Flashing a mouth full of pearly whites can be one of the sexiest features on a girl. On top of that, your teeth can also let everyone know just how healthy your mouth, and the rest of you, really is. And while I’m sure none of us would like to undergo the dreaded root canal, sometimes we eat or drink certain things that can take a real toll on our teeth and dull our perfect smiles.

So how do we ladies avoid this? Well keep reading my fellow beauty queens so you can find out which 3 ingredients you should avoid to keep your pearly whites looking, well, oh-so-pearly!

Fruit

I bet you didn’t expect that one. I was just as shocked to hear it as well but it’s true, citrus fruits and berries can be some of the worst offenders for dulling your teeth. With that being said, they should still be a part of your healthy diet as they are choked full of healthy vitamins and antioxidants, but the downside is they are also incredibly acidic which ultimately eats away at the enamel on your teeth. And while it won’t become an overnight issue, your teeth need strong enamel to fight against disease, decay, and to keep your smile as beautiful as ever.

Thankfully, there is a solution!

If you just can’t give up your favourite fruits, try blending them into a smoothie and drinking it with a straw. That way the acidic juice bypasses the front of your teeth and will cut down on the amount of damage done. Or if you are just not a smoothie type of gal, consider eating your fruit with a meal or brushing your teeth after each time you eat a piece of fruit.

Vinegar

It’s a staple in my kitchen, especially if I’m making my own salad dressing or virtually any Asian dish, but like fruit, thanks to it’s acidity level, it is absolutely horrid for your teeth. Luckily, vinegar is a bit easier to deal with than fruit and a good solution to combat the damage done to your teeth is to simply rinse your mouth out after eating anything with vinegar in it. Now, while I’m fully aware this can get a little tricky, especially if you are out on a hot date, you might want to consider excusing yourself and escaping to the ladies room. It may be a tad inconvenient but it is a lot better than ending up with brittle teeth that can break with the simplest bite. After all, broken teeth are not exactly a good look for us ladies.

Red Wine

I mean, can we ladies not catch a break? Not only should we stay away from fruit and anything made with vinegar but now we have to give up our beloved red wine? What a cruel world. However, unless you are okay with a permanent ‘red wine smile’, and you red wine drinkers know exactly what I’m talking about, you may want to consider rinsing your mouth out with water after each glass. Again, not the easiest solution but definitely a must-do for all my fellow red wine drinkers who know first hand just how ‘sexy’ we can look after a few glasses of the red.

After all, shouldn’t we strive to combat the red wine smile at all costs? That’s what I thought.

So if you want to keep flashing those pearlies, try your best to avoid these 3 ingredients. And if you just can’t resist, at least try to rinse your mouth out, or better yet bring a travel toothbrush in your purse. It could come in handy in more ways than one…if you know what I mean! *wink*

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, or ASPS, recently released the 2011 statistics concerning cosmetic surgery procedures in the United States. The findings were not surprising. The numbers of cosmetic procedures, both surgical and minimally-invasive, are up 5 percent in the last year. According to the report over 300,000 women went under the knife to enhance their breasts. Breast augmentation was the number one cosmetic surgery performed in the United States in 2011, followed by nose jobs, eyelid surgery, and facelifts and of course one of the most popular, abdominal liposuction.

Why are so many women willing to undergo major surgery in the name of beauty? What is wrong with the assets nature has provided? The typical patient undergoing breast enhancement is a woman with smaller breasts. Next in line are usually mothers who are looking to put their boobs back where nature originally placed them after pregnancy and breastfeeding took their toll. Some women find themselves so well-endowed that they opt for breast reduction. And yet others are looking to reconstruct their breasts after surviving breast cancer or to correct a deformity.

In the end, the majority of women seek cosmetic surgery to feel better about themselves. They have spent thousands of dollars to compensate their surgeons despite the unchanging plastic surgery prices. They hope to get a little closer to society’s ideal. Hollywood paints a picture of waifish beauties with large breasts, flawless skin, and long flowing hair. These images are impossible to avoid. They are in movies, on TV, in magazines, and on billboards. What women may not know is that while society may be pushing them to conform to an impossible standard of beauty, men may not want them to.

