how to take care of your drier.

Okay so I think I am a pretty savvy mama who knows how to care for her appliances and I keep them clean and take some pride in the things I own but I found something out I didn't know this week that shocked me!! I have two girls (who change clothes at the drop of a dime) and plus a hubby who has work/home/pjs everyday! So laundry adds up fast at my house. When we moved last year we bought our own washer and drier. They were used ones from craigs list in great condition. Our drier has been taking more then one cycle to get a load dry I figured it was probably just because it was a older machine. Well I will teach you a few tricks to cut your drying time by allot!! It was also save you money on your energy bill and make your machine last longer because the heating element won't burn out at fast.

Now everyone should be cleaning the lint out every time they change loads plus cleaning the actual drier hose area out to prevent fires (just saw a cool new contraption to help make that a easier process that attaches to your vacuum!!) but I didn't realize that drier sheets build a film up on your lint trap!!! Test yours take it out run it under water if it stays on top it is clogged!! I just sprinkled a bit of baking soda (since it was right there next to the sink for my "no poo" which is getting better all the time btw) on mine and scrubbed it with some water quick. I am going to start testing mine and cleaning it at least once a month (more if it needs it!)

Another thing to help is make a few wool drier balls. There is a great tutorial here. They are easy and kids can even help whip them up. Make sure you grab wool not acrylic. Not a problem at my house and is a great use for some left overs in your stash. It will help keep things separate in the drier, absorb moisture, and static.

I have 3 (one must be in a laundry basket) but I noticed a dramatic difference when I started using these! It was crazy. Please let me know if you try this and what you think. I am off to care for a sick fire monster. She has been sick for a few days now and when she isn't napping on my lap she is keeping me on my toes.

refurb refurbed and home made corduroy beanbag chair

So Monkey Butt has been after me forever to buy her a bean bag. Well I happened across this
and thought this was even better. Then promptly forgot about it lol. But I remembered last week at the shop when the zum order came in and there was a bunch of packing peanuts. So me and Monkey Butt picked out fabric. It is corduroy and the top has paisley and the sides are elephants.

this is huge because I am not great at sewing. I even put in my first zipper. Monkey butt loved it but some one loved it even more..

from point a naughty thought this was his personal ball pit..

and no matter how I closed the box he would find a way to squeeze his butt in there. Then he slept on the bean bag all night and every time he would move the Styrofoam noise would wake me up lol apparently he is a huge fan of Styrofoam. Who knew.

you might remember this rocker that I never loved I think the fabric reminded me of a hotel room. I wasn't crazy with how it turned out

I also found fabric and recovered the rocker and its ottoman. I did it in the opposite sides of the fabric so they have a little different look. I am loving it.

I got a ton of that fabric now I am debating what else to use it on...who knows where it will pop up.

sparkly romantic eye turorial

So I thought I would share a quick tutorial with one of the new Nessa's Naturals shadows I got last week. I am loving this look. It is a sparkly romantic eye.

I I also have on my new custom foundation which has a bit more cushion since I have such dry skin (hence the unsightly patch of eczema in my hair line).

and my ruby slippers lipstick. but here is the shadow look.

I only used two colors. pale moon over the whole lip. Then I used vex in the crease and the bottom corner underneath the eye. I blended it with another brush to soften and there you have it.

I love eye shadow and I am a bit obsessed I know lol. I also used my bed head for a precise line eyeliner and maybelline falsies mascara.

diy yarn bowl

So I have been wanting a yarn bowl for a long time. A yarn bowl keeps your yarn from rolling away or getting tangled while you are working while you can still take your yarn in and out with our cutting it. I have been wanting this one for a esp long time but I just can't see my self spending that right now on my self! So today I had a very rare moment of genius...

I have a set of these that I love soo much. But don't know quiet what to do with I just sit them around because I love them. Well...

I just hooked one of these cute paper clips I got from target last trip to the cities on the side and then slid my yarn through the holes.

and it even holds my needles so my work doesn't slide off. The lace scarf yarn really tends to do that and picking it back up is next to impossible.

Then if for some reason you need to take your work out you just squeeze and unhook the little clip and boom you are good to go. Hope these makes some of you as happy as it makes me.

going shampoo free.

