CW Powerglide

2015-05-21T19:20:00.000-07:00

Combiner Wars - Finally a better looking Powerglide. I can't afford to buy the Classic 2.0 Powerglide; so this would be quite a nice value for your money. Basically, Powerglide is one of the G1 mini-bot (and how I wish that Beachcomber and Seaspray would be redesign). When Hasbro announce Powerglide as a legend class Combiner Wars figure; I was really excited. The new figure is the best looking Powerglide known and identical to his animation counterpart. And the best part; he transform himself into a powerful blaster for the combiners. Here is my review of him.

Bio

Aerial acrobat well-versed in dogfighting tactics (seriously??). - Sources: tfu.info

Vehicle Mode

More like G1?
Almost felt like G1

Who would not love the A-10 Thunderbolt? The most powerful airplane on the face of this planet. A tank buster with high-piercing Gatling gun. And not just that, Powerglide is considered a very great aerialbots that can do extreme maneuver and can defeat even a more experience aerial Decepticons. Unfortunately; his jet mode is quite small and overshadowed by the bigger jet plane of the real Aerialbots. Anyway, my only concern about this mode was that it is quite long compared to the previous DoTM figure and the rear wings just can't seem to stand properly due to poor plastic hinges.

Transformation

I can find this figure is quite easy than the previous DoTM Powerglide (that one is a bit of small nightmare). Anyway, to transform him is quite simple as expected from a legend class. The legs is the most easiest parts. There is a hidden compartment at the back of his chest where you pull out or push inside it according to your transformation mode. The wings if folded and form the shoulder parts if you are in robot mode. While both hands became either a tank compartment/missile. Anyway, I won't straightaway goes to robot mode. Instead I did mentioned about his third form (yes, Powerglide is a triple changer).

Special Gun Mode

Its time to combine our weapon. Oops, wrong TV series
Just imagine a big blue laser with missile out of this
Its like a toy gun for Transformers

I never thought that I would see another amazing gimmick since the Targetmaster or the Mini-Con. This weapon can be hold by a voyager class Transformers and the combined form Transformers. Looks better with the combiners than the normal voyager.

Robot Mode

Looks good
Color in high definition
Look ma! I got a tail!

I love this new figure. More solid and more cartoon accurate. It seems that Hasbro did a good job with this figure. I wished they did the same with the rest of the figure rather than a repaint/re-sculpt their existing figure. Unfortunately, he lacks of weapon. But I do praise for his good articulation. His height is also quite tall than most legend or commander class.

Conclusion

Powerglide is a great addition to your Combiner Wars collection. There is another repaint/re-sculpt of Powerglide that really got me excited. The Decepticon Viper which appeared have the Decepticon and Cobra insignia. I would love to get my hands on that figure as well.

Fun Fact - Sources: tfwiki.net

Classics Fireflight, a redeco of Legends of Cybertron Jetfire, was originally intended to be Powerglide, but Hasbro apparently could not secure the trademark at the time.
As an indirect result of the above, Powerglide has the honor of being the only Generation 1 character whose alternate mode was based on a specific make of a real life vehicle (airborne or ground-based) to have multiple new toys which all retain the same alternate mode (artistic license for the sake of circumventing licensing issues nonwithstanding), even extending to an alternate universe counterpart!
Powerglide makes an appearance in one of the five Transformers public service announcements, speaking out against gender discrimination.
3200 miles per hour is Mach 4.16, MUCH faster than ANY modern combat jet, let alone a real A-10 Thunderbolt II... not that jet-based alt modes are known for realism.
He is the only Generation 1 transformer with 4 digits on each hand (if you discount the Monster Pretender shells).

Generation Windblade

2015-05-20T23:10:00.000-07:00

30^th Generation - Meet the official fan-made Transformers; Windblade. According to tfwiki.net; she was officially revealed at the 2013 SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) after running a few polls from fan. What I love about Windblade was she is the first Autobot female that I ever bought (Yes, I bought Airachnid from TFPrime). I think I forgot that I bought Arcee from TFPrime but sold it before I could ever review or displayed it (in this case, that does not count). Well, I really like her appearance and here is my review of her figure.

Bio

When given the opportunity to join the Autobot cause, Windblade jumped at the chance. The Autobots were more than happy to welcome her to the ranks. Her near-telepathic link to the titan Metroplex is a remarkable power that holds untold potential. - tfu.info

Jet Mode

I am Batgirl. Seriously.
The stiletto boot came as standard
Starscream and Slipstream will be jealous of my jet mode

I don't know whether to love the jet mode or hate it. But at least he is a nice addition to the Autobot air strike defenses. The jet is quite small in size compared to the rest of the deluxe Seekers. And I really hate that jet engine stiletto boot thing on top of it. Anyway, there is a gimmick to all of these. Just look at the following pictures.

Fan Mode

Mind the pun. Both fans on the wings can be folded forward. I really do not know the real use for it but somehow it works as a defense mechanism or something. The samurai blade can be mounted below and between the leg. But I don't felt like it as it felt a bit odd.

Transformation

I really hate transforming her. It felt flimsy and fragile. So I am cautious when transforming her so that I won't break a parts. Anyway, although some of the transformation process are quite simple; your only concern is the shoulder parts. I accidentally rotate the pegs inside the shoulder pad backward and it does not seems to transform very well as a plane. Then I lookup the instruction and found out that the peg should rest exactly between her chest part and legs. It is a tedious process that I had to transform her for almost 30 minutes.

Robot Mode

Memoirs of a Geisha
Looks good except for that hollow rectangle crouch
I am a pretty butterfly
Weapons for Mulan

Mulan here; I meant Windblade is a perfect warrior fembot. She looks deadly behind all those beauty. She wears a sort of geisha looks. I think we need more eastern culture influence on the Transformers characters. She can pose a bit but often her leg could not stand very well due to the heavy wings part. It also hinder her posture when posing with the sword except for standing straight. Other than that, she is a perfect fembot warrior. And you can check how deadly serious she is in the trailer below:

Conclusion

As much as I really like the Hasbro version; the Takara version has more beautiful detail on her face and on same parts of her vehicle parts. Even the sword are different in color (red for Takara). So if you are fan of Windblade; I suggest that you get both version.

Fun Fact (Sources: tfwiki.net)

Windblade is the first "officially fan-created" Transformer ever, the culmination of Hasbro's "Fan-Built Bot" initiative program. Two polls on Hasbro's official website allowed fans to determine her character and physical traits (well, most of her traits - her Japanese motifs weren't an option in the poll and seem to be the work of the design team).

From April 18th to May 5th, 2013,[1] fans decided her faction (Autobot over Decepticon), alternate mode (jet over car, truck, tank, spaceship, terran beast [land], avian beast [airborne], helicopter, motorcycle, and construction), signature weapon (sword over blaster cannon, flame thrower, mace, spear/harpoon, morning star, Cybertronian taser, nunchucks, crossbow, and long-range blaster), color scheme (red & black over green & gold, blue & silver, orange & white, or purple & bronze) and personality (valiant over sneaky, hotshot, secretive, wild man, and grumpy)
From May 10th to May 17th, fans voted on name (Windblade over Autobot Eclipse, Charon, Centuritron, Cashtron, Autobot Wraith), gender (female over male), origin (from Kaon, Iacon, Altihex, Kalis, and Praxus) and specialty (telepath over combat medic, bodyguard, recon, and close combat specialist).
Subsequently, Windblade was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, where concept sketches of her (and the piece of finished art to the right) were part of the Transformers brand presentation.

Concept sketches at San Diego Comic-Con showed that European knight (with visor, arm shield, and fencing foil-esque sword) and Roman warrior (with twin swords) concepts for Windblade were considered before her Japanese stylings were finalized. A different pre-production sketch gave her a Japanese hand-fan weapon in addition to her sword. Speaking of her Japanese motifs, her finalized helmet was apparently designed to resemble the hairstyle commonly worn by the onna bugeisha, the upper-class warrior-women of feudal Japan.
At Toy Fair 2014, Windblade was noted as being the handiwork of designer Lenny Panzica, who put "probably five times as much energy" into her as the rest of his workload. A gallery of his work was posted by Hasbro on Facebook.
Her name works on many levels: "Wind Blade" is a real variety of industrial fan blade; she turns into a jet with VTOL turbofans; Hasbro designers had said they envisioned her coursing more energy into her sword blade through a spinning turbine fan in the hilt; She has a tessen, or iron fan; and, of course, she was the fans' choice character.

CW Bombshell

2015-05-18T00:29:00.001-07:00

Combiner Wars - It is a bug world out there. Anyway; this is the second Insecticon that I bought. We are missing the last legend wave (Megatron, Starscream, Gears, Skrapnel, Tailgate, Swerve and Cosmos). Either it arrived a few or none at all (and selling like hot cake). I can't complain much but at least the new Combiner Wars line release Bombshell (and yet to see upcoming Huffer, Blackjack and Warpath). Here is my review of this great and simple figure.

