So every year i find some great shows that i then become obsessed with and im sure im not the only one. Last year I found

• The Walking Dead
• Happy Ending’s
• Fringe
• Game of thrones
• Eastbound and down

to name a few and it was an awesome year for TV. Although this year I am no longer a student with a lot of spare time on my hands I still hope to find so new shows to enjoy. The following are some of the shows i have had my eye on for a while and hope to get round to watching.

Breaking Bad – Everyone I know who has watched this program adores it and I know rob loves it as well. Even though the premise of the program is incredibly intriguing to me . A terminally Ill chemistry teacher turns to cooking drugs in an attempt to secure his families financial future….. sounds amazing right !!! However i still haven’t sat down to watch any of it lets hope i remedy the situation in 2012 and find out if the show is really as good as it has been made out to be.

The Wire – Just like breaking bad this show is constantly recommended to me and I have seen it it voted the best program of all time on countless poll’s yet i still haven’t sat down to watch even one episode. From what i know about the wire its a gritty drama about crime and a war for the streets of Baltimore in which the program is based. I know the program finished a while ago and I realise many of you reading this will be disgusted that I haven’t seen the wire but its firmly on my amazon wish list and some time this year I will get it and find out for myself how awesome im sure it is.

Sherlock – I watched my first ever episode of Sherlock this Sunday and loved it. I don’t know how this show has gone under my radar for so long its written and produced by the same people that make my beloved Doctor Who and I do love Sherlock Holmes as well. It seems silly that I haven’t been all over this show from the start but I am sure i will be for the rest of the year.

Dexter- Another show that i hear so much about but have never watched. A show where your routing for the serial killer … awesome i must say that from what i know about Dexter it looks really cool and twisted which i usually love so once again shame on me for not watching any of the series.

The Mentalist – The mentalist i have caught a few times and i really like it. Hes a very endearing character and the story’s always seem very well written the only problem is that i just catch the odd episode here and there on sky which is a way of watching a show which i detest i am very all or nothing in that respect so hopefully in 2012 i can sit down with some box sets and really get into the mentalist.

The following  films are my top 5 films of the year. I have tried to see almost every major release this year at the cinema and these are my favorite 5 of the year and in my opinion its been a pretty great year for cinema goers. I hope you like my list and I would love to hear what your favorites have been in 2011.

1. Super 8 – The way I would describe this film is the  Goonies meets Cloverfield with an amazing retro feel. J.J. Abraham‘s made something really special with this film and discovered some fantastic acting talent along the way. If you haven’t seen it you really should :D

2. Tinker Tailor Solider Spy –An amazing film with a wonderful paced with an awesome cast I really enjoyed it and Garry Oldman was superb as smiley a must see for all. see my full review here .

3. X-men First Class – A reboot of the x men series that I was very skeptical of by the end of it I wish I had never seen the other 4 movies this is probably the best comic book movie.

4. Attack of the Block – went in thinking it was a sci fi parody mocking the urban youth of London ended up being a fantastic sci fi adventure that almost had me in tears at the end well worth a watch it may just surprise you :D

5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 – A great send of too this enjoyable film series with a more action packed experience than the previous films it is easily one of the best films in the series.

With 2011 drawing to a close I thought it might be nice to summarize  what my favorite shows of the year have been and why. 

1. Doctor Who – an amazing series spread across the year with the introduction of the silence, the death of the doctor and finding out who river song is. It really has been a great year for who fans. 2. The Walking Dead- I found the walking dead only recently and it has been a revelation amazing story great acting and amazing production value it is a truly fantastic television program most of all though zombies are awesome. 3. An Idiot Abroad- just when you thought nothing could be better than season 1 of an idiot abroad Karl comes back with more hilarious adventures and some new dim-witted but strangely ingenious ideas about the world. This years season was about the bucket list and i must say that the trans Siberian railway and meeting a gorilla episodes where stand outs for me. 4. Game of Thrones – New to 2011 this adaptation of the hugely successful series by George R R Martin starring Sean Bean was amazingly epic from start to finish. Every episode had you craving the next with some amazing cliff hangers and i have been counting down the days till season 2 starts. If you haven’t seen it get the box set you wont regret a second :D 5.  Misfits – After losing Nathan I like many others was sceptical as to how the Misfits into  would continue into season 3 thankfully the addition of Rudie has seen it just get better and better in 2011 with an amazing third season. Episodes that included zombie cheerleaders and a Nazi occupied Britain are a must see. As I’m sure your aware it has been a great year for TV with many of my all time favorites not even making my top 5 list for 2011. I’m sorry i haven’t been post for what seems like an age now; I have been extremely short on time and worn down from work. I’m basically going to blame it on work and carrying out a big project which has involved me writing a large amount of copy during the day so when i get home its been so much harder to sit down and get motivated with the blog. I’m not wiling to give up so I am trying to come up with a way round writers block and being time poor and have decided to give a video pod cast a go in the near future ( i tried it out before and i got a reasonable response) it seems like the logical way round the problems I have been having with sitting down to write.

so hopefully in coming weeks once i figure it all out we can get back on track and catch up with all the great shows that are having a break and most importantly the get something together for the doctor who Christmas special.

