Incredibles Costumes | The Incredibles are a family of superheroes that live in the City of Metroville, after having been relocated there by the government.  It seems that the Supers, as they’re called, began to create too much collateral damage in their crime fighting efforts, so they were forced to hide their identities, placed into a relocation program and ordered to fit in with the rest of public.

Of course Mr. Incredible (Bob Parr) cannot stand not using his super powers to help people and dons his Incredibles Costumes on Wednesday nights to do crime fighting.  Soon the inevitable super villain shows up in the persona of Syndrome, as voiced by Jason Lee (My Name is Earl fame) and pits Mr. Incredible against a super robot that is eventually defeated through the efforts of the entire Incredibles family.

Batman and the Batman costume have been a part of the American experience since May of 1939 when he appeared for the first time in Detective Comics #27.  Batman’s creation was part of a call that was put out for the development of more superheroes due to the overwhelming success of Superman comics.  Batman’s dark character was somewhat of an immediate hit with the comic’s readers.

One of the things that have stayed pretty much the same with Batman over the years is the story of his origin.  As a young boy Bruce Wayne witnesses the murder of his parent’s by a mugger named Joe Chill.  At their graveside the young Bruce Wayne vows to wage war on all the criminals in Gotham City.  Bruce starts his intensive physical and mental training, but realizes this won’t be enough to battle crime and decides he needs a persona that will instill fear in all criminals.  At that moment a bat flew through the window and the Batman costume was born.

Bruce Wayne’s real life identity is as a millionaire playboy, although recently he got an upgrade to billionaire. As Bruce Wayne he is decidedly unheroic, but when he dons the Batman costume you know all hell is about to break loose.  Even know Batman has no super powers he does bring a wide variety of capabilities to the table.

• The Batman costume incorporates the imagery of a bat to frighten criminals.
• Batman uses a number of vehicles in his crime fighting such as the Batmobile, Bat plane, Batboat, Batcycle and the Batsub.
• His utility belt contains most of the equipment he uses for his crime fighting, such as the Batarang.  At times it can be truly amazing how much this belt can hold.
• All of his various vehicles are well armed, but never for direct use against the criminals and are simply used as a way to remove obstacles.

The Batman costume was originally conceived as black and gray, but do to achieving a consistent coloring from the ink in use at the time the Batman costume became black and blue.  During the sixties the Batman costume was reworked into a campier version with lighter colors.  In the late eighties the Caped Crusader’s costume was returned to its darker roots, which is the one where more familiar with today.

Like The Flash the Green Lantern Costume and its accompanying power ring has been worn by a number of different earth defenders since its creation in July of 1940 by the forerunner of DC comics.  The power possessed by the Green Lanterns has also continued to morph over time, with an example of that being the rings power which was originally magical but in more modern times is a strictly technological creation.  The individual Green Lanterns are part of a larger organization known as The Green Lantern Corps, which is sort of an intergalactic police force.

The Fantastic Four team of superheroes and the Fantastic Four costumes were created in November of 1961 and was the first superhero team to be created by Stan Lee and Marvel Comics.  The Fantastic Four comic book was also the beginning of Marvel Comics rise to fame and Glory.  This Fantastic Four comic book series additionally lays claim to being one of the few that is still on publication since its original creation in 1961.

The Punisher is truly one of the great anti-heroes in the Marvel Universe of characters employing murder, torture, kidnapping and other violent means in his effort to take down crime.  The Punisher’s real name is Frank Castle and he was driven to his unique form of crime deterrents when his family was murdered by the mob after witnessing a contract hit.  Punisher is a one man army and has very few recurring criminals in his stories since most of them wind up assuming room temperature at the end.

The Punisher costume made its first appearance in a 1974 issue of The Amazing Spiderman.  Punisher’s subjective in this issue was to kill Spiderman, since he was accused of the murder of Norman Osborn.  The Punisher character was an immediate success with the readers due to his dark nature and single mindedness.

Punisher is also another character that has no real super powers, he is simply a well-trained and very effective human being.  His list of abilities includes the following.

• He is well-trained in military and battlefield tactics and as proficient in special operations as well as infantry.

• The Punisher costume is made of Kevlar which can protect him from most small arms fire.
• The trademark white skull on the front of his costume is used not only to strike fear into his enemies, but also the draw their fire.  The skull area is the most heavily fortified on his costume.

Punisher Adult Costume

The Captain America costume is probably one of the most recognizable superhero costumes in the United States and is second only to Superman. Captain America came to life in 1940 as a purely patriotic figure and was a response to the Nazism that was running rampant in Europe. The Captain America costume with its red, white and blue theme and stars on both the costume and shield make it very uniquely American.

Captain America’s fictional story begins when Steve Rogers a tall, scrawny young man tries to enlist in the service and is turned down.  A U.S. general though looking for a test subject in a top secret project offers Rogers the opportunity to serve.  Rogers accepts and has subsequently injected with a Super-Soldier serum, which when combined Vita-Rays transforms him into the absolute peak of human physical efficiency.

Rogers is given the Captain America costume and shield, which are designed to resemble the American flag.  The shield is made out of a newly discovered metal and his bulletproof and light enough to be thrown like a Frisbee and when angled correctly returns to the thrower.  Captain America’s main foe for the 1940s was Red Skull who was NAZI Germany’s Head of Terrorist Operations. There are other villains, such as The Fang, Black Talon and White Death included as well that have been battled.

Captain America actually has no super powers, he is simply the peak of human perfection, but here are some of the abilities that he does possess.

• Captain America’s strength, healing, reflexes, speed and durability are all greatly enhanced do to the Super-Soldier serum.
• He also cannot be affected by alcohol (bummer).
• Rogers’s intelligence makes him a great field commander and strategist.
• His bulletproof shield is so effective as a weapon that he is forgone wearing a pistol.
• He’s also skilled at martial arts and hand to hand combat.

Captain America and the Captain America costume have been through a number of changes in the 70 plus years of the characters existence.  In 2011 a feature length film was released and the costume was again modified.  This new costume is sure to be the favorite during Halloween and at costume parties.