Bio

None Available

Insect Mode

G1 toy was quite simple and really block looking. The Insecticon look more like a vehicle than an insect like it should be. And after a few decade later; the Insecticon finally get the Insect form that they deserved. Just look at it. I really like it very much. Simple and more effective looking than Fall of Cybertron Kickback. The legs can be a bit pointy, so word of advice to not to poke anyone in the eye with it.

Transformation

Transforming this is guy is quite easy. His antennae part will cover the head and the leg will form the back shell. The only part that need to be concern was the hand that form the insect chest.

Robot Mode

I just love this guy. He is the only member in the group who had a mouth cover. He looks deadly accurate like his G1 animation counterpart. I love the arms and legs articulation on this figure and yet the only setback would be the head. It is fixed and cannot be moved. Unfortunately; he does not equipped with any gun except for his head and both hands that look like a cannon. Unfortunately; there were no official instruction on how to change Bombshell into a weapon for other figures.

Conclusion

I only bought two legend class for this wave; Bombshell and Powerglide. I have skip Thundercracker and Windcharger (as I have already got the best version - Takara United Windcharger). Anyway; I don't regret getting the rest but I am sure can't wait for the next wave to arrived (if it arrives though). I will review CW Powerglide soon. Until then take care and enjoy collecting.

Age of Extinction Optimus Prime

2015-05-15T00:53:00.001-07:00

Age of Extinction - It is a guilty pleasure when I saw this figure that was selling for half price. I really can't resist to pick up this figure instead of Grimlock (I hate those bony Dinobots). Anyway; I really felt as a leader class, this figure really shrink almost to a voyager level. I still remember holding my RoTF Optimus Prime and RVS Leader Class Starscream. Those were heavy and was almost difficult to transform. This felt almost like a blown up voyager class. Now here is my review for this figure.

Bio

Optimus Prime has long believed that freedom is the right of all sentient beings. He has never wavered from his belief, no matter what has befallen him in battle. Once again ready to defend the people of his adopted planet, the unyielding Autobot Commander prepares for the battle that will allow the Autobots to reclaim their role as Earth's honored preotectors. Sources: TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

The truck mode is gorgeous. I really love it very much. Beautiful flame decal and very sturdy. I still remember the scene where the Freightliner WFT Optimus transcan the passing by Western Star 5700 Concept and changed immediately. That was really awesome (who need Teletran 1 anyway). You can hide the sword below the vehicle mode by inserting it into the sheath. But not so much with the shield. It can be mounted on the rear but it looks pretty awkward no matter how many time you look at it (skip it).

Transformation

I am surprise that the level of difficulty for a leader class drop down to a more voyager class transformation. It is quite simple without giving you a major headache. There are certain issue that needs to be dealt with especially when transforming the chest. There were rumor that the spring loaded inside the chest will pop out so strong that the head were flown. AND that did really happen to me. I was surprise and lucky that it did not hit my eyes or something. I still felt that RoTF leader class is one hell of a figure to transform. Transforming this figure is like a breeze.

Robot Mode

First of all; I really don't get why M. Bay Transformers design is getting complicated and looks more like the Power Ranger. As a fan for so long; I remember that Transformers were either more mechanical, boxy looking or aerodynamic. But this was too much like a rubber suit to me. The design maybe awesome but as for most of the toyline; it is not like a robot in disguise but a robot in a box shell. To me the only part that worth the transformation was the leg. It felt empty and not that too much of a challenge. And for a modern Transformers toy; this one had the worst articulation. I could only do less than 5 pose with this figure. Luckily; Takara Tomy came up with the new DMK-03 kit. And that one was not everybody's favorite either as it contain water decal sticker.

Conclusion

I have to be honest that if it were not for the cheap sale price, I would skip buying this. And most of AoE toy are now shelves warmer at our local store due to certain surplus. Only those hard to find figure such as voyager Hound, Drift and Slog were quite rare here. So if you considered a fan of this Optimus; I might suggest to get the Takara Tomy AD31 that got more accurate movie color and a new interchangeable face plate. And forget the big First Edition AoE Optimus. That one is crappy as hell for its size (unless you like Optimus with big backpack).

AoE Evolution Pack - Optimus Prime

2015-04-18T01:01:00.000-07:00

Age of Extinction - Sorry for the late update. Been busy with life and collecting some masterpiece along the way. This double pack caught my eyes because of the classic/henkei mold. I already have the AoE Evasion Optimus (but never did review it); so here is my chance to review it all at once.

Classic/Henkei Bio

The greatest in a long line of Autobot leaders, Optimus Prime is a beacon of hope to those who suffer under the tyranny of Megatron. He is devoted to the defense of weaker creatures, and has dedicated his life to fighting against Megatron wherever he goes. He is unwavering in his compassion, which sometimes allows his enemies to take advantage of him, but he is also utterly without fear in the face of overwhelming odds. Where freedom is threatened, he is an unstoppable force, and a mighty defender of justice and right.

Sources - TFU.info

Evasion Bio

Optimus Prime and the Autobots are faced with a new kind of war. Alliances that once stood strong now stand in doubt. Nonetheless, Earth needs their protection more than ever. Optimus Prime adapts, redesigning his alternate mode so he can move unrecognized. If he cannot fight the battle with firepower on the front lines he can fight it with covert maneuvers from the edge.

Sources - TFU.info

Classic/Henkei Vehicle Mode

They called this mold as G3 or Generation 3. I have been wishing to buy this mold since I first started collecting. But I never did get that chance as I was too busy collecting M. Bay Transformers (a decision which I deeply regret). And I am not the only person who wanted this mold so badly. So when a local seller post selling this mold; it will only be second that is sold immediately. And the price for Henkei or Takara United is through the roof. Even when the reissue of Ultra Magnus, it cost around B$150 (USD$100). The only option was to get the KO version. But that was not the case. When a 3rd party company release the Trailerforce (a version of Powermaster Optimus); the demand for this mold is getting high.

Luckily; Hasbro release the evolution pack. Like I mentioned before; I never did get the chance to buy the original classic or Henkei version of this Optimus. Somehow, I really love it very much. So tough looking and sturdy. The truck looks more legit as a movie version than the original 2007/RoTF Optimus. But that is just my opinion. Come to think of it; it does look very similar to Galvatron vehicle mode (TF: AoE).

Evasion Vehicle Mode

My most probably best reason in buying a M. Bay Transformers movie toy was the alternate mode of the Evasion Prime. Who would have known that Optimus would return as his 1973 White Freightliner vehicle mode or simple explanation - his G1 truck mode. Although lack of a trailer; his vehicle mode is awesome except that this is a repaint. The original voyager would have only red color paint and without the flame and with a lot more detail paint especially on the side window. Interestingly; there is another mold that look like this but with a white faded colored paint that represent the movie (almost accurate but still not there).

Classic/Henkei Transformation

The good thing about classic instruction was that it uses illustration rather than 3D animation model. Simple diagram to use. Anyway, for a classic voyager class; this figure has the most simple transformation. Almost most of the Prime figure has the same transformation. And you can say the most familiar will be the leg and the head. The upper hood are removable, so you can easily transform it as an option. The mounted gun can be transform as a dual smoke stake.

Evasion Prime Transformation

Who is not excited to see Optimus Prime turn into his classical G1 truck. I do. But not with this dual pack. The original version were way better even without the flame. The transformation was pain in the ass. Don't expect the transformation is your typical G1 Optimus. I had difficulty particularly on the shoulder area that connected to the front grill. And I always forgot to fold the left and right of the front flap (or back shoulder flap if in robot mode).

Classic Robot Mode

I love this Optimus. So sturdy and good looking. It has been a few decade; since we saw a more faithful G1 looking Optimus. My only concern would be the hand parts. It is like Optimus forgot to pack properly. I guess I don't mind the design flaw that much. He pack one hell of arsenal. He got his normal blaster and then his upper hood became one big fragging gun. Not just that; the smaller blaster can be mounted and became a shoulder weapon.

Evasion Prime Robot Mode

The curse of having to many repaint. I don't remember how many time that this figure was repaint by HasTak. But the most accurate movie Evasion Prime was the Takara Toys R Us exclusive. I really like the original version as for the first time as a voyager; Hasbro done it right. Just look at it. He is so similar like the RoTF Optimus and way better than the DoTM voyager. So the gimmick would be a M. Bay Optimus with a G1 truck mode. That is not just the reason anyone buying this figure. Most of the best reason would be his DoTM Megatron gun. Anyway the gun can be mounted on either top of the truck which looks funny but you can always give it to DoTM Megatron for good cause.

Conclusion

Anyway; for BND$79.90, this figure is worth the money. One voyager can cost you around BN$59.90 these days. And to have both for the same price would be a nightmare. And to buy a classic voyager Optimus would cost even more at eBay. And this is the only reason I bought the dual pack. I already got the original Evasion Prime and I already posted this version to be sold (and so far no one really like this one either). I guess I might get the add-on for the 3rd party APEX armor; so that he could look like a G1 Powermaster Optimus.

