Windows Setup v1 - Install Many Windows directly from ISO file

I have come up with a nice and in fact very easy way of installing all versions Windows7/Server 2008 R2/Server 2008/ and Windows Vista.Many of us would have wished to just directly install windows directly from ISO file without the need to burn DVD's.And what's more you even get the chance to choose your own OEM folder and your own unattended.xml file which you can choose even after the windows setup has started..What this type of setup gives us is flexibility.You can just create your ISO files once and then you can add your updates,applications etc directly from outside without making any changes to the windows iso..Just too good to be true..Isn't it ?
Well..This is just my first attempt at coding and bear with me for that..

Windows Setup v1

I have created a nice little package called Windows Setup which helps us in doing all of the above said things..For this i have used Grub4Dos,Firadisk ramdisk driver and many many readings on the net,particularly the genius people at Reboot.Pro...The actual idea of the above scheme came from steve6375 from reboot.pro..I have just refined it and added GUI and the OEM and unattended setup options so that it becomes complete..

NOTE : This method is for advanced users only...So if you think you are comfortable with installing bootloaders to mbr and partitioning etc,Then only you should try this method..

Main Features..

1 ) Install All versions of Windows ( Above Windows XP) Directly from ISO files from USB disks as Well as Hard Disks.

2 ) Ability to Put ISO files on any Disk Drive,the setup will automatically search The "ISO" folder..

3 ) You can choose Your own OEM Folder directly from Windows setup and moreover it can be on any Disk Drive..

4 ) Similarly you can even choose your unattend.xml even after starting your windows setup and you can place it anywhere..

5 ) Supports All versions of Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2 /Server 2008 / Winodws Vista / Windows WHS 2011 / MultiPoint Server and in fact may work with any version that uses Windows 7 setup method..

Method:

1 ) You must use untouched iso for better results,..But it can also work with other iso's as well..

2 ) Download the file from the download link given below and extract it to the root of any Disk Drive..

3 ) You must the run the command file with administrative privileges..For this just right click the .cmd file and select "Run as Administrator"..
What actually we are trying to do is that we will try to run my "WindowsSetup.exe" file before the actual windows setup starts..So for that we have to modify the "boot.wim" file in the "sources" folder of Windows DVD...
I have prepared these batch files as it will then make the required modding of the Windows ISO file very very easy...I have used nonosence Pre-activation Kit as a base and modified it according to my requirement...As I have said that i am just a beginner in coding..

4 ) If you want to use x86 version of windows then use "WindowsSetup_x86.cmd"..and then run it as administrator..The modified ISO file "Windows_x86_Updated.iso" will be there at the WindowsSetup folder.

5 ) If you want to use x64 version of windows then use "WindowsSetup_x64.cmd"..and then run it as adminitrator..The modified ISO file "Windows_x64_Updated.iso" will be there at the WindowsSetup folder

6 ) Once the Windows ISO files have been modified,we have to install grub4dos bootloader to the MBR of the USB drive or the Disk drive from which you want to install windows..This is required as Gru4dos will help us in mapping the ISO files directly with the help of "Firadisk" ramdisk driver...

7 ) If you want to install Grub4Dos on your own then you can use this link which will tell you in detail how to install it on any drive...But you must use the not use the "menu.lst" and "grldr" file from that link..All the necessary files are included in the download link given below...If you are going to use USB drive then you must use the "menu.lst" in the "\bin\USB\menu.lst",i.e, menu.lst from the USB folder in from the download..

8 ) I have also put a "installgrub4dos.cmd" batch files which will not only install grub4dos to the disk drive but will also format and partition the selected disk if you want to do so...It will also copy the required files from the downloaded folder to your selected disk drive..

9 ) You must put your updated and modified Windows ISO file in a folder named "ISO" which must be at the root of any DISK Drive ..It can be your USB drive or any other drive...The "ISO" folder should also contain a marker file called "choose_an_iso" which will help us in selecting the ISO file directly from the ISO folder..The Windows ISO files should be renamed for covenience..for example..."en_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x86_dvd_u_677460.i so" can be renamed as "WIN732SP1U.iso"

I am sure all of you would would like to own a MULTI-OEM XP DVD which when you insert into an OEM Computer which has got SLP 1 strings in its bios will get activated automatically…Well that’s what we are going to achieve after following these very easy steps..It took lots of trial and error and after lots of testing,I have come up with this method..So please do reply if you were successful with this method or not.This method will pre-activate all the following brands of pc’s which have these “SLP 1 strings” in their bios….

To check whether your system has these slp strings in your bios or not,you can use “OEMBIOS tool (v1.1)”..Just run it on your system and it will tell you whether you have slp strings in your bios or not.If you have slp strings in your bios,it will give its “CRC Value” as well as the “SLP String” in your Bios.

