Yahoo! Philippines voted a seventeen year old siomai vendor with an extraordinary voice as one of the top searched keywords in their 2010 year end review.

Millions of Filipinos use Yahoo! Philippines to find news, stories, and information that stimulate their interest. This search engine server included Jovit Baldivino as their top individuals last 2010 in the field of video hit category.

The year end review analyzed of what Filipino people searched for or read on the famous site Yahoo! Philippines. This review was based on search queries and a number of factors, including the absolute volume and the growth from previous year. Individuals and their search queries were anonymous.

After few months of his win, all his dreams had been achieved and even his supporters who believed his amazing talent supported his first major concert at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City last November 13, 2010. Many people commented that his major concert gave him an ultimate break in the Philippine music industry.

On the other hand, Filipino people continue to use this search engine as their primary link to search the keyword that affects their daily living. The influence of searching pertinent keywords brought Jovit Baldivino as one of the top ten celebrities in the Philippine video clips on the internet community.

Jovit rises after 'PGT' audition

MANILA, Philippines - Jovit Baldivino, a 16-year-old student from Batangas shared how his life changed after he auditioned for the country's biggest talent search "Pilipinas Got Talent."

Viewers and judges of the show -- Kris Aquino, Ai Ai delas Alas, Freddie Garcia – have been blown away by Baldivino’s “unbelievable” voice as he performed his own version of Journey’s “Faithfully” during the audition aired on ABS-CBN last Saturday, February 27.

In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Baldivino, who started singing at the young age of four, shared changes in his life after his well-praised performance.

"Pinagkakaguluhan po nila ako (sa Batangas). Mayroon na pong nagpa-picture at nagpapa-autograph," Baldivino said.

He added: "Parang mas umangat pa po ako at mas lalo pa po nila akong nakilala."

Aside from being popular in his hometown, Baldivino is also a rising star on the internet as his audition video has been uploaded on YouTube. As of posting, it has been viewed more than 900,000 times.

Baldivino also said that he has gained more confidence now that he is receiving praises and support from a lot of people.

"Mas lumakas po ngayon (ang confidence) kaysa po noong dati," he said.

More opportunities

Baldvino, a vocalist of an all-male band "Valedeta," said his exposure in "PGT" helped him and his band mates get more gigs.

"Opo, ang dami po ng offer ngayon, madami na po," he said.

Baldvino, who went to Manila for media interviews was accompanied by his parents. The singer said that he is really happy that his talent has been recognized.

"Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta...talaga pong sobrang happy po at hindi ko po akalain," he said.

Baldivino said his musical influences are the bands Scorpion, Queen, and Journey.

Baldivino, who likes the band "Journey," said it was his dream to perform with the group's lead vocalist -- Pineda.

"Sana po ay gusto ko po siyang maka-duet. Gusto ko po siyang makasama," he said.

Baldivino is currently preparing for PGT's next round of audition. For his next performance, he will sing Queen's hit "Bohemian Rhapsody."

He is also taking voice lessons in Batangas to correct his pronunciation.

“Pilipinas Got Talent” was the number one program on weekends hitting its highest rating last Sunday (Feb 28) with a whopping 43.1 percentage points, a 32.3-percentage point lead over its competitor, which only hit 10.8 percent.

More talent

Meanwhile, the hit reality show “Pilipinas Got More Talent” airs every Mondays to Fridays at 4:30 PM on ABS-CBN.

Marc also served as a judge in ABS-CBN’s morning talent-variety show “Showtime.”

“Pilipinas Got Talent” grand prize winner Jovit Baldivino could hardly believe his eyes upon seeing Journey frontman Arnel Pineda right before him on the set of “The Buzz” last June 20.

Baldivino has long been a fan of Pineda. The former even chose the Journey song, “Faithfully,” as his audition piece for the talent search last February. Many have said the two sound alike when they sing and Baldivino had always dreamt of singing a duet with his idol.

This came true Sunday when they sang “Too Much Love Will Kill You,” a Brian May-original that was Baldivino’s winning piece. The young singer and the international artist traded verses and even sang in unison in some parts of the song.