Construct Bots - Ironhide

2015-01-18T23:05:00.006-08:00

Construct-Bots - This will be my first posting on Construct-Bots. I was curious on how Constuct-Bots mechanism work and how it differ from the already established Lego Bionicle/Hero Factory line and the normal Kre-O brick line. Hasbro stated that with Construct-Bots; you don't need to remove the parts to transform from one form to another. As an additional info; this Construct-Bots (CB) Ironhide is not my first CB. That would be Starscream and I will review it when the time comes. So here is my review of Ironhide.

Parts

Ironhide makes up of 45 pieces of plastic parts (yes, I've cheated a bit and Google it). As a scout class; there is not much going on. You can finish it up less than 3 minutes. Ironhide comes with a small gun.

Vehicle Mode

One thing you will have to understand about CB vehicle form was that; it was never meant to copy a real life vehicle. The closest thing you will get was a sort-of-Cybertronian vehicle. I really do love the vehicle mode. Sort of bulky but fairly minimize look. Almost look like a dune buggy.

Robot Mode

I love how Ironhide really look and feel. Felt like a younger version of him. Skinny and not much going on for a weapon specialist. He should be; no he deserved to be a triple changer or an Elite Class. But that is what CB is all about. Customization. Get the rest of the CB figure and you can make him a bad ass that he deserved to be.

Conclusion

I think the rear view picture has a wobbly leg. But that does not mean he is not sturdy. One thing I am amaze about CB was that it is quite sturdy and sometimes can be heck of a nuisance. Why? Some parts need to be push hard into the pegs itself. I never did try to customize CB much as I love them the way they are. But who knows that some day, I might show you a customize version of them.

30th Generation Nightbeat

2014-12-30T06:54:00.001-08:00

30^th Generations - Welcome back! It has been a very busy month and now I am finally back. I have uploaded Nightbeat picture to Flickr but never got the chance to review the figure.

I never knew Nightbeat in the first place as he never did appear in the G1 animation. Instead I only know the headmaster Minerva who has the same mold as him. I have just read the Marvel G1 and I know that he plays an important role in the Autobot rank. He seems to be more of a detective than a crazy son of a gun. Anyway; if you bought this figure and you saw the comic that came with it, you will also wished that he would have the same mold as Jazz. Instead, you got another retool/repaint of Bumblebee. Here is a review of Nightbeat.

Bio

To Nightbeat, the greatest threat to the universe isn’t the Decepticons, it's secrecy. The Autobot sleuth is relentless when it comes to unearthing the truth. He'll stop at nothing to get to the bottom of things, even if it means confronting bots far more powerful than he is. Sources - TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

Basically, I will not mentioned the whole mold thing (oh wait); I have not even reviewed 30^th Generation Bumblebee. Did I forget about him? Just joking. I did and here is the review of Bumblebee. Anyway, Nightbeat remain faithful to its G1 livery. The blue painted scheme and the flame livery. Unfortunately, he is not something new and sometimes I do wish that he was a retool/repaint of Jazz.

Transformation

I did not mentioned the transformation process in my previous Bumblebee post. Nightbeat/Bumblebee transformation is quite easy. The only thing you need to be aware was the sliding mechanism on the chest area which reveal the head.

Robot Mode

Although you will get tired of me whining about repaint and retool; I think I like Nightbeat more than Bumblebee itself. This mold is quite good but the head is a bit too small and obvious. But that is just a minor problem. I do love his head sculpt. Really reminds me of the G1 version except for the chest area. G1 Nightbeat had a yellow chest while this guy had he yellow colored ridges. And I really hate how Hasbro is too lazy that they can't even give Nightbeat a proper weapon rather than the same weapon as Bumblebee. And that goes to Goldfire/Goldbug.

Conclusion

I can't say that if I really love or hate this figure but I do know that I really need him in my collection. He is one of the original G1 characters and there were never an appearance of him whether in the movie or animation except as a Mini-Con. And I do wish that Hasbro was not lazy and create a new mold that has functional headmaster like the new Generation Brainwave. I do hope that would soon be a reality.

30th Generations MINI-Con Assault Team

2014-11-04T22:24:00.001-08:00

30^th Generations - Sorry but I have to put both insignia faction on this one. Mini-con was actually a tool for both faction to be used during the war until those Mini-cons were sent to earth according to Armada timeline. A combine Mini-con was not a new things in the Transformers world. To my knowledge; most Mini-cons will combine either into a sword or a weapon of mass destruction. But this group of Assault Team is made of three Mini-cons; Heavytread, Runway and Windshear. This three will combine into an almost deluxe class Centuritron. Due to the nature of a combiners; I will split the review individually and squeeze the content as pack as possible. Here is my long review of this figure(s). So bare with me...

Bio

As Shockwave explained his role in the Dark Cybertron prophesy to Galvatron, a swarm of seventy billion Ammonites descended upon Cybertron, with Centuritron front-and-center among the throng of invaders. Sources: TFwiki.net

The MINI-Con Assault Team

Heavytread

Heavytread's small size makes him an incredibly maneuverable tank on the battlefield, giving him both firepower and the speed and agility to make him a hard target to hit. As a member of the Mini-Con Assault Team, he can combine with Windshear and Runway into Centuritron.

Vehicle and RobotMode

Heavytread looks like the muscle of the team. His alternate mode is a tank. Quite a good choice of vehicle mode. Anyway, his turret cannot be rotated due to it simplistic design. I love his tank mode compared with his robot mode. His right eyes was intentionally blind. Maybe due to battle related incident. There is not much articulation on this commander class figure and I really do not like the hollow parts on his shoulders and hands area. Another thing that I really dislike was the big 'CE' on the tank turret. As we expect from a commander class figure; the transformation was quite easy. You have to remove the turrets part to make it as a weapon.

Heavytread form the leg parts (that is why he need to be tough and sturdy than the rest).

Runway

Runway is the speediest member of the Mini-Con Assault Team, able to take out targets at any range with his twin arm-cannons. As a member of the Assault Team, he can combine with Windshear and Heavytread into Centuritron.

The name is quite a good one. Then I remember that he is one of the Mini-con that form the legendary sword from Armada timeline - Star Saber. Anyway, Runway has an interesting jet plane mode. For a small plane; he sure have a lot of power on those engine thrusts. Anyway; he looks a bit like Dreadwing (TF:Prime). His headsculpt that really gives it away. His rear engine became a sort of energy cannon weapon. His transformation is easy peezy lemon squeezy. All you need to remember was to put his weapon between the wings to complete its vehicle form.

Runway is the middle part that form the middle part, the torso and the hands part.

Windshear

Windshear is the Mini-Con Assault Team's combat support. Her helicopter mode's stealth capabilities render her undetectable in combat, allowing her to sneak up on a target and strike before they even know what's happening. She can combine with Runway and Heavytread into Centuritron.

Here is the part where she is the worst among the trio. But read up the positive parts first. Windshear is the most important part of the trio, the head. She got quite a sleek helicopter mode and her machine gun can be mounted on the front cockpit. Both her chopper blade is functional. I love her vehicle mode as it looks like an Apache gunship. Her robot mode looks like she is the Cybertron mode of The Wasp from Marvel The Avengers. Just look at her. She looks like an insect. Her transformation is easy and here is where I am really frustrated with Hasbro lack of quality. The cockpit always pops up for no apparent reason. It seems that the peg that hold the cockpit together is quite weak. And that is just the start of it. Wait until we combine it into Centuritron.

Windshear forms the upper part of the body and hidden in its body is the head of Centuritron (The only female combiners that in my knowledge.)

Centuritron

Combine Mode

Sorry for not taking the picture of the combining method. As I mentioned on the above segment; each MINI-Cons are a small parts that form Centuritron. Heavytread was the most easiest as you just need to push the head and both hands to the back. However, Runway is a bit tricky. There is a rotating mechanism inside its body. There is a hidden pair of hand inside his legs. The tricky part was to put Runway hands inside the body. Windshear has a hidden head inside its body. Pull that up and the Windshear leg makes up the backpack of Centuritron. Now the fun parts begins, Heavytread combines with Runway and lastly put Windshear on top. Make sure the stupid cockpit of Windshear put inside the nose of Runway jet mode. Don't forget to align the blade of Windshear. Tadaaa.. Now you got an almost deluxe size robot.

Conclusion

I will cut this short since I have reviewed each of those small MINI-Cons. Although this is a new innovation and improvement for Hasbro. I found out that there is a lot of flaw in this new figures. First of all, the quality just felt off compared to the rest of the commander class. Almost felt like the DoTM legend class which was really bad. For a combiner; his articulation is very limited. You cannot expect a great pose out of this figure. So don't expect thing too much. But I do praise Hasbro for this new innovation and really pushing the MINI-con into a new height. And if you pose it on the side, you will see how much expose this figure really is on it chest part.

