Smart Travel Assistant :

Smart Travel Assistant :

Really a Smart Travel Assistant to be. Really never thought of to have these things in our Suite Cases / Office Bags / School Bags ! & would it be Digital Wallets / Purses next time, waiting for this to come .

A start up is taking to Indiegogo to create what it calls the "world's first smart, connected carry-on." Bluesmart is a small suitcase with a host of features that its makers believe frequent travelers can't live without. It'll include proximity tracking to alert you if you walk away from your luggage, a TSA-approved lock that's controlled by your smartphone and a built-in battery to charge your gadgets. There's also a scale integrated into the handle that'll tell you how much your bag weighs just by lifting it off the ground, and a quick-access compartment for storing your laptop.

With an abundance of sensors, Bluesmart is hoping to enable some clever features, such as linking up with services like TripIt and offering location alerts if your bag gets unexpectedly re-routed in transit. Deals will have to be made to make these features work; for example, regarding location alerts, the company says, "As the network grows, we will cover the whole planet." As with any crowd funding campaign, you should take Bluesmart's promises with a pinch of salt, but if you don't mind potentially losing your money, you could potentially never lose your suitcase again.

Future Market

2011-08-27T22:22:00.003+05:30

This the virtual store in Korea. Out of box concept , very much promising. In fact already this concept of sharing the codes which mobile application identifies and redirects to online store has already been started in India as well in print as well as on Internet.

Let the store come to people!
Created virtual stores hoping to blend into people’s everyday lives. This first try was subway stations. Although virtual, the displays were exactly the same as actual stores – from the display to merchandise. Only one thing was different, people use smart phones to shop.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Scan the QR code of product with your phone

2. The Product automatically lands in your online cart.

3. When the online purchases is done, it is delivered to your door right after you get home.

RESULT
People can shop at Tesco Homeplus wherever they go, without having to visit the actual store. Moreover, they could change their waiting time to shopping time.

Really an awesome concept, very much promising, in fact we have already started moving towards this concept. We have already started extensively using touch sensitive gadgets, gesture recognizing gadgets, smart vehicles, innovative display technology and much more seen in this Video. Don't see any hitch this concept becoming a reality.

This video covers most of the future concepts already compiled and posted here in my blog since many years for now.

Recently at the local shopping festival in town came across a stall displaying some photo frames and name plates. Could not recognize what was so special about that. But after having a close look found out ... oh! that was a domestic switch-board having transparent touch sensitive switches to operate the fan, lights and door bell, also operated using remote control. Wow!!! thought have we arrived yet so far. Really Mesmerizing.

Enjoy Watching.

Apple engineer uses Lego to rebuild ancient Greek mechanism, will surely try to patent it

2010-12-11T18:27:00.002+05:30

The Antikythera Mechanism is what you call truly old school technology. Argued to be the world's oldest known computer, this ancient Greek invention was used some time circa 100BC to calculate and "predict celestial events and eclipses with unprecedented accuracy." Skipping past the two millennia in which it lay lost on a sea floor somewhere, the Mechanism has now been recreated by an Apple software engineer by the name of Andrew Carol, who has lovingly pieced 1,500 Lego Technic blocks together, creating 110 gears and four gearboxes in total. Each box is responsible for performing one piece of arithmetic, and when the resulting machine is fed with appropriate calendar data, it spits out a (hopefully accurate) prediction for the next time a solar eclipse should occur. All well and good, but we're really just amazed by the beauty of those gears working.

Reebok sets sights on flexible computing sportswear

2010-12-11T17:27:00.004+05:30

Science has prototyped flexible versions of just about everything a ever-loving geek needs: displays, memory, batteries, LEDs, speakers and an input device or three. Now, Reebok's looking to put some of that computing power up our sleeves. The apparel manufacturer's teamed up with MC10 -- a startup founded by our old friend John Rogers, who helped pioneer the field -- with the intent to build "conformable electronics" into high-performance clothing for athletes over the next couple of years. Though the company told MIT Technology Review the devices typically consist of thin silicon strips printed onto flexible materials, and that they might they might measure metabolism and performance using embedded sensors, hard details are few -- the only thing we know for sure is that a flexible tech scientist just scored a partnership with a major company, and we're hopeful they'll make something neat. PR after the break.