So for those of you who don't know me I have eczema. I might get small patches on my face ,and if I am not careful I might get patches here and there other places, but mostly it is on my scalp. I have tried all kinds of things over the years : any over the counter dry scalp shampoo, antibiotic shampoos, herbal mixtures, oil treatments, steroid creams (not the pro sports kind lol), and wen. I like wen but it might make things less but not get rid of it. All of these just don't cut it. So I decided to try to go "no poo" meaning no shampoo.

I have been experimenting with a few different ways one being borax, but I hate ordering on line and I would need citric acid to rinse. I did it with out and I felt like it gave me eye issues and wasn't super pleased. So then I changed and started doing the baking soda method. Now I have got it down to a science and I have only had to use shampoo on my hair once in two weeks (because I colored it and I felt I needed to get that out really well) but my scalp felt tight and my hair felt almost plasticy afterword. After weeding through and watching tons of videos and trying different things here are the ones I think are the best and what I am going with.

this is how I apply it and I use 2T since my hair isn't dry.

and this oneon how to wash with just suave conditioner instead of wen this is supposed to work (sorry embedding was enabled making it harder to share)

and then this one is good too for curly or dry hair people but I have heard bad things about the olive oil being very hard to get out so be careful.

So here is what I have used in the last week.

two squirt bottles (one is from beauty supply and one any mother/nurse will recognize you can have a nurse in the family grab you one or even grab like a ketchup mustard bottle pack from the isle with cooking odds and ends at walmart or dollar store) then I have suave daily clarifying (1.49) and baking soda, and some vinegar (they say apple cider but I have had this red wine vinegar in my cupboard for years and need to use it so there you go) I think it works great to exfoliate my scalp and clean my hair. I also think every now and again I will do it like the link to the second video shows (again sorry she blocked embedding so it makes it harder for me to share with you) and just crap ton of suave conditioner. It is great today and I used some baking soda on my scalp and then suave and after I rinsed that out some vinegar water. :) Btw no your hair won't smell like pickles all day. It goes away as soon as it is dry. Vinegar is great too because it has antibacterial qualities. This system is supposed to be esp. amazing on curly hair. Check this out.this is from on just a couple acres blog.
Looks amazing doesn't she. Me having straight hair not as impressive but loving it non the less. I am thinking I will have to try her trick with the aloe too!

So here is my results after two weeks of no poo.

I have shine and it feels soft not squeaky clean and plasticy but clean and soft. I might need to clean more then every 2- 3 days like i was before while my hair adjusts but that is okay. I will deal. (and my skin is glowy and amazing from the custom face wash Vanessa from Nessas Naturals whipped up. Can't recommend that more. My face has been amazing . Don't love the smell ,but do love my skin )

My hair has lots of body and is shiny too!

My hubby tried it this morning and he loved it too!!! So if you guys give it a try please let me know what you think or if you have any questions.

My handmade ryan gosling

smokey berry eyes tutorial

So I talked last week about sharing another one of my new looks with Nessa's Naturals. Here it is..

It is a really smokey berry colored eye. I use berry dazzle on the main part of the lid then in the crease and outer corner I use smoke monster for a under the brow highlight is halo and I brighten the inner eye corner with blingy but you can use halo for that too. I used a felt tip liquid liner this time .

since this is more of a smokey eye I keep the lips and cheeks lighter

just a bit of a cream blush on the apples of my cheeks . I really love this look :) Hope you guys enjoy it.

cute lace table (came home)

So my cute lace table came home and I had the choice to repaint it or keep it. and it is too freakin cute in my living room. (notice my coffee cup I did for myself too )

I so was not sure when I first did this table but I REALLY love it now

Who would have thunk but this little 2$ 70s table is soo sweet.

I find myself always sitting on the love seat so that I can use it :)

I have another thing I wanted to share with you guys you might remember this cute vintage suit case refurb.. well my sis gave me a little case to re do and here it is..

I decoupaged it and decked it out and now I love it!!! Well time to get ready for work see you later.

once upon a time/ Snow whites make up

So I don't know about you guys but me and my girls are huge fans of of Once Upon a time. We love it and I know I have mentioned before my love of Gennifer Goodwin. She is cute as a button.

