Does anyone else use google news?
or any of the personalized google features for that matter.
it's all good and cool but the quality of their sources are crappy. some of the news articles come from places like motherjones.com, Minnesota Public Radio, or just from someone's blog. hell, next thing you know they'll be using me as a source of information.
the google personalized front page isn't any better. on my page i have the traffic map, which is so in acurate and loosley informed that i have to go to yahoo and look at their traffic map if i want to avoid serious road hazards. even the horoscope is inacurate.
no link, you know what google is.

I hate to just refer you to another site but all i can say here is read the article and the comments under it.
While i do give them credit for allowing people to post comments on the articles, all online news needs this, the website itse;f is loaded full of pop crap which makes them the least credible source for information unless you like you pop culture to be manipulated, bought and sold by the companies selling mass produced cool.

I'm getting tired of people opening their big mouths just to get publicity. Some researchers in Colorado believe (who listens to anyone in Colorado?) that earth like planets may be more common. Key words, may be and believe. It's not even a theory let alone fact but they took it into their hands to talk about this idea to people. Of course people are going to go, oh my gosh aliens. Maybe they did it for the money, maybe they did it because no one thinks there's intelligent life in Colorado. The bottom line is they have nothing but a computer simulation that use estimated and conceptual figure provides a possibility that more earth like planets could exist.
I've got news for them, we already thought more earth like planets existed. That is if you believe that the universe is infinite, with infinite possibilities anything can happen and if your a math nerd you know that any percentage of infinity is infinity. Therefore there an infinite number of earth like planets.
what people really should be talking about how impossible long distance space travel is. And I don't mean long distance, mars, I mean sci-fi movie long distance. All these people who jump at the idea that there's a chance aliens exist or that in the next decade we could be living on the moon are gonna get their hearts broken.
here's my theory.
the universe is infinite and contains an infinite amount of objects moving at every possible speed and direction. Now try to imagine traveling a vast distance while calculating every single moving object including the ones behind the planets, you know the ones you can't see while estimating if certain stars an gravitational forces will still exist by the time you get there. I'm no math wiz but is sounds life calculating infinity to the infinite power. What kind of computer could do that?
not ours. At our current level of space and computer tech we can't even get into space on a rainy day. What make anyone thing we'll be colonizing planets anytime soon. We might have a chance at the moon before the earth becomes a rotting pool of pollution (thanks mom and dad for just now figuring out that you've screwed the environment).
it may sound cynical but the human race is going to die out and all we have to show for it is the nuclear bomb and reality TV shows.
blah, what's the point. We shouldn't even bother having kids their just going to die in painful and hideous ways. Everyman for themselves.... Oh wait we're already doing that.

Sorry about the art thing but this keeps popping up on my screen and it's annoying.

it seems that there are some people who think there is an issue here. Yeah, understand kids crying, child abuse and it probably is. People hate the photographer but as someone else said, what about the parents. The parents of these children obviously consented to let them cry. Its interesting how people ignore the physiological ramifications of what is done to people at young ages. I know a fellow who rolled off a changing table as a baby and to this day has a fear of heights (that includes high places in video games too, crazy). So in a couple of years when mommy and daddy take these kids to get Christmas photos and they throw a tantrum because they have a deep seeded fear of photos they're going to forget what they did and yell at the kid.
but seriously I don't care. There are so many bad parents today that that generation is going to be screwed up. The other day I saw a kid in a car alone outside of burgerking while mom was inside eating. I wondered for a minute what would happen if I took the kid. Would it teach the mom a lesson or would everyone think I was insane and creepy?
doesn't matter either because I'd rather avoid the ear bleeding screams of children. They're everywhere and people complain about loud music or people talking too loud on there cellphones. Everyone is too afraid to complain about a crying child, to tell the mom to leave the store or go outside. Its like kids have a magic bubble over them where everyone is too afraid to interfere even if it's in everyone's best interest.

It's the end of class boys and girls and here is the final lesson (I'm sure those of you who couldn't care less about art are happy).
It took a while and a lot of searching to find so good art with originality, emotion and talent.
While these two artists aren't my personal cup-o-tea I wouldn't claw out my eyes if I had to put their work on my wall.

This guys does good work and you can see right away that he puts time and forethought into them. My only issue with him is that I've crossed his path before and he's a bit of a jerk (with a speech impediment) and he's beginning to get too commercialized. By that I mean that he's expanding into selling his work on each coast even though he lives in NY. It's a bit lame since half the point of showing your work is so people can talk to the artist and plus their are plenty of struggling artists in California would would like to have a chance at gallery space. Still, I guess you can't fault him for trying to sell.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting this gal but as you can see by here happy pictures its not something I would normally have on my wall. From what I gather she specializes in book illustration. Which only gives he more points because she isn't drawing the same pictures everyone else is. The best thing about her work is that if I wanted to be suave and dashing by purchasing a present for a lady friend I'd buy one of her works.

what is collage? Taking other peoples work, like photos and drawings and words, cutting them up, re arranging them and saying, "ta da, look what I made." I made the same thing in kindergarten but even then I had the morals not to make money off someone else's work. That is called cheating and you get put in the corner with a dunce cap on if you do that. If you had and real artistic talent you would draw/paint by hand the exact same collection of images. Maybe I'd give you a little more credit although it still is taking someone else's idea.

