Ek Tha Tiger (English: There was a Tiger) is an upcoming 2012 Bollywoodromantic action thriller film starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.^[1] Produced byAditya Chopra and directed by Kabir Khan, the film marks the third collaboration of Kabir Khan with Yash Raj Films after Kabul Express (2006) and New York(2009). The film is scheduled for theatrical release on 15 August 2012.

Production

Casting

After pre-production started, reports claimed that the film was initially offered toShahrukh Khan.^[2] However, they were denied by the director, who stated that a different script had been offered by him to Shahrukh, but no one else had been roped in for the lead role in Ek Tha Tiger except Salman,^[3] for whom the project becomes his first venture with Yashraj Films. His salary for the film has been reported to be 32 crore (US$5.79 million).^[4] Director Kabir Khan teamed up withKatrina Kaif and Aseem Mishra for the second time after New York. Ranvir Shoreywas signed in for a supporting role.^[5]

Filming

Filming for Ek Tha Tiger began on 10 August 2011.^[6] Shooting locations have reportedly included 10 countries,^[7] including Ireland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Cuba, Egypt, Iraq, Russia and India.^[8] ^[9] The first schedule was carried out in the Trinity College of Dublin. The lead actors shot in the get-up of students and the college was chosen as an alternative to the "usual" educational institutions.^[7] The second schedule took place in Istanbul, as insiders of the film considered it a "perfect backdrop" for the action sequences.^[10] Salman did a commercial for Cuban Tourism with a local team while shooting a major portion of the film in Havana, the capital of Cuba. The same sets used in the film were featured in the ad.^[11] After shooting in Cuba, a schedule was opened up in Mumbai.^[3]

A schedule planned in Hong Kong was delayed due to script issues and Aditya Chopra's simultaneous involvement in another project.^[12] The shooting of Ek Tha Tiger was stalled when Salman set off to USA for a surgery regarding his Trigeminal neuralgia. After it got over, it resumed on 10 September.^[13] The stunt directors of The Bourne Identity were contracted for the stunt sequences of Ek Tha Tiger.^[7] Katrina Kaif performed her own stunts in the film, describing them as "exciting, challenging and electrifying". This is one of the first action films in her career.^[14] She had to simultaneously switch between her two films and resumed her filming for Ek Tha Tigeron 27 March 2012.^[15]

The film is being planned for a release during Eid of 2012.^[16] A set of reports indicated that the film showed a similarity with Agent Vinod (2012),^[17] and was inspired by the Bourne film series. Both the reports were dismissed by the producers.^[3]^[18] To shoot a singletime slice shot for the film, a set of 75 Canon 5D cameras were used simultaneously.^[19] The whole unit including lead actors Salman Khan and Katrina kaif left for Bangkok on 22 May 2012 to shoot the last schedule of the film

India celebrates Kargil 'Victory'

Today as India celebrates Kargil 'Victory', there's still much to worry for both the rivals who fought against each other at Kargil in 1999.

It was a strategic blunder for Pakistan but India too didn't get much from it in strategic terms.

The video, though old is very relevant to understanding the Kargil war. The Point 5353, which is the highest peak in the Drass sector still remains under Pakistan Army's control.

Control of Point 5353 allows Pakistani troops to have a clear view of India's National Highway 1 D, which connects Occupied Kashmir with the Kargil and is the main supply route for the Indian Army to Laddakh and Siachen.

Pakistan Army has build up a strong defence at this post in last one decade which includes a logistics support route in shape of a small road.

This peak gives Pakistan Army the advantage to clearly view 25km of the National Highway and any Artillery fire can be directed very accurately into the Highway route if Artillery observers are deployed at this peak.

No fashion model of the 1970s got paid in the thousands, except for the larger-than-life Rakhshanda Khattak, who had to travel a rough road to make a name for herself in the still fledgling Pakistani fashion industry.

Once, her husband Husain Javeri, a jeweller who hardly ever skipped work, decided to accompany her to a modeling gig. After watching his wife having to bend, stretch and contort her body for the perfect pose, and that too for the pittance she was being paid, he approached the advertisement director and demanded his wife be paid ten times the amount to make it worth her time. That was the amount of money someone would have to pay him to be away from his wife, he said. The director was shocked but since he could not afford to lose her, he agreed. Following this incident, Rakhshanda went on to become the highest-paid and yet the most sought after young model of her time.