And there is some really great make up going on in Once Upon A Time. Above is a pic of the lovely Gennifer as snow white. Her make up is light and pretty and I followed this video but with my make up

Here is how it turned out.

This has been one of my favorite day time looks lately. It is bright and pretty.

It is a sparkly pretty look. Here is What I used for my eyes. I did Nessa's Naturals bligy for the lid, fog for the crease and them halo for under the brow. they eye brows are very important in this look Here is a great video for brows. I did the outer corners only with liner and I used mocha for that. I also paid special attention to the tear duct area with bligy.

a robbery and a mullet

So we have gone through soo much drama lately. There has been some good some bad and some ugly (literally) So I will start with some good things. I am in love with a company we are carrying at italy ava.

It is called Nessa's Naturals and I am wearing some of her shadows in the pic above (berry dazzle on the lid, smoke monster on the outer corner and crease, and halo to highlight under the brow. ) I am loving them and will share some of the other great ones I have picked up another day.

also loving my cowls. I love them Super cozy and cute. Now for the ugly side of things...when we got home from one Christmas and were doing laundry and cleaning up fire monster got a hold of scissors and she cut her own hair.

Yes into a mullet. The best we could do was this..

I will just have to keep trying to grow it and trim it until it looks normal. but that wasn't the end of a awful week. Our car was broke into and we had got the girls dual portable dvd players for the car and they were stolen as well as the one we bought almost 5 years ago with our wedding money and all of our chargers and our copy of beezus and ramona!! I am super bummed because the way we do things is one big gift and then a few small ones so the girls big gift (which they split) is gone. We did get a generous gift from one of my hubby's friends of dvd player to replace it that helped ease things for our 5 hour each way road trip to my hubby's side of the family's Christmas this last weekend. It wasn't as smooth as our old one.

but what is with fire monster around lol here she is with her toy stuck on her arm later that week. this took a screw driver a half hour and some soapy water. So anyway off to get some stuff done.

What youve missed

So tons has been going on and I haven't always had time to stop and share with you guys. I threw a couple of things up from my phone quick though. :) Since fire monster started her first year of school this year I decided I should knit her a sweater and here it is. I made jb048 from james c brett and I love the pattern but hated marble chunky!!!

Here is the back you can see the pretty braided cable there a bit better. :) I really do love it.

This is going to be a very random post of things I just haven't remembered to share with you guys so please don't mind me. But here is another milk glass lamp I grabbed and made into a bed side lamp. Found the lamp shade at the ever evil walmart for 5$!!!! I think it works perfect since this is more of a brass then the silver my others have been and I don't have to paint this way besides it was in quiet nice condition.

Here is a little side table I refurbished by painting it grey and yellow with some different disigns I made using painters tape. I think it is super cute. It is still in Italy Ava.

This is what I did with my family pictures I had them made into copies with a plain old color copy machine and we got the to the right size in black and whites and then did the color copies when we got it right and even with paying for all the mess ups it was just over 3$!! then I decoupaged them onto wooden boxes I got on clearance at Micheals and hung them with twine from a sign my sister had given me. It said martini lounge and I didn't need that so I painted it with chalk board paint and there you have it our family wall art was born :)

These are another great find that I am just in love with. These vintage suitcases cost me a total of 2.50!! Granted when I bought them they were ugly and the little one said property of Jane and Tarzan ski on the side but I painted them out and then bought some wall decals and cut them into the shapes I wanted stuck them on the side and I have adorable matching luggage for us and the kids :) I love them too much

Aren't they soo cute. Anyway I am up to my ears in custom orders for the shop and have errands to be running any minute when the hubby gets home from work :) I hope to share more with you guys soon. I will have to show you what happened to some of the mess ups from the copy shop here in town ;)

So I haven't posted in ages (sorry guys) I have been crazy busy working but I had to share my holiday decorations so far this year :) Here is the tree so far. We don't do one of the fancy matching trees. Our tree is all sentimental ornaments we add to every year. (and I can't find my tree skirt lol)

Here are the pine cones me and evea made last year and I made some christmas trees with foam cones I hot glued yarn around them and added some buttons. I haven't found any thing I like for the tops yet :)

I chose to stick with the peacockish colors I used on the wreath and I have a unhealthy obsession with Christmas bulbs So I So this is the table this year.

