Weightloss Update - Bootcamp Girl

Well Peeps,

I'm on a roll! Since I've started bootcamp, I've lost a total of 5kg. I keep track with my health assessments and I'm happy to post the results next time up.

I'm now a converted Bootcamp Girl! I love it. It's a challenge, it's not a walk in the park but I've gotten results and achieved goals I never thought I could.

No matter what, being broken in training is not an option.

Current 1km run record 6minutes 20 seconds - Love my Garmin Watch that records my speed, time and distance.

My 100 day goals (for date 14th February 2013)

6minute 30 second 1km run - ACHIEVED

6minute 1km run

20 (on toes) push-ups

10 Full Burpies

300metre row in 1minute

10 Bodyweight Chinups

I'll keep you updated, I'm about to trial a Crossfit class so will let you know when I can find my list.

Current Weight 84kg - 1st Goal 80kg

Training helps so much with my Endormetriosis and PCOS. I've been on DIABEX and all sorts of medications but now I'm off the tablets, I'm using my own strength and mental power to achieve my goals with a healthy food intake. (If you need to be on medication, I recommend you stay on it. I am not a Doctor and only sharing my own personal experience.)

It all comes down to what you put in your mouth. If you train like an athlete and eat rubbish, nothing will change.

Remember - eat right, work hard, play hard and train harder!

Hey Peeps,

What a rough and tumble week it's been, with lots of bouncy excitement on my end.

Great news is BaSatai: Outside In was a finalist in the REEL Authors International Breakout Screenplay Competition. Wahoo.

I've also received an official invitation for BaSatai: Outside In to be read at a Film Festival in April 2013. As I'm still deciding how to do this as I can't attend, I'm still just in a big party mode until I can share the official details.

Dedication to My Special Dog Jacky

Hey Peeps,

My 15 year old Boxer X, Jacky recently passed away on the 26th of October. Jacky was a super special dog. She was my protector, my friend and a great joy to have in my life. She had an agressive cancer that was giving her so much pain. We had to say goodbye.

So I'd like to share some moments with my beautiful peanut, sausage Jacky Battah -

My last picture with Jacky on the 25th of October. After this picture was taken, she turned and gave me a kiss on the cheek. She grew from an old dog to an elderly dog, but still thought she was a young puppy.

I miss her with all my heart. She moved to Sydney to be with us all.

She loved to help out when I was writing my novels, she was about 2 years old. I left the room for one second, and she was on my seat, checking out my novel.

And as a cheeky monkey babe 15 years ago at 6 weeks old. She came into our lives from a Dog Shelter, all bones and tall legs after being abandoned and she was meant to be ours.

God needed a special helper for his Angels.

Miss you Jacky, thank you for the 15 years of unconditional love.

Some other good news is how the screenplay is developing. As an author, I am so connected to this particular story of Armani's battle with herself, the BaSatai and a curse that thrives in her blood.

So when I began writing the Screenplay after being asked by an Independent Production company about the rights to the book I entered a whole new world as a writer and I love it!

First the guys over at Script Pipeline are amazing. Their expertise and knowledge is fantastic and they respond to my annoying questions promptly. If you are a screenwriter, I highly recommend this site as a way to further develop and improve yourself.

Inktip is another great site for screenwriters. As is VirtualPitchFest.

I'd like to share with you that my Screenplay adaptation for BaSatai: Outside In is currently at the "CONSIDER" stage. This is an amazing achievment considering it was recently "NCR" (not circulation ready).

Some comments from my development notes:

"With its compelling fantasy world and charismatic lead heroine, this script has many of the elements needed to create a successful franchise. This first episode in what could become a series of films with strong appeal to teens and young adults sets up a number of interesting character conflicts. Armani has a slow-burn romance with Rafael, and what appears to at first be a romantic triangle between Armani, Rafael, and Karhl (somewhat reminiscent of the TWILIGHT series) takes a surprising turn... Also quite effective is the arc of the Armani and Valko relationship, ending the script in a way that makes us eager to see what happens in the next film." Script Pipeline Analysis.

REEL Authors is also another great site for Screenwriters. The feedback I've received from a reader with my screenplay is below.

"There’s a lot of great writing in BaSatai: Outside In. You evoke the world of H-trae really well. The people and creatures are deftly created. The BaSatai, Guardians and supernatural S’teuqoubs etc. The storyline is complex and twisting. I love the two parallel worlds angle (Earth and H-trae) - with a travelable divide at risk due to Armani’s curse.