Requirements:

• Windows Xp Oem untouched iso’s (XP-Pro,XP-Home,XP-MediaCentre and XP-64Bit)
• Iso Editing utilities such as Ultra iso or Magic iso or any other similar softwares for editing the iso files..

Steps To do:

1. First of all get yourself untouched iso images of XP-Pro,XP-Home,XP-MediaCentre and XP-64bit versions and if you don’t have one then you can easily convert your retail or VLK versions into OEM version by following THIS thread.

2. Download “WinXP_MULTIOEM.rar” from the following link and extract the files into a folder on your desktop.

3. Download all the relevant “Uncompressed Oembios Filesets” from the “Oem Bios Archive” from HERE. i.e,download all the oembios filesets and put them in their respective folders in the “OEM” folder in the “WinXP_MULTIOEM” folder you just extracted on your desktop.You have to match the CRC values of the OEM filesets with the foldernames of the folders in the “OEM” folders..

For Example: If you have “ACERSYSTEM” in your bios then its CRC value is “717B6EF3”,so you just download the uncompressed “Acer-717B6EF3” from the archive and then extract only the Oembiosfiles into “717B6EF3” folder in the “OEM” folder in the extracted “WinXP_MULTIOEM” folder.Similarly download all the Other files and put them in their respective folder in the “OEM” folder.

4. There are four folder in your extracted “WinXP_MULTIOEM”..
• XP_HOME
• XP_MCE
• XP_PRO
• XP64
Each of these folders contain “oemscan.ini” file.Now if you are creating an XP Professional MULTI OEM,then copy the “oemscan.ini” file from “XP_Pro” folder into the “OEM” folder in the “WinXP_MULTIOEM”.Similarly if you are making other versions of XP MULTI OEM,then copy their “oemscan.ini” into the “OEM” folder.You can also edit the “oemscan.ini” and keep only those relevant line whose DVD you want to make and delete the other lines.

5. Open your untouched “Windows XP” iso’s with the help of Ultraiso or any other iso editing utility.

6. Now copy the “OEM” folder from the Extracted “WinXP_MULTIOEM” folder on your desktop where you have just put all the Oembios filesets to the root of your Windows XP iso..

7. Also copy the “WINNT.SIF” file from “WinXP_MULTIOEM” that is their on your desktop to “I386” folder in your iso i.e, “\I386\WINNT.SIF”

8. Now just save this edited Windows XP iso,and you have made your own MULTI-OEM Windows XP DVD.

NOTE:
1. I have not included oembios filesets in the “WinXP_MULTIOEM.rar” file.
2. Many thanks to “xehter” of msfn,Freestyler,and mr_smartepants of siginet for all their explainations and clarification without which this method would not have been possible.
3. Sometime,if your bios have more than ONE slp strings,the “oemscan.exe” will match the first foung slp string in your bios and insert those filesets.One way to circumvent this is that you put those line in the “oemscan.ini” whose filesets you want to be inserted.

Essential Softwares for a new Windows install

It is quite often that we have to reinstall windows either due to some virus problems or due to some hardware failures.And to get the system back to its peak performance we have to install many other essential softwares.And quite often we do forget to install some of them as either we don't have them at hand at that time or we simply forget to install them..So here i will try to put together a list of of all essential softwares that we should install at the times of Windows reinstallation so that we don't have to worry about any incompatibilities later...I know we can add to this list all the Free softwares and other others required for day to day work,..But i have kept it simple and to the minimum basic..If you want i can also add the list of such free alternative softwares..

Steps to create a MULTI-OEM DVD...

1.Get yourself an untouched Windows Home Server OEM DVD..

2.Download the following archive and extract it on your desktop..

3.Download the relevant Oembios filesets as shown in the OEM folder from http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/3339-Server-2003-OEM-SLP-Keys...You must use only uncompressed oembios files..

4.Then use Ultraiso or any other iso editing software that you are familiar with and put the "OEM" folder and "CD.txt" file in the root of the WHS OEM iso..and also put the modified "install.cmd" from the downloaded files into the "\FILES\Install\install.cmd"...Just look at the below image,and this is how your iso image should look after putting all the folders and files in their places.

5.If you don't want to insert any KEY during the WHS set then modify the "pid.inf" in the "\SVR_2003\I386\" directory of the WHS iso.

6.Then just recompile the iso and you can now use this Multi-OEM DVD on any of the above brands and they will all be fully pre-activated..

NOTE:
**.You can delete the folders in the "OEM" folders which you dont want and also edit the relevant lines in the "oemscan.ini" in that folder as you wish..
**.I have not included the oembios filesets in the downloaded archive as then the download size will be more than 100MB,and i have also not included any WHS slp keys..You have to search google to get them..
**.All of this was possible because of "xehqter" from msfn and Freestyler who explained the concept in clear words and to many others whom i may not know directly..Thanks