“Yung opportunity na dumating sa yo, sana mahalin mo,” Pineda advises Baldivino, adding, “Buti ka pa at age 16 [ay] nakuha mo ang fame mo. Ako, it took me 25 years…”

Pineda released mediocre-selling albums in the Philippines in the ‘90s prior to being discovered by the original Journey members. Way before that, and for many years, he performed regularly at several hole-in-the-wall venues outside Manila.

Pineda is not at all bothered that Baldivino is being touted as the “next Arnel Pineda.” He, in fact, supports the young Batangueno all the way.

“Syempre, kababayan natin yan," Pineda was quoted as saying by abs-cbnNEWS.com during an outreach program in Quezon City.

On June 21, Baldivino set the ball rolling for yet another dream of his – that of making a movie with KC Concepcion as his leading lady. He did so by appearing as guest on her morning show, “Simply KC.”

Ngayon pa lang ay nararamdaman na natin ang simoy ng pasko dahil sa bagong commercial ni Jovit. Ito ay magiging daan na ang pasko natin ngayon ay mas lalong sasaya dahil sa EDEN CHEESE commercial ni Bundoy na kung saan kasama rin ang iba pang Pilipinas Got Talent finalists. Sila ay nagsama-sama para ihatid ang tunay na diwa ng pasko sa taong ito. Ipinakita din nila ang tunay na himig ng pasko sa pamamagitan ng paghawak -hawak ng kamay at masayang pagdiriwang sa biyayang pinaghahandaan.

Dahil sa commercial nila, lalo pa nilang pinaalab at ginising ang ating pananabik sa kaarawan ng ating mahal na Hesus.

Talaga namang walang kasing saya kapag ang ating idolo ang bida. Bawat tagumpay na nakakamit ni Bundoy ay tagumpay rin ng mga taong nagmamahal sa kanya at sa kanyang talentong bigay ng Maykapal. Patuloy na naniniwala ang mga tagahanga ni Jovit na makakamit niya ang lahat ng kanyang pangarap, at hindi rin siya magsasawang maghatid ng saya at inspirasyon sa karamihan.

Talent searches have been the proverbial stepping-stone for ordinary people who want to make it big in show business. Overseas, shows like American Idol, X-Factor, and Brit Got Talent are among the most successful television programs instrumental to the successes of some of the world’s brightest young music artists.

To win a talent search, apart from one’s exceptional talent (and more often than not, looks is a plus) he or she should have a story, a touching story that is. It’s the only way to tag the road to stardom of someone as “from rug to riches.” Don’t we all love this kind of drama?

Recently, we were introduced to Jovit Baldivino, a 16-year-old who ABS-CBN calls the boy with a golden voice. I don’t know what barometer for vocal quality they used to call his as golden because if ever it existed then most singers in the land would have “tanso” voices.

Now, striking while the iron is hot, two weeks after winning the first edition of Pilipinas Got Talent, the diminutive rocker launched an album called Faithfully. The record has 12 tracks, but technically it only has five since “I’ll Be the One,” one of the two original materials in the album, has two alternate versions and a minus one. Same thing goes with carrier single “Too Much Love Will Kill You,” “Always,” and” Paano.”

Before the end of July, the debut album topped the OPM nationwide sales of music store Odyssey Records. But that’s not enough to turn Faithfully to a gold record. Something is wrong with the album, we know it. It was hastily done. The album is like a short film or a short play stretched to become a full production. Star Records capitalized on Jovit’s newfound fame that they forgot the words originality and creativity.

Jovit, who is now a product endorser, is a great find but then again his talent is confined to a limited groups of people who call themselves hit makers and rulers of the Philippine music industry. Jovit will not be remembered because of Faithfully, his Cinderella-man story will be forgotten once another talent rises with an even more dramatic struggle. They could have taken the chance to groom Jovit as a new star with a brilliant album that record buyers could keep, not the one that they will just consider as trash in their playlist.

On revivals and greatest hits

In March last year, I had an exclusive interview with British R&B star Craig David a day before his concert at the Araneta Coliseum. I asked the “Insomnia” singer why he came up with a greatest hits album since he is relatively young and has only released five studio albums. He told me: “I included two new songs in the compilation album which serve as preview, ‘a catalyst,’ to my next album.”

“Right now young kids can easily create their own playlist by downloading from the Internet and burn it onto a CD. It’s similar to creating a greatest hits CD. I want to do it before it’s too late,” Craig added.