Sony to file patent application for dual-screen, dual-use tablet

2010-05-29T19:46:00.004+05:30

Sony to file patent application for dual-screen, dual-use tablet.

Described specifically as an "electronic book with enhanced features," the device would sport two screens that could take on a different functionality depending on how the device is oriented -- functioning as an e-reader when in portrait mode, and displaying a keyboard on the lower screen when placed on a table, for instance

The concept is on the surface a dual-touchscreen e-book reader but would change functions as it's rotated. On its side, the device could turn into a notebook with a keyboard below and and content up top. The design could also have solar power on the outside and would fold up like a notebook.

Skinput gadget turns your own ARM into a touch screen display

Skinput gadget turns your own ARM into a touch screen display

Those who find the touch screens on their ever shrinking gadgets too fiddly to handle, will be glad to hear scientists are developing a new touch surface... your own arm.

Developers at Microsoft Research and Carnegie Mellon University are working together to create an armband that projects an interface directly on to your skin.

They have combined a mini projector which creates a changing display with a sophisticated sensor that can tell which part of your arm is being tapped.

Skinput could solve the problem of ever shrinking gadget screens

Skinput could recognise a telephone number being typed out on a hand

The researchers showed Skinput can be used to control audio devices, play simple games like Tetris, make phone calls and navigate simple browsing systems.

The gadget effectively turns your arm into a touch screen surface by picking up various ultra-low sounds produced when you tap different areas.

Different skin locations are acoustically distinct because of bone density and the filtering effect from soft tissues and joints. The team then used software that matched sound frequencies to specific skin locations.

If the prototype isn't resting on the arm, it uses wireless technology like Bluetooth to transmit the commands to the device being controlled, such as a phone, iPod, or computer.

The sensor picks up two types of acoustic signals - transverse waves created by the rippling of skin as its tapped and longitudinal waves that travel through the soft tissue of the arm and excite the bone.

The armband prototype can be combined with an MP3 player and used to change the song or volume level.

Currently, the acoustic detector can detect five skin locations with an accuracy of 95.5 per cent, which would be high enough for many Smartphone applications.

Smart Google search Devices - Mindblowing concept device

Smart Internet search will be able to do with a mobile device in the NEAR future
A mobile device with Touch screen, built in camera, scanner, WiFi, google map (hopefully google earth), google search, image search…

Like this way, when you can see a building through it, it gives you the image search result right on the spot.

Choose a building and touch a floor and it tells you more details of the building. You can use it when you want to know a car model, an insect name, what kind of food is served at a restaurant and how much, who built a bridge, etc. etc.

It's got a scanner built in.

so you can use it this way when you want to check the meaning of a word in the newspaper, book, magazine, etc. It would be much easier to read a real book. You can use the dictionary, wikipedia, thesaurus and anything else available on the web. What do you think?

Indoor guide:Works in a building, airport, station, hospital, etc.

Automatic simultaneous translation: here Latin to English.

Search keyword: Helpful when you want to find out a word from a lot of text in newspaper/book.

Nutrition: This kind of function would be helpful for health freaks..

Black Berry

BlackBerry Storm -

What happens when the efficient menu-driven user experience of the BlackBerry meets the discoverable new user experience of finger-driven touch? The answer for the BlackBerry Storm has been that the BlackBerry experience wins, and who loses depends on what you were expecting from RIM's first departure from a physical keyboard. While adorned with a few on-screen buttons and simple gesture support, the Storm is much less of an iPhone-like experience than, say, the T-Mobile G1.

The Storm's main advantage over other BlackBerry devices is that it has a larger screen, not necessarily one that is controlled by touch. However, to accommodate the removal of its trademark keyboard, RIM has taken touch-screens into a literal new dimension by requiring users to depress the screen to activate a button on the screen, which lowers and springs back like a giant keyboard key.

The screen's ability to respond to presses as a physical button (like the trackpad in Apple's new MacBooks), helps provide a more natural feel to typing on the Storm; the feedback is certainly more satisfying than the solely visual feedback that the iPhone gives. Just because it feels good, though, doesn't mean you should do it.

