate protein target is selected from this two phases to introduce to protein homology modeling the main entry for structural-based drug design approach in the absence of protein structure.