Armani’s a great protagonist. Her inner conflict is nicely rendered. She’s been hidden from birth, raised as a human yet her BaSatai instincts are maturing, demand her attention. But she’s understandably afraid of the power she might evoke, meanwhile she has to contend with real world teen issues.

…unaware that her hunters are getting ever closer.

You have lots of other aspects I really liked. I loved the BaSatai’s shifting ability. The shift on page 49 would be amazing to see on the big screen. You have a great supporting cast, two of my favorites being Rafael and Karhl.

Final note:Lots of great work here. Writer with heaps of potential. "

BaSatai: Outside In is on the way.
I am possibly more excited about the screenplay than when the book was released in April 2012.

Swearing and Other Stuff in Young Adult Novels

Hey Peeps,

I've been writing for years, though only recently published (independently self published), I understand my characters like the back of my hand. I write both adult fiction and young adult fiction. Two very different styles though similar in that a great story always requires well developed CHARACTERS.

Understanding characterization is important part of story dramatization. What would the character say and do in any number of situations? How are they perceived by other characters? Do you know who are your characters?

SWEARING! Yes I know it can be controversial and maybe inappropriate in some cases but I'm talking about swearing in Young Adult novels, I'm not talking about swearing in Childrens books.

Teens and Young Adults are going to experience a whole set of life challenges in this life. Dealing with the fact that there will be swearing in movies, novels and in the real world isn't impractical. Though seriously impolite.

I deal with a lot of ANNOYING issues which on occassion causes me to let out an very inappropriate word. In reality, I wish this didn't happen but I've become so immune to what I say it's a natural reflex to drop the word without thinking. Of course, I'm working on fixing this issue. Now as a writer, let's discuss how it comes across in my written projects.

Both my novels include swearing, though I don't believe it is spattered unecessarily with swear words deliberately. I just believe that in the moment the word is used it is JUSTIFIED. The character is faced with an emotionally, traumatic or jarring incident/moment in which saying the word comes out naturally.

I believe this is more so in my YA Novel BaSatai: Outside In. Armani the main character is faced with emotional, intense and terrifying moments in which her expression is to vent with a swear word. Karhl is also prone to swear especially when Armani is almost lost to him in one moment.

If a SUPERNATURAL HUNTER was after you, eager to kill you, would you be all politeness or putting on your 'DON'T MESS WITH ME' cap!

Or take a leaf out of XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS' book and LALALALALALA your way out of that mess!

I chose the Xena option and I won't be all politeness.

However, I don't condone swearing, being rude or any other such impolite behavior without just cause. Though I'm seriously not offended if it happens.

So if you are a reader interested in reading my novel BaSatai: Outside In be warned there is swearing in this novel and I hope it doesn't offend. It in no way means you should swear yourself, afterall, BaSatai: Outside In is fantasy, a piece of fiction and reflective only of what the characters experience.

Books to Movies

Hi Peeps,

I love the idea of great books turning into great movies. I love reading and exploring literature but I love it when really awesome books turn into movies and do it well. Here is my list of favorite book to movies.

Twilight Series - except for New Moon (never liked the book or the movie)

Really hoping for a great option of Vampire Academy Series (excellent book, hope the movie is just as good)

True Blood (granted a TV series) still great reading and spunky TV to watch, though I was a bit put off in the last series.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - very intense, long winded book but still amazing as well as on screen, hard to watch some of those scenes.

Harry Potter! Yes I hated the last book but the last movie was pretty cool, great effects.

There is a long list of really great screenplays for some pretty awesome books.

The screenplay for my own Epic Saga, BaSatai: Outside In is currently under review by some big Production Companies - super excited. I must admit VISUALLY its so much fun creating my idea into a great screenplay.

Without a Doubt the screenplay adaptation for my award winning Romance novel Mad About the Boy is ready also. Getting positive feedback.

My love of SPORT - Weightloss Challenge Update

Hey Peeps,

Well if you know me, and know me well, you'd understand my passion for SPORT.

I'm into all things health and fitness! I have a passion for keeping myself in tip top shape. Granted, I haven't been well these couple of weeks but I'm back on the band wagon. Wahoo.

I love Bootcamp, I've recently lost 4.4kg (maybe because I wasn't well) but it's going to stay off.

In Sydney, I go to RUSH HOUR and let me tell you, these TRAINERS are amazing.

So ladies and gentlemen, if you've happened to come across my blog suddenly in search of Bootcamp Trainers and you live in Sydney - join RUSH Hour Australia. Full disclosure, I'm not paid in anyway to endorse Rush Hour Australia, I'm just sharing my crazy experience with their workouts and how good it feels to have achieved some awesome results.