The average American woman wears a size 14. The average American woman wishes to fit into a size 4. Many recent polls suggest that the average American man finds a size 12 woman to be ideal. Men are usually attracted to curves. Breasts are the number one body part that men report being attracted to. Contrary to popular belief, breasts don’t need to be huge to attract the attention of a man. Men love breasts of all shapes and sizes. While personal preferences do exist, for the most part a man loves any breasts he has access to.

Another curvy asset that attracts men is the behind. A round bottom is at the top of many men’s list as their favorite part of a woman’s body. It is no wonder that a man would prefer a woman with a softer, curvier body. Between the breasts and the butt, a theme seems to be emerging of an attraction to a rounder, softer form. A body that is undeniably feminine.

Women tend to use scented shampoos and hair care products that make their hair not only a visual treat to look at but also pleasing to smell and feel as well. Men love running their hands through long locks, or brushing a strand off of a cheek.

Look in any woman’s purse and you’re likely to find a tube of lipstick. Enhancing the lips is a staple in most women’s makeup arsenal. Men love lips, usually leaning toward preferring a fuller, kissable mouth.

More than just visual, men are tactile creatures as well, and not surprisingly a woman’s skin is another sexy feature. Again, personal preferences prevail when it comes to skin color, freckles, etc.; men report skin-to-skin contact as highly arousing.

Men overwhelmingly prefer a natural beauty to women nipped and tucked into a near impossible silhouette. Extreme weight loss, plastic surgery, and cosmetics, none of these things will give a woman what men often find most attractive of all; confidence. Regardless of body shape and size, being comfortable with her body will always be more attractive to the opposite sex.

This past Wednesday I sailed around NYC with the most stylish bloggers thanks to Glam Media and Hawaiian Tropic’s Things We Love event. From beginning to end the event was filled with luxury, fun and major goodies!

Hawaiian Tropic gave us the opportunity to learn about their newest product and I’m so glad I was there for that. No one loves a tan more than me, but being a beauty blogger I also know the importance of protecting your skin from the sun. And I can’t lie — the fun continued for me when I got home and got to go through my swag bag! First of all the bag itself has become my new beach bag. The bag contained all sorts of Summer essentials like a bikini bag (to place your wet bathing suit in), OPI nail polish, hair products and even makeup. I feel more than ready for Summer now.

Essie has over two hundred nail polishes and is still adding to the collection every season. However, no matter how brilliant a color or how trendy it is, it’s hard to forget the classics. The reason that some colors become a classic while others don’t is because they have staying power as well as versatility. They always look fashionable and can be used to create pretty much any sort of nail art design that you have in mind. In addition to this many if not most women who follow the brand know each and every one of them by name and can pick them out of a lineup fairly easily. Here are my favorite five classic Essie polishes.

Marshmallow

You’ll be hard pressed to find a girl who hasn’t tried Marshmallow on at least once. Amongst my friends, it was one of the first colors that we tried when we first started getting our nails done years ago. Due to the fact that this color is often used to do a traditional French manicure it is known to be one of the most popular colors on the line

Ballet Slippers

If you prefer a more neutral color or one that is sheer then Ballet Slipper is for you. A favorite of many polish lovers this award-winning pink polish is one of Essie’s top sellers. The sheerness of the color makes it great for combining it with other colors. In fact I like to layer it over one coat of Fiji  for a more toned down look, but we’ll get to that color in a minute.

A List

Another award-winning color but this time in a stunning shade of red. There’s no other way to describe A List but to say that it’s sexy, sophisticated, mysterious and demure all in one. It looks great the hands as well as the toes and looks good with any outfit and on any skin tone. There really is no wrong way to wear it.

Fiji

Many women like to paint their nails with Fiji before going on vacation because it’s such a deliciously vibrant shade of pink. However, applying Fiji isn’t just for your time to have fun under the sun. It’s a color that is mostly worn in warmer climates but has the power to brighten up even the dreariest of days so be sure to apply it when you need a bit of cheering up.