The Burmese-Pathan woman had her photos splashed across fashion layouts in various English and Urdu magazines. She did commercials ranging from products such as paints and toothpaste. She boasted a height many envied, and could drape her curvaceous figure — a far cry from the anorexic waif look of the New York and Paris fashion world that has caught up with Pakistani models — in a classical sari or sashay about in casual bell bottoms, and still look desirable. When she entered a room, heads turned as men stealthily gazed at her while women inspected her style.

Besides being gifted by exotic looks, she was a woman of many talents. Rakhshanda was fluent in five languages. She was the first Pakistani woman to earn a black belt in karate and the second black belt in Jiu-jitsu. This helped her execute her own stunts in an action-packed feature film named Jane Bond 008 in 1971. While her stunts awed audiences, something else captured the attention of the women: The black-and-white Pakistan-Iran collaboration (that included an Iranian producer and male lead actor) featured the young actress wearing a low-waist sari. And such was the impact of her fashion statement that it became a rage with young women to drape saris closer to their hips.

Rakhshanda forayed into the show business when a family friend offered to cast her in a marketing campaign for his products. She did a few projects with him, and when she got noticed by other agencies she exploded into the limelight. She was not represented by a management company or fashion house because such entities did not exist at the time. Advertising agencies were shady and models had to monitor their photo shoots on their own to make sure they were not being used without permission and due payment. Since there were no modeling agencies or styling salons, most models did their own hair, makeup and wardrobe. The typical fees for a modeling photo shoot was somewhere around Rs300, and that too was often delayed or worse, pocketed by the agencies.

That was until her husband, the man who managed to steal her heart from her elite group of admirers, got her more. They were married in 1970. Husain owned a famous jewelry store on Victoria Road, which later became Abdullah Haroon Road, and he designed some of the jewellery that Rakhshanda wore at the posh social gatherings. He would sometimes sell the jewellery by the end of the party, and this never pleased Rakhshanda. He would pacify by her saying, “Don’t worry I’ll make you something much better!” Which he would, but then when these fine pieces of jewelry were displayed on Rakhshanda and the opportunity came to sell, he probably did so.

Rakhshanda and Husain, along with their son Chengis, migrated to Alberta, Canada, at the end of 1979 to be closer to one of Husain’s brothers. Later in 1983, the Javeri family became naturalised Canadian citizens.

The fame and spotlight that Rakhshanda left behind in order to begin life in her new homeland left a vacuum that she filled by turning to designing her own clothes and cooking. She attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and got her red seal in cooking and baking. Usually people specialise in being a chef or a baker, but she mastered both and topped both her classes. Her love for clothes got her working in designer stores. She would go on to become a manager at every store she worked.

Rakhshanda’s love for Pakistan never died and, according to her son Chengis, she came back to Pakistan 22 times in the 30 years since she migrated. She missed the sense of community that came with friends and family. She also missed the Karachi night life, which pretty much waned over the years as political change of the 1980s spread conservatism in society.

Rakhshanda died in her Alberta condo in December 2011. She is survived by her son, who is an artist and actor in Alberta, and her five sisters, four of whom live in Pakistan while the other lives in Texas. Rakhshanda ruled the hearts of millions during her prime, and her departure from the industry left her fans wistful for more. Now that she has taken a final bow from this world, fans like me celebrate the legacy she has left behind. Rakhshanda Khattak, no doubt, was Pakistan’s first super model.

LAHORE: Expressing deep regret over the “massacre and inhumane treatment” being accorded to the Burmese Muslim community in Myanmar, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Syed Munawar Hasan demanded the Pakistani government to call the Myanmar ambassador and lodge a severe protest against it.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party chief demanded that Pakistan should also submit a requisition to summon a General Assembly session in the United Nations to ponder over the situation in Myanmar.

He deplored that more than 4 million Muslims were facing terrorism and fanaticism in its extreme form but the international community had turned a blind eye to the issue. “Hundreds of thousands of Muslims in Myanmar are being forced to turn away from Islam and migrate to other countries,” he added.

He appealed to the international community to play its due role to safeguard the fundamental human rights in Myanmar as such incidents were a slap on the so-called civilised world society.

He also called on the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to take immediate measures to stop the massacre in Myanmar.

He further said that the UN should give up its double standard against the Muslim community and take notice of the violation of basic human rights in Myanmar.
