Survivor 12 Exile Island Up Soon

In case you missed it, the contestants for Survivor Exile Island have been announced and the official CBS web site is up and running. Survivor Panama Exile Island starts Thursday February 2, 2006 on CBS (official web site).

For my Survivor 12 Exile Island blog I'm working on a custom template (there aren't really any Blogger templates left that I haven't used yet and that I like). I hope to have it up and going by this Sunday or Monday night (Jan. 22 or 23).

Episode 14: the Final

The Final
official title: Thunder Storms and Sacrifice

Summary: Rafe wins the first Immunity and then Lydia is voted off. Danni wins the second Immunity challenge (an endurance competition) and selects Stephenie to be in the final two with her. The Jury awards Danni the one million dollars.

The recap to open the show summarized each of the previous 14 Survivors who were voted off. In confessional Lydia starts us off by saying 'Why am I still here? It must be destiny.' [I was thinking something similar except I thought that she was just lucky to be there.] They all toast being in the final four and in private Rafe says that he's happy to be in the final four with these people.

Tree mail arrives and Lydia takes it to mean a celebration. Stepehenie asks Do you see the word celebrate anywhere in there? 'No' answers Lydia and they all laugh. It turns out the celebration is a sacrifice . . .

Chicken Sacrifice
A local Maya family shows up and sacrifices a live chicken by beheading it and throwing it in a fire. Stephenie prods Lydia into asking them in Spanish (she's from Pureto Rico) if they can eat the chicken. Of course the answer is 'No' because it is a sacrifice. [No chicken for you. Next!]

First Immunity Challenge
Competition: a giant maze and puzzle challenge.

Jeff Probst calls this challenge the largest maze ever constructed for Survivor. It is a huge maze with ladders and pontoons to cross over water hazards. The Survivors have to go through the maze and collect puzzle pieces (7 sets of 2?). Each set has to be taken to the top of the mock pyramid before the next set can be collected. The puzzle makes a Maya image.

This was basically a race between Rafe and Stephenie. Danni was a little bit behind and Lydia was so far behind that she collected all of her pieces just as Rafe won Immunity.

The Forbidden Chicken Beckons
Lydia and Stephenie just cannot forget about that chicken so they go back and get it. Rafe doesn't feel right about eating a sacrificed chicken so passes on it, the only one to do so. And then a big thunder storm started, the largest since they have been out there according to Danni. They all wonder if they have angered the Maya god(s) by eating the chicken.

Scheming is Free
Stephenie and Rafe discuss who to vote off. They are leaning to voting off Danni since either of them is bound to win the next immunity up against Lydia. However if Lydia were to somehow win immunity and be in the final two then she is almost certain to win the million dollars. In private Rafe is torn by his promise to Danni to take her to the final three and Danni is uneasy about that promise herself.

So who will it be, Danni or Lydia . . .

Xhakum at First Tribal Council
Jury watches: Bobby Jon, Jaime, Gary, Judd, Cindy
(paraphrased, not word for word)

After some talk of the chicken and the storm, they finally get around to talking about the game.

Jeff Probst: Lydia suppose it's you tonight to be voted off . . .
Lydia: It could be but I'm not a physical threat to anyone. I have not won a single individual challenge.
Jeff Probst: Danni Lydia makes a good point . . .
Danni: Yes that's true but if she's in the final two she would most likely win the money.
Jeff Probst: Stephenie what do you base your vote on then?
Stephenie: (not sure) Lydia isn't a physical threat but she is a mental threat [please, not really] and Danni has never backstabbed anyone.

Lydia is voted off. (3-1 vote)

Jeff Probst's Final Thought
The three of you have one more Immunity Challenge and one more Tribal Council. Hopefully the Maya gods have forgiven you.

Lydia's Final Words
This was the hardest experience of my life . . . it was a wonderful experience . . . I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Aftermath
The three remaining Survivors return to a soaking wet camp. everything is wet, the corn is moldy and has maggots in it. To make matters worse the howler monkeys are especially noisy. [That will teach them to upset the Maya gods.]

Final Immunity Challenge
Competition: Balance and Endurance.

Each Survivor stands on a small platform that's on a pivot so it swivels. For the first hour they will have two ropes, one for each hand, to help balance themselves. Then they will have to let go of one rope. Thirty minutes after that the remaining rope must be let go. A Survivor is out when a foot touches the ground or a hand a post (which are holding up the ropes).

They all make it through releasing both of the ropes and are leaning on a pole with their feet on their platform. Rafe is the first out as he losses his concentration for an instant as he uses a hand to adjust himself slightly. Then later Stephenie starts to slowly slide down her pole until she touches the ground - and then starts to cry. So Danni wins the final Immunity!

Rafe immediately runs over to Danni and tells her that she should take whoever she feels is right to the final two regardless of promises she may have made earlier (to take Rafe to the final two). [ . . . and thus Rafe seals his fate . . . ]

Scheming is Free Redux
Danni says that she was set on taking Rafe until he said to consider Stephenie. Rafe says that Danni wouldn't be here without him, but he feels Stephenie deserves a chance at making the final two. Stephenie says to Danni 'You don't owe me anything.'

So who will it be, Danni says that it will be a game-time decision . . .

Jeff Probst: Stephenie any regrets about voting Lydia off last Tribal Council?
Stephenie: No, anything can happen.