Shock art.
art with some type of grotesque graphic display or meaning. As far as an investment goes shock at is only as valuable as how long and shocking the message it contains is. As home owner shock art is only worthwhile if you don't mind having a huge painting a genitalia being crushed on your wall. As an artist shock art is... Well unless you're a shock artist shock art is hard to understand.
often shock art is slapped together using low quality materials, little time but hours of thought. My friend once shaved his entire body and than sprinkled the hair onto a canvas in the shape of a body. Shock artist are often extremely passionate about what they are thinking about and the way of showing it that or they are greedy bastards who know that doing something bad gets them attention.
in the end it's just like a circus freak show. Its interesting to watch but you aren't going to take anything home.

This is the new pop and I say pop in the most disgusting way possible. Along time ago any Warhol (who I don't like) lead the pop art revolution. Back then pop art meant using mass production techniques and famous logic to create pieces of art. The idea was to bring in to light the intensity at which we were being sold to through art. In short it was making fun of pop. Was. was was. The ironic thing that happened was the other artist began copying this style and techniques as well as corporations in order to sell more things.
now the new pop art is this cartoon surrealist (abstract images and ideas place in the painting which usually have meaning to only the artist) stuff that is every where (also that grunge threshold stuff). Its being copied and collected by everyone as they talk about how great it is when in fact it might as well be Campbell soup labels because they're so mass produced.

Isn't he a cute sock monkey? And doesn't the flower fabric make him unique?
$40 unique? Okay it's in Australian dollars but would you pay $30 US dollars for this stuffed animal because let's face it, it is a stuffed animal. Sure someone hand made this that give it a little more value but then again at the same time they sell mass made sock monkeys for eighteen bucks. Now if this was something original and not a sock monkey (a concept that's been around for a long time) then it might be worth it.
but I'm not angry at the sock monkey. What I'm angry at is that this sock monkey will probably be purchased along with other over priced things like this.

the old folks, the ones getting ready to retire with savings and retirement accounts that have been hoarding money for the last twenty years. how is hyper-realism and different than taking a photograph?
it take more time and ability then a photograph yet it captures the same image a photograph can.
so why not take a photograph?
everyone is doing it on their digital cameras and cellphones. Those same amateur photographers take the same stupid pictures of people, feet, thing they thing are funny or girls on the beach. Maybe their technique and composition are crap but the moment of time they capture, the image, character, attitude, emotion, thoughts and everything are all the same as a hyper-realistic painting except that the hyper realistic painting took more then a moment to make and cost some where near $75,000 dollars. I collect art, have some on the wall in front of me now and now way would I spend that much money that has no personal value to anyone. It has no heart, so to speak. A machine could have made it (a camera) and there's no creativity involved.

Remember back in the day when the movies, Office Space and Fight Club came out how everyone, how true and felt better that they weren't the only ones who hated their jobs and wanted to run away?
It was good. It was nice it made people want to jump up and yell, Hell yeah!
So now 6 or 7 years later we can browse the internet and find various office humor like the video of that guy smashing his computer or funny pictures. What I find more funny is the fact that you can find all these things, these jokes and parodies about working in a cubicle and hating your boss yet no one is doing anything about it. At some point everyone felt like they had the power, that they could get up and walk out (hell I did it I haven't worked in an office for 6 years). It's one of the sad things about society, everyone is great at talking (holding signs, stop the war, protesting and discussing politics) but no one does anything (votes, has any actually knowledge about what is really going on in the world rather than their propagandized information). 6 years ago, for a brief moment, I thought wouldn't it be amazing if everyone who was fend up with their go no where working for a moraless company job got up and left. At first they could fill the gaps with other people desperate for jobs but as the number of people quitting increased sales and productivity would drop, they'd have to do something to get people to work for them (because its a two way street neither employer or employee can function without the other). So they clean up their act give better benefits, better pay and stop raping and pillaging the land and economy.
or we could all just shut up, and keep quiet (hate to make a religious analogy but it's like peter denying he knew Jesus at one of the most crucial moments).
it's why nothing changes because no one is willing to stick their neck out under the assumption that the general population will stand up with them. Would you trust your next door neighbor to push you out of the way of a car if it endangered their life?

I'd just like it to go on record that I was the first one, that I've been doing this since July. Make a note mark my words that this is just the beginning. More and more sights like this are going to be popping up.
These guys didn't put any contact info on the site so I couldn't get a hold of them to tell them that I was first but if they have web counter they'll see where the traffic is coming from (did I mention that I average a about 150 unique hits a month?).
I don't think they stole my idea. There's been to many times in my life I've seen a spontaneous correlation of thought processes. I just want everyone to know that I started in July and these guys started a couple days ago.

