Wind, rain, thunder and an occasional bolt of lightening. The dog is huddled at my feet.(He's a bit of a sissy) At least it has cooled off. The other day it was 112 and I thought I was at the Bay of L.A. We (me and Elvis) escaped for a couple of days and camped out at the beach, San Mateo campground ($35 a night What a rip! - I snuck in and snuck out) a hop, skip, and a jump to San Onofre. It was fun. I slid on a few small waves, the cool water brought me back to life and met up with some of my old accomplices. It was good to see them. I miss living on the coast.
Chubasco, a storm. A tumult. It's exactly what's happening in America today. The country falling apart on the shoulders of corrupt politicians of all stripes. Debt, Debt and more Debt - much like myself - on the verge of collapse. I don't trust or have faith in the Left, Right or Middle. We've become, much as I hate to say it. a second class country thanks to the way things are run and the wishy-washy politically correctness endemic in the society today. We are weak, morally and ethically and afraid to stand up and speak out for what is right. It's not a lack of religion, it's a lack of backbone. What happened to America and Americans first? What happened to our desire to be the Leader, to be the Best, to set the Example? Instead we let our enemies and detractors set the terms and dictate the agenda. The present ruling Junta seems bent on the dismantling of this country. What are we going to do? Republicans or Democats, No. Teabaggers, Perhaps. New, Independant Thinkers, who put the good of the country and people first, yes.
We need a rev (Whoaaa, now that's a blast of wind through the window, knocking stuff all over, I'll get back to you......)
Had to go out and batten down the hatches, it's quit a little blow we got going! Where was I.....Oh yeah...
We need a revolution in this country. Not with guns or blood, but with Ideas and Gumption. We need to get back to the values that built this country. Hard work and thrift. Thick skin. A Pioneering mentality where all was possible and all were tolerated in order to make their way and a future.
I'm Pancho and I approved this message.
What do you think?
So I took manners in my own hands, Busted out my "Friends" list and started cold calling.
(Insert comment about a photo posted to their wall) I started a blog called...... and I'd like you to check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks". If your reading this you probably figured this part out. But for those who didn't get hit, I then added a Photo. Anyway you slice it, it's self promotion, and if you know me, that's not my style; but I need to get the word out about this blog for a little feedback. That's all. I hope you take he time to read my posts and let me know what you think. Make my blog a stop on your daily web surf. I would appreciate it.
Latest update to my whoredom, hooked up with some new web stuff you might enjoy, look for changes in the blog soon.
My answer to that is, "Well...yeah.". Surfing, Guns, Booze and Women, Fishing, Food, along with beer, are good and necessary things. For the record, I used to drink a pretty fair amount. I like to drink. I like a nice little buzz. A cold beer on a hot day or a cocktail (and maybe even a good cigar) at the end of the day before a nice meal (I like food too) are the little bonuses that make up for all the crap life can hand you. With that said, I've pretty much given up "Sport Drinking". I will drink a beer now and then, maybe a glass of wine with dinner and I can't remember the last shot I took. I've cut way, way back.
Any way, I got lazy, as far as exercise goes, kept eating and drinking and got fat. I mean I packed it on. One of the hazards of living inland I suppose, but no excuse for letting yourself go. So I go to see my Doctor weighing in at about 330-340 lbs., My blood pressure is high (I had been on meds for my BP for some time) and Doc says he'd like to run a few tests and he sends me to the lab to have them draw some blood. He calls a day and a half later and tells me to drag my fat ass into his office ASAP.
So I go in and he's looking at me like, "I told you, you fat fuck" and tells me my blood sugar is something like 220 after fasting 12 hours when it should be around 90, more like syrup than blood, my A1c level (What?) is 13.5 when it's suppose to be 6.0, My Bad Cholesterol is High, My Good Cholesterol is Low and I am now officially a Diabetic. Good news. He sits me down looks me in the eye and says, "If you don't get your shit together and take care of yourself you are going to die, you need to change your lifestyle."
Now I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but you don't have to tell me twice.
I decided I wanted to live. That was back in late August of '08 and eighty pounds ago and I feel pretty damn good. Eat right and get plenty of exercise. My A1c is back to normal and I'm off the diabetes meds. I have more to lose, but I'll get there. I've changed my lifestyle.
I hadn't done any serious surfing since it put on the weight. I had a beautiful new 10'6" BOSS, a pretty big board, Bob O beefed it up for me. I waxed the thing up and paddled out, now remember this board is 3.75 inches thick, and it looked like I was sitting on a short board. I was bummed and depressed.
Well, as you know, I love the water and dig surfing, so I used getting back in the water for my 50th birthday as an incentive to get back into some kind of shape. On June 25th, 2010, two days before my birthday, I paddled out at Sano and caught a few waves. I thought that was pretty cool. What was I writing about? Oh yeah, Beer Stories.
As you know, I lost my job working security for the local Tribe of Dirt Worshipers in their gambling establishment. So I went back to my old boss, who has a small security service. He's a good man and he's given me my old job back, so I make enough to pay rent and put beans on the table. I'm thankful for the work. He threw me some extra hours working last night and the next three nights guarding an Oktoberfest grounds run by the town at a local park. Well, they started setting up yesterday and they kick off the festivities late this afternoon. I went in last night and they had some tents, a stage, tables and chairs set up. The porta potties were all lined up and they had temp power boxes spread out. Nothing really much to guard. But get this, they had a Beer Truck there, the kind with Taps sticking out the side and the kegs inside were all hooked up. Yeah, no shit. And the guys who were working all day were sitting around relaxing slurping down some ice cold ones. They offered me one, but I declined because of my health thing and I was working. So they left and I locked up and made my rounds. I pulled a beach chair out of my truck, turned on the radio and kicked back.
I started feeling a little peckish, so I busted out some nuts and munched a few, Then I got thirsty. I looked at the Beer Truck, Budweiser - No thanks, and reached into my ice chest for a diet Pepsi. Then I thought a minute and put the Pepsi back. I got up and walked over to the truck. Think about it; a truck full of beer ready to drink and a sleeve of plastic cups sitting on a table. Humm. There were four taps on the side: Bud, Bud Light, Michelob. No dark beer? Wait a minute, Becks Dark. I drank two. See-ya!

