‘Perspective’ has been a big thing for debs and I over the past year or two, and the way Oliver Jeffers talks about it is very much the way we’re thinking and doing, these days. Y’know, measuring light, philosophising on life, and whatever. AND, if debs says something that I don’t agree with, I’m all like ‘Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.” But anyway, it’s very important. You’ll see.

We’ve been creating bespoke idents for many of our clients for a long time, so we thought “why not make a whole THING about it?”. A “hoo-hah”, if you will. An opportunity for you to get in on some of the SUPER IDENTS action!

Been thinking about increasing your online video presence? Course you have, we’re all at it! Well, it’s anecdotally proven that if you have an awesome logo animation at the start of your video/slideshow/presentation, people are 100% more likely to be like “WHOA!” and “I wasn’t sure if I was going to pay attention to this, but I sure as eggs are eggs am now!”.

Sooooo… There’s nothing else I can say here, as it’s all over there! Go! Do!

I haven’t even seen any of the ‘Centipede’ films, so if the above image is a spoiler in any way, I’m sorry. I just wouldn’t know. Maybe you could recommend actual good horror films in the comment section below, because I’m not going to watch any Human Centipedes. I might watch ‘The Human Centrepiece’.

I’m thinking that, like everything, controlling one’s temper is just a matter of training. The most useless and frustrating argument I hear about human behaviour is: ‘It’s just the way I am’. Saying anything is ‘just the way you are’ is like saying your car’s natural state is rusty or your natural state is ‘died of malnutrition/dehydration’. Everything we do requires some sort of effort and training. That’s how we become the humans we know. The way you currently are is a result of all the millions of tiny decisions and often imperceptible experiences that have made up your life thus far. If you choose to work out regularly, then you are likely to be a healthy (or at least physically fit) person now. In the same way, if you chose to control your anger whenever things frustrated you, you will be a person who has a long temper (aka patient). It works for everything because that’s just the way it works. We need to remind ourselves of this, often.

We’ve been watching a lot of creativeLive lately, and the latest tutor, Roberto Valenzuela proclaimed that he doesn’t believe in talent and doesn’t have excuses for anything he does; wrong or right. He’s the sort of person who is ultra disciplined and will put the hours in to become an expert in whatever he wants to do, whether that’s being a concert guitar player and teacher or a top wedding photographer. Or both. He is living proof that training can make you whatever you want to be, whether it’s a patient, happy person or a virtuoso (or both). Not everyone will want (or need) to be as dedicated as Roberto, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to train yourself.

So do it. Take control of your choices, how you react to people and situations, how you spend your time. Become an expert pastry chef. Become the greatest lover your partner has ever had. Become a kind and generous friend. Become a super human, rather than a neglected rust-bucket. It’s just choices and effort. What else do you have to do on Earth with your finite existence? Make choices, make effort, make yourself happy and brilliant.

It dawns on me that tempers rarely lengthen with age. I intend to buck this trend. Somehow

It’s flippin’ good up here in Edinburgh Fringe. You should come. When you arrive, you may feel overwhelmed, disorientated, homesick, so to help you find your way to the very finest the fringe has to offer, we’ve written down a few of our highlights for you.

In case you missed previous updates (including our ever popular facebook photo gallery) We’ve been working with the completely wonderful and talented Jessica Pidsley and Matt Bannister for the last year (approximation) on 60 minutes of interactive projections and films for the stand up show ‘Jessica Pidsley’s I Can Make You Think‘.

It’s on at 13:40 every day at the Underbelly, Daisy. There’s only three more chances to see it so hopefully we’ll see you there today (Or tomorrow, or the next day. Monday, I think it is).

We also did the video sequence that kicks off the phenominal hit of the Fringe, Coalition. But that’s been completely sold out the whole time so you may not see that here (as in you’re not allowed, not that you perhaps won’t. It’s full. There’s a distinct lack of room for you. I’m sorry if that seems harsh, but it’s really not. It’s for health and safety reasons, as much as anything).

So there you have it. If you saw awesome things we missed, let us know! If you do it quickly enough, we might get chance to see them too and be ever so grateful and in awe of your wisdom, good taste and willingness to share. You rock!

It’s worth mentioning that we were big fans of Folio’s products before Stewart got in touch with us, and we’ve been highly recommending their albums whenever we get the chance. We’re even designing a couple for some projects we’re doing at the moment.