I think we've all seen one ad or another for this joint. The commercials of people standing on a white set talking about how they met their wife/husband.
And lets face it a good percentage of us have signed up for the free trial or some other thing like this. I know have and I'm not afraid to admit it... Of course I get to justify it in the next couple of sentences. Why not do it? It's a free trial and the only thing you have to lose is your dignity if someone you know sees your picture on there but that means they signed up too so... Plus there's a little bit of curiosity about their scientific questionnaire and maybe if your the romantic sort you thing at least there's a chance you might meet someone perfectly compatible with you. Then there's that whole too lazy and to tired to go out and date let alone the trouble of meeting people.
All of this has nothing to do with anything what I'm here about is the ads (yes, ads again). The thing is that you can't miss these online ads I'm talking about. They're funny. To me anyway. More than half of them have "True" pasted right between the cleavage of some gorgeous model. As I'm typing away that the internet with a pair of breasts on my screen I wonder if its a subliminal message. Is true love inbetween perfectly shaped silicon breasts? Or maybe that's the message for the girls? Maybe they're supposed to want the silicon breasts and I'm supposed to think that all the girls who sign up look like this model? Maybe we're all supposed to want silicon breast and if everyone wants the same thing then gets it we'll all be happy.
But I guess that the basic message anyone can take away is that you can only have true love if you're a sexy model or are with a sexy model and in that I think I can agree with love at first sight.

Once upon a time in geek world this was called cell shading (video game terminology). No all you have to do is find any picture use a phot editor paint brush to color over it in two tones (highlight and shading) and people think you're amazing and cool.

A continuing lesson on art

As you can clearly see from the image to the left there's clearly nothing to see. This website opens up with the great non-informative square. Can anyone tell me one of my biggest issues with websites recently? The fact that they don't bother justifying or explaining there existence. Why should I even bother clicking on this boring block of green? Tell me or sell me or convince me but don't assume I give a crap. Well, I guess I do give a crap since I clicked on it and I'm writing about it but I'm not the brightest bulb.
When you do click on the square it brings you to the images html. Images, yes. Art, no. Thank you photoshop for making everyone thing they're an artist. Next there will be a program that will write stories and all you have to do is plug in character names.
What's depressing about these images is that kids now a days (sometimes I like making myself feel old) think things like these are the coolest thing in the world. Threshold-ed images are all over the place right now, t-shirts, magazines, CD covers, posters and on and on. Personally I think the only reason they're popular is because any child can make them.
In case you don't know what a threshold-ed image is it a image, usually a photo that is run through a filter that turns the luminescence of an image into numbers. You can choose a number and bright or dark colors outside of the threshold of that image are removed creating black and white out lines. It's a simple task of going to one of the menu bar options in photoshop and selecting threshold, 30 seconds max. So what people like this like to do is find photos chop out the parts they like threshold them and paste them into something they call art.
Now I could give this person the befit of the doubt and believe that they made these by hand or carves out wood stamps used black ink and made these but there's a dozen reasons I can tell these are photoshop, the most obvious one is the color scribbles that don't bleed through anything.
it's all very annoying and makes me not even want to bother talking about copyright infringement.

So I sat here looking at this website for a while thinking, wow... wow. This girl is good and innovative. This is the first time I'd seen an artist capable of this level of realism to make the subjects and backgrounds unreal. Then I kept looking and kept looking. There was something wrong. None of the paintings felt like they had any emotion behind them (having this sixth sense is from hanging around too many artists). The difference between a bad painting and a good painting is that you can see the emotion in a good painting, the artist leaks it into every stroke. A bad artist/painting just puts something on canvas for alternate reason, because they thought the image would sell or someone told them too. or... digitally composed images don't have any emotion in them either...
so I look around the website a little more, specifically the bio/making of section and their it was in all it's disgust. Photoshop.
This gal take a picture (and I don't mean takes the photo, she takes a picture from magazines or from someone else) puts it on her computer, enlarges the eyes, cuts out the background and puts pretty little colors in not to mention she uses one of the prefabricated filters that photoshop has to make it look like the image was created with a brush.
I thought it was odd that she had so many "paintings". Unless she was very famous she wouldn't have been able to paint that many things in less than three years, the time and cost would be huge.
In case you haven't following along, digitally composed images are not art and have no value, because like I said they have no emotion, there is not as much skill involved if I want a square on my computer I use the square tool if I want specific colors I use the color picker instead of making the perfect square and mixing colors by hand, plus digital works can be endlessly reproduced making owning one worthless. Some of the minor issues is that with digital art you never mess up, you never learn from your mistakes because you can undo or delete, digital people never tell you out right that its a digital image as if they're trying to sneak it past you. And I can go on and on.