So if you want the comic book that came with this figure; I suggest to get the Hasbro version. But if you want a good looking MINI-Con; get the Takara instead which has shiny metallic color (but the problem still persist). One more thing; those peg you see can actually be used in older Armada mold. I did Google it and someone did test it out nicely.

30th Generations Scoop with Holepunch and Caliburst

2014-11-02T21:35:00.001-08:00

30^th Generations - I never knew who Scoop was until I read the Marvel G1 Transformers. And I did not even realize that he was in there except that he appeared in Transformers Universe. Honestly; I bought him because he is the second deluxe figure who have a targetmasters (exclude the commander class figure). Anyway, I would not mention much due to my lack of knowledge about him; so here is my review of him.

Bio

The fearless resolve of Autobot Scoop makes him one of the most relentless warriors on the battlefield. There's no such thing as danger when you can blast enemies with the combined firepower of Targetmaster allies like Caliburst and Holepunch.. Sources TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

I love this mold due to its classic looks and simplicity. It may be the most unique Transformers that I have ever have and almost felt the quality almost par with the previous Cybertron line. You can mount the weapon on top of the vehicle mode or on the side. And the scoop (mind the pun); works pretty well here.

Transformation

When I told you previously that it got that classic looks; the feeling of transforming this figure was also classical. It is the most simple and quite easy transformation. Almost felt like a commander class. The chest needed to be pull in order to let the shoulder parts rotate and be pushed to the pegs. The cockpit of the driver served as function to hide the head.

Robot Mode

Although I never did knew who Scoop was before but I do love this figure. His articulation is excellent and he can pose pretty well. The only concern was that the ball joint of the shoulder seems expose to wear and tear after many transformation. And be extra careful when rotating his shoulder. That is why the function of the chest was to stop the shoulders from going overboard.

Targetmaster

I have referred back to TFU.info about the original Targetmaster that came with the G1 Scoop. The original name for Caliburst (the yellow Targetmaster) was Tracer. Now it changes to Caliburst (maybe due to some certain legal reason). Both Targetmaster transformation was identical to each other. Simple even a kid can do it. The only difference between each other was the color and nozzle of the gun. Holepunch has a dual sort of machine gun while Caliburst has a single sort of laser weapon. Compared to the G1 Targetmaster; this guys has awesome new detail and the only setback was the peg on their feet (but that won't be necessary be a drawback because maybe it is a tribute to the G1 Targetmaster).

Conclusion

If you heavy machinery like Scoop; maybe this is for you. It took them 30 years to release a new version of Scoop (don't mind the Shattered Glass Scoop as the toy release was named Grindcore). But why do Hasbro select Scoop rather than hundreds of fan most wanted G1 Autobots/Decepticons to be re-released. I'm not complaining because there is not a lot of deluxe figure that came with a Targetmaster. I only remember, Cyclonus and Takara Rodimus were the only CHUG deluxe (forget about those TF:Prime Micron and Power Core) that have a Targetmaster. Next year; we will see the release of Headmaster Brainwave (no, not that ridiculous Brain from DoTM and AoE). All I wished that Hasbro is left behind against wave of third party not-Headmasters and not-Targetmasters figure. Step up your game Hasbro and get away from those movie toys and focus more on Generations.

30th Generation Skids

2014-10-28T09:41:00.000-07:00

30^th Generation - I was excited that Hasbro were to relive the Generation 1 characters into the new 30^th Generation mold. Skids was one of those characters. I never knew who Skids until I watched M. Bay Transformers Revenge of The Fallen. Then I realize after re-run the G1 episodes and saw him there. I have also previously read the Marvel G1 Transformers and found him there. I never did like the movie Skids. Well, I have to say that this figure is a great looking figure but hampered with several issues. Please click read more to find out why.

Bio

Skeleton Legs

With no memory of his life before a few cycles ago, Autobot Skids finds himself with a rare opportunity. Not knowing who he is allows him to be anything he wants to be, and the firepower of his mysterious new blaster gives him the strength to follow through on any adventure he pursues. Sources: TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

We remembered the G1 Skids vehicle mode as a Honda City Turbo (Jazz or Fit in today standard?). Anyway, I really love his vehicle mode. He looks like an upgrade version of CHUG Bumblebee and a lot more sweeter. He had maintain that color and livery since G1 although the blue color is a bit lighter on this new mold. His weapons can be mounted on both side of the rear.

Transformation

I got to say this mold need the most intermediate skill to transform due to a few rotations and steps. The hardest parts was to figure out to keep the mounted missle on his shoulder and hide it inside. Then you need to fix the door to the pegs next to the transformers leg. Do be careful not to over push the door as it seems that it is the most fragile parts of this mold.

Robot Mode

Gimmicks

The weapon gimmick below the hand wrist

Weapon on standby mode

The small weapon can combine with the big weapon to create bigger weapon (and it does not rhyme)

As I mentioned on my introduction; this figure is a great figure but hampered with a few issues that really make this figure almost a piece of crap. I love the new looks on Skids. So much resemblance as the G1 figure. To add to that; it got two weapons that can be combine together, a wrist guns and dual weapon on his shoulder. So what could go wrong? Do you know how many times do I have to take that picture of him standing still? Yes, he is so unbalanced and heavy that every time I want to take his photograph, it falls down. It just can stand still. I did a research and they are telling me that the hips is not corrected (the same did happen with Hasbro G2 Megatron - the green one). Then I found out the error and easily fix it. Now it can properly stand and even pose well. You can check the forum at TFW2005 to find out how to fix the problem.

Conclusion

Skids maybe the best thing ever been released this decade but it is hampered with technical issues that makes him worst than the movie version. I never did understand why Hasbro so tedious to release it without even checking it first (lazy bum). But all in all; he does look good and that is why Hasbro is so eager to release a repaint/resculpt of this mold as AoE Rollbar and Crosscut. And all those issues were already fixed.

30th Generation Armada Starscream

2014-10-26T07:24:00.000-07:00

30^th Generation - A long time ago; I owned the Transformers Armada game on the PlayStation 2. It was a good game and what I love was be able to fight Starscream as its protagonist. It was that point that I really want to watch the Transformers anime/cartoon again. And I did. In my deepest thought; I really want to get the Armada Starscream figure. But it was until I started collecting again that I was thinking of getting it through ebay. Luckily; Hasbro has released a new mold based on the same figure. But smaller in deluxe size and much more better. Here is my review of 30^th Generation Starscream.

Bio

Disrespected by Megatron one too many times, Starscream decides to turn on the Decepticon leader. He once fought to earn honor in the eyes of the tyrant. Now he will stop at nothing to earn his revenge. Info by TFU.INFO

Jet Mode

What I love about the new design was it is sleek and more faithful to the anime/cartoon. Although the color is a bit off due to its light red/orange color compared to the original red Armada Starscream. Instead of pulling the missile mechanism from back to front; the missile is mounted inside the jet engine. This jet mode has a working wheel mechanism on front and rear.

Transformation

Honestly; this new mold is not as complicated as it used to be. The leg are hidden to form the rear. While both hand are mounted on both side. The front cockpit is pulled up and the head needs to be rotate to hide the whole face. The only complication was both shoulders need to be fitted nicely on both pegs on the wings itself.

Robot Mode

There is a slight differences between this mold and the Takara. Takara is identical to the Armada version while this mold sticks with the IDW comic rendition. One thing I do love about this version is the face. The new looks really differentiate between the anime/cartoon type of Armada and the classic comic book style. In other words; it looks great! You can push the backpack and become his classic Armada mode. Beside the mounted missile launcher on his shoulders; Starscream also pack two energon sword (instead of one like in Armada).

Conclusion

If you are a Starscream fans; then this is for you. I just love this figure. The only setback was the hollow parts that is only visible from the side. And for your information; the Hasbro and Takara version looks absolutely different. I do like the Takara version better; and I do hope that I could get a hand on it soon.

SkyRaven Snapshot - Hello everyone! Sorry for the lack of update. A lot of acquisition has been acquired lately including the latest IDW 30th Generation deluxe figure and a few new Masterpiece (in which I should really review those). I have been busy this few days and preparing for the content of this blog; so please stay tune. For the time being; I will introduce you to my official photography blog - SkyRaven Snapshot

30th Generation Blitzwing

2014-07-23T19:49:00.001-07:00

30^th Generation - A long time ago, I am not ashamed to say that I used to have bootleg Transformers. I remember having a white unpainted Optimus Prime, Soundwave, Topspin, Devastator, Broadside and Blitzwing. Those bootlegs were all around even in big supermarket. Blitzwing was one of those short lived bootleg that I had. I do not even remember where I have put it as I was very young back then. I did watched G1 and the movie before but never paid attention to the characters except for those main characters. I only know Blitzwing in the 1986 movie and later in the Transformers Animated movie. He is the type who had personality disorder where he can change his face into different characters. Anyway; here is my review of Blitzwing.