Danni: I was so blown away!
Jeff Probst: Stephenie it was very emotional for you. . . .
Stephenie: I was in pain and felt like a failure.
Jeff Probst: Rafe what about releasing Danni from her promise to you?
Rafe: It's not strategy I want her to make the decision she feels good about.
Jeff Probst: Danni how will you make your decision?
Danni: well, Rafe is a good friend but he will probably win if I choose him. I would have a better chance with Stephenie.
Rafe: I'm not so sure I'm a sure thing to win, I screwed the same people as Stephenie.

Rafe is voted off.

Rafe's Final Words
I think I played a smart, honest, moral game . . . betrayed, I don't understand Danni . . . rooting for Stephenie . . .

Final Day at Camp
Stephenie and Danni compliment each other for reaching the final two. They visit the dock / swimming pool for the last time and break down the camp. In private Danni tells us that she will be nice at the Jury and answer all their questions [that's a good idea].

The Jury
You know the routine: opening statements, questions, closing remarks.

Danni: I'm honored to be here especially since going into the merge I had the numbers against me. [surprised how strong she was]

Stephenie: Thank you, this has been an amazing experience. I'm also honored and can't wait to talk with you.

Bobby Jon: Stephenie I'm on the Jury because of you. How proud are you?
Stephenie: Very proud, other than stabbing two people in the back.
Bobby Jon: Danni are you proud of your play?
Danni: Yes, I'm grateful to be here.

Gary: I'm basing my vote on your answer. Same question for the two of you: Why shouldn't I vote for you?
Stephenie: I broke a promise [to Gary I think].
Danni: I made a few conflicting alliances which is selfish.

Jaime: What an adventure! Danni if you had the numbers who would you like in the top five?
Danni: I'm not sure, probably Bobby Jon, Gary, Brandon . . .
Jaime: Stephenie how should the Jury feel about you changing your word?
Stephenie: I just went along with the group.

Lydia: [she seemed kind of angry towards both of them] Stephenie I was loyal to you since Day 6, what happened?
Stephenie: Thank you. I'm a competitive person, it was just the game.
Lydia: Danni you turned on me . . .
Danni: It was just part of the game.

Cindy: Same question for the two of you: If you could remove one member from the Jury who would it be?
Stephenie: I don't know . . . Bobby Jon because he was first on the Jury.
Danni: Rafe because he's definitely voting for Stephenie.

Rafe: You two are like sister to me. Danni why did you do the opposite of what you said you were going to do? [not taking Rafe to the final two]
Danni: It was a hard decision. You were both deserving of being in the final two.
Rafe: Stephenie what was your best move strategically that you didn't tell me about?
Stephenie: There wasn't one that I didn't tell you about.

Judd was the most entertaining. He started by asking Danni if she ever was ice skating before. She was kind of confused and said that she had been but doesn't do it very well. Judd then said that she just skated through Survivor Guatemala. He asked her if she lied in the game and she, of course, said 'yes' [how can you not lie?]. Judd then gave her a little speech about going to confessional when she gets home. Danni said that she asks for forgiveness everyday. [Judd amazingly still believes that he didn't lie in the game!]

Judd now turns to Stephenie and asks her if she's still starving. [It's a similar bait-and-switch line of questioning.] Judd goes on to say that Stephenie was always hungry yet she ate more than just about any of them out there. Then he talks about his wife and says that Stephenie broke a promise to her and lied, lied to his wife. How could she! Stephenie says that she never made that promise to her [that Judd and Stephenie would be in the final two].

Final Remarks
Stephenie: Thank you. This game is the hardest and it brings out the worst qualities in people, but we're not bad people. My strategy was to align myself with bright people and to stay calm at all times. I didn't let others make decisions for me.

Danni: After the merge I had six people targeting me. I saw Rafe and Stephenie as in charge and we became friends.

Time to Vote
Judd is shown voting for Danni and Rafe for Stephenie.

Jeff Probst then takes the votes and gets on a helicopter and flies to Los Angeles for the live reunion show where he reveals the votes: One vote for Stephenie and Four for Danni - that's enough.

Danni wins $1,000,000!

Reunion
There was then a nice reunion, everyone made nice with each other. Judd said that he lost 45 pounds [don't worry, I'm sure he can put the weight back on]. Jeff said that in two seasons Stephenie was in 46 challenges and won ten of them [but only one of them was individual immunity]. Margaret is going back to Guatemala to do relief work. At some point Jeff says 'Judd lets get this straight, you lied too.'

Survivor Panama, Exile Island
Jeff announced that the next Survivor will be in Panama. Sixteen Survivors will be divided into two tribes in a way never before seen on Survivor. Also a Survivor will be banished to an island on a regular basis. [I heard producers were tired of contestants taking it easy on challenges, so in some competitions the loser will be banished.]

That's about it. As usual, items from Survivor Guatemala are up for auction on eBay to raise money for the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

Survivor Live: Danni and Stephenie

Survivor Live: Danni and Stephenie

Stephenie Comments
She didn't think that she had a real chance to get the most votes from the Jury. Their minds were probably already made up before the final Tribal Council. Playing previously probably had some sway with the voters. She feels that she may of had a chance if she was up against Judd or Jaime. She didn't try to keep Judd around longer because she felt he was trying to get rid of her. Stephenie feels playing on Palau taught her to remain calm, she was much more paranoid then.