My inquisitive mouth barged in, “The common perceptions on artists who come up with greatest hits album is either they no longer have any quality material to offer or they are big enough to collect all their number one or chart-topping singles.”

The international star just smiled and asked me to hand him the CD so he could sign it and write a simple note then said: “I’m preparing for something bigger.”

The point of telling this encounter is to raise a question whether local artists have the same reason why they can’t get enough of reviving songs. Take for example the new album Essence of Kyla, a collection of greatest (?) hits from the 29 year-old singer

The two-disc album features singles that made Kyla earned the R&B princess moniker. The highlights of the record are “Hanggang Ngayon” (that was very popular in 2001), the Keith Martin original “Because of You,” the ballad “I Feel for You,” and the feel good song “Beautiful Days.”

Kyla has eight albums under her belt. Contrary to the publicity that she has eight platinum seller albums, she only has two namely Not Your Ordinary Girl (2004) and Let the Love Begin Original Soundtrack (2005).

In the early part of Kyla’s career, she managed to record original singles but as her star started to wane, she opted to join the bandwagon of singers who settle for covers hoping that it will refuel their careers.

Is Kyla running out of good material? Hope not. If everything turns well, the greatest hits collection will serve as a prelude to Kyla’s new album that will be released later this year. –By Nickie Wang

MANILA, Philippines - After being named as the first Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) grand winner, Jovit Baldivino starts his journey as Star Records and Sony Music co-produced the 16-year-old’s first album titled Faithfully.

Jovit, who earned his living by selling dimsums, has never seen this great opportunity coming. He bested 11 PGT finalists proving that he was able to make it through the hearts of Filipinos.

Jovit’s hair-raising performances in PGT was fueled by his rare and exceptional sound and a simple wish — to finish studies and help his parents. Jovit left viewers and the judges tongue-tied when he rendered his audition piece, Faithfully by The Journey. Pilipinas Got Talent champion Jovit Baldivino launched his first album under Star Records with the carrier single “Faithfully.” (His rendition of the Journey original captured the attention of the audience and the judges when he first appeared during the Pilipinas Got Talent auditions.) The album includes five tracks plus minus one versions of each song.

There is also an original Tagalog song which was put in at the request of ABS-CBN management. "Favorite ko po talaga lahat yan, hindi ko po talaga kakantahin kung hindi ko po gusto. Sobrang saya ko po kasi nga po magkaka-album na ako tapos solo album pa po. Nabibigla po ako at nasho-shock dahil po sa mga nangyayari at hindi ko po inaasahan na mangyayari sa akin, ibang-iba po yung dati [kong buhay] kaysa ngayon." Jovit also signed a contract with the Kapamilya network during the album launch.

"Nagpapasalamat po ako sa Panginoon dahil sa pinahiram niya pong talento sa akin. Nagpapasalamat din po ako sa mga kababayan ko sa Batangas, lalong lalo na po sa Rosario tsaka kababayan ko din po sa Cebu, kasi yung papa ko po taga Cebu at sa lahat po ng bumubuo ng Jovit-natics fans club. Ine-expect ko po na mamahalin po ang mga kanta ko ng mga Pilipino. Ine-expect ko rin po na hindi po nila makakalimutan yung mga kanta ko."

During the interview, he told the press how Pilipinas Got Talent was the fourth talent contest that he had joined in his life. He failed in the first singing contest he joined and he just got second place in the second and third ones. But he said that he never stopped pursuing his dream. "Nung natatalo po ako dati, medyo malungkot pero hindi po nawawalan ng pag-asa, bata pa naman ako nun."

With his winnings, he has already bought a second hand Starex for his family. "Nakabili na po ako ng sasakyan para… siyempre po malayo po yung sa amin sa Batangas pa, kapag pinatawag po yung pamilya ko, madali pong makakapunta. Hindi na po sila babiyahe o magaarkila ng sasakyan. Bumili rin po ako ng cellphone ko, Blackberry."
Jovit happily revealed that he will be an ASAP regular soon. He is also part of a series with Sarah Geronimo which is still in the works. "Nagta-taping na po kami. Nakakabigla po kasi dati hindi naman po ako umiiyak."

Jovit Baldivino will be one of the performers of President Aquino’s inaugural party, Tagumpay ng Bayan Concert. The concert will start at 4:00 in the afternoon June 30, 2010 at the Quezon City Circle.