Bio

With his heavily armored and highly destructive body, Blitzwing has the ice-cold mind of a master strategist - sometimes. At other times, he is a boiling cauldron of rage, waiting for any excuse to unleash his firepower on the nearest target. And now and again he is a chaotic whirlwind of bizarre behavior and intermittent bursts of plasma fire. His unpredictability makes him a poor soldier, but his raw firepower and unstable mind make him a useful tool for a commander as capable as Megatron - Source: TFU.info

Jet Mode

I love his Jet Mode. Felt like that he is a bit of crossover of Jetfire and the Seekers. The swords need to be placed to cover the hollow or else it will reveal the tank turret. Despite that; the front looks a bit bigger and the wings span is curiously quite short for a big jet plane. The tank turret can be mounted to the front but I did not bother about it as it looks stupid.

Tank Mode

Although I love the jet mode but I do prefer the tank mode even better. It looks a bit like the M1 Abram tank but with bigger turrets. I have not test out if the turret can be rotated or not. I do want to compare it with ROTF Bludgeon. Maybe next time.

Transformation

The jet mode is the easiest to transform. But the tank mode is a little bit of work. You have to slide and put the pegs in it appropriate location. So again; just like Springer, it is better to read the instruction carefully or else you will break the figure especially on the shoulder parts.

Multiple Face

Default Mode

Tactical Mode

Chaos Mode

Blitzwing very own gimmick since the animated series. At first, I did try hard to pull down the face but it was very hard and have to be pull by force. Anyway; any face you choose is up to you. I do love the tactical mode though.

Robot Mode

For a modern looking figure; he looks a bit stiff. His articulation wise is very limited especially the shoulder parts where it is the most common problem. You can rotate a the arms and legs a bit but it still felt stiff. Anyway, I do love the improve looks of Blitzwing. More menacing than he used to be. With the G1 color livery, he looks so much better.

Conclusion

There were not so many Blitzwing figure in recent year except for the Animated version. This mold has been reissue as Double Dealer and Takara Cloud Starscream. Both does not have an alternate face. So Blitzwing is one of a kind. I do hope that Hasbro/Takara will reissue Decepticon Overcharge with this mold. Even with the technical issue with this figure; Blitzwing is still a great figure to own especially if you are into G1 universe.

30th Generation Springer

2014-07-16T21:24:00.002-07:00

30^th Generation - Finally, a figure that worth to own. Springer was always that Autobot that hang out with Rodimus, Kup, Blurr and Arcee (and sometimes Ultra Magnus). Anyway, he is part of The Wreckers team and after 30 years; he finally deserved the triple changer treatment. I did previously post the Asian Exclusive Springer before and tease you with this figure. After his G1 debut; there were a few Springer figure but none was a triple changers as before except for the third party not-Springer. So this was the epic figure of them all from Hasbro. Here is my review of Springer

Bio

Autobot Springer was built to be a tough guy. Everything about him, from his nickel-plated blaster cannon to his bad-boy attitude, is calculated to communicate exactly what he wants it to - that he's a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners kind of guy. He prefers to fight alone, trusting his skills and luck to get him out of tight spots, rather than relying on his fellow warriors. After all, other Autobots fail. Autobot Springer never does. Sources: TFU.info

Helicopter Mode

The length of the helicopter mode is quite wide. I really like this mode a lot. Without the dual blaster; it looks a bit dull. So it looks better with the blaster. The rotor on top is actually Springer swords and functional.

Car Mode

His car mode looks like a classic crossover and Batman Tumbler from Batman Begin and The Dark Knight. It looks amazing except that I really do not like the head lights. But that was just minor setback. All-in-all, his car mode looks amazing but not as amazing as his helicopter mode.

Transformation

I did try to transform it without manual and it is hard as hell. One thing I learned from transforming triple changers was that it is twice as hard. It is very complex that I can compare the complexity to the GT-R GT Alternity line. So it is advisable to read the instruction and understand what to transform and in whichever mode you are on.

Robot Mode

Springer is a true wonder. Even with the complex transformation and two vehicle mode; he stand really nice and sturdy. Even his articulation is quite good. He maintain his G1 look; only this time looking a bit younger and quite a warrior. He is pack with two weapons; a sword and the dual blaster. I only have one QC problem with this figure; and it was the sword itself. The peg is hard that combine the rotor to become the sword is very hard to combine. But that was the only setback.

Conclusion

When I was a kid; Springer was one of the robot that really astonished me. But he was not the first triple changer that I really like. There were Astro Train and Blitzwing. But both are Decepticons. So for an Autobot triple changer; he was an instant favorite for me. And I was excited to hear the news about his release. Currently; this Springer mold has made it way for other repaint/remold such as Sandstorm and the Takara Cloud Rodimus. I bought Sandstorm and he was also a great figure and I will review it soon.

PS: Sorry; I had forgot to properly place the chest piece on his chest.

30th Generations Megatron

2014-07-13T18:20:00.000-07:00

30^th Generations - Finally, a figure that worth to buy. I bought this last year together with Orion Pax. As soon as I removed it from the box; I just displayed it on my shelves and forget all about it. I never did try to transform or even take a picture of it. But it was this photo session that I finally managed to play around with it and transform it. I was surprise that this figure is actually quite good although it got a few flaw. Here is my review of Megatron.

Bio

There was a time when those who wore the Decepticon badge did so with pride, and not fear. There was a time when the name of Megatron was honored by many across Cybertron. He was a scholar, a warrior, and a hero, fighting for the freedom of the oppressed. But power inevitably corrupts, and none are so powerful as mighty Megatron. Long ago, he forgot he was a hero, and became nothing more than a tyrant. - Sources: TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

I really love his vehicle mode. All this time there is not so much interpretation of Megatron as a jet or a bomber. It is either a gun or a tank. The only things that is close was the Machine Wars Megatron or the Energon Megatron. This vehicle mode looks similar to the stealth bomber B2. If I were a Decepticon; I would bring terror from the skies with my army of seekers. Sometimes; I really wished that Megatron vehicle mode was a triple changer. Just like Blitzwing.

Transformation

This is my first time creating a new segment in my post. Transformation is a bit hard. Both wings itself needs to be remove and combined as his weapon. His legs forms most of his body but that was not the hard part. The hard part was the hand and body parts which are connected by a few pegs. You need to be careful when rotating the hand parts. But after you get the hang with it; it is quite easy as long as your remember the steps on the instruction.

Robot Mode

I just love his new looks. So much detail yet simple in a way. I have read the comic book and it stated that Megatron was given a new body by Shockwave and return to gives Starscream a good spanking. His weapon has a sliding contraption that extend the weapon. Unfortunately; Megatron lacks a lot on the articulation department. Even I found it hard to rotate the head (I think there were none). The lack of articulation makes him more of a stiff figure.

Conclusion

Takara has released another version of this mold but renamed it Megatronus (whats up with the -nus?). Anyway, I don't felt regret having this figure. Compared to the Asia exclusive Megatron (a remold of ROTF Bludgeon); I would rather have this as something fresh from the oven. If you got the extra money; you might want to get the Takara Tomy Megatronus. That one is beautifully painted in glossy black and much more good looking. Unfortunately; it came in a dual pack. So if you are a tight budget; the Hasbro version will suffice.

Review: Transformers 4 - Age of Extinction

2014-07-08T22:26:00.004-07:00

Movie Review - Transformers Age of Extinction was released two weeks ago. After Dark of the Moon; I would thought that Micheal Bay is done with the Transformers franchise. But I was wrong. Very wrong. I have reviewed Dark of the Moon before. Two weeks ago; I was busy reading negative comments about Age of Extinction. I was skeptical at first but yesterday, I watched it with my family and here is my honest opinion and my thought about the movie (WARNING: Spoiler AHEAD). Click more at your own risk.

Teaser Trailer

The Trouble with Fans

Read this first - First of all; I would like to mentioned about the viewer comments about the movie. It seems that these viewers are divided and split into a few group. First; the hardcore G1 fans. Second; the Micheal Bay Transformers fan and lastly, the 'not fan of both but enjoy the movie nevertheless'.

Well; I am merely not a hardcore fanatic of G1 or M. Bay for that matter. I just love Transformers as it is. Yes; I really hate M. Bay Transformers toy design but that is a different arena completely. G1, Masterforce, Victory, Beast Wars, Robot in Disguise, Armada, Energon,Cybertron, Animated and the latest Prime; I watched them all (and I still need to finish some of the series episodes). Each of these stories has different story line and making them unique but easily related. Transformers was all about robot in disguise and about two factions (Autobots vs Decepticon and Maximal vs Predacon) that fighting each other for million of years. And their war has became ours when they arrived to earth.

Find it similar? If you watched most of the series; you will understand. Put aside Beast Wars (which happened million years ago); the rest happen mostly on Earth and sometimes their home planet Cybertron and other planet (as depicted in G1 season 3 and Cybertron series). It also concern human beings and a more powerful being (such as Unicron). Even in G1 Marvel comics; human was either an innocent bystander or against the Transformers completely. Again that is the pattern that has been shown in Dark of the Moon and recently; Age of Extinction.