Danni Comments
She was the first to say Judd has ADD not Margaret. Danni sent Lydia to talk with Judd to catch him in a lie so they could vote him off. [Was it really so hard to catch Judd in a lie?] Cindy blew it by keeping the car, Danni was working to get rid of her and that really helped. Danni would have given up the car (Stephenie wasn't sure what she would have done at that point). Danni isn't so sure she even had promised to take Rafe to the final three. [So Rafe would have likely been voted off anyway.] She knew from watching Survivor Palau that Bobby Jon was loyal to a fault and used that against him. Brandon is like a little brother and Danni had an alliance with him to be in the final two together. Not shown: Danni worked to get Blake voted off. Off topic: Danni thinks Priest Holmes will retire from the NFL.

What's Next for Stephenie
She has signed with an agent and will most likely be a spokesperson for a swim and sportswear company.

What's Next for Danni
She really likes Kansas City and wants to stay there. Before Survivor she had some offers to do TV anchor work and would like to pursue that some more. However she would like to keep doing radio because it's so much fun.

They also showed some video clips of the best Tribal Council exits in the history of Survivor (they didn't say how these were selected). It's in Part 3 of the Dec. 13 Survivor Live archive.

Red Carpet Interviews
The Survivor video archives has some interviews from the reunion show. They are several minutes each and those interviewed are: Danni, Stephenie, Rafe, Lydia, Jeff Probst, Brian, Judd, Gary and Bobby Jon.

I watched a few of them and they're worth the time if you like any of the Survivors. They are interviewed by Dalton and Jenna and they talk about the game (not the usual red carpet nonsense 'who are you wearing?').

On Being Voted Off
Rafe still maintains he was serious and sincere about letting Danni out of her promise to take him to the final two. He doesn't think she would have picked him even if he tried to hold her to her promise. Lydia said she thinks Rafe blew it by letting Danni off the hook so easily.

The Others
Rafe: Jaime and Judd are really great guys. Cindy would have stayed around longer if she had given the others cars (Lydia agrees). Would have voted to give the money to Lydia over just about everyone except for Stephenie. Thinks he would have beaten Danni if he were in the final two with her (Lydia not sure she would have voted for him). Stephenie thought she could beat Lydia at the Jury.

Lydia: a lot of people lied so much that they forgot they were lying. Judd and Jeff were similar and butted heads often. Lydia admits to being star struck with Bobby Jon and Stephenie.

This is it, the finale of Survivor Guatemala. I predict that Rafe will win the million dollars (for more about that see yesterday's post: Final Four and Winner Prediction ).

In other Survivor news, Jeff Probst has signed on for two more years of hosting duties. Survivor 12 is currently shooting in an undisclosed location and will air in the spring. I plan on blogging Survivor 12 as well ( survivor12.blogspot.com ).

Commentary, Predictions and Possible Spoilers
A CBS preview seems to show Rafe at the next Tribal Council wearing the Immunity necklace. I think Lydia will be voted off first, no one wants to sit in front of the jury with her. I'm predicting that Rafe wins but I want Danni to win. Stephenie may be in the final two because who would give her the money? She's on her second season of Survivor and she hasn't been that likable this time.

Survivor Fantasy League Picks
For what it is worth, here are my picks for Survivor Fantasy League.

Rafe, Climbs Ruins.
Danni, Climbs Ruins.
Lydia, Climbs Ruins.
Stephenie, Climbs Ruins.

What's up with the Fantasy League? Usually at the finale you select the finish order for Bonus Points but this time nothing, it's the normal bonus point selection? By the way, CBS has done a lousy job with the Fantasy League this season.

Final Four and Winner Prediction

Final Four

It seems CBS flubbed up a bit and showed a promo that shows the next Tribal Council and it appears that Rafe is wearing the Immunity necklace. So I think Lydia will be the next one voted off.

Now that leaves Rafe, Danni and Stephenie in the final three. I don't think Stephenie wins (she hasn't been real sympathetic this time and it is her second chance at a million dollars - two strikes and she's out) so that leaves Rafe or Danni the winner.

The possibilities:

if Rafe wins Immunity
He chooses Stephenie to be in the final two with and wins a million dollars. He's smart and realizes that she is his best choice and he's only promised Danni the final three.

if Danni wins Immunity
Her best choice is Stephenie, however she still may choose Rafe out of her dislike for Stephenie. After she's broken up the Axis of Evil she may feel that she can convince the Jury that she deserves it over Rafe.

if Stephenie wins Immunity
Her best choice would be Danni, however she may select Rafe out of friendship for him or dislike of Danni.

My Prediction

Rafe wins the million dollars!

Survivor Live: Cindy

On Being Voted Off
Cindy said again and again that just because you give someone a car doesn't mean you will win the million dollars, especially with this group who have turned on their own already. Sole Survivor Tina Weston called in and said that she would have given the others a car in exchange for a free pass at a single Tribal Council [now that's how you win a million dollars].

The Others
This group is real cutthroat. They did not like the jungle but Cindy reveled in it.

Rafe is a puppet master and using Stephenie as his messenger. Cindy did not want to leave Rafe and Stephenie together when she won Rewards that's why she picked one or the other to share with.

Cindy doesn't dislike Gary it's just that he started up with her by saying she did not belong in the game and lumping her in with Lydia. Cindy sort of got even by telling the others when Gary was plotting with Lydia. Also Cindy wasn't 'star struck' with Bobby Jon and Stephenie as Gary claimed they all were.

