Hi All,
Sorry for...

Hi All,
Sorry for the noob question, but this is a first time situation for me.
I have a client that hosts with me - lets call her myclient.com. She had another company make a small e-store website for her.
They asked me if I could create a subdomain - e-store.myclient.com
However, they want to host those e-store pages on another server (not under my reseller account).
Other than creating the subdomain, what do I need to do and is this even possible?

Many Thanks,
Sky

New Kernel Exploit (all kernels <=2.6.31)

A race condition...

A race condition was discovered in this Linux kernel last week which can be exploited by a malicious user to gain escalated privileges. By exploiting this race condition, an attacker may be able to cause a NULL pointer dereference, and thus may be able to gain root access. All kernels prior to 2.6.31 may be affected.

For more information:
CVE - CVE-2009-3547 (under review)

https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2009-1548.html
https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2009-1541.html
https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2009-1550.html

We have found that a temporary mitigation can prevent current exploits from gaining the ability to escalate privileges:
--------------
echo "66536" > /proc/sys/vm/mmap_min_addr
--------------

This does not prevent the race condition, but it prevents the privilege escalation that results from it.

If you are a shared server or reseller client, we have already applied this mitigation to your server. This should temporarily protect these servers until they are rebooted into the most recent kernel which is patched to fix this vulnerability. All of our shared/reseller servers will be rebooted to permanently fix this issue on November 10, 2009 at 8:00pm EST.

If you are dedicated server client. The kernel update/reboot will be applied on Friday November 13th, 2009 at 8:00pm EST for CentOS servers. In order for us to apply this update, your server needs to have our maintenance SSH key installed. If you are running a different Linux distribution please check with your operating system's distributors for a patch. All Linux distributions may be vulnerable to this exploit.

If you have any questions, feel free to open a ticket with the abuse and security department.

Okay, it happened...

Okay, it happened once and I thought okay its probably just a glitch of some sort but now its happened twice I'm starting to wonder what's going on.

I'm busy working on the back end of my website (joomla administration section) and checking progress on all changes made on the live site as I go. After a few hours of working solidly on the site, all of a sudden I'm logged out and when I re-log back in all the changes have reverted back to the original state it was in when I first moved to Surpass Hosting. Not only that, but the server links are pointing to my old host! If I check using the IP address, the 'new' version that I've been working on appears, but using the domain name the old version appears?!? The add-on domain attached to it doesn't appear to be affected, only the main domain which is even weirder. I've also checked on other browsers to see if its just Firefox doing something wonky, but nope, all the other browsers show the blurb that was from the old version of the site. And as I said, its happened twice, both times while I'm working on the site itself.

Any clue as to what the problem might be? The last time this happened I had to wait for about 4-5 hours before it seemed to sort itself out.

I got a reseller...

I got a reseller plan hosting ~20-25 domains. Three days ago I moved to a new home and switched to a new ISP. At first I noticed there was some delay opening few of those sites and then, yesterday, all of a sudden I wasn't able to access any of those - no web, no mail, no nothing. They are simply not resolving. Local traceroute and ping are not getting anything.

Today I found out that only my master domain is resolving and working. I can also access all other domains using IP/~domainname. Got ISP support on the phone, they told me there are no bans or restrictions associated with my IP, so the problem is not on their side. After that I fired a ticket at Surpass and surprise - there seems to be nothing wrong there either. I have absolutely no idea how is it possible - all domains are using the same nameservers and are hosted within the same reseller account.

And here I am, flushing DNS' like crazy, restarting computers and routers, refreshing browser tabs and stuff, and still unable to load anything besides the master domain, which also disappeared for few hours today, but came back later on.

The good thing about this is all domains are accessible from elsewhere, so the problem should be either in my ISP or Surpass. But which one is it and what's the cause?
