I am vegan and like the Pizza here. They used to have a great slice called the "Marinara" but they have changed the recipe and taken the oil out of the pizza dough. They have a new vegan cheese on a slice called "The Nomaggio" (that's right, vegan, sans casien). I am alittle concerned because for the past two days they have been closed. (No signs/notices) I wonder if it is for renovation or maybe a citation from DOH. I hope they reopen soon

I'm re-reviewing this place with a heavy heart. I was so into them when they first opened, and for a while after that, but they've really dropped the ball in recent months.

The food is now often luke warm when it comes out, the tempeh and grilled veggie fillings have both been blah when I've gotten them in tacos, and the service has been atrocious! Like, crazy frazzled waitstaff and occasionally surly to boot!

I think they did themselves a disservice when they doubled their space and expanded their hours. It seems the kitchen just can't keep up in terms of quality.

I've heard the original older sold Papacito's to new management, which could explain things. If I lived right in the neighborhood I'd probably still swing by every now and again, but it's no longer worth the effort for me to go out of my way to eat here.

have options that aren't super boringly vegan. fun place, crowded at times so they staff can be impatient/rude but they are working hard.

So I am actually sitting writing this review while eating Bristen's veggie burger. It is DELICIOUS (as are their fries!!) While this is not a vegan/vegetarian restaurant the staff knows if items are vegan and even have a vegan brunch option (though I have yet to try the tofu scramble.) The burger is great, the staff was very nice, and only complaint is that they were slightly on the higher end price wise ($10.29 for burger and fries) but definitely worth it if you are in the mood for a good burger!

I love Papacitos. Best burritos around, though if they used Daiya they would be even better.
There nachos are awesome, though a bit too much "stuff" to chip ratio in my opinion. I end up needing a fork to eat my meal.
There 4pm-7pm happy hour with $5 burritos, and either 4 or 5 dollar "meat" nachos is spot on.
Only complaint is the service is slow, they are great, but it can take a while just to get asked if we want a drink, or water.

Updated: Went there in November for the first time in a few years with family. My sister and mother who both have worked or do work in the hospitality business laughed at the inept service. I wasn't rude, but poor.
Went back there for lunch a week ago and the service was most excellent. Super friendly, made recommendations, and even joked about the weather. This was not just one waitress, but two and the manager behind the register.
Maybe they are improving and that would be a good thing.

my partner and I eat here about once a week we love the food so much. The chicken sandwich is a great deal and so delicious! We've only had delivery, but that has been fast and friendly.

got an email back from them today:
"the veggie burger is vegan, just skip the avocado spread, it's got cream cheese in it; we don't have the earth mother but have dozens of veg toppings; the linguine broc is perfectly vegetarian, but almost all pasta has egg yolk; the pizza dough is only flour, yeast, salt & oil. Also check out our Louisiana red beans 'n rice and our blackbean chili, both are vegan!

This place has no business calling themselves VEGAN. I luckily noticed the Soy Cheese Wontons have dairy. This makes me wonder, what exactly is in the Soy Cheese Wontons I've been eating at Dao Palate, the "Vegan" restaurant under the same ownership? Ugh!

I want to make out with the French dip sandwich. It is my favorite sandwich in the world. The only thing that would make it better is if they had daiya to put on it instead of Follow Your Heart, which doesn't melt too well.
As far as deli items go, I've tried the truffled white bean dip, hummus, beet salad, potato salad, and jerk seitan. Everything was amazing except the white bean dip, which I found a little bland and disappointing compared to the other things. I doctored it up at home with some truffle salt and lemon juice though, and now it's bangin.

So I just thought I should leave a note telling everyone that the chocolate they use in all their hot chocolate (incl. the Mayan, ugh) is NOT VEGAN. After countless times in a row of asking for a Mayan "vegan, with soymilk and no whipped cream" this is the FIRST TIME a waiter thought to mention that the chocolate has dairy in it. Not cool!!!!!! :( I feel a bit gross that I got it a bunch of times already but I'm glad I know and won't be getting it again.

Without ever liking non-dairy ice cream myself, I fell into what I will call, �The Lula's Hole'. One word, amazing!! After going in a few times, and talking to the over friendly staff, I learned all the ice cream is made in-house with what appears to be love. (Really, you can taste the love in the product). On any giving day, they have about ten different hard ice cream flavors and two soft serves. I very much appreciate them listing what is soy, and what is nut based. From what I could tell they go the extra mile to make sure all details are clear, understandable, and presentable. The shop itself is very cozy, with a classic ice cream parlor feel. They also sell non-dairy sweets, pints of ice cream to go, and gift cards. I would very highly recommend Lula's for anyone who wants to treat themselves to high quality ice cream that's very moderately priced and something just a little different.

Let me begin this with, I LOVE SACRED CHOW'S *FOOD*. The food, that's it, everything else needs some improvement. The menu is kind of confusing. It doesn't apprear that they have many main courses because the tapas seemes like appetezers at first. The specials board is usually hidden behind a seated person so you have to walk over to read it. The temperature is always too hot or too cold. There is always the same server on when I go and she is so slow. It doesn't bother me to wait but she doesn't attend to people in the order that they arrived and when she finally gets to you doesn't give you her full attention. There really should be more than one server on at a time. Once your order gets in it is out quickly but you really have to flag the lady down to tell her what you'd like. As for the food- I've never ordered anything that wasn't excellent and it keeps me coming back. The brunch and tapasare the best, but never go to Sacred Chow if you're planning on a quick meal.

There's nothing bad to say about this place. They have me running out to get ice cream in early February so you know it's got awesome. I love that they'll let you sample any and all of the flavors until you figure out which one(s) you'd like. Excellent for all you undecisive types.

This place, tightly sandwiched into a prime spot on 125th St, is definitely worth seeking it out. Their food, tightly packed into little containers, is pretty much guaranteed to be AMAZING. It's kind of a mix of vegan "soul food" and "ital" that totally works. It's also usually pretty packed with people running in and out of there, who all know exactly what they want. Beware, though, the other customers can be pretty rude - the times I've gone there, they were pretty easily offended (sorry to be the intruding white person... there is definitely that vibe). But the customer service from the staff is fine. Overall, their food is pretty affordable, and REALLY good, so come stop by and support them!

It is going downhill fast. I really liked this place for what it was, but as of late it isn't even hitting the greasy/gross but good mark, just greasy/gross. I was really excited when they added onion rings, but they came out two different colors and were like little grease pockets (not exaggerating - it was squirting out and I couldn't eat them in the end)- I think some were old and some new. Last night was another disaster involving tempeh that was unseasoned and tasted raw. Kate's has better vegan onion rings (I never thought I would recommend Kate's over any place) and for this kind of food I now feel like I should wait until I'm in Manhattan for Curly's - where it tastes 10xs better, actually has a little nutritional value, and costs about the same. This is a shame because I want to support them and like that they connect with the activist community, but it is already prepackaged kind of stuff and isn't being prepared properly.