What's Next for Cindy
Going back to the zoo is out, they fired her for going on Survivor. [Assh*les, think of all the free publicity they're missing out on.] She would like to teach and educate people about nature and the environment. Cindy would like to stay in Florida if at all possible.

Notes:
1. Only 1 episode of Survivor Guatemala left: the final is this Sunday (Dec. 11), it will be a 2 hour final with 1 hour reunion.
2. Mon. Dec. 12 Survivor Live with 3rd and 4th place finishers.

News Flash: Probst Signs Contract

Survivor host Jeff Probst has signed a contract that will extend his hosting duties another 2 years. Prior to this Survivor 12 was his last under contract.

official title: Big Win, Big Decision. Big Mistake?

Reminder: the final is this Sunday (Dec. 11).

Summary: Cindy wins a car in the Reward challenge but is voted off at Tribal Council after just missing out on Immunity to Stephenie.

After the re-cap of last week's episode: they all talk about Judd's 'scumbags' and 'I hope you all get bit by a crocodile' comments. In confessional Danni says it looks like there's a break in the alliance (Axis of Evil). Cindy is worried because she sees a pattern: Judd wasn't told that Jaime would be voted off and then Judd himself was voted off. Now Cindy wasn't told that Judd was being voted off, so is she next? Tree mail brings a key, could it be a car key? Yes, it's car-time at Reward Challenge.

Reward Challenge
Competition: Second Chance
Reward: Car and night away from camp.

This challenge repeats parts of previous challenges in three stages.

First Stage, the balance beam - first three move on. The Survivors must make their way across a balance beam and untie things along the way. Cindy, Stephenie and Danni move on.

Second Stage, break tile with throwing club - first two move on. Cindy and Stephenie move on.

Final Stage, puzzle of Maya calendar and ride down hill in cart. Cindy wins Reward!

Jeff Probst now reminds Cindy of the Survivor Car Curse (no one who has won the car has gone on to finish in first). He gives her the option of forgoing the car herself and giving each of the others a car. As she is thinking about it four more cars drive up to the area. After careful consideration, Cindy decides to keep the car for herself. Jeff now says that she can chose one other person to share the night away from camp at a archeological camp with a bar-b-cue. Cindy chooses Stephenie to go with her.

At the Maya archeological camp Stephenie offers a toast to her and Cindy making the final four. They talk strategy and Cindy says she sees Danni as the biggest threat and Stephenie kind of agrees, but she says she will have to check with Rafe regarding voting Danni off. [And here I thought Rafe was Stephenie's pawn, maybe she's his puppet?]

Meanwhile back at camp . . .
Rafe in private says that if he had won Reward then he would of had to give up the car so the others could get one. He also says if she had given him a car then there is no way he would vote for her at tribal Council. Danni also says that she would not have taken the car for herself.

They're back . . . (Cindy and Stephenie)
In front of the others Cindy goes on and on about her new car: I've never had a new car before . . . it handles so nice . . . I hardly felt any bumps in the road . . . it's so nice, like a luxury car. The others are disinterested. In confessional Rafe says that Cindy was grating on everyone. In private Cindy says they all were excited to hear about her new car and they aren't bitter or going to hold it against her [oh, really?].

Stephenie and Rafe are disagreeing over Cindy's choice to keep the car. She says it's the first time they haven't seen eye-to-eye. Lydia chimes in and says that Cindy made the right decision.

Immunity Challenge
Competition: Ropes, Chains and Poles - oh, my!

Each Survivor is in handcuffs and leg irons and tied to a pole. They are also tied to a long rope which winds its way around several other poles. The Survivors must use a big key ring full of ten or so keys to unlock their chains and untangle their ropes at each succeeding pole. The if they have freed up enough rope they can run to their flag and release it to win.

Danni: Rafe said that he won't vote for me.
Rafe: Danni said that she wants to be in the final two with me. [That would be an interesting decision for the jury to make.]
Rafe and Stephenie talk about voting Cindy off and she says that she would feel bad since they already turned on Jaime and Judd. Stephenie goes to Cindy and tells her that Rafe sees her as a threat. Cindy says let's vote Rafe off and make it an all girl final four. [Just a little while ago wasn't Cindy saying Danni was the real threat?]

So it looks like Cindy or Rafe at Tribal Council . . .

Jeff Probst: Rafe what's the mood like in camp?
Rafe: I feel threatened. There are only guys on the jury and I'm the last guy left in camp.
Jeff Probst: So Danni do you give in to paranoia or stick to your plan?
Danni: I'm just glad to still be here.
Jeff Probst: Cindy I reminded you of the Car Curse and you still chose the car?
Cindy: Yes, there are no guarantees. I could have given them a car and still have been voted off.
Jeff Probst: Cindy who is the most competitive out here?
Cindy: Rafe, he's won challenges already and he's likable. He's the complete package.

Time to Vote:
Cindy is shown voting for Rafe and he her, however he says 'I love you though.' we don't see who Lydia voted for but she says she's voting with the tribe. Jeff shows the council one vote for Rafe and three for Cindy - that's enough.

Cindy is voted off.

Jeff Probst's Final Thought
You made the final four, there are 3 days left, 3 tribal councils and 2 immunity challenges to decide 1 winner.