The Mexican Bicentennial, September 16, 1810 to September 16, 2010 is without a doubt a proud moment for the Mexican people and a reason for a massive national fiesta that I'm sure will be celebrated all year long. Congratulations Mexico!
After 200 years of Independence, and in the light of the Republics present problems what do the Mexican people have to look forward to
As things are now, not much. A sick economy. Growing poverty and economic polarization, Institutional Corruption A weak and distrusted Government. A growing diaspora and a shrinking rural population.Crime and Violence. The growing economic, political and military power of the Narcos. Fear.

There's probably more that I can't think of right now. Suffice to say, Mexico faces huge challenges on all levels, not insurmountable, but left unchecked could lead to societal collapse. Pretty Bleak. A ruling Oligarchy
at odds with Feudal Warring Drug Lords. A desperate population willing to give up hearth and home to provide for those left behind. What Next?

Mexican problems require Mexican solutions. The people need to have hope that things will get better
and the willingness to do what it takes to make the necessary changes..They need someone to rally behind. Mexican history is full of strong charismatic leaders, willing to take the bull by the horns. Mexico needs a new Hero. A Hero with a plan.
Not a Sub-Commander Marcos (What ever happened to him?), but a Zapata or a Villa or a Morelos.
Shit runs down hill. Never have so few shit so much on so many.
Carlos Slim and his four buddies who control everything Mexican need to step up and do the right thing for their country and their countrymen.
The Narco culture which is glorified by Corridos Pasado needs to be exposed for what it is and a new ethic, a new aspiration, a new story to replace the lies with truth, Corridos Verdaderos.

While the Mexican people have to do the hard work, The U.S. needs to offer support Mexican aspirations without direct intervention. The U.S. needs to crack down on the demand for drugs at home and cut off the supply of money for the Cartels illicit activities. We need to support the Mexican people by helping our neighbors make their home a viable, vibrant, peaceful and profitable place to live. The Mexican Government has forgotten that the power is in the hands of the people.

The Environmentalist/Author Edward Abbey offered an answer to Mexico's problems in the last line of his essay: "Immigration and Liberal Taboos",

"If we truly wish to help them [the Mexican People] we must stop meddling in their domestic troubles and permit them to carry out the social, political, and moral revolution which is both necessary and inevitable.Or if we must meddle, as we have always done, let us meddle in a constructive way. Stop every compesino at our southern border, give him a hand gun, a good rifle, and a case of ammunition an send him home.He will know what to do with our gifts and go wishes. The people know who their enemies are"

That pretty much sums it up. Happy Mexican Independence Day! Good Night.

Take today for instance. My Creditors are hounding me for money to pay on my Credit Cards, Personal Loans and Bills in general. I had been juggling my debt with aplomb, considering what my crappy job was paying me, I thought I was doing alright. Debt is like a Giant Outside Set while surfing on a foggy day; by the time you start scratching your guts out to get outside it's too late.

Well I lost my job, about six weeks ago, but fuck, I'm scratching and I ain't gunna make it. Definite leash test. Not life threatening but you're gunna get worked. Anyway, you can forget about using a credit card for stuff like airline tickets, reservation or buying stuff on line.(I understand, I know what you're thinking, please no lectures)

So, kind readers, this on line journal will deal with everything that makes up life. Surfing is an important part of it, but just one part. I will probably write about stuff I like, and don't, and maybe post some short stories I've written depending on how you react to what I have to say. By the way, I encourage all of you to reply and put in your two cents worth, for better or for worse, to keep this thing moving forward!

          Thanks and until next time,

                                                    PANCHO