Wicked

Although it almost looks black in the bottle, Wicked is actually a very, very deep shade of burgundy. It’s a classic color that looks good on any skin tone and can go from punk to dressy depending on your mood and personal style. If you want to give it a new twist try using Wicked to do a moon manicure.

Whether they’re amongst your favorites or not, chances are that you’ve seen and tried out at least one of these classic colors by Essie. Hopefully your favorite brings back some great memories as well.

This past Sunday I attended The Makeup Show NYC 2012 and was completely blown away. This place was paradise for beauty enthusiasts and makeup professionals. I arrived at the makeup exhibit pretty early expecting the crowds to be at a minimum, but was wrong. There was an explosion of people, but luckily we were all in great moods and happy to be in a sea of colors, lashes and other products.

As expected, MAC Cosmetics, NARS and Makeup Forever had the most outrageous lines had ever seen. I couldn’t even get close to them. I did however leave the exhibit with the two products I was dying to try and just never got the chance to purchase — the Beauty Blender and Model In A Bottle. (Reviews on the two will be up shortly!)

As hectic as that building was that day, it was equally amazing. You couldn’t turn a corner without seeing beautifully arranged products, demonstrations and makeup galore. I already can’t wait to see what next year’s exhibit will bring.

Have you ever been embarrassed about sweating a little under your arms? That has to be one of the most annoying things to deal with. Under arm sweating can sometimes be a little difficult to avoid. It might be the weather affecting it or certain situations. Either way it’s something no one wants to deal with.

I found a product that has been working so great for me and keeping my underarms DRY! By incorporating a new antiperspirant called CERTAIN DRI, I noticed a big difference instantly. This is something I suggest for those of you with excessive perspiration or with Hyperhidrosis. I’m using the roll-on one, but a solid version is available as well.

I apply it about every 2 days after my shower at night and in the morning use my regular deodorant. CERTAIN DRI has no scent, doesn’t burn or feel uncomfortable and dries instantly. You can find this at your local drugstore, so no more worrying about wearing your favorite bright colors and tops.

Airbrush makeup has been around for a while now, but not since recently did I actually try it. Using the absolute cutest airbrush machine, in pink, by Luminess Air is any girly girl’s dream.

My Luminess kit came complete with the pink airbrush machine, primer, foundation, blush and bronzer. A DVD also accompanies the kit with easy to follow directions. After watching the video I felt more than comfortable to get started and I did. The first spray feels a little weird, but you quickly get used to it.

It feels a little unnatural to go in small strokes to apply an airy makeup. At first I thought there wouldn’t be enough coverage, but you get the advantage of layering as much or as little as you’d like.

I have to say your skin looks flawless in photos and I can only imagine on TV as well. I was impressed with Luminess airbrush makeup, but I do enjoy applying my makeup the old-fashioned way. Mostly because there are so many more products to choose from. Check out Luminess Air for yourself, there are several kits to choose from.

Who’s ever said that drugstore foundations don’t offer great coverage? I once did, but I take it all back! I’m the kind of girl who loves full coverage from my foundation. I don’t necessarily need it, but what’s the point of putting on makeup if you want to look super natural?

Lately my go-to foundation has been CoverGirl & Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation in Golden Tan. I am absolutely in love with the coverage I get from this foundation. The foundation is a creamy consistency that blends into your skin naturally. My makeup stays put all day which is important to me and anyone else who is busy, busy, busy.

The one con: I have oily skin and this foundation leaves me a little shiny. In the Summer especially I don’t like this, but I apply a little bit pressed powder and the shine is gone. If this foundation came is a matte finish I would stock up on it instantly.

Something else that’s caught me off-guard from this foundation is the scent. It smells so good that I actually look forward to applying my foundation. CoverGirl shows us that great looking makeup doesn’t have to cost us too much.

The Makeup Show is just a week away in New York and I could not be more excited. It’s going to be my first year attending and I know I will be going crazy. The two-day exhibit consists of classes, seminars and shopping for makeup everywhere you turn. Basically it’s like a candy store for the beauty obsessed.