This weeks episode is a flash back episode telling the sorry of how Robin ended up in court mandated therapy after assaulting a women. The story starts by telling how Barney has transformed into the perfect boyfriend in his attempts to woo Nora sending her gifts at the office everyday and even coming into serenade her.

This transformation in Barney is killing Robin who is still in love with him and watching him make more effort for Nora than he did for her is making her resort to drinking and crying under tables. Robin then starts to try to sabotage the relationship by first getting Norah to go away to Paris at work and then she planned to seduce Barney who upsets her by calling her a bro. Barney also asks for Robins help to get rid of the of his missiles that he left around town to help him score with girls. Robin does help Barney but accidentally re starts his automated voice mail recorder. The result is a dumb blonde goes looking for Barney thinking that he is her destiny. Robin bumps into the blonde during her search and points her in the direction of Barney and Norah’s fair well date before she goes to Paris.

Robin Realizes that she is being a terrible bro and runs down town and gets into a fight with this woman to prevent her interrupting Barney’s night which leads to her assault charge and time in Therapy. In the side plot of this weeks episode Ted is struggling with Marshall and Lily having a baby before he has found Mrs right and turns Lily’s pregnancy into a tripod with team Baby. It gets as far as Ted and Marshall going to ante natal classes together before they realize its has gone to far and Ted agrees to give Lily and Marshall their space. Lily and Marshall decide in the end that team Baby is a good idea and that they want ted to be involved as it has always been the three of them.

The best bits about this weeks episode was Barney’s Missiles to pick up girls. This element of the story was another classic other the top man whore escapade that we all have come to know and love from Mr Barney Stinson. My Favorite bit was his breakdown when he told his guy at the port no longer to ring him when dumb naive girls arrive in new york. I also really liked the awkward scenes in the ante natal class between Ted and Marshall I think that this section really worked well lightening the mood from Robins heart ache and Marshall missing out on information about vagina’s was a great moment of this episode.

I am uncertain about Robin in this episode because part of me is really interested in what is going to happen with her and Barney. I really want her and Barney to get back together but I’m not sure if it will happen but I’m sure like most fans im routing for Robin. On the other hand I didn’t like how super vulnerable Robin has got over barney and the jealous side of her that came out in this episode wasn’t how I like to see her. In my eyes Robin is confident cool and occasionally vengeful but not Jealous and needy . So im into that story but im not liking the character development at the moment.

Talking of character development that im not enjoying what is going on with Barney!! Ok we had some brief fun moments in this episode. However most of it was him being a corny over the top needy romantic with Norah and dare i say it he was worse than Ted at being loved up. Having pet names, buying presents and singing to her all very nauseating I know that he’s trying to change his man whore ways but this was too much for me not at all the Barney I know and love and he certainly wasnt as funny this week. All I’m hoping is that making him so not himself with Norah ends up being the reason he gets it together with Robin we can hope anyway. Untill he gets back to normal im afraid that ill have to rely on Marshall Erickson for my genius HIMYM comedic moments .

Over all I think this episode was really solid but their where no stand out funny moments for me which i have come to expect from an episode of how I met your mother . Aswell as this two of my favorite charter’s showed sides of their personalities that I didn’t warm to at all which took away from what was a solid episode and made it a slightly average episode of how I met your mother. I’m hoping that next weeks will be a much lighter episode with loads of Marshall based comedy from what I understand at a work field trip.  This weeks episode I would give 2 out of 5 purely based on what they did to Barney and Robin I really hope they don’t continue to ruin there awesomeness.

This weeks episode of the Big Bang Theory center’s around Raj and his new relationship with a deaf girl. The episode begins with the guys chatting about Leonard and Priya’s relationship and Howard and Bernadette’s forthcoming nuptials. This makes Raj feel sorry for himself and noticing that he is having a hard time of it Penny sets him up with her deaf friend at the gym thinking they would be perfect for each other. They hit it of and start to date but it the comes to light that Raj is incredibly rich (well his family are) and that he has been spending big money on his new girlfriend. Penny and Howard try to intervene and protect raj , but to no avail. Until Penny contacts Raj’s family who tell him he will be cut off if he doesn’t stop seeing this girl, Raj chooses love other money but his new girlfriend leaves him when the money dries up. Raj gets over it when his parents offer to by him anew car if he dates a nice Indian girl. The main sub story this week was about Sheldon chosing to live by the rule of the dice after a game of Dungeons and Dragons.