So instead of being bias on Age of Extinction; I would say Micheal Bay has hit most of the traditional plot without going astray. And honestly; if I was in his seat, I would quit immediately due to stress and hyper tension. But instead; he did it well and like any other movies, there will always be a flaw. Just like in Pearl Harbor; I thought it was a good movie (due to the dog fight and special effect). Minus that; than Pearl Harbor will just be a nonsense love story.

If you are the the 'not fan of both but enjoy the movie nevertheless'; you will experience a very good movie with superb special effect. But if you fans of G1; you will think that it is totally crap. And luckily for M. Bay fans; they will love it very much.

The Review (Spoiler Ahead)

The movie introduced a new breed of Black Ops operative called 'Cemetary Wind'. First it was Sector 7 abolished and after the Chicago incident, I guess NEST has shared the same fate. There were no stories what happens to the humans that were involved in the previous movie as the Government approved that all aliens were exterminate - Autobots and Decepticons alike. Ironically; 'Cemetary Wind' was helped by another alien who was neither Autobots and Decepticons but was working with the so called 'Creator'. His name was Lockdown. His vehicle mode is the super car Lamborghini Aventador (the best vehicle mode since the Ferrari Italia). His mission was to hunt down Optimus Prime.

The Bounty Hunter

Fortunately; Optimus Prime was good at hiding after taking a few hits from Lockdown (and really unfortunate for Ratchet and the rest of the Autobots). It was fate that intertwine when a normal (and not obnoxious like Witwicky) human, Cade found Optimus truck at a bad state. Later Cade found out that the truck was a Transformers. Optimus was confused and he was full of anger towards human. But it was Cade who help Optimus on his feet and again and not very long; the Cemetery Wind found Optimus Prime (due to some idiot who call them). Optimus and Cade group were running away from the these bad guys and trying to find out who is after them.

The Story So Far

Event after event; Optimus was captured (together with Cade's daughter, Tessa) and the rest were trying to rescue him. They found out a revelation something about 'The Seed' and its connection with 'The Creator'. To my understanding; 'The Creator' was the being that responsible for Optimus creation (maybe Primus or the Quintesson). These creator were responsible for giving instruction for Optimus and 'The Knights' for space exploration and terra-forming other planet. So if the creator create Optimus Prime and The Knight first; so why the hell the 7 primes (including The Fallen) exist in the first place. This was the major flaw for the whole story line so far. And these Knights were actually The Dinobots? Another major flaw. It create more question than answer and really confuse even for those who followed the trilogy.

Plagiarism or Coincidence?

Then these CIA Cemetary Wind was involved with a multi-billion company called KSI. These guys were responsible for the death of Autobots and Decepticons alike for one purpose only - 'Transformium' (I don't even know if that is even in the dictionary or periodic table). After the event of Dark of the Moon; most dead Autobots and Decepticons were molten down to create this materials. It was a scarce material that the head of KSI, Joshua Joyce needed more to create his Transformers especially his most prized possession; Galvatron. As we know in G1 movie; Megatron was reformatted as Galvatron. It has the same basic element in it but with a twist of the Animated series. Remember when Professor Isaac Sumdac was extracting technologies from Megatron head? The same thing happened in this movie. Megatron was never dead but was transferred into a new body. A body without a spark and can manipulate element on his will. But his resurrection was rather useless as most of the scene and the final battle centered on Lockdown instead. I guess this was his introduction that might be a sequel to another upcoming movie maybe?

The Dinobots

I was frustrated that The Dinobots scene arrived almost at the end of the movie. But there were some funny scene by Drift who thought that these 'The Knights' would transform into a big car or something due to their huge scale. In one of the scene; Optimus actually knows and recognize these Knights and there is so much that he is hiding even between his fellow Autobots. The Dinobots action was quite an adrenaline rush and most of them were in dinosaur mode in all the scene.

The Human Matters

Anyway; the human involvement in this movie was about helping the Autobots finding the truth while trying to avoid getting shot or smack by a big giant robot. There were a lot of human aspect in this movie; as Cade Yeager was an overprotected father. He is trying the best to be a good father but was slipping financially due to his dream of becoming an independent inventor (which all of his creation was junk). Shane Dyson was dating his daughter and when the shenanigans happened at Cade's home; he was there (I did wonder why he was there in the first place. Stalking his girlfriend maybe?). So basically; Cade Yeager is the new Witwicky and fortunately without the obnoxious attitude and crazy parents. Then came the bad guys. Harold Attinger was a patriot but was rather a villain worthy in the James Bond world. Sadly in the end; he was only interested in money and fortune. Since Dark of The Moon; the human aspect plays a major role in the Transformers world either as the good or bad guy and the innocent bystander.

The New Looks

Somehow some of you will love or hate the new looks of the Transformers. The Autobot looks a bit like the Power Ranger but I do love what they did with Lockdown and The Dinobots. Most of you guys would love Drift but I found out that he was a bit arrogant. Crosshair sounded and looks like a pirate who would do mutiny against his fellow Autobot. Hound was like a retired army soldier who would have energon beer with Leadfoot (I love his 'last stand scene' against the Decepticons. That one was funny and a keeper). And Bumblebee still an obnoxious teenager just like Sam Witwicky. But I do love the scene when Optimus and Bumblebee tried to tran-scan another vehicle. That was more appropriate than the one in the first movie. Honestly; I really hate how Galvatron looks. He looks like a robot pervert with a huge hole on his chest.

Another TV Spot

Conclusion

Anyway, no matter how many fans hated this movie; I still find it enjoyable. It went overboard with the whole trilogy but nevertheless something really fresh and new as promised by Micheal Bay. I think the movie has entirely evolved into a more mature setting. We can't expect to get what we want but at least Micheal Bay has tried to told the story in his own way. Some might like it and most of us hate it. But as I mentioned before; we should not refer the old 86 movie with this one as it will be boring if it does (I do find it cheesy when I watched it again). At least; Age of Extinction approach was trying to be more realistic and somehow I do get the feeling that something big is awaiting for us soon. And since Optimus Prime is gone to meet his creator; I do have a feeling that the Autobot will try to reorganize themselves under a new leadership while facing the threat of Galvatron. Who knows that we might get Rodimus next? Or the return of Optimus Prime as a different entity.

For those who are still skeptical; just watch it and enjoy it as it is. It is not G1, it is not the series that you all love and known. But it is totally fresh and enjoyable at the same time. It is not as good as the 2007 movie but at least it is not terrible as Revenge of The Fallen (I hate that movie). So until then; go grab a ticket and judge it yourself.

Classic Jetfire

2014-07-04T21:27:00.001-07:00

Classic - I bought Treadbolt before I bought Jetfire. I thought Treadbolt was an awesome figure and later bought the exclusive Henkei Dark Skyfire (Japanese version of Jetfire). Later on; it became an obsession and I end up buying the original Hasbro Jetfire through ebay and he came together with Grimlock as a dual pack (and at a good price for an old figure). For your information; the original Jetfire was a Macross VF-1A/S. But in the the animation and Marvel G1 comic book; Jetfire has a totally different look than the VF-1A/S. He is taller and looks like an astronaut. When they released this in 2006; this was the only Jetfire that came close with his animation and comic book characters. Here is my review to find out more.

Bio

Jetfire was once famous across the face of Cybertron. As a great scientist and explorer, he was the first to journey to the black depths of deep space, and the only one to ever face and defeat the Star pirates of the Blot nebula. It was because of his status as a hero that his sudden disappearance was greeted with worldwide dismay. He was discovered millions of years later, frozen deep within the arctic glacier on Earth, and rose immediately to the challenge presented by the Decepticons. He is among the mightiest and bravest of the Autobots, diving into battle without a moments hesitation, the stutteriing roar of his particle beam repeaters drowning out all other sounds. Sources: TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

I have shown on top how the jet mode look like with and without the additional rocket booster. Without the rocket booster; his jet mode looks like a F-15 fighter but with a slight different on the nose. But with the rocket booster; his vehicle mode looks more like the VF-1A/S. I did make a slight error for not sliding the two guns on the rocket booster and take a picture of it. Anyway; I really like the jet mode very much and the design of the vehicle mode is flawless especially the detail on those ridges. The only thing that I really dislike was the livery. It is so annoying with that much red line.

Robot Mode

For an 8 year old figure; Jetfire transformation is quite simple. The only thing that you need to be aware was the helmet that need to be put correctly on the cockpit. Other than that; it is a breeze. First of all; Jetfire looks amazing even for an old figure. But it got limited articulation and the feet is hideous. Not just that; if you put the rocket booster as his backpack; it became heavy and very hard to pose. Fortunately, both leg is quite strong and if it was otherwise it would keep falling down from the shelf.

