A casual chat with Eugene Ehlert, marketing manager for this grand resort. This Mountain View Grand might be one of the greenest hotels I have seen on my trip. From recycled kitchen grease to its own vegetable garden, this majestic building wows the ecotourist. It generates more than 50% of its energy from a wind turbine on the property. Since 1865, Mountain View Grand has been an inspiring New Hampshire White Mountain resort, noted for its beautiful surroundings, superb service, golfing, skiing, summer and winter mountain activities, as well as its incredible in-house Spa and fine dining.

Justin’s work at FSG focused on strategic planning including market analysis and strategy development. He gives specific examples of these in this engaging interview with Shane Snipes for Sustainable 1000. According to FSG, one of the guiding principles for authentic, social engagement is to create shared value by focusing on social issues that affect corporate competitiveness. Pioneering innovations in the value chain and product offering –for example, targeting “zero emissions mobility” if you are Toyota – is the first fundamental way in which corporations can create shared value.

We’re shining the spotlight on green travel and tourism to let you know about the incredible green assets New York State has for the ecologically minded traveler. We also talk about living green in New York City. As a native, Kaity brings a fresh perspective oneco-friendly living. New York State is quite ecologically friendly and we’re working to make green travel here even easier. We already have one of the lowest carbon footprints per capita in the nation, as well as the largest area of protected land east of the Mississippi. Our eco-certified attractions, dining and lodging includes more than 40 golf courses and other green-certified attractions, plus nearly 80 restaurants and hotels across all 11 travel regions.

Shane its down for a clever conversation with Pigeon Key Foundation Education Director Rachel Soufrine. Today Pigeon Key and a few of the original structures used as the base camp and later for bridge maintenance survives as a museum, dedicated to the builders of the Key West Extension of the Florida East Coast. Maps, historic photos, models and a wonderful picture postcard collection of the Key West Extension can be found in the island's museum. It is reached by an intact section of the original bridge off of Knights Key, which now serves as a biking, hiking and fishing pier.

(Part 3) Billy Keyserling sits down with Shane Snipes to find out how a small town can plan for a more inclusive and efficient government. Keyserling brings a lifetime of leadership and administrative experience to the job of Mayor of Beaufort. Billy served on City Council in the 1990s where he earned a reputation as councilman who listened to the concerns of his constituents, carefully oversaw taxpayers’ dollars and was a voice of reason and mature thinking. >>> As of the census of 2000, there were 12,950 people, 4,598 households, and 3,034 families residing in Beaufort. Greg Overbeck talks with Shane Snipes about the vision behind a green restaurant. Why sustainability matters to this industry. Why make it affordable. And what he says to other restaurant managers when get styrofoam takeaway containers. MEZ is a fascinating hybrid in itself. One of the first “green” restaurants in the country, and one of the first urban Mexican restaurants in the Southeast, its food has the earthy taste of Veracruz, but its sleek façade is completely at home in corporate RTP. It is owned and operated by the Chapel Hill Restaurant Group (Mickey Ewell, Greg Overbeck, Pete Dorrance and Kenny Carlson), a synergistic partnership that has always been ahead of the curve. The group’s fifth and most ambitious venture, MEZ proves the group hasn’t lost its touch since launching 518 West in Raleigh over a decade ago.