Cindy's final words:
The thing that I'll miss the most is the sounds of the jungle, nature's orchestra . . . I didn't win the million dollars but the memories are priceless . . . [now that's a classy way to leave Survivor].

Alliances
Is Rafe serious about being in the final two with Danni? His and Danni's best chance for winning is with Stephenie. Lydia would win up against any of them. The three of them should get Lydia off next. She has not crossed anyone on the jury and is a sympathetic figure - single mother of modest means.

Heroes and Villains
Go Danni, go Danni! My preference to win is: Danni or Rafe. Stephenie should not have gotten this far and Lydia has just been carried along.

Commentary, Predictions and Possible Spoilers
It looks like Cindy wins the Reward challenge and has a choice: either she can have a car or chose to give up the car and let everyone else win a car! What will she do? Remember no one who has won a car has gone on to win the million dollars. It seems Danni wins Immunity (again just beating out Stephenie) and Cindy will be voted off at Tribal Council - remember she was out of the loop last week when Judd was voted off last week.

On Being Voted Off
Judd said he got blind-sided by the scum-bags and admits to being a sore loser. That walk from Tribal Council is the worst walk in your life. When Jeff announced that he was voted off Judd just went black and had to be reminded to get his torch. Judd said his bark is worse then his bite.

The Others
Judd never had plans to get rid of Stephenie, he thought they were pretty good friends. Lydia cooked for everyone. Jaime was the brains and Judd was the physical strength. He just didn't get along with Margaret, they had differing personalities - she was always bossing him around. Jeff Probst was just as miserable as the Survivors and Judd felt like Jeff was picking on him at times.

Drinking and Lying
Judd said that he was still drunk when he told the others that the Immunity Idol was on the ground and he doesn't remember seeing Gary following him out into the jungle to look for it [stupid alcohol]. He also mentioned being slightly drunk at a Tribal Council.

Strategy
Judd said his strategy going in was to be needed and wait for the right moment to make an alliance. He said that he was not in an alliance in the first original Nakum tribe and the mix-up of tribes was the best thing that happened to him in the game.

What's Next for Judd
He's still a doorman in Manhattan.

Notes:
1. Only 2 episodes of Survivor Guatemala left: this Thursday and Sunday Dec. 11 will be the 2 hour final with 1 hour reunion.

Episode 12: There Goes the Judd

There Goes the Judd
official title: Price for Immunity

Summary: the Reward challenge is an auction and family members show up. Danni wins an aid to help her win Immunity. Judd gets voted off at Tribal Council and acts like a big jerk as he leaves.

After the recap of last week's episode: Danni says she knows that she's on the chopping block. About last week's Tribal Council Danni says these people are unbelievable and that she's not going to go without a fight.

Reward Challenge
Competition: Survivor Auction.
Reward: Food and some mystery items.

Each Survivor is given $500 for the suction. They can share but only the people contributing money for an auction item can share the item.

The Auction Items
1. Beef Jerky - Danni wins for $20.
2. Milk and 3 chocolate chip cookies - Cindy wins for $40.
3. Mosquito net - Lydia wins for $140. (Lydia has mosquito bites all over her back).
4. Mystery Item, is a covered a tray - Danni and Rafe win it for $180 and share a 'Philadelphia' cheese-steak. I doubt it had any resemblance to a real Philadelphia cheese-steak, but I bet they still appreciated it. For the best cheese-steak go to Dalessandros .
5. Sealed envelop to help with Immunity Challenge - Danni wins for $200. The envelop is to remain sealed until the Immunity Challenge.

Family time! The last item for auction is a family member staying overnight. Stephenie gets Lydia's money and Judd gets Cindy's money. Judd comes up with the most money ($880) and wins! Kristina, his wife, gets to visit.

Jeff Probst now says that Judd can select two other family members to stay the night. Additionally those Survivors who don't have visitors will spend the night at the old camp. Judd selects Mindy, Cindy's twin sister, and Michael, Stephenie's boyfriend. So Lydia will not get to spend any time with her brother who she hasn't seen in two years. Rafe's mother will also go home. (Sorry I missed who was there for Danni.)

Family Camp
Kristen is impressed with their camp life, how they're able to make fire, boil water, etc. Mindy says this is great we (her and Cindy) used to play wilderness people as kids. [What, kind of like Land of the Lost?] Stephenie says this is great and that she owes Judd 'big time' since he also got her a big meal earlier. Judd says he didn't win any food at the auction but he's full just seeing his wife, she's like eating 25 White Castle hamburgers [how romantic].

Exile Camp
Rafe (pictured) says it's sort of like a homecoming seeing the old camp. The three of them basically agree that they cannot trust Judd. Rafe says that he feels closer to Danni than Judd. He also says that he thinks Judd feels threatened by him.

Reunited
Lydia asks Judd if he thinks he has a good shot at the million dollars and he says 'I don't know.' They talk about Jaime's surprise ouster and Judd says "I know who the mastermind was" (Stephenie). In confessional Danni says that the longer she can stick around the more trouble she can cause.

Immunity Challenge
Competition: Chessboard-like tile flipping game.

There is a big hexagon with tiles on it. Each Survivor starts on a side and in turn flips over a tile and stands on it. In following turns a tile adjacent to, but not diagonal to, the tile the Survivor can be turned over and stepped on. If there are no tiles that can be flipped then that Survivor is eliminated. As a wild card, in the center is a Lazy Susan with several tiles on it and it reached the Survivor can spin around to another tile. Also Danni's envelope (won at auction) allows here to switch with another Survivor any time she wants but it can only be used once.

