Everybody loves Suriya, he makes both critics and the masses happy. The 37-year-old is currently busy with KV Anand's 'Maattrraan' ('Duplicate' in Telugu). In a quick interview, the actor tells us about his new movie and more.

What do we need to know about 'Maattrraan', besides the fact that you play conjoined twins?

There are a few scenes which are yet to be shot and there is no editing and post production in the movie. It will all be computer graphics. We got six twins to play the childhood roles.

Each pair was different, sometimes they used to cry together, sometimes one would be sober and the other be hyper. This is a new concept and if it has been tried in Hollywood movies, I do not wish to see them. My role would then become influenced, I do not want that.

How different has the experience been?
It has taken us almost a year to complete the film. We did 2,500 (computer graphic) shots for the movie and a lot of test shoots were done in office. We purposely chose the difficult ones. We want people to say "how did they manage to do that?".
Are you on the lookout for offbeat roles?

When I select a movie, I ensure that it has both the commercial aspect and the topic is a little offbeat. Even if you take 'Apoorva Sagotharargal', where one sees Kamal Hassan in a double role, it had entertainment value and something challenging for the actor. I am lucky to get such scripts.

After 'Rakta Charitra', you haven't been seen in any Hindi film? Will you be doing one soon?
I never had the drive to do Hindi films. I have always been identified and loved as an actor in the Tamil industry, I speak this language, know the culture. I can manage Hindi, but when I emote, I do not get the connection. There is no reason for me to leave scripts in Tamil and go there, unless there is a movie that cannot be done here. But I will make sure it is released in Tamil as well. Ram Gopal Varma is a personal favourite. I have been good friends with a lot of directors there but I have a mind block. I would love to do a 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', 'Hum Tum' or a 'Fanna'.

How have you evolved in these 15 years?
Certain movies have received rave reviews, which were unexpected. But I cannot do roles that I did five years ago. Every film has to get better and I have a new generation watching my movies. Each film has to be different and bigger.

The audio of Suriya’s upcoming film Maatran, in which he’s playing conjoined twins, is all set to be launched in a grand way. The event is going to be held on August 9 in Singapore and buzz in Kollywood is that it’s going to be the biggest ever events in recent times. Already KV Anand, who has directed the film, has invited all the leading bigwigs in the industry and now Suriya has invited a slew of top actresses including Asin, Trisha, Nayanthara, Anushka Tamannah, Divya Spandana, Sameera Reddy and Shruthi Haasan who have acted with him for this audio launch. Suriya is going to be accompanied by his wife Jyothika in this event. Suriya reportedly shot for over 2500 shots for the film which is probably a new record. Kajal Aggarwal is playing the lead role and two Russian actresses named Irina Maleeva and Julia Bliss have played important roles. Harris Jayaraj has composed the music for this action entertainer. Bellamkonda Suresh has bought the dubbing rights in Telugu and the Telugu version is likely to be named as Duplicate. Most part of the film was shot in Chennai, Hyderabad, Russia and East European countries. The film is likely to hit the screens sometime in September.

"Singam 2 to get bigger and better" : Says Surya

The second installment of Indian Tamil action-masala film Singam has been abuzz with the news that part 2 of the flick will be much bigger and better.

Singam was a 2010 Indian Tamil film directed by Hari, starring Surya and Anushka Shetty in the lead. The latest is that director Hari is giving final touches to the script and has even decided to shoot a few action sequences in South Africa. The highlight of the flick will be the action sequences and the climax for which Singam 2 team is likely to head to South Africa. The director of the film has even decided to rope in a South African actor who will don the grey shades in his forthcoming film.

Singam 2 stars Surya, Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Santhanam, Mukesh Rishi and Radha Ravi.

Singham was also made in Hindi, with Ajay Devgn in the lead. The film did well at the Box Office.

If Prakash Raj is the only villain in 'Singam', Suriya has to fight it out with two baddies in 'Singam 2', which too is being directed by Hari.

The director has roped in Bollywood actor Mukesh Rishi as one of the villains and the other baddie will be from South Africa. "Both will pose tough challenges to Suriya," say sources.

