Scottish Toddler CSA victim’s family speak out

After the main offenders in one of Scotland’s highest profile cases were jailed for 13 and 16 years respectively, the parent(s) of one victim told their story to BBC News. Her view on how to handle offenders is thought-provoking in the extreme. For the record I have to disagree with it, but you’ll have to make your own mind up.

Carnival Against Child Abuse for October

Male Survivor site for Russian users

As reported over at American Malesurvivor.org, Male Russian survivors of CSA organised a meeting recently. One of the contributors to survivorsresource.com also reported that there is a forum there for anyone to post, which is still in its infancy. However like the UK and Australia-based male self-help websites, being survivor led in Russian/Ukraine/Eastern Europe itself, is the best way forward for people from that region.

It’s a Russian-only website despite the anglicised title, so if you’re from that region, take a look at the site and see what it has to offer.

Theoren Fleury interviewed on The Hour

If you’re British, postal strikes will stop you getting hold of Theoren Fleury’s book Playing With Fire for a few weeks yet, unless you choose an overseas Amazon/Ebay seller willing to use a courier related to Parcelforce – or if try a large retail bookshop.

So whilst you wait, you can watch the hockey player interviewed on The Hour in support of the book. It’s a two-part Youtube section so watch it as soon as possible before it gets removed due to copyright purposes. If that happens, then like the BAFTAs, we’ll try to point you to alternatives as they appear.

Caspar Walsh on Sex Offender Writing Workshops

Caspar Walsh has used his semi-regular colunmn with the Guardian newspaper to inform us that since his book was published, his writing workshops in prison have now extended to sex offenders, sharing some of his own experience along the way. His view is interesting, though The Guardian has done the disservice of not allowing comments on the article unless you write or email directly. Walsh also, perhaps necessarily, glosses over the view that some offenders will not care about their crimes should they not believe they are doing wrong – but that would lower the chance of their attending Walsh’s class in the first place.

High Profile Abuse Case TV Updates

The BBC has obtained recorded transcripts of police interviews with paedophile nursery worker Vanessa George for its Regional Current Affairs Magazine Inside Out (South West England Region).

Also on the BBC, the Storyville documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired has been repeated following news of the denial of bail to the film director.

For British viewers, the Inside Out programme was announced at very short notice, but both are available to view on BBC’s iPlayer streaming site until the end of Sunday and Monday respectively.

Ex-NHL player Theoren Fleury discloses in book

Theoren Fleury’s forthcoming book about his hockey career and life will be the second book to detail sexual abuse at the hands of paedophile coach Graham James, who served three years for the abuse of Sheldon Kennedy and another unnamed hockey player.

Kennedy’s book was released three years ago, but it goes without saying that now that the coach effectively served one year for each player he is known to have abused, that to allow him to carry on working in the sport defies belief. The general article about the forthcoming book is here.

More Educational Brit Paedophiles Uncovered

Following the conviction of Vanessa George, another female paedophile has confessed to 100 attacks on a number of children of both sexes. That report is here, and the paper has been careful not to dump the blame on any man she was in contact with as some kind of controller. In a different case a male nursery worker was caught after attacking three victims, though the presence of the parents and other carers in tandem helped to prevent ten times the damage as in the George case.