Cindy (pictured) heads straight for the Lazy Susan, spins herself to another section and promptly boxes herself into a corner resulting in her being the first one eliminated. Danni then uses her option to switch with someone and chooses to change with Stephenie. It then comes down to Danni and Stephenie and Danni edges her out by about one tile to win Immunity.

Here's the order in which they were eliminated:
1. Cindy
2. Lydia
3. Rafe (Danni boxed him out).
4. Judd (incorrectly thought he could move diagonally).
5. Stephenie (just loses out by a tile or two).

Scheming is Free
Rafe and Danni (pictured) work on Stephenie to get her to vote for Judd. Stephenie says she can't trust him [what about owing him 'big time'?]. Judd helplessly looks on the three of them. Lydia tells everyone 'if you need my vote I'm here for you.' Judd says to her 'I need you to not vote for me.' In confessional Judd tells us 'if you think you're safe in this game you're crazy.' He goes on to say that they (Stephenie, Cindy, Rafe and himself) had an agreement if Danni got Immunity then Lydia would be voted off.

So who will it be at Tribal Council - Judd or Lydia?

Jeff Probst: Stephenie what was it like seeing your boyfriend?
Stephenie: It was really special.
Jeff Probst: Danni how big was your winning Immunity?
Danni: I just couldn't let it pass at auction. I've only cried twice since I've been here, when I won spaghetti and when I won Immunity.
Jeff Probst: Cindy how do you vote now?
Cindy: It's based on the person, their alliance, my alliance and how I'll explain my vote to them at the Jury.
Jeff Probst: Rafe this is a big vote after tonight there's an odd number of people (five), what do you base your vote on?
Rafe: Trust is a big deal at this point.
Jeff Probst: Stephenie what do you base your vote on?
Stephenie: Making the right choice is hard, it's full of emotion. It's hard because we're all like family.
Jeff Probst: Judd, but someone in this family has to go . . . ?
Judd: Aww Jeff, they're all saying nice things but we all want someone to go. It's the only way we can win the million dollars.

Time to Vote:
Danni is shown voting for Judd and he is shown voting for Lydia. Jeff reveals the votes to the Survivors: two votes for Lydia and four votes for Judd. Judd is voted off!

Judd leaves showing no class. He says 'I hope you all get bit by a crocodile' and mutters 'scumbags' several times.

Jeff Probst's Final Thought
One thing is clear, things are no longer what they used to be. The game has taken a turn in a big way.

Judd's final words:
I'm really pissed off . . . I was lied to . . . it sucks being lied to . . . I never lied . . . they voted me off because I was the biggest target . . . I can't wait to the jury . . .

Alliances
Well, well, well . . . the Axis of Evil is no more. Stephenie better watch herself, she may be next - unless someone is planning on being in the final two with her.

Heroes and Villains
Go Danni, go Danni! Before this edition of Survivor I thought that I'd like Judd, he seemed like he was an Everyman. It turns out that I don't really like him at all, he's a big jerk.

Commentary, Predictions and Possible Spoilers
The web is quiet as I write this, almost too quiet. This is a pivotal episode. Will Stephenie, Judd, Rafe and Cindy stick together and vote off Danni and Lydia to reach the final four or will Danni and Lydia be able to swing Rafe and Cindy to their side?

Well, that's how I see things. If I find out any more info. I'll include it in my update tomorrow afternoon.

Episode 11: Gary Sacked

Summary: Cindy wins Reward and shares it with Rafe. Rafe wins Immunity for the second time in a row. At Tribal Council there is more discussion about lying. One minute Judd says that he most emphatically has not lied yet and then a few minutes later says "OK, I lied." Gary is voted off and has his torch extinguished.

After the recap of last week's episode: at night following last week's Tribal Council Judd is feeling insecure and uncomfortable that the others didn't tell him that Jaime was going to be voted off. Stephenie and Rafe try to reassure him saying that they didn't want him to freak out about the decision to vote Jaime off last week [or plot with him to vote someone else off]. Lydia tells us that she's not sure that she did the right thing in voting for Jaime. Rafe says Judd has changed [no duh! what did he think would happen?]. The next morning Judd caught Gary pumping Lydia for information and told the others in his pod (Stephenie, Rafe and Cindy).

Reward Challenge
Competition: Maya Culture Quiz
Reward: a day trip to a waterfall with food and a massage

Each Survivor has three pots filled with corn with their name on them. Each correct answer earns a Survivor the chance to break a pot of one of the other Survivors. The last one with an unbroken pot wins reward.

The Questions
1. Maya heiroglyfics are called? Stella (sp?). Only Stephenie gets it wrong.
2. T/F In Maya courtball the losers lose their heads and they are used as balls in future games. True, Stephenie is the only one wrong again.
3. Maya gods from coffee, cocoa, corn or ramone (sp?) nuts? Corn.
4. Which country doesn't border Guatemala? Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador. Answer: Costa Rica.
5. T/F [something about temples, I'll try to watch again online and update this post]
6. T/F There are 30 volcanoes in Guatemala. True. Only Cindy and Rafe left at this point. Cindy got it correct.
7. T/F Crocodiles are most active at dawn. False, they are most active at dusk.

Cindy wins Reward and chooses Rafe to go to the waterfall with her.