That is mostly it :) I have a swag on the door from a gfs daughters fundraiser. and my big white coffee filter on is on the inside of the front door. Well people time to get back to work. I can't have people getting frostbite on their ears because I am knitting to slow lol.

crock pot catastrophe

so yesterday was Halloween. Which means a busy day in our house. I was up early showered and ready to drive fire monster to school on time (which is rare in our house) went to grab the spare keys (since monkey butt lots my set) and ben had taken my keys so I was late anyway. So I went to her party came home threw a roast in MY NEW TWO WEEK OLD CROCK POT with all the accompaniments since we were having the neighbors over for dinner and then went down to vacuum where I found someone *cough monkey butt* cough must have vacuumed up a gerbil or something there was a huge clog I had to dig out of my vacuum hose then when that lovely drawn out process was over and I actually got vacuuming done I went up to tidy up and found there was some BBQ sauce leaking onto the counter under the crock pot. I thought that is weird and grabbed some pot holders and went to lift out the ceramic part and that is when this happened!!!

THERE WAS NO BOTTOM ANYMORE TO MY TWO WEEK OLD CROCK POT!!! Are you stinking kidding me!!

yup still in the bottom of the pan I stabbed the roast with a fork threw it in a pot on low in the oven and added all the onions, BBQ sauce, bell pepper ect. again and went on my way. But seriously. I think I must have a talk with the crock pot people. Every one is like" you should return it" but how the heck am I supposed to return this mess !! and the worst part I don't have a crock pot again and I just replaced my one that got cracked in the move!!! dang it.

This is how my days have been latley lol Well I have nothing happening tomorrow so after my first day of work at italy ava today I crawled into my pjs and I don't plan on getting out any time soon (unless it is to take a nice long bath)

my latest refurbs

I don't know how you guys spent m.e.a. weekend but I got to drive back up to the cities with my girls to see my family. The time in between visits was a bit longer then usual this time and I was missing my family something terrible. It was soo nice to be home even if my hubby stayed home to work some over time.

I always sleep at my older sisters in my nieces room. She gives up her bed for me and the girls/ hubby since she has a double bed. One thing that has driven me crazy this past few visits is no bed side lamp!! I have to turn out the light and stumble my way back to bed and then god forbid I need to see to grab my phone or something. Sooo I made a mental note to look for a lamp to refurb for her. I found this milk glass one similar to mine and knew this was it and if she didn't want it I would keep it. Well no such luck she like it.

I panted the worn metal silver and then recovered the lamp shade in some zebra fabric and added some ribbon the the top and bottom and there you have it a super cute little lamp that otherwise would have been passed up and it made things more comfy for my trip. I love to use the little flat part at the bottom to throw my chap stick or jewelry on at the end of the evening. :)

After that me and my sis looked around because she was sure we could find something to do with the rest of the zebra fabric and I found this..

My nieces desk chair it is wrote all over and stained on the cushion.

We painted it black and recovered the cushion in the zebra print and bam super cute chair.

another project my sis had lined up for me was a rolling tv stand she had thrifted and wanted to make into a upholstered ottoman. We lucked out that the top of this will just pop off so we removed it then we wrestled (literally) the egg crate out from under my nephews but on his futon and cut two pieces then we lined then up together threw some batting over that and the fabric staple gunned it on and then put it back together and she has a great big upholstered ottoman that cost roughly $20 (7 for tv stand, 8 for fabric, and a few bucks for batting)

then I came home and set to work on some of my projects. Here is a side table I thrifted a while back it is on wheels and it has some water damage that wouldn't sand out. But after a bit of love I still think it is adorable.

I panted it in grey and yellow.

I got these shutters and painted then for some mail/ bill sorters and I am going to put hooks in the bottom for keys to hang. The black ones are chalk board paint.

This is a great little shelf that I found and repainted. I think it is fabulous.