Conclusion

Jetfire looks like Jetfire but the it is still felt far apart from the G1 character we all known and love. Fortunately; the closest to the G1 Jetfire was the Henkei. And that figure is considered rare and expensive. But luckily; I bought the reissue from Brunei Toyz Hobby. Currently; I have four figure from the same mold. Hasbro Jetfire, Henkei SkyFire, Henkei Dark SkyFire and Hasbro Treadbolt. The only mold that I could never afford to buy was the BotCon 2007 Dreadwind. But I would not mind as I just wanted Jetfire in my collection and this year; the leader class Jetfire will be release. By the looks of it; the robot mode looks very nice compared to its jet mode. Until then; you just have to wait for it.

Fall of Cybertron Ultra Magnus

2014-07-02T22:02:00.000-07:00

Fall of Cybertron - Another and most probably my final Ultra Magnus review (until I can get my hand on the Masterpiece version - Just maybe). Anyway; he is a redeco/repaint of FoC Optimus Prime that I had reviewed before. Why am I getting him? Most probably because of that huge bad ass sword. I do not remember him as a playable character in the single player of Fall of Cybertron (maybe in multi-player?). One thing for sure; he got very nice detail and again; that sword really look bad ass. Here is my review of Ultra Magnus

Bio

Ultra Magnus is legendary among Autobots and Decepticons alike. The mere sight of his armored form charging into battle is more than enough to inspire his troops to victory, and his strength as a warrior is more than enough to break any Decepticon army. Source: TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

Apart from the fact that he is a remold/repaint of FoC Optimus; so I won't bother much on the detail of his vehicle mode. He does got a very good paint job though. So much detail going on.

Robot Mode

So if you owned FoC Optimus before; then I will say it again that the transformation was easy. You just need to be aware of the shoulder part. Anyway; I really love the paint detail on Ultra Magnus. Even his head sculpt looks amazing. It does leave the gimmick of Ultra Magnus being a white version of Optimus Prime (a very common attribute especially on Alternity, United and older Masterpiece version). For a G1 enthusiast; Ultra Magnus fall short on the height department. In G1; he is tall than the rest of the Autobot.

Like I previously mentioned; the only thing I love about this figure was his sword. That big sword is actually very light weight compared to Sideswipe big fragging gun. To me; it is a fresh start for Ultra Magnus who are known to wield a hammer. The sword can be disassemble but I really do not get the gimmick pretty well. TFU.info mentioned that the big sword is a combination of weapon. But I never did try to pose this figure with the separated sword parts.

Conclusion

Although the hype was all about the sword; I still love this figure as a separate entity. Ultra Magnus is a great addition to my FoC collection. So I am going to say that he is a rugged little fella in his own right. There were 3rd party add-on for Ultra Magnus which make him look even better. I don't recall the name of the add-on but it looks pretty amazing.

War for Cybertron Bumblebee

War for Cybertron - I originally wanted to review both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper. But on second thought; I would rather do it individually. Somehow after I took shot for this review; this Bumblebee broke on the left hand part. I really do not know who was responsible for it as I know that I kept it in vehicle mode. Then I found out that Bumblebee was transformed incomplete and there is a broken parts lying on the floor while Cliffjumper was still in vehicle mode and intact. This was the only WFC Bumblebee that I had left. I have already sold off the TRU exclusive Bumblebee. Such bad luck for me. So here is a review of WFC Bumblebee.

Bio

Before he was the silent warrior he is today, Bumblebee was a nonstop chatterbox, charged with carrying the most vital Autobot communications. He was a fearless infiltrator of enemy lines who stuck to the shadows and faded into the background despite his bright yellow armor. His spirit was unbreakable and his friendly humor was invaluable during the first dark days of the war. Sources: TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

For a Cybertronian vehicle; he does look amazing. I always wonder why Cybertronian needed wheels in their vehicle mode. Anyway; he looks futuristic Volkswagen Beetle. I do love his vehicle mode compared to the rest of War for Cybertron figure. So far; this really suits him as a scout. Fast but not well armored.

Robot Mode

His transformation process is quite complicated. There are time when you need to force the peg to the joints. The one thing you need to be aware are those on the legs. So the instruction is really a big help here even if you are an experienced collectors. Anyway; I love the head sculpt. So close as the video game characters. The only setback was that he looks like he does not have a waist due to the large and busty chest. And if you view it from the rear; he looks like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. He is packed with a blaster and two hidden blade.

Conclusion

For a four years old figure; this figure is quite sturdy but a bit fragile due to a lot of rotating mechanism. Do not force it or you will break it. I prefer the vehicle mode compared to the robot mode. Felt like that Audi R8 from I, Robot movie. Ok, maybe I exaggerated a bit. For fan of the video game; you might want to get this as there is not so many figure from the video game universe.

Random Thoughts - Why do we collect? An honest confession

2014-06-29T01:49:00.002-07:00

Random Thoughts - When I started back in 2009; I would never thought that toy collecting was considered a hobby. I bought my first leader class Starscream for a reason to decorate my room and thought it would look cool on my computer desk. I was always the gaming geek at heart. If I was a collectors back then like I am today; I would have a huge collection of toys (not specifically Transformers) right now. Luckily I was not. I do have a special place in my heart for toys such as Transformers, Macross and recently Gundam since I was a kid. Here is my honest confession.

'Diversify'

Anyway, after a year and since the upcoming movie of Transformers Dark of The Moon; I began to get hooked. I was introduce to a group called 'Brunei Toy Collectors' and it was the only group that really keep me going until now. Later on, my collecting desire went 'diversify'. I collected 1/64 die-cast car such as Hot Wheels, building Gundam and later on Lego. I also bought a few of my childhood and teenagers dream toy such as Macross Valkyrie, Power Ranger Megazord, Kamen Rider, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and a few Star Wars figure.

Honest Mistake

A few years later; I realize that having a lot of carded Hot Wheels was a big mistake. I should have remove it from its box instead. Honestly; having a variation will not make you stop collecting Hot Wheels. And now; I am happy that I have loose Hot Wheels instead and more focused on a larger scale collection - 1/24 scale. It is amazing that above 1/50 scale has the most beautiful details and more like the real thing. One thing led to another. And that is when the Masterpiece returned.

To sell or not to sell? To buy or not?

There is a time; when you want to buy something new and had to sell some of your collection. Later on you realize that you make a huge mistake. To me; that did happen once or twice. I would not mentioned which line I did regret selling. But I did not regret selling all my M. Bay Transformers. So far the only Transformers that I still kept is the CHUG (short abbreviation of Classic, Henkei, Universe and Generation). CHUG is simply G1 2.0.

Buying is another mistake. There is a time when the Transformers tide were really calm (especially when it came to TF: Prime). I was not in the mood of buying those toy line. So I am more focus on other toy line such as Gundam, Hot Wheels and Lego. But there is problem when collecting those toy line. You need time if you want to build Gundam. So does Lego and it is so expensive compare to Transformers and Gundam. I build Lego due to the fact that I want the mini figure for my toy photography. All I can say; it became a 'unconscious impulse buying' habit. Felt terrible when in the end of the day that you suffered the most. In the end; all of those toys will go to a big container. Later I was poisoned to get the TF: Prime RID Vehicon and felt that it was not that bad. Later on, the tide became a big wave. There were some figure that was good but most of them were bad design. Until Takara came up with characters that are not available to Hasbro.

Family and a Child's Dream

To me; being a collectors is somehow connected to our childhood dream. Some of those toy we used to play when we were kids. But my most strongest reason would be; buying the toys that you cannot afford when you were a kid. My family was not very privilege; in other words, not very rich. Having five children and a big responsibility (house, bills and etc); my parents has a lot to save in their pocket rather than buying toys for us. I know and understand that feeling as I am now a father of one. I can feel that after getting married and having a child; I am more reluctant to spend money carelessly. For all the things that I care in my life; my family comes first.

Challenges Ahead?

By now; I am very particular on the selection of my Transformers figure. Although the movie Age of Extinction toy line has been released here; I am being careful not to make the same mistake twice. Although the movie was received with mix reaction; I think I will not go to the cinema anytime soon. The things they said about the movie was really bad but the toy line is selling really well.

With the upcoming festive season and thinking about owning a house one day; I am trying to slow down the best I can. Although there will be so many exciting and new Transformers figure on the horizon; I really need to save up instead. So now, I am better off focusing on the Masterpiece and 30^th Generation line as it is the closest thing you can get to your childhood dream.

Rescue Bots Rescan Optimus Prime

2014-06-24T01:08:00.000-07:00

Rescue Bots - Do you have children that is below the age of 5? Well I do. And as my son grew older; he seems has a keen eye on most of my collections. I don't mind as he don't really understand how to play with Transformers. And he only play my Transformers as a vehicle mode. That is why I usually bought him a toy cars instead. When my nephew bought his deluxe Rescue Bots Optimus to our room; at an instant want to play with it. You know children. They got jealous and everything. And my nephew was not the sharing type. Then the next day; I saw this new waves of Rescue Bots. It looks pretty good and it is safe to play even for my son (the hazard that most of my deluxe class collection came with a missile launcher). So I bought him this.