The Order They Were Knocked Out
1. Stephenie, Lydia broke 2, Danni 1.
2. Gary, Cindy final blow.

The Waterfall
The water in the waterfall is hot and the pool is crystal clear and cool. Cindy says it is a very cool reward and nice to share with Rafe. Rafe says it was the best day ever. They have some nice food: shrimp and beef kabobs. Rafe says Lydia is easily swayed and that he's in with Cindy for better or for worse.

Meanwhile back at camp . . .
Stephenie is all defensive about going out first. Lydia says she targeted Stephenie because she was afraid she would eat again and Lydia hasn't eaten yet. Stephenie then gives a rundown of who has eaten and says that she hasn't eaten anymore than most of the others [although Lydia hasn't eaten at all]. In private Gary tells us he doesn't think Stephenie has lost any weight so far [they're on about Day 28]. Judd delivers the title of the episode - "Everything is personal." When Rafe and Cindy return to camp he tries to downplay the food and Cindy says it was relaxing. The segment ends with Lydia in confessional saying that everyone puts Stephenie up on a pedestal but she's a threat and no one is doing anything about it. She also says she's an outcast like Cindy so she should have been chosen for Reward instead of Rafe.

Stephenie, Rafe, Cindy and Judd are talking and reassuring each other that they are the final four. [Maybe Cindy is not an outcast like Lydia thinks?]

In confessional Danni tells us that there are obviously three outcasts now [presumedly she means her, Gary and Lydia].

Immunity Challenge
Competition: Puzzle Race with Maya folklore story background.

Jeff Probst tells the Survivors a Maya folklore story about the Sun and the Moon. The Survivors are then to go around to seven stations where they have to assemble a puzzle that reveals a question about the story. Two boxes have an answer printed on them (one wrong and one correct). If the correct box is picked it will have a flag in it which the Survivor must take to his/her flag pole and then move on to another station. (A wrong-box answer has a stick in it and it must be taken to a fire before moving on to another station.) The first Survivor to collect all seven of his/her flags wins Immunity.

Lydia is first with a flag. Stephenie and Judd miss at their first attempt. Then Rafe and Gary take the lead with two flags. At four flags Gary and Cindy lead. Gary and Rafe are neck and neck through flags five and six. It comes down to a race back to the flag poles between Rafe and Gary.

Rafe just beats Gary out to win Immunity (again).

Scheming is Free
Stephenie says that it's nice to be powerful this time because she was essentially powerless last time. Lydia feels betrayed. Gary thinks Cindy doesn't like him [probably true]. Gary talks with Rafe and Rafe says that he doesn't trust Stephenie 100% and doesn't trust Judd [does this mean he's planning on being in the final two with Cindy?]. Judd says that Gary is running around like a lunatic trying to stay.

Going into Tribal Council it looks like it is finally Gary's turn, but you never know . . .

Jeff Probst: Lydia there was some hostility about the Reward challenge?
Lydia: I was just afraid Stephenie would win again and I wouldn't eat . . it was nothing personal . . . Stephenie is really running things.
Jeff Probst: Stephenie are you the power broker and in charge?
Stephenie: I definitely do not run the show.
Jeff Probst: Gary what's your take?
Gary: I like Stephenie, I think some of the others are star-struck [this elicits some laughs, but I think Gary was serious.]
Jeff Probst: Judd how have you played?
Judd: I definitely have not lied yet but I think I may have to to win. So I'm in trouble because I'm a bad liar.

Judd goes on to say how Gary has lied: about how Gary said he wanted only the strong to win yet talked and planned with Lydia and Cindy. Gary defends himself by saying it was part of the game, he had no real alliance with them. Gary then goes on to tell about Judd's lie about the Immunity Idol [Judd said it was on the ground when it was really up in a tree].

Judd admits that he lied, "I told you that I was a bad liar."

Time to Vote:
As Judd votes for Gary he says "get the hell out of here."
Jeff Probst show the Survivors one vote for Cindy but Gary gets four votes so his torch is extinguished.

Jeff Probst's Final Thought
One thing is clear, no one is going down without a fight . . . there should be big battles ahead.

Gary's final words:
I had a great time . . . it was fun competing . . . my real name is Hogeboom . . . I lied [about his name] so I would be treated as myself [and not as a former NFL quarterback] . . .

Alliances
Is this the final four: Stephenie, Judd, Cindy and Rafe? It looks that way. Danni looks like the next to go unless she wins Immunity.

Heroes and Villains
Here's how I rank the remaining Survivors (from most to least favorite): Danni, Cindy, Rafe, Judd, Stephenie, and Lydia. Lydia has just cruised through and seems to be clueless about the game, she doesn't deserve to win. Stephenie shouldn't have gotten this far but as Jaime said maybe someone is looking to be in the final two with her.

Tribal Council is full of surprises when one Survivor takes advantage of the group setting to call out a tribemate. How will this influence the vote?

The web seems to think that the most likely to be voted off are Lydia and Judd. I would also add Cindy since Jaime said the four of them were in an alliance. For my Fantasy team I'm going with Stephenie, Rafe, Gary and Danni (all to Climb Ruins). By the way, the Survivor Slackers have fallen to third place in the Private Tribes Leaderboard.

On Being Paranoid
Jaime says he wasn't as paranoid as he was portrayed. He was that way mostly with Rafe because he didn't think he could trust him.