This is another table that I painted. I had decided to try the lace painting technique I am seeing allot lately. I did silver over the wood color.

I also painted the legs and edges and any extras silver also.

I have a few more things that I have yet to finish. :) I will have to save then for another day. I am going to get in a bit of work on some knitting and then head off to bed :) Hope you guys had a great weekend too!

chunky cable throw pillows

Last week I made some great throw pillows out of cable sweater for Italy Ava .
I fell in love with them. They are some of my favorite pieces so far.
So I have been busy making a few more.

I apologize for the sub par photography but here is a pretty pear green pillow :)

This is a fabulous grey one with cables and seed stitch.
This is one I made out of the left overs from the first set.
As well as this cream one out of left overs. I am loving these and I am not sure if they will stay with me or go up for sale I am not certain yet. But I am loving them :)

I am having a tough time getting my knitting done my ulnaritus is acting up and has been super painful the past few day so I am on my way to the chiro hoping she can fix me up. So sewing these pillows was a nice break although not easy lol. Well I need to cook some lunch before I head off to the chiro . :) I hope you guys enjoy seeing then great new pieces as much as I enjoy making them. rocker and side/ottoman finished product

Okay so I finished up the rocker and ottoman set. Here is a picture collage showing the beginning product and the end after reupholstering, painting, and distressing. I also have the side table that I made into a ottoman.

my hubby is going to take out the extra rung on the left side and it will be good to go.

It has a very thick cushion and is very comfy. The ottoman was a very uncute side table. I sawed the legs in half painted and distressed them and then I upholstered the top and it makes the perfect ottoman for this rocker.

Hopefully it goes to a good home where it rocks many a sweet baby and has many a book read on it by someone snuggled in with a cup or tea and warm socks. :)

As for my own home, I picked this little guy up at gathering of gals. It is a shelf with hooks made out of shutters. But it was white and blended right in with my walls so I painted and distressed it in this blue that fits well in my kitchen. Perfect to hold my pens and dry erase markers and most of all keys because it is right here..

Right inside the back door . I also have my ikea shoe drawers there and the chore chart and this..

The wine crate we use as a shoe box. It used to be my side table when I was very young and lived with my sis!!!

I was shabby chic when that was just broke lol. Who knew lol. Well I have lots of knitting to catch up on and I need a shower because I am covered in spray paint AGAIN. Also we had a sleep over last night that didn't go very well and required me getting out of bed lots of times to sooth many a tear so I am exhausted and cranky. Well I suppose I will hide down stairs from foot ball and kids so I can knit :)

Steph my gf just posted more family pics of me and the hubby she took. I love them. This is me and my hubby :) Who I am missing big time because he has been away for training ALL week!! he gets home today.

I can't wait for him to get home. We have date night tomorrow night :)

and this right here is my favorite. I have on about a gallon of eye make up and this made me cry!!! Fire monster is SUCH a daddies girl and she has always rubbed ears when she gets tired. You know she is sleepy when she is rubbing your ear. This pic was at the end of the photo session and she was tired and getting cranky. This is such a tender little pic of my fire monster.

I am going to get some work done now and enjoy my little break from the monster while she is at preschool. :)

The girl cave/ craft room rearranged

So I promised you the other day that I would show you the girl cave/ craft room. I had to change a few things since I moved things around. This area mostly stayed the same I have a new magnet board there and this houses yarn and knitting books.

This is my sitting and knitting spot and in the back is where present wrapping stuff goes.

Here is my sewing table/ desk. I also took down the ikea cubbie bar that was next to my side of the bed and it went here but I also did something brilliant to it that we did at my sisters..

I had a broken tape measure (a few actually ) that wouldn't retract so I cut it and taped it to the edge of the table for cutting like so.

but the biggest change was that I moved the sofa table into my room so there was a gap there and since my new dresser is where this shelf was it moved into the girl cave, where is was very much needed for storage of various crafting goodies and mailing things for my etsy shop and blah blah blah.

So there you have it. It isn't perfect yet there are still things I am going to change but I am enjoying the way things are soo much and Mrs Laura (my gf) is right" no person in the right mind needed that much storage in their bedroom" (not that I have ever claimed to be in my right mind) but I really was needing more in my girl cave and this fit the bill.

