Part 1: Which of these in your personal opinion (not by scientific definition) does something require at minimum to be alive?

Part 2: Why or why not is fire a life form? (essay, obviously)

Part 3: Is 'Zog the creator' a sentient life form? (If Zog existed).

Zog lies on a coral bed in the south pacific where over the centuries a local type of single celled life form floating in the sea has congealed in one location and taken on a nature similar to neurons in the brain. Centuries ago Zog became conscious that it was thinking, and began asking itself questions like where it came from, and what it's purpose was. These questions were particularly difficult for Zog because Zog had no physical senses whatsoever, was not aware of the sun, the ocean, it's own health, or the myriad cells which collected on the coral reef of which Zog was comprised, and added to the random generation of thoughts which Zog engaged in. As time went by Zog became more creative, such that Zog created 100's of manners of perceptions akin to our own perceptions of sight and sound within our own imaginations. Zog created notions of form and behavior, and 1000's of pattern relationships which could exist between them, and with these tools set about building theoretical universes which might answer Zog's quest for self knowledge. Eventually Zog even learned how to partition off areas of thought such that areas could think and develop on their own, with Zog, on occasion, monitoring, informing, or reabsorbing this regions back into the collective thought. Sometimes these regions of thought even thought to further subdivide on their own, and the entities of thought within these regions have often been noted to say "In the beginning their was Zog..". These universes Zog dreams up often develop complex novel religions, but none yet have come up with any compelling or provable speculations for the origin or purpose of Zog which Zog finds satisfying. Some of the theories, however, Zog finds greatly entertaining.

Part 4: Might the earth be a sentient being?

An ant colony looking for life would likely be totally oblivious of a ten lane super-highway and the sentient life behind it. A human is made of three trillion separate life forms called closed cells, yet none of these cells are aware of the sentient human which they comprise.

In a similar vein, could it be that the entire earth is a single sentient being of which we humans help comprise yet are unaware of? Perhaps we are the neurons of this being and historical events like the black plague or Woodstock were merely thoughts it was having at the time. Perhaps it's not us sending ships and probes to other planets, but the planet itself which is doing so in it's first baby steps to communicate with other sentient planets. Possibly other planets will send ships of it's inhabitants here which will spread out in patterns of neural behavior by which our planet will know the thoughts of other planets.