Vehicle Mode

I have not watched the animation before as it is not airing in our local station. So basically, I have no idea the story line of this series. I do love the changes they made to Optimus Prime. Rather than a semi-cab truck; Optimus vehicle mode is an off-road truck. I can only think of the Dodge Ram Optimus Prime in the Alternator/Binaltech series.

Robot Mode

His transformation is a breeze. Easy to do even your 3 years old can do it. Just push the whole leg in or out and it will automatically do the rest. Even after doing it a few times; it is still sturdy and functional. Differ from the first wave which has jumpy spring load; this one is quite simple. Optimus Prime never looks better. Although there is zero articulation (what do you expect? It is for children); I really love the detail and design.

Conclusion

If you have a kid in mind who loves Transformers; then this is for you. It is safe and it does not contain small parts. It does not have spring loaded mechanism like before and it is a fun toy. So if you want your child to follow your footsteps; then buy this for them. You will not regret it.

Reveal the Shield Grappel

2014-06-23T20:53:00.000-07:00

Reveal the Shield - Bought this figure in 2012 or something. I did not managed to get Inferno before; so this was enough for me I guess. He did appear in the animation as an obsessed yet genius Autobot architect/engineer and were responsible to build the solar tower. Sometimes I do wish Grapple was a Decepticon instead. Now Hasbro has changed his name into Grappel instead of Grapple but I will just mentioned him as Grapple along the review. Anyway, here is my review of him.

Bio

Before the war, the skyline of nearly every city on Cybertron was distinguished by the remarkable silhouettes of at least one building designed and constructed by Grappel. His work embodied the spirit and culture of his world, combining perfect functionality with unmatched elegance. It broke his Spark to see his works destroyed, one by one, as the war ravaged the world. Now he builds without art, constructing buildings meant to last only long enough to shelter the Autobots while they plan their next mission. - Sources from TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

Somehow when I was a kid; I do love firetruck or in this case, a construction truck. And Grapple relived those childhood moment. Somehow it turn out that my son has a thing about firetruck. Although he is a repaint of Inferno; the only differences was the crane itself. Only Grapple and the exclusive Artfire is installed with a crane while Inferno and Hot Spot share the same hose gun.

Robot Mode

His transformation is quite easy. There is a contraption on one of the siren light where you have to slide it in order to put the head in or out. He looks amazing frontal but when you try to take a picture on the side; you will see his chest is quite thin without a proper back. I did make a mistake by not lowering the front guard and I have to re-shoot again. Anyway; his articulation is quite limited especially the shoulder parts. And its crane makes matter worst. The RTS insignia is located on his left shoulder.

Conclusion

Although this figure has a few minor weaknesses; it is still one of the sturdiest and most amazing voyager class figure. Takara United has released another version of Grapple. I never did like it due to its yellow helmet since G1 Grapple has a black helmet. So basically; Hasbro wins this round. If you are looking for Grapple; then this might be for you. For now; I am hunting down Universe Inferno.

Fall of Cybertron Kickback

2014-06-23T08:28:00.000-07:00

Fall of Cybertron - My first insecticon after all these years. Although; there were third party company who produced not-Kickback, I was never interested to get one due to a lot of fact. Personally, third parties are expensive and they came in limited amount. But when Hasbro announced Kickback figure in conjunction with the release of Fall of Cybertron video games; I was amaze on the product picture. In the promo picture; Kickback definitely a must buy in my book. Here is a review of this figure.

Bio

As the leader of his own squad of Decepticons, Kickback is more independent than most of those under the command of Megatron. He uses his freedom to surround himself with friends, who he then blackmails into becoming his servants. - Sources from TFU.info

Insect Mode

I do love the insect mode from Kickback. So much evolve from the G1 mold into this bad ass looking insect. There is so much going on in this mode that even myself got me thinking that Hasbro does make beautiful design if they really work hard. The only drawback on this mode was that you cannot mount the big weapon on top of it. I did saw a few Google image that says so but I really cannot figure out how they did it.

Robot Mode

I got to be honest that Kickback is the most toughest things that I have to transform among the rest of my collection. I had to download the instruction manual (because I was a bit lazy to find the instruction on my collection of doom instruction box). The most toughest part to transform was the head area. It is so confusing.

Fortunately; despite the tough transformation process, Kickback is a wonder to look at. He looks just the way he looks in the video game. Evil and sinister. His wings can be joined to his weapon; creating some sort of effect. And both his wings can be use as a blade.

Conclusion

Kickback is a great addition to my WFC/FOC collection. He got beautiful paint job and very good looking design. A must have especially for fans of the video game. Sharpnel or Skrapnel was release this year. Unfortunately; he was released as a legend class. So the family of insecticons has yet to see some light. Until then; you can always enjoy the third party release.

Fall of Cybertron Sideswipe

2014-06-22T23:08:00.000-07:00

Fall of Cybertron - I always have a knack to buy things first and review it later. This Sideswipe figure has been in my shelf for a year or more. Besides; I really enjoy buying Transformers and play it with rather than reviewing it. As soon as I removed the figure from its box; I never did try to transform it. But I do take a picture of it. Enough about me. Sideswipe did appeared in Fall of Cybertron but I think as a cameo. He is a playable characters in multi-player (I think). Honestly; he is not my first Sideswipe. My first would be the movie version. But I prefer him in red and have a proper feet (and not a wheel as leg). Here is my review of him.

Bio

Sideswipe could have been a legend. Before the war, he was an up-and-comer sought after in half the racing circuits on Cybertron. But his reckless nature and win-at-all-costs attitude washed him out of every league he joined. He's with the Autobots for a chance at redemption, and a chance to bring back the Cybertron he remembers - Sources by TFU.info

Vehicle Mode

Does Sideswipe looks anything like a Lamborghini? He does look a bit like the Lamborghini Veneno. A fat Veneno I guess. Anyway; Sideswipe shared the same mold as Fall of Cybertron Jazz. I do love that Hasbro remold a lot of the parts so that it differs from Jazz. I still dislike the fact that the rear is hollow. His big fraggin gun can be mounted on the right side of the vehicle.

Porsche vs Lamborghini?

Robot Mode

I did mentioned that he share the same mold with Jazz. So his transformation is basically the same. I guess the issues that happened with Jazz were not improved with Sideswipe. His head area still shrunk deep to his chest. But I got to hand it to Hasbro as they did a good job with the head sculpt. He looks more G1 than his previous version. But he does look a bit feminine with his sexy lips. Now I will mentioned about the big fraggin gun. Although it is a nice touch and looks bad ass. But it is so freaking heavy that even this figure cannot handle it at most point. I have to be lucky and adjust it a few times just to get it right.

Conclusion

Sideswipe may be a remold and repaint but he looks differ by his own term. Love the big gun that can be used by other figure. Anyway; I still prefer the Masterpiece Sideswipe. That one is love at first sight. I never wanted to collect masterpiece again but MP Sideswipe really lures me in. Maybe I will review both MP-12 and MP-12G (and I miss out on Red Alert).

Classic Grimlock

2014-06-22T21:39:00.000-07:00

Classic 2.0 - I used to have two of this figure. One without the missile that I bought from a friend. And the other one is inside a double pack together with Jetfire. Anyway; there were no voyager Grimlock at that time and this was the closest thing you can get to a G1 Grimlock. Here is my review of a 6 years old figure.

Bio

Grimlock keeps a collection of the parts he's torn off his Decepticon enemies. His super-thick ultramantium skin in both robot and dinosaur mode is coated in energy-absorbing materials, making him nearly impervious to damage. There are many who might say much the same thing about his mind. He is acutally quite smart, but a programming flaw in his speech cneters gives him only the most basic communications skills. He dislikes the weak, but is dedicated to the protection of those he views as lesser creatures. The only thing he hates more than weakness, in fact, is those who exploit the weak. - Sources TFU.info

T-Rex Mode

Honestly; of all the T-Rex mode, this figure is the best looking (even the Fall of Cybertron Grimlock was not that good). I love how the jaw can be move and how its tail can be moved left and right. And the details on the T-Rex mode is awesome. The only thing that I really dislike was the cannon mounted on his back. Don't feel that was necessary as he is the strongest Autobot around.

Robot Mode

His transformation process was not hard but rather tedious. Especially when rotating the hands part to form the T-Rex leg. Otherwise it would be simple and easy. Anyway; I love his head sculpt and his the whole figure except when came to the part of the legs. Yes; the legs that form into the head of the T-Rex. Grimlock looks like he is tip-toeing or doing a swan lake recital. He is packed with his blaster/cannon and his tail can be use as a whip or sort of.

Conclusion

Overall; Classic Grimlock was not that bad. He may be shorter and has the same level as any deluxe class. But you can always get the Masterpiece version if you love his classic G1 looks. I know I might if I have cash right now. Hasbro has reissued the Masterpiece and I hope I will not be too late to own the masterpiece version. Anyway, his mold has been used as Shattered Glass Grimlock and later as Overkill (he was supposed to be a cassette).