Soo I have tons of knitting to do since I am super behind. I threw my back out early this week doing all this refurbishing and moving and was worthless most of the week. So I am playing catch up now. I have orders mostly filled but I have a few other things that I want to throw together for the shop and I have a few new pieces I got out thrifting today but I will have to save those for another day. I am only one person people :)enjoy your weekend I am off to knit as fast as my fingers will fly :)

Well moving furniture I threw out my back Monday. So I have been baby it since Monday and in pain and today I gave in and went to the chiropractor and I have to coupon shop tonight plus take it easy so dinner is in the trusty crock pot. I am make this recipe from my pintrest board that is from here .

She is brilliant you just throw cream cheese, chicken, diced tomatos, corn and black beans there. I also threw in a bit of left over green chillis from last night and some diced olives from Sunday :)

newest refurbs and rooms rearranged

I have a few new refurbs to share with you guys. First off is this rocker I got . It is super sturdy and comfy and is in good condition the cushion is super thick and it is very nice to sit in..but not super cute

I sanded it down painted it and recovered it in this grey blue and purple fabric and scotch guarded that.

This one is probably going to wind up going but not until there is room in the shop.

Here is my other refurb this one is staying home with me though :)

nice 6 drawer dresser ugly pulls though. and a bit beat up but the drawers open and close nicely. I have been waiting for something like this for quiet some time

This one is part way done I am thinking of doing something esle to the front and I need to get the right pulls. but it is painted a nice grey to match in my bedroom and I am sick on trying to get my drawers open so there is ribbon for pulls until I get the ones I want :) I had it some where else in my room after lots and lots of moving furnature. Then yesterday was tuesday morning coffee with the girlfriends and my brillant girl freind Laura said "nope all wrong" (she was right and I love her for telling me) So my hubby got home and I got to break the news to him again that his evening was to be spent moving furnature again. So Here is my room now..

I am not done with it by any means but is cute then before. I am going to get two shelves like the one on my side of the bed and fabric the insides for side tables :) I moved the sofa table from in the girl cave (the up dated girl cave is tomorrows post)

I put the white picture and the milk glass that was on the kitchen table on the sofa table.

So here is that side of the bed.

I backed the dresser with damask fabric and moved one side table there to hold the printer and printer paper and what not and use as a side table it will be a seating area and for now the rockers home until there is room in the shop.

The pictures on the wall were on the side table at the hubbies side and I am going to add more black frames with family pics

and since I stole the table decorations this moved up from the girl cave and was filled with peas and a candle

So here is the table now.

Well I better get some chores done and feed fire monster lunch before she takes matters into her own hands

My hubby has been on me forever that we needed new family photos. He was very right seeing as our last family photo monkey butt was fire monsters age, and fire monster wasn't even a thought yet and we weren't married!!! It has been a long time. So before our last trip to the cities I talked to (i.e. begged) my gf Steph to take some for us and she (as brilliant as she always is did a fabulous job) even though that morning I had to rush to get Monkey Butt from her dad and then meet my hubby who was rushing back from a cabin weekend with the boys (and really was right I should have cut his hair before the pics but meh what do you do) they turned out great.
Here is a great one of us ..

This one is fun and I was very impressed because all of us girls were in desperate need of a pedi and basically just had polish on our big toes but she made us look good and some how made our toes have light pink polish on them!!

This one is soooo us. Monkey butt has her crazy hysterical laugh even fire monster my serious girl has a grin.

here is my serious girl now. She actually has blue eyes but this is just something to do with the way the light hit them.

Well Omg My blogger picture uploader has lost its mind. This is the best I could get out of it tonight. Well Any who. I took some time to make some pics really quick tonight of the new super soft cowls that I have both at my etsy shop and Italy Ava.

I am super loving these. They have been selling like hotcakes in Italy Ava so I decided I had to feature them in my etsy. So I talked my gorgeous friend Ali into modeling for some pics for etsy. This first one is a huge color for fall and something I can't get enough of peacock.

These are soo soft warm and cozy once you try it on you don't want to take it off. They are soo cuddly I can't wait for chilly weather bring it on :)