What i liked about this weeks episode was the Sheldon sub plot im a fan of the concept of living by the rule of dice which I was first introduced to in the Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart. I thought that this weeks little homage was a great way to break up the tension of Raj’s unsuccessful relationship. I also enjoyed the brief moments we got see Amy Ferrah Fowler where she awkwardly hinted to Bernadette that she would like to be her bridesmaid.

Sadly that was about all I liked about this weeks episode I wasn’t really into Raj’s new relationship and didn’t find the jokes based around her being deaf particularly funny at all. It all felt a bit like a build up to a further story about Raj and Penny which I can see developing in future episodes. I also think that finding out Raj’s family are rich will have a part to play in the series progression. Other than that this weeks episode was a bit flat and didn’t have anywhere as much humour as I would expect from the previous episode of the season. This is probably because the main sources of comedy in the show Sheldon and Amy only played minor roles in this episode which felt very much like a filler.

Id probably give it 2 1/2  out of 5 it wasn’t horrible to watch but also not very memorable. This may have been because I had watched England crash out of the rugby world cup early the day in which I watched it. I really don’t think that i would enjoy it anymore watching it again though. Let me know whether or not you think that’s a fair judgement of this weeks episode. I’m sure things will pick up though as Big Bang Theory has been known to have a few rubbish episodes at the start of seasons. The following is one of my favorite Big Bang moments to finish on a high note.

I know I am a bit behind with things this week but time for a big catch up. This weeks idiot abroad see’s Karl going on the trans Siberian railway from Moscow to China. The journey takes him to a Russian steam room which isn’t very relaxing. A space station where he gets put through his paces but isn’t fit for a zero gravity trip, he sends a packet of revels to replace him though which is fine. He learns there is a third class on trains before going to Mongolia to do a bit of wrestling. Karl then gets to choose how to finish his journey in China and decides to go to a Dwarf village. As i said with the last episode i think its best that i just put my favorite Karl Pilkington quotes up rather than do a full review of the episode.

” Being an astronaut is easy you just sit on your arse all day I mean if a chimp can do it how hard could it be “

The best quote to do with this episode has to be what Karl said about the London Metros poor review of the show (not everyone can appreciate a genius) his response was to call them ” a bunch of gormless c**ts” well said Karl.

England have been knocked out of the world cup by a reignited French team in a 19-12 defeat. France have looked beaten and all over the place last week pulled it together in tremendous performance particularly in the first half that really shocked England and where deserving winners. I think i speak for many when i say ” god i hope wales trash them next week “.

Less about the French performance which was good and a vast improvement on their form but still not fantastic, it was quite clear that England lost because they played really badly and not that they didn’t have it in them to beat the french. The where some really poor performances from players such as Johnny Wilkinson (again) , Matt Stevens (again) , Steve Thompson ( dreadful with the line outs) , Palmer (very quite didn’t do enough to warrant his place for me). The got the basic’s wrong with the scrum and the line-out dominated by france, they made silly mistakes like Wilkinson’s re-start it just and worst of all they didn’t learn from the grand slam cock-up that when it started really going against them to slow it down and get back in the game. This was what really pissed me off about today nobody showed any experience and to be honest the senior players looked as panicked and possibly even more panicked than our young players. With that going on your not going to get anything out of a world cup quarter final.

Yes in the Second half the guys showed a lot of spirit to keep fighting and there was even point where i started to believe we had a chance . Hats off to Nick Easter ( superb all game bar a few dodgy decisions under pressure), young Manu ( the stand out English player of the tournament and the future of English rugby), Flood ( who really made things happen when he got back in at 10) and Moody ( who always gives his all and plays well not sure he has the voice to be captain though). The team as well where clearly distraught after the match which was nice and sad to see at the same time, definitely something you wont be getting of Wayne Rooney after last night but I could talk all day about why rugby is better than football so I should probably just move on. I really hope that when all is said and done these are big lessons for the guys and next year they will be able to show more ability at controlling games. The best way to do this is to get rid of your Thompsons your Wilkinson’s and maybe even Tindal and let the young crop own their shirts for the next four years and get a bigger sense of responsibility and leadership so we can really give it ago next time round as we clearly have the talent. That certainly doesn’t mean that i think Johno should go as coach I don’t think its his fault at all and to be honest he’s still getting better as a manager like most of the players are progressing.

Its most defiantly been a sad day for English rugby today and for the Irish so we now have to all cheer on the Welsh however bad it feels . Let me know what you all think about the performance today and how you think England should plan for the future ?