I've trained with a lot of trainers and I get bored very quickly with Personal Trainers that aren't able to keep sessions interesting.

But RUSH HOUR are different, and they definitely have me as a customer for as long as I'm in Australia.

I've achieved so much since I started. Amazing things, that seem so simple but mean so much. Those little things will pile up into my BAG of GOLD in my Corner of Achievements.

Saturday, I jumped over a small hurdle.

It's been a horrible 12 weeks where I have tried and tried to jump over these short hurdles and I finally had my brain click, my legs lifted and I jumped over it. It's harder than it looks. But WAHOOO. I did it.

I love CHALLENGES! Have you ever been challenged? Well recently, I've been told, that I would not, could not, achieve one of my goals.

What's a girl to do - take a leaf from Barney Stinson's book.

"CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!" And that's what I did. So MY goals are set.

I am determined to push that 300Kg 10 REPS on the Leg Press - no kidding, I've done it before, it's not impossible. DECEMBER 2012 is my Timeline.

I am a FIGHTER - YOU MAKE ME STRONGER

So here it goes Peeps, I'm on my way to achieveing my goal. I still think he believes, I can't do it but that only FUELS my need to prove him wrong.

However, I did demand a present as a reward, of course, I have kindly taken this request back. I now will be satisfied with the EXPRESSION ON his FACE When I achieve my GOAL.

NOW onto some other exciting stuff.

Grand Final Weekend here in Sydney - Go the DOGGIES. The Bulldogs are in the Season Final and my team are looking good for a WIN against the STORM.

Alpha Male Characters - My take on Fifty Shades and Other Male Leads

Well Peeps,

It's time for my view on the Alpha Male Character in Books. There are so many memorable characters and especially couples that I love being a reader just as much as I love writing about these characters and couples.

Christian Grey - there I said his name and he'll be one of the most famous male leads in a Book along with Edward Cullen, Mr Darcy, Eric Northman and a few others.

I found it really hard to like EL James Fifty Shades of Grey when I first started reading it. I don't read erotica or erotic novels regularly, I love sensual romance and always have. I believe it could have been the hype with the book from women and I just couldn't get into it.

After a wonderful chat with my Beauty Therapist Judy, who is also an avid romance reader, she insisted I try again. She described Christian as an Alpha Male, a dominant, in control man which is a rare find in the real world. She said the romance was hot but there was an intense emotional relationship between Ana and Christian. So with much excitement, I decided to give it another go.

So with a clear head and an open mind, I headed to Dymocks and bought all three under the recommendation of Judy.

And let me tell you, I really enjoyed the books. She was right. The first book was a bit full on and BDSM is not something I would normally enjoy reading but this book hit the mark as it did with many other readers. I understand that not all readers enjoyed this book or the trilogy. I however after my second try loved it.

Alpha Male Leads are devine. They reach out to women in a way that in the real world you may rarely see in men. I know because I work with 5 Executives, all male.

I'm not a feminist but I believe in equality with men and women intellectually, however I also love dominant, in control, decision making men who know exactly how they want it and how to get it without all the fluffing around and pussyfooting.

Sadly, I believe women have brought up a generation of boys who have grown into men that are not as strong and in control as most women now seem to desire (if Fifty Shades is any indication). I've also heard so much on the radio over discussions that women have left their men because they've read Fifty Shades. If you have, it's your choice but when you boss your man around and put him under your thumb and he lets you - it's not just his fault.

I recently came across a male acquatance whom I hadn't seen for a few years. It was good to catch up. He's softly spoken, respectable and shared that he recently was engaged. I was truly and sincerely happy for him. He spoke about his fiance and how they were going to get married in her Church (which in our culture is quite unusual as it is more common for the woman to marry in the man's Church), and I suddenly realized he loves her but she has the upper hand in that he follows her around. By the way, when I met her, she gave me the filthiest look. And I can quite honestly say - I don't want your man lady, you can have him! A superior example of a man who is happy to follow the womans lead.

Ladies everyone needs to decide what they want out of a relationship. No one is perfect, we take the good with the bad.

I'm still in search of my strong, independent, slightly posssesive, control freak of a man who loves life passionately, has ambition to be the best he can be, will argue but still be respectful in this life; who can love unconditionally and give me an open feeling of being safe, protected and loved passionately.

I'm waiting for my Christian Grey, Edward Cullen and Mr Darcy combined to show up and I'm happy to keep my high standard just the way it is.

This is ONLY my view and you are completely entitled to disagree with me. I have a right to my opinion just as everyone else does. I write based on my own experiences in this life.