Shooting for the movie got a kickstart in Chennai on Sunday. Interestingly, not just the number of villains, but that of the heroines too is two in this film.

Anushka Shetty and Hansika Motwani will share the screen space with Suriya in 'Singam 2', which has Vivek, Santhanam and Manorama in crucial roles. Music is by Devi Sri Prasad.

Studio Green seems to take hold of most of the upcoming films starring promising actors. The production house already has the Karthi starrers Alex Pandian and Venkat Prabhu’s Biriyani and Suriya starrer Singam 2...

Now they have come forward to produce Suraj’s next with Jiiva in the lead..

This film will start after Jiiva completes his current projects Neethane En Ponvasantham, Mugamoodi and the untitled Ravi K Chandran project. Suraj is also busy with his Alex Pandian, which has been scheduled to hit the screens on October 12.

After Suriya’s highly-anticipated look from Maatraan was recently revealed, speculations are now on about Singham 2, the sequel to his earlier hit.

While he played the single character of Dorai Singham in the first part, the buzz is that Suriya will be seen in a dual role with Anushka and Hansika in the sequel.

The Hindi version of the film with the same title was a huge success in Bollywood. Interestingly, Singham 2 will be the 12th film of director Hari who also completes 12 years in K-town.

In an exclusive chat with DC, he clears the rumours surrounding the movie. “Suriya’s character will have two dimensions so he will don two different looks. There’s also a surprise element to it but that is all I can divulge at this point of time,” Hari says with a grin.

It will be the first time that all the actors from the original, including Manorama, will be seen in a sequel. “It’s a continuation of the previous script. Singham 2 begins where it was left in the original. All the artistes are needed by us except Prakash Raj who dies in the first part.

Luckily, ace actress Manorama has recovered after her health sabbatical and is joining us. New additions include Hansika, Santhanam and Tollywood baddie Mukesh Rishi,” he informs.

Hari also reveals that they are looking out for a Hollywood actor to play a powerful antagonist. “The story, which begins in Thoothukudi, will end up in South Africa in a flabbergasting action-packed climax. We will be shooting extensively in SA as part of the film unfolds there,” he adds.

While Anushka plays the daughter of an industrialist, essayed by Nasser, Hansika will act as a college student. “It’s a balanced script so both the hot ladies will share equal screen space with Suriya,” quips the director

Director Hari revealed about Singam 2 recently. The director said that he has retained the same set of actors who had acted in Singam except Prakash Raj. Also, Hansika will be a new addition to the star cast apart from Bollywood actor Mukesh and a South African actor. While Anushka plays an industrialist daughter, Hansika will be seen as a college student. Manorama and Vivek, who were in the prequel, have also been retained.

Hari also disclosed that Suriya will be seen in two different get-ups in this film which is set in Thoothukudi. The director is planning to film the climax portions in some great location in South Africa, we hear.

Suriya's latest movie Maatraan has been grabbing a lot of eye balls for its trailer. The fact that Suriya is playing conjoined twins and the elaborate VFX and post production work required, have all been well documented. Another extra special feature is the use of performance capture technology in Maatraan. Though the movie's release has been pushed to September, there is sweet news for fans of the actor.

Starring Surya’s “Maatran” has been postponed to September. It was officially announced that the movie will be released on August 15. But due to delay in the last schedule of completion of “Maatran”, it is postponed.

In the trailer release function, director of the movie K V Anand revealed that “s...o many peoples are asking me that is the story of Priyamani’s “Sarala” and Maatran are one and the same?. The first look of Suriya’s upcoming film Maatran was unveiled a couple of days ago and the teaser has already made a splash on social networking sites. For the first time in his career, Suriya will be ...seen as having a conjoined twin in this action entertainer. Kajal is the lead actress in the film. KV Anand has directed the film and Bellamkonda Suresh is dubbing the Telugu as Duplicate. Talking about the film, KV Anand said, “ The film is not inspired from any other film. I had read about the Siamese twins Eng & Chua and was motivated. It will b a commercial entertainer where Suriya plays double role as conjoined twins Akilan (serious guy) & Vimalan (jolly fellow).” Kalapathi S Agoram has produced the film under the AGS Entertainments banner and Harris Jayaraj has composed the music.
