A Painfully Handstitched Fabric Football!

2011-10-19T13:06:00.006+08:00

But oh so satisfying to see the end product!

❤

This football is for a lil cool dude

who is all the way in Vancouver!

Using recycled paper, shirt fabrics and recycled rope/cord.

Here is the process:

Cut out the shape using recycled paper and cut out fabric leaving enough to fold over.

Fold fabric over the shape and secure with a running stitch.

Arrange and attach the pieces to the centre piece.

Both sides of the ball are sewn together!

Invert it and you can see the ribbons and cords!
I read somewhere that adding the little cords/ribbons provides tactile play
but the tutorial here doesn't include this. :)

Then join both together leaving only 1 small opening for stuffing.

Remove the recycled paper shapes which can be reused for another ball.

Invert the ball and stuffed with poly fibre with one opening left to stitch up!

IT IS...

FINISHED!

Here is the tutorial I used.

↪ Off to the Post Office! :)

Ruffled with Ruffles!

2011-10-04T01:08:00.003+08:00

So after researching

and reading different tutorials on

how to create a pettiskirt,

I finally got down to doing it.

My inspiration is my friend's 5-year-old

whom I am making this for.

I couldn't find the nylon chiffon that

is specified for pettiskirts.

So I settled for a slightly heavier nylon fabric

which only came in white,

stretchy but not as translucent as nylon chiffon.

It was soft enough, although I wonder

if it is heavier than nylon chiffon.

I decided to use Batik fabric instead of the usual satin
for the top piece, to create an Asian version...

This is the attached first layer...

And many more ruffles later...

2 layers of ruffles!

And finally the pettiskirt is complete.

I must admit that I halfed the amount of nylon used.

So the skirt isn't as poufy as most pettiskirts are.

And even so, there is more than enough of ruffling to ruffle me.

I am quite happy with the outcome

and may try the full amount of fabric on a second skirt!

Creating all the ruffles was quite therapeutic, actually.

Here is the tutorial that I used.

Tootie Booties!

2011-07-27T22:37:00.007+08:00

Found some cute bootie pattern online and decided to test it out.

It's cute but didn't really fit well when I tested on my friend's bubs. :(

Perhaps it will fit a much more chubby bub. :)

Mushroom Madness!

2011-05-09T18:31:00.001+08:00

I love the look of raw cotton.

My mushrooms are all organically made! haha

Measuring a height of 12cm

with underside details,

filled with polyfibre,

and added glass stones to the base

to give weight so that they can stand.

They make great pin cushions and light paper weight. :)

I ❤ Mushrooms.

Fungi Love

2011-04-28T12:50:00.001+08:00

I needed a pin cushion and found inspiration on the net

to make a mushroom that can stand as a pin cushion!

I used recycled material and am loving the colours.

So inspired to make more of these fungi...

Love it!

I also love eating mushrooms!

Wouldn't it be fun to make

a whole lot of mushrooms

and decorate my living room?

Long Hair Dilemma

2011-04-27T16:57:00.001+08:00

When I have short, I want long.

Now I have long, I am bored.

A discontent me.

Braided here.

My hair has grown longer already since this May2010 post

and I am contemplating how to wear it.

So far the easiest way has been

to tie it up in a ponytail.

But Im getting bored.

Any ideas?

Magnetic Pen Holders!

2011-04-22T01:45:00.001+08:00

Got a hand me down Scrabble set

and finding ways to re-purpose and re-use...

So I stuck some magnet on the letter trays

and ta-dah! - a pen holder

for my magnetic notice board. :)

Origami flowers

2010-12-19T15:22:00.000+08:00

folding and folding and folding...

lately I've been plagued by tendonitis for all the stuff I do with my hands.

Its taking a toll already....

But aren't these too cute? I am making more to create a flower mobile! :D

need to constantly stretch and take short breaks...

sometimes I get carried away for hours till my back, neck and fingers all ache!

Im sure craft lovers understand what I mean. :)

What's cooking?!

2010-12-03T22:10:00.003+08:00

I am not a cook but I was inspired

and decided to cook one evening and ta-dah!

A Teriyaki Grilled Codfish

and some

Lemon Butter Garlic Prawns!

Well, it wasn't like I whipped them up blindfolded.

I am not a cook.

I had to search for the recipes,

call a friend for some advice... heheh

But I decided that I needed to start somewhere and learn!

And I had one satisfied customer - my husband!

Bravo Sue!

Made with love!

2010-11-19T14:20:00.002+08:00

The last assignment is the longest! feels like I'm swimming in mud.

But I had a short break and some fun making this for my niece as her 13th birthday present! Most materials are recycled except for the crochet lace and elastic. :)

its nearly christmas!!!

2010-11-10T11:48:00.000+08:00

Finally done with my 2 electives on fashion and textiles, and had a great time with non-stop deadlines to meet every week! I learned soooo much. But neglected my blog. eeks.

Now onto my final assignment for this LAST semester on design management. :) woohoo.

Working also on a cat for my friend's birthday present now... have selected the material and done the face only. But can't wait to complete the whole thing!

Also got a 2nd hand printing kit from a garage sale and can't wait to create something with it... the ink pad is disintegrating, so I gotta get a new one. Not sure what brand or type to get... or if I should get a few colours?

Finishing the race soon!