Ang suwerte-suwerte talaga ni Pilipinas Got Talent grand champion na si Jovit Baldivino dahil endorser na siya agad ng Belo na siyang official skin care ng lahat ng reality shows ng ABS-CBN kaya huwag na tayong magtaka kung isang araw ay mapanood na lang natin si Jovit na kutis artista na.

Last June 27, 2010, the humble Youtube sensation and the first PGT winner, Jovit’s dream to do a duet with his international star, Arnel Pineda came true.

The most awaited duet has come true in Philippine Television when Jovit Baldivino, PGT grand winner and his idol Arnel Pineda sang the song Faithfully.

This is the moment that supporters of Jovit had been waiting for. It is a vision that many people concluded the event as a reality for their idol, Jovit Baldivino. This is also a chance to merge the new superb voices of all time in the Philippine music industry.

Jovit at PBB Teen Clash "Big Night" Opening Number

Everyone had been waiting for Jovit's performance at the grand night of PBB Teen Clash 2010 Edition last June 25, 2010.

After a Transformers- inspired reel of the Big Brother House converting into a robot, the Big Night officially opened with a futuristic-themed song and dance production from Jovit Baldivino, Pilipinas Got Talent Grand Winner and one of the show's hosts, Toni Gonzaga, accompanied with other PGT finalists.

As expected, audience at the Ynarez Center, Antipolo City were amazed at Jovit's powerful voice and his flexibility to show his other talents. We would not be tired in following him in his future shows.

MANILA, Philippines – Rising star Jovit Baldivino, the 1st grand winner of “Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT),” said he's hurt by insinuations that he lied about his background in order to win the sympathy of the public as well as the nod of the 3 PGT judges.

In an interview on “The Buzz” Sunday, Baldivino, the 16-year-old shy siomai vendor from Batangas, whose voice is being compared to Arnel Pineda of “Journey,” was asked to share the most painful intrigue thrown at him so far.

Baldivino replied: “‘Yong sinabi po nila na hindi po ako mahirap.”
During his audition, the PGT winner shared that he would sell siomai to finance his education and help his family. He further captured the hearts of judges Ai Ai delas Alas, Kris Aquino and Freddie Garcia, as well as hundreds of PGT viewers, after giving a heartfelt rendition of Journey’s “Faithfully.”

It was the start of Baldivino’s steady rise to stardom. During PGT’s finale, he received almost half of the total overnight text and online votes, besting 11 other finalists.
Baldivino also shot down allegation that his fame has gotten into his head. “Hindi po totoo ‘yon. Hindi ko po gagawin ‘yon.”

Kris defends Jovit

Baldivino has found an ally in PGT judge and “The Buzz” host Aquino, who defended the young singer.

She said: “Sino ba naman ang magpre-pretend na mahirap ka? At ‘yong sa kanya daw to gain sympathy, pinalabas niya [na mahirap siya] para mas maawa sa story niya.”
During the audition, Aquino explained that she and her co-judges were not given any background information about the contestants so as to prevent biases.

“The very first time na ininterview ka, doon lang binulong na magtanong kayo tungkol sa siomai. At nabanggit lang na there was a time na nagkasakit ang father mo…. Sa audition, when there were at least 2,000 of you na pinagdaanan namin, hindi ba ang galing naman masyado ng foresight mo na nakaimbento ka ng ganoong kwento?”
She also said she was a witness to how Baldivino was loved even by other finalists of the show.

“When he won, everybody embraced him among all the others na kasama mo. At siya, genuine din ang pagyakap sa kanila. That means ang mga nakasama mo sa ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ na ka-kompetensya mo, natuwa para sa’yo. So, kung malaki ang ulo mo at mayabang ka, walang yayapos sa’yo,” Aquino said.

Meanwhile, the much-awaited first meeting between Baldivino and his idol, Pineda, happened Sunday on “The Buzz.”

Pineda made a surprise appearance on “The Buzz” to personally greet Baldivino.
Upon the prodding of the studio audience, the 2 singers sang a portion of “Too Much Love Will Kill You” together.

“Nagpapasalamat ako. Kung hindi po talaga sa’yo, wala din po ako dito ngayon,” Baldivino told Pineda.

When asked to give an advice to Baldivino, Pineda reminded the young singer to take good care of his health.