Nokia unveils its first Linux phone

2009-08-29T21:39:00.002+05:30

HELSINKI (Reuters) - The world's largest handset maker, Nokia unveiled on Thursday its first phone running on Linux software.

The focus of cell phone business has shifted to services and software following Apple and Google's entrances to the market in the last two years.

"As Nokia announces the software platform that will drive its future services aspirations it created a dedicated solutions unit -- the challenge will be to ensure that all these elements work in harmony in the face of fierce competition from Apple and Google," said Ben Wood, head of research at CCS Insight.

THE LINUX BET

Analysts see Linux as a key for Nokia to gain back ground in the coming years.

The Finnish firm has dabbled with Linux since 2005, using it in "Internet tablets" -- sleek phone-like devices used to access the Web that have failed to gain mass-market appeal in part due to their lack of a cellular radio.

Nokia said Linux would work well in parallel with Symbian in its high-end product range.

"This is in no way putting Symbian in jeopardy," Anssi Vanjoki, head of sales at Nokia, told Reuters.
"Open source Symbian is going to be our main platform, and we are expanding and growing it the best we can, both in terms of functionality as well as distribution ... populating more and more of our product line with Symbian," he said.

The new model will use ARM's Cortex-A8 processor.

"If you look at the energy management properties we have in ARM, at least today, they are clearly better, miles and miles better, than what we have in Intel architecture," Vanjoki said, adding the company would not count out using Intel processors in the same product range later.

Linux is the most popular type of free, or so-called open source, computer operating system available to the public. It competes directly with Microsoft Corp, which charges for its Windows software and opposes freely sharing its code.

Touch pad Keyboard

2008-12-18T19:47:00.005+05:30

While we may not know exactly what item we're looking at in the photo above, we do know that we like it. This hot peripheral showed up on Lenovo's photostream without any explanation, and from the image it seems pretty much like a keyboard-lover's dream; it looks to be wireless, psychotically thin, and boasts an integrated trackpad and numpad. If you've been itching to find a stylish companion to that ThinkPad USB Portable Secure HD, this may just be the keyboard for you.

Electric phone concept features a dual-slide design

2008-08-10T21:04:00.004+05:30

Called the Bend Mobile, this electric phone concept features a dual-slide design and also includes "a high capacity digital camera that also pops out to larger than expected proportions."

Nokia’s virtual keyboard

2008-01-26T15:57:00.005+05:30

Nokia, you've done it again. As usual, the Finnish mobile phone kingpin has produced the kind of innovation and "wow" that we've come to expect with its latest patent request: a virtual keyboard. That's right, until now we've had to suffer the indignation of using a physical keyboard, vainly hoping that one day a company would come along with a concept that would upend the establishment and put a stop to the tyranny of single use, out-dated plastic keys... and now that day has come. Still, something seems vaguely familiar about this patent which details the workings of a "Mobile device with virtual keyboard." Okay, this system differs from others in that it expects you to wiggle your fingers around in front of the phone's camera, and responds to sound as well as vibrations, yet somehow we feel like the company's efforts could be better directed. A nice new QWERTY model wouldn't bother us, for instance.

As the capabilities of mobile devices are getting closer and closer to that of portable computers, the only thing limiting their use as such is their size. It is simply impossible to replicate the possibilities of good sized QWERTY keyboard for data entry in a small mobile device.
Various workarounds has been thought up to deal with that. And one of the more interesting and promising is virtual keyboards or even virtual input displays, projected on the working surface. There is already a number of such virtual keyboard devices on the market and Samsung has a patent pending for use of projected virtual display in a phone.
But Nokia now has an even better idea described in a patent application called “Mobile device with virtual keyboard”.
Why do we need additional projectors at all? Most of the mobile phones already come equipped with optical sensors and cameras. Let’s use them to give us virtual keyboards:

The digital camera on the phone is used to capture the movement and position of user fingers, and project them on a virtual keyboard shown on the phone display, in real time.
The phone is also equipped with the sensors to capture the sound or vibrations, generated as the user taps on the working surface (e.g. desk or table) and convert them into an input commands.
The phone itself can come with a cradle to hold it in upright position while user is typing on a table. But that is not necessary. The user can just be holding the phone in one hand and typing with another. And if no working surface is available, the user can just imitate the tapping sound with his voice.