The Others
Jaime said that he was in a final four alliance with Judd, Lydia and Cindy. Furthermore they were going to vote off Stephenie next. [Maybe Stephenie is better at this game than I thought.] Jaime never trusted Stephenie and he was tired of seeing her face around camp. Rafe is just her lap dog. Jaime said he and Judd were close friends but he wouldn't have minded being in the final two with Stephenie, after-all what jury would give some one who's playing Survivor for the second time the million dollars? Lydia and Jaime were close, he called her his warning light but she didn't go off. Jaime thinks Gary had the Immunity Idol for a few days before the Tribal Council in which he used it. Jaime appears to have made up with Bobby Jon; he said 'I like him, he's a good ol' boy.'

What's Next for Jaime
He's not sure. He's been modeling in Miami but he's not sure if he wants to continue doing it. He would like to expand away from water ski instruction to snow board instruction. He's not really interested in pursuing an acting career.

Episode 10: Jaime's Turn

Jaime's Turn
or Paranoia Will Destroy Ya
official title: Eating and Sleeping with the Enemy

Summary: Half of the Survivors win a luxury night away from camp while the rest have to deal with Jaime's paranoia some more. Rafe wins Immunity and it looks like it will be either Gary or Jaime who will be voted off at Tribal Council. To Judd's surprise, Jaime is voted off.

After the recap of last week's episode, at night after last week's Tribal Council Jaime's paranoia is getting on the others' nerves. Jaime tries to stir Cindy up against Gary (it didn't work), he accuses Gary of lying (everyone backs up Gary).

Reward Challenge
Competition: Race through mud and obstacles.
Reward: Helicopter ride to a night of luxury.

This is a relay race through mud and over or under obstacles with the object being to fill up a large container with corn. The Survivors are divided into two teams and will be tied to another on their team.

The teams:
Jaime-Rafe and Cindy-Lydia
versus
Gary-Judd and Stephenie-Danni

Jaime-Rafe got an early lead but Gary-Judd and Stephenie-Danni ultimately won Reward.

Stephenie is happy, she says the this is the best possible group of four she could be with. They enjoy the usual good food and drink. Gary makes his pitch: this game should be the best of the best (strength, *grunt, grunt*). He doesn't want a weakling to slip by and win this. He mentions Lydia and Cindy - if anyone is in the final two with either of them, who do you think will win? They also get a special treat: videos from home.

Meanwhile back at camp, Jaime is being paranoid with poor Rafe again. Jaime wants a promise from Rafe to be in the final 3 with them and Judd. Rafe says he can't promise that just yet, - yada yada yada - yes, the final 6 is definite. Rafe in private tells us that he's is real tired of dealing with Jaime and he's done trying to figure out his strategy.

When the Reward winners get back Judd tells us the only one he was worried about was Jaime. Judd tries to reassure the paranoid one.

Immunity Challenge
Competition: Rope Race

Each Survivor is attached to a rope at the waist. The rope is very long and it twisted around obstacles. The Survivors have to work their way through it and the first four move on to stage two.

Rafe, Jaime, Stephenie and Cindy move on to stage two. Gary lead most of the way but Cindy just beat him for the fourth spot.

The second stage had some height to it. Cindy was close to winning Immunitty but Rafe just beat her.

Scheming is Free
Rafe says that this is his third win or so (plus several second place finishes) and he's afraid he may be making himself a target. Gary said he gave it his best shot, but seems resigned to his fate. Judd says it's Gary tonight, but Jaime isn't really sure. Jaime works Rafe over a game of mancala. In confessional Rafe says he's told Jaime like seven times today not to worry or be nervous.

Lydia, Stephenie and Rafe are talking about voting off Jaime. Stephenie says that it all comes down to Lydia, Jaime will go if she wants him to. Lydia says she's been with Jaime since the beginning so it would be hard to vote for him.

So it looks like it will be either Gary or Jaime, who will be voted off . . .

Jeff Probst: Stephenie how was the Reward?
Stephenie: It was great, a nice bonding moment.
Jeff Probst: And you Danni?
Danni: I agree, it was nice to get to know some of the others.
Jeff Probst: Judd what do you think of Gary?
Judd: Gary is an amazing person, he's a man's man.
Jeff Probst: Would you have trouble voting for him?
Judd: It would be hard to vote for him , but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Jeff Probst: Jaime is there anyone left that you wouldn't miss?
Jaime: No, everyone is super.
Jeff Probst: Gary how's the game mentally?
Gary: I just try and maintain a positive attitude and take each day as it comes.

Time to Vote:
The Survivors are shown two votes for Gary but Jaime gets five votes. So Jaime is voted off! Judd has a look on his face like "Oh, my God!" (he was shown voting for Gary.)
Jaime stands up and yells "Blind-sided, now that's how you vote someone out!"

Jeff Probst's Final Thought
Jaime just gave you the best advice, information and whether you choose to share it or not is crucial in this game.

Jaime's final words:
It hurts to leave and have Lydia vote against me . . . she didn't even warn me . . . it's hard to see good people go bad, but that's the game . . .

Alliances
Why wasn't Judd in on voting Jaime off? Does this mean Judd is next? Maybe Stephenie isn't as close to him as she's said.

Heroes and Villains
I'm glad Jaime is gone. I'm still rooting for Danni but she's got a long, hard road ahead of her if she's going to win this thing.
